Houston native here,...Weather wise, the area of Texas you refer to has a drier less humid climate than Houston does, but you will still use the air conditioner.
Dallas is more in tune with the "Western" mystique than Houston is...But Houston is more "international" than Dallas...I passed a park in Houston the other day where a "Cricket" league plays.
Dallas and Houston are both Republican politically,...But Houston Republicans tend to like Franklin Roosevelt and what he did. The elder Bush is very much like Nelson Rockefeller in his thinking. (yes I have met the man)
You will find a great many people into art, music, and high culture in both Houston and Dallas, but more so Houston, due to the fact that so many are from around the world.
University educations have historically been very "available" regardless of financial or academic back ground.
I think you would like it personally...

Me and a friend were held at gunpoint for the better part of an hour...I had a friend who was managing a Television store at I45 and Little York...I stopped in a half hour before closing so we could go to dinner after he closed and watch Monty Python at his place...Some guys came in shortly before closing and held the place up,...held guns on us and tied us up in the back room,...backed a truck up to the store and started to load...after about an hour past the closing time, the district manager called the store,...This scared the robbers away,...we were tied back to back and the only way to get to the phone was for my friend to lean back while I knocked the phone off the hook...The district manager asked for my friend,...I don't know why I did what I did next, but I said, absolute quote,..."He can't come to the phone right now,...he's all tied up!"
We laughed until the cops showed up...
and I am sure that we would have died if the phone had not rang...

Imo, Texas is a great state to live in. Lots of great citys in a small area (San Antonio, Houston, Austin, Dallas), great climate usually and very diverse for people'
Very large night life in most cities and alot to do in really any type of hobby you can think of. Cant think of any better states that offer as much to do as Texas does.

Maybe the great Benchmeister will. Seems a little overbuilt to me. Not as bad as downtown San Diego, but rental rates have not moved a whole lot. I know my rental rate went up this year but I'm pretty sure I could have gotten a deal if I wasn't out of town and had time to actually negotiate it.

Yeah, I can imagine that Dallas is probably a lot like Phoenix. A huge, sprawling city where you gotta drive like 10 miles to get anywhere. In a "city" but it feels like suburbia.
