do you guys perform partial deadlifts???
-
I do regular deads every other week.
I stopped doing partials a while back when they aggravated my lower back.

I Alternate every few weeks......right now I'm doing deads and I'll switch to rack pulls in a few weeks.

Pulling from the ground is less stress than starting up higher in a rack?
I'm not doubting you; just trying to understand how/why that is.
Oftentimes it's the first third of the lift that stresses the sacro-lumbar region.

Usually twice a week , from a rack pulling position a little below my knees (starting from bent knees, lower back set and straight..always remembering to keep the bar as close to the body as possible). At times I will add a shrug or a semi Hi-pull when at the standing or finished position after each rep. Sometimes adding the shrug/Hi-pull after the DL reps are done. Good Luck.

I stopped doing them. since i go pretty heavy on bb rows...overhand and underhand in the same workout lately.

I was using a lot more weight than I could possibly use doing a regular deadlift..........went for a few extra reps, and hurt my back.

Gotcha.
Sorry to hear.

Meso_z comes up with a good thought. Heavy BB row's (usually a row and partial DL combo..very popular with stronger men) will work the hams/butt and lower back quite well. And of course the pulling muscles of the actual row. Most experience guy's are doing this version rather than a stricter form of rows. You do hit the traps, though nothing like regular DL's. So perhaps adding a few sets of shrugs/cleans/hi-pulls can fix that.
Been told that a curl grip (underhand), with the pull to the lower abs, seems to hit the lat's themselves better. A much wider grip, pull to the chest, will hit the upper back and rear delts very well. As dj181's inquiring mind ask, most can handle well above 300 and 400+ is not out of the question for a few others. That's the half BB row, half partial DL I speak of. Heard of some approaching the 500 mark. Good Luck.

I can do 3 plates for 7 reps...overhand
then in the end of the workout i do some underhand.
130 kg,,
so 140kg overhand and 130kg underhand. dont know how many lbs.
STRICT FORM! A little bit of movement like Jay does them, I feel them in my back better this way. No swinging just go with the rythm, y know, like dancing...with the bar being your partner :-* ;D

I do full deads once a week, plus some bbell rowing
-
I prefer to do heavy shrugs and BB rows to help a deadlift than partials.

Do reverse hypers to help your deadlift, its a great exercise to increase deadlift power.
