Have you tried using it like you do with rice?
Gene, have you tried steel cut oats or a combination of steel cut and rolled? Either way, if you were eating a ton, you were probably getting an over abundance of GLA which contributed to the acne.

That could be; a lot of others feel the same way but you've really got to experiment to find out what works for you. I eliminated all gluten for my diet for a couple of months, and in the end it didn't really make a difference. I was able to add a lot of stuff in (flour and other wheat-based stuff) without any problems. However, whenever I challenged oatmeal I always got bloated, gassy, and sick. It didn't matter if it was plain rolled, gluten-free, steel-cut, or even instant oatmeal. Any more than 1/4 of a cup meant that I'd be suffering for 4-6 hours. In the end I came to realize that I can still eat oats, but only in small amounts. Not only that, but for me it was the oats themselves - not gluten or any other hidden factor.

It's the gluten that is making you feel sick and making you break out. I stay away from gluten. I use gluten free oatmeal instead of regular oatmeal. The taste is the same. I also eat a ton of quinoa for that extra protein. These products for most of my carbs and I don't break out:

yah, there's no need to spend a lot on steel cut. It's available in bulk just about anywhere. I think I pay less than a buck a pound.

There are times, when i get on my "i need to lose weight, cuz i'm a major fatass" that I will set up the slow cooker up and put the steel cut oats in there, go to bed and wake up to a hot breakfast. then I'll portion the rest for later that week. Damni need to fdo that again. I need to drop 30-35 pounds...
