Title: Ron Paul likely to enter 2012 race in May

Libertarian-leaning Texas Republican Congressman Ron Paul has formed a so-called "testing the waters" fundraising account ahead of a possible 2012 presidential run, Paul aide Jesse Benton confirmed to CBS News.

According to Benton, Paul "is close to making a final decision and it is better than 50-50 that he will enter the race in May."

A run by Ron Paul would almost surely mean that his son, GOP Sen. Rand Paul, will not seek the presidency. Rand Paul, who shares many political beliefs with Ron Paul, has been considering a run if his father does not seek the nomination.

Benton said that Ron Paul has already raised more than $1.2 million through his political action committee "to help him weigh his political options," adding that "he has the structure in place to hit the ground running if he makes the decision to run next month." Benton is the director of Paul's political action committee, LibertyPAC.

He'll be right up there with Rick Santorum, Haley Barbour, and a few others who have no chance to win.

But he will kick Obama's butt on getbig.com.   :)

There will always be voters like you, BB.  You feel Palin is viable but Ron Paul is not.  Many of us feel the complete opposite.  I guess we'll see.

If anything, i'm sure there are plenty of 2008 voters who snubbed ron paul who wished they had that vote to do over.  33, how would you vote, given 2008 all over?  Romneycare or Rpaul?

Plus, RPaul was the only one (in spring in 2008) saying a collapse was coming.  The rest of the repubs talked about the 'strong fundamentals' of the economy.  We all saw in Sept 2008 that RPaul was absolutely right.

The tea party values that he's held for 40 years are suddenly popular.  It was RINOfest 2008 back then, remember?

he stabbed 3 in prison?  that's gangsta!

For real - if it was 2008 candidates all over again in 2012 - would you vote Ron Paul, 33?

I AM a republican.  I voted for both Bush's and one Dole in the presidential elections, so it really has taken a lot for me to admit my party currently has messed things up bigtime.  I've voted repub my entire life, but YOU have the audacity to say I'm not one, because I don't back the current hijacking of the party?  Sounds like you don't understand the tenets of the party.  When I was running mock school debates in the 8th grade (Bush vs Dukakis), you were prob still in training pants :)  SO I know my party.  And Bush isn't it :(

So I probably will vote dem.  i'd love to see Obama choose a Wes Clark for a running mate, or a Jim Webb, possibly more likely, for strong military and defense credibility.
