Post by: andreisdaman on May 06, 2011, 08:58:30 AM
The U.S economy added 244,0000 jobs just in the month of April alone....far exceeding the predictions of economists....the recovery is in full swing.....3333, you must be so goddamn sore by now with Obama's foot constantly in your ass.....in one week....produces his birth certificate thus shutting up both Donald Trump and Sarh Palin (they have been awfully quiet)...Kills Osama Bin Laden.....and now economy is roaring back

Like I have said before, Obama and I are going to run 3333 off this board eventuially :D

..however, don't leave until we go to the Yankees game together ;)

The "official" unemployment rate goes UP from 8.8% to 9.0%, and you're yapping about the economy roaring back? Are you on crack?

Or did you miss the 420,000+ unemployment claims, way more than "expected". And the rise of people on food stamps has been well-documented. When 1 in 7 are on welfare that ain't "roaring back".

That's what so pathetic about Obama. He kills Osama Bin Laden and he STILL might get his clock cleaned in 18 months. That's the ONLY REASON his approval ratings are up.

But, look at the Bushes. The first one had approval ratings in the 80s after the first Gulf War. He LOST his re-election bid. The second Bush got a big bump after nabbing Saddam Hussein. His number were in the toilet by the time 2008 rolled around, and that misfortune got passed to McCain.

Keep telling yourself that the economy is roaring back; keep telling yourself that Obama is a lock in 2012. Just make sure you got plenty of Kleenex on standby.

Absolutely.

Again, look into the number that are presented. They aren't buried deep.

U-6 is up .2% to 15.9, which is isn't good at all. LFP is up again to new historic highs, food stamp usage is up and on and on.

The # was pretty bogus.

Two Years into Our Lost Decade

May 6, 2011 10:11 A.M. By Samuel R. Staley
The unemployment rate has increased to 9 percent, but employers added 244,000 jobs in April. This job growth was higher than expected, but barely enough to tread water in today’s economy. If these numbers were in month two or three of the recovery, I would be excited. In fact, normally, we should be ecstatic. But we aren’t anywhere close to normal in this economy. And that’s the scary part. We are nearly two years into the so-called recovery from the Great Recession (which “officially” ended in June 2009 according to the National Bureau of Economic Research). And, as I pointed out in National Review Online earlier, this Great Recession really isn’t so Great. It’s similar in scope to what we experienced in the early 1980s. So, the positive employment numbers now showing up 22 months after the recovery started is pretty. . . well . . . scary. Moreover, the economy’s inconsistency since the trough is hardly encouraging. Indeed, it appears we are two years into a “lost decade.”

Jobs Report Has More Bad News Than Good News

AP
There was more bad news than met the eye to Friday’s jobs report, even beyond the bump up in the unemployment rate.

While the top-line number of 244,000 jobs created sounded great when it came off the tape, the internals were somewhat weaker. In particular, the household survey, which is an actual head count, suggested that the job creation barely kept up with the expansion of the labor force.

Under some circumstances, the rise in the jobless rate might have suggested good news—namely that many of the millions of discouraged workers were coming off the sidelines and looking for jobs, thus being added to the count according to the Labor Department’s byzantine method of composing the labor picture.

But nothing in the data suggests that.

The labor participation rate for April, in fact, stood unchanged at 64.2 percent.

Ditto for the actual amount of people out of work, which also was unchanged at 13.7 million.

Another measure of unemployment rose as well: the so-called “real” unemployment rate, which rose to 15.9 percent, up two-tenths from the prior month. The government calls the rate the U-6, and it measures not just those looking for work and unable to find jobs but also those “marginally” attached to the labor force and those who are working part-time but who want full-time work.

There were 8.6 million of those involuntary part-time workers, a number also unchanged from the previous month.

So what did change?

McDonald’s [MCD  78.70     0.10  (+0.13%)      ] said it would hire 50,000 workers, but that was outside the April reporting period, so it didn't help these numbers.

Retail created another 57,000, including 27,000 in general merchandise stores.

Leisure and hospitality continued its torrid pace of job creation, adding 46,000 to bring its three-month addition to the burgeoning job market to 46,000.

Manufacturing? There continued to be a slow rise, with 29,000 news jobs recorded, while mining added a net 11,000, most in support positions.

Professional and business services had a sold month, adding 51,000 positions.

But the average workweek, considered a key barometer of economic activity, also did not move, staying stagnant at 34.3 hours. At the same time, wages actually edged higher, up three cents, or 0.1 percent, to $22.95.

Wages, which are looked at as important for inflation expectations, have gained 1.7 percent over the past year.

The upshot, then, is that there is reason to cheer, but also some things to fear.

“In stark contrast to the payrolls figures, the household survey measure suggests that employment fell by 191,000 last month, with the labor force expanding by 235,000,” Paul Ashworth, chief US economist at Capital Economics in Toronto, wrote in a note to clients. “Overall, very encouraging, although the rebound in the unemployment rate underlines how far we still have to go.”

Correction: An earlier version of this report incorrectly suggested that a good portion of last month's hiring came from McDonald's, which moved to hire 50,000 workers last month. That hiring came after the reporting period in the jobs report.

The media and the Admin. are lauding McDonald's jobs, part time jobs and crap jobs with no benefits. That's awesome.

Manufacturing is positive but is it worth it to have the massively devalued dollar and inflation that was done to achieve it?

Like always, you have your head in the clouds and don't want to face reality. This is ABSYMAL. The "official" unemployment rate went UP. And you're still yapping about a recovery. It ain't happening.

Furthermore, these same Mickey D's jobs were being ridiculed by the left, when these jobs were being touted during the Bush years. Now, that it's under Obama, all of a sudden more fast-food jobs is a boon for the economy.

When you LOSE more jobs than you create, that ain't recovery, pure and simple.

When the "official" unemployment rate dropped slightly from 9.0% to 8.8%, you were clucking about how awesome it was and how the recovery was booming.

Now, that the "official" unemployment rate is back up to 9.0%, you're doing more twists than a pretzel, pretending that the economy is still recovering. There's no positive trend, O slurping one, especially with well over 400,000 unemployment claims were files that same week those job additions were announced.

And, because you apparently flunked basic match, when you LOSE more jobs than you ADD, that ain't recovery. As Grape Ape said, if you score 9 runs but give up TWELVE yourself, guess what...YOU'VE LOST.

Jobs Report Looks Awful Below the Surface
www.Financial Sense.com ^ | 05/06/2011 | By Michael Shedlock

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\

On the surface, this was the third consecutive solid jobs report, not as measured by the typical recovery, but the best back-to-back reports we have seen for years. The Payroll Survey Establishment Data showed employment up by 244,000.

At that pace of hiring, the unemployment number would ordinarily drop, but not fast.

Instead, the unemployment rate ticked up. The reason is beneath the surface, employment fell by 190,000 according to the Household Survey.

According to the Household Survey, the number of unemployed rose by 205,000. Another 131,000 dropped out of the labor force or the unemployment rate would have been even higher.

Which survey to believe?

It is hard to say on one month's data. However, during a recovery the household survey is supposed to lead. Moreover, the household survey is more consistent with three recent reports.

Weekly Unemployment Claims Soar to 474,000; Bogus Excuses Offered

Oil Consumption Demand Destruction vs. Speculative Futures Positions

Non-Manufacturing ISM Plunges Below Prediction of All 73 Economists, New Orders Collapse, Prices Firm; Did Rosenberg Capitulate at the Top?

Unless the Household Survey is an outlier, the implications are not good

Last month I said "It is very questionable if this pace of jobs keeps up."

Well, it kept up if the Payroll Survey is correct, it sure didn't if the Household Survey is to be believed.

Recall that the unemployment rate varies in accordance with the Household Survey not the reported headline jobs number, and not in accordance with the weekly claims data.

Digging deeper into the Household Survey, we see some more interesting data. In the last year, the civilian population rose by 1,817,000. Yet the labor force dropped by 1,099,000. Those not in the labor force rose by 2,916,000.

In January alone, a whopping 319,000 people dropped out of the workforce. In February another 87,000 people dropped out of the labor force. In March 11,000 people dropped out of the labor force. In April, 131,000 dropped out of the labor force. The 4-month total for 2011 is 548,000 people dropped out of the labor force.

Many of those millions who dropped out of the workforce would start looking if they thought jobs were available. Indeed, in a 2-year old recovery, the labor force should be rising sharply as those who stopped looking for jobs, once again started looking. Instead, an additional 548,000 people dropped out of the labor force in the first four months of the year.

Were it not for people dropping out of the labor force, the unemployment rate would be well over 11%.

As I said, the report looks good on the surface, it does not look good if you poke around in the details.

April 2011 Jobs Report

Please consider the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) April 2011 Employment Report.

Nonfarm payroll employment rose by 244,000 in April, and the unemployment rate edged up to 9.0 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Job gains occurred in several service providing industries, manufacturing, and mining.

Unemployment Rate - Seasonally Adjusted Nonfarm Employment - Payroll Survey - Monthly Look - Seasonally Adjusted

Nonfarm Employment - Payroll Survey - Annual Look - Seasonally Adjusted

Notice that employment is lower than it was 10 years ago.

Nonfarm Employment - Payroll Survey - This Month - Seasonally Adjusted

Employment in the private sector rose by 268,000 in April. Since reaching a low point in employment in February 2010, the private sector has added 2.1 million jobs—an average of 149,000 per month.

Statistically, 127,000 jobs a month is enough to keep the unemployment rate flat.

Index of Aggregate Weekly Hours

In April, the average workweek for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls was unchanged at 34.3 hours. The average workweek for production and nonsupervisory employees on private nonfarm payrolls was also unchanged at 33.6 hours.

The index of aggregate weekly hours for all employees rose by 0.3 percent over the month. Since reaching a low point in October 2009, the index has increased by 3.3 percent.

Average Hourly Earnings vs. CPI

Average hourly earnings of all employees in the private sector increased by 3 cents in April to $22.95. Hourly earnings are up 1.9 percent over the year.

Between March 2010 and March 2011, the consumer price index for all urban consumers (CPI-U) increased by 2.7 percent.

Not only are wages rising slower than the CPI, there is also a concern as to how those wage gains are distributed.

The big news in the BLS Birth/Death Model is the BLS has moved to quarterly rather than annual adjustments.

Effective with the release of January 2011 data on February 4, 2011, the establishment survey will begin estimating net business birth/death adjustment factors on a quarterly basis, replacing the current practice of estimating the factors annually. This will allow the establishment survey to incorporate information from the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages into the birth/death adjustment factors as soon as it becomes available and thereby improve the factors.

For more details please see Introduction of Quarterly Birth/Death Model Updates in the Establishment Survey

In recent years Birth/Death methodology has been so screwed up and there have been so many revisions that it has been painful to watch.

It is possible that the BLS model is now back in sync with the real world. Moreover, quarterly rather than annual adjustments can only help the process.

The Birth-Death numbers are not seasonally adjusted while the reported headline number is. In the black box the BLS combines the two coming out with a total.

The Birth Death number influences the overall totals, but the math is not as simple as it appears. Moreover, the effect is nowhere near as big as it might logically appear at first glance.

Do not add or subtract the Birth-Death numbers from the reported headline totals. It does not work that way.

Birth/Death assumptions are supposedly made according to estimates of where the BLS thinks we are in the economic cycle. Theory is one thing. Practice is clearly another as noted by numerous recent revisions.

Birth-Death Number Revisions

Inquiring minds note enormous backward revisions in Birth-Death reporting.

Birth Death Model (as reported in January)

Birth Death Model Revisions 2010 (as reported February)

Is this new model going to reflect reality going forward?

That's hard to say, but things were so screwed up before that it is unlikely to be any worse. One encouraging sign is several negative numbers in the recent chart. January would have been negative too, had they shown it. Historically there were only 2 negative number every year, January and July. That anomaly broke November of 2010.

Birth Death Model April 2011

Do NOT subtract 175,000 from the headline number. That is statistically invalid.

Household Data

In the last year, the civilian population rose by 1,817,000. Yet the labor force dropped by 1,099,000. Those not in the labor force rose by 2,916,000.

Were it not for people dropping out of the labor force, the unemployment rate would be well over 11%.

Table A-8 Part Time Status

There are now 8,600,000 workers whose hours may rise before those companies start hiring more workers.

Note the number rose by 167,000 in the last month

Table A-15

Table A-15 is where one can find a better approximation of what the unemployment rate really is.

Distorted Statistics

Given the total distortions of reality with respect to not counting people who allegedly dropped out of the work force, it is hard to discuss the numbers.

The official unemployment rate is 9.9%. However, if you start counting all the people that want a job but gave up, all the people with part-time jobs that want a full-time job, all the people who dropped off the unemployment rolls because their unemployment benefits ran out, etc., you get a closer picture of what the unemployment rate is. That number is in the last row labeled U-6.

While the "official" unemployment rate is an unacceptable 9.0%, U-6 is much higher at 15.9%.

Things are much worse than the reported numbers would have you believe, and this month's report was exceptionally weak beneath the surface.

PLEASE!!! You and the other members of the TK crew are in such denial, you'd probably be counted in the crowd asking for Mubarak's removal.

I stated that 244,000 jobs were created and thats a positive sign.....I am sorry your feelings were hurt by that O penis sucker...try to be more objective in the future...if you can't be, then stick to making posts about fake supplements that only seem to work for you...you'll be happier that way

You are looking at 244k as if that is a good thing?

Considering the decreasing the labor particpation rate, the increasing population, the amounbt of people leaving the work force, the horrible policies of obama, obama induced inflation on energy and food, etc, its a freaking joke.

people leave the workforce all the time....thats nothing new..this especially happens when the economy is in trouble..they often come back at a later time once things improve.....you act as all of these people just sit home and collect welfare for the rest of their lives....and the labor participation rate is not Obama's fault..thats been going down for years

Obama is putting more on welfare, food stamps, etc purposeful to collapse the nation and create votes.  Even the CBO said bamacare will hurt the workforce.

Everything this asshole is doing is to create dependency and chaos.

all I did was cite that we created 244, 000 jobs last month which is the truth..sorry that hurts your feelings

It doesn't hurt my feelings at all.    Same analogy, you're happy your team scored 9 and you're celebrating it.  The other team scored more.

If you started a thread called "244,000 jobs created", you'd have a point.  But you didn't, you said it implied that 333 was wrong, when the whole story shows he's right.

It's time for remedial math for you, TK poster boy. If 244,000 jobs are created and at least 244,001 are lost, that is NOT a positive sign.

And let's not even go there with the "fake supplements". Or do I need to remind you of YOUR PURCHASES of those very same supplements and your BRAGGING ABOUT it, because you got them cheap, just like me?

I will go ahead and acknowledge that Obama has spent a lot of money...and yes it has added to our debt which I hate.....but we forget that a lot of expert economists at the time felt that we should stimulate the economy by spending money......was it the right decision in retrospect?..I don't know..maybe not.....but you should also acknowledge that Obama saved the auto and banking industries with his loans program.....which the banks and the auto companies paid back WITH INTEREST,,the American people made money on those deals and saved thousands upon thousands of jobs....

Imagine what the economy would look like today if the auto industry had collapsed....WOW

First of all, I don't have any Cell-Tech and haven't had any in months. Plus, the last one I had was Blue Raspberry, not Grape  ;D .

Don't follow the herd? You're one to talk. Watching you contort yourself to purport your claims of a recovery economy leaps past the absurd.

Whether you're conservative or liberal, losing more jobs than you make ain't a recovery. That's simple addition and subtraction, for which you apparently need a refresher course.

first of all, there has been a net job loss over the past few years...everyone knows this but I was only posting for last month....we had a GAIN of 244,000 jobs and I touted that because it was a bigger gain than economists expected and the stock market rose because of this....and yes, the job gain figure is an indication that the economy is coming back...you can deny it all you want but the government bureau of statistics cited this as an indication of the economy coming back to life...I never said we were out of the recession

Shotgun and SyntheSIZE work great. And, if you bothered checking my thread on the Supplement Board, you will note that I got them both for less than $20 (clearance sale at my gym).

And I'm BUYING the products for a fraction of its normal retail price. Exactly who would pay me to do that. And coming from someone who bragged about buying 14 lbs of Cell-Tech, AS WELL AS using Gaspari's SizeOn, you're hardly in a position to lecture me about not buying "worthless products"?

To quote YOUR OWN WORDS (January 22, 2009):

I recently bought some stuff on clearance at GNC and it was a bargain....I got a big 7lb can of cell-tech for $20.00 and the manager gave me a second 7lb can for $10.00....got a can of ISOPURE pineapple/orange whey protein for $20.00 and got a huge can of Gaspari's MYOFUSION for 30% off at $42.00....this stuff will last me a very long time and it was all under $100.00....

I know I am contradicting myself since I started this thread as an anti-supp forum, but I guess what I have a major problem with is the COST of supps...not so much their usage....If you can buy supps at the prices I just mentioned then I can see reaching into your wallet..but the cost of some supps are super sky-high and basically you are paying for a placebo effect and performing a ritual.....for a dubious cost....

The real measure of econ growth is the labor particpation rate and whether the economy is creating more jobs after you take into account birth death model, people looking/wanting work, etc.

The hokus pokus crap andre is cheering is terrible!  Seriously - durung the Reagan recovery they had months of 450 - 550k a month job creation and the population was far less.  Do the freaking math.

I know I am contradicting myself since I started this thread as an anti-supp forum, but I guess what I have a major problem with is the COST of supps...not so much their usage....If you can buy supps at the prices I just mentioned then I can see reaching into your wallet..but the cost of some supps are super sky-high and basically you are paying for a placebo effect and performing a ritual.....for a dubious cost....

you're never gonna let me live that down...LOL
why don't you post a picture so we can see how all of these wonderful products work for you???

it shows your racism that you assume people voted for Obama solely for his skin color....I guess all the history of white people in the US only allowing white people to run for office, not allowing blacks to vote, and voting for only white people never happened huh????....very ironic
Listen negro, I am part hispanic and black. Difference is between you and me is that I don't vote based solely on race. I didn't vote for Obama. From the beginning I knew he didn't know what he was talking about and that he was lying through his teeth. Sucks for you that you can only see color and you try to justify that by the previous history of this nation. Wake up!! It's 2011!! Three years into the worst presidency ever!

Blacks need to wake the hell up!

First of all you hybrid dick, you were the one who brought up race first, making the assumption that people voted for him because of his race..yes that might be true for a small minority of people but the vast majority voted for him due to his policies and his wanting to bring change....I guess all the Klansmen, Nazi skinheads, racists, and militiamen out there vote solely on the merits too huh??? ...stop bringing up race and debate on the merits....people always bring up race when they are frustrated and have no argument...I personally don't see color..maybe you do because you're frustrated....and the previous history that I brought up DID IN FACT happen...I didn't post a lie..maybe you'll deny that as well you asshole dick

and I find your statement that blacks need to wake up as being the most ironic thing I've read on this board....you need to repeat that a few times while looking in the mirror

HEHEHEHEH!!! You must have spent your last brain cell keying all that nonsense. Hybrid dick? Are you trying to be funny or are you as stupid as your posts? By that statement you are just as racist as everyone else you have accused in the past. I guess it hurts that your ignorant black ass got taken to the cleaners for believing in Obama. It's ok. Just admit that you were wrong and start acting like a logical human being which is discontinuing your constant cocksucking of Obama. A lot of white people voted for Obama but after seeing what a disaster he is, many of them are turning away from him. That makes sense. You with your threads claiming the economy is fine for adding 200k+ jobs while losing 300k+ shows you are an idiotic human being. It is a lame attempt on your part to make it seem as if your "homie" is doing a good job. HE IS BY FAR THE WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THIS NATION AND HIS TERM IS NOT EVEN OVER YET!!!

By the way, since you like history so much, why don't you read up on which political party from it's very inception supported the KKK. That's for you to study up on, since you like to bring up history and believe that it ALL should be relevant to today. Telling blacks to wake up is not ironic, since their majority still votes for the same party that originally looked to keep them in chains. Now, they have the chains of dependency on them. Yes, you need to wake up and get Obama's balls out of your mouth.

as for your claim that the majority of blacks vote for one party...so what???...the majority of Jews vote democratic....the majority of Hispanics do as well......the majority of whites vote Republican or independent....why are they able to vote mostly one way and blacks are not???

Why the Job Market Feels So Dismal
The number of hires is the same today as it was when we were shedding jobs at record rates.
By EDWARD P. LAZEAR
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703730804576317142210698436.html#articleTabs%3Dcomments

Why don't American workers feel that the labor market is on the mend? After all, the May 6 jobs report could suggest that the labor market is improving. Nonfarm employment rose by 244,000 and employment growth over the last three months is averaging over 200,000 per month. With unemployment at 9%, employment is still down many millions from where it should be, but up from its recession lows.

The fact is the jobs numbers that create so much anticipation from the business press and so many pundit pronouncements do not give a clear picture of the labor market's health. A better understanding requires an examination of hires and separations, or what the Bureau of Labor Statistics calls Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) data. Here are some surprising facts:

First, the increase in job growth that occurred over the past two years results from a decline in the number of layoffs, not from increased hiring. In February 2009, a month during which the labor market lost more than 700,000 jobs, employers hired four million workers. In March 2011, employers hired four million workers. The number of hires is the same today as it was when we were shedding jobs at record rates.

We added jobs because hires exceeded separations, not because hiring increased. There were 4.7 million separations in February 2009. In March 2011 that number had fallen to 3.8 million. The fall in separations reflects a decline in layoffs, which went from 2.5 million per month in February 2009 to 1.6 million per month in March 2011. One small piece of good news is that the just-released April data showed hires up about 2% over last year's average and 12% above the low reached in January 2010.

The decline in layoffs is not unexpected and does not necessarily reflect labor-market health. Layoffs tend to occur early in a recession. When an economy has reached bottom and has already shed much of its labor, layoffs slow. But that doesn't mean that the labor force is recovering. We could have high unemployment and a stagnant labor force even when layoffs are low. Isn't the fact that hires exceed separations indicative of a healthy labor market? Unfortunately, no.

At any point in the business cycle, even during a recession, American firms still hire a huge number of workers. That's because most of the action in the labor market reflects "churn," the continual process of replacing workers, not net expansion or contraction of employment. The lowest number hired in any month of the current recession was 3.6 million workers. Even during the dismal year of 2009 there were more than 45 million hires.

Bear in mind that the U.S. labor force has more than 150 million workers or job seekers. In a typical year, about one-third or more of the work force turns over, leaving their old jobs to take new ones. When the labor market creates 200,000 jobs, it is because five million are hired and 4.8 million are separated, not because there were 200,000 hires and no job losses. When we're talking about numbers as large as five million, the net of 200,000 is small and may reflect minor, month-to-month variations in the number of hires or separations.

The third fact puts this in perspective. In a healthy labor market like the one that prevailed in 2006 and early 2007, American firms hire about 5.5 million workers per month. Recall that the current number of hires is four million and it has not moved much from where it was two years ago. The labor market does not feel like it is expanding if hiring is not occurring at a recovery-level pace—and that means at least a half million more hires per month than we are seeing now.

The combination of low hiring and a large stock of unemployed workers, now 13.7 million, means that the competition for jobs is fierce. Because there are now many more unemployed workers, and because hiring is only about 70% of 2006 levels, a worker is about one-third as likely to find a job today as he or she was in 2006. It is no wonder that workers do not feel that the labor market has recovered.

One final fact is worth noting. Healthy labor markets are characterized not only by high levels of hiring, but also by high levels of separations. Although it is true that the importance of quits relative to layoffs rises during good times, even the number of layoffs was greater in the strong labor market of 2006-07 than it is now. No one would suggest that layoffs are good for workers, but what is good is a fluid labor market, where workers and firms constantly seek to produce better products and to find more efficient ways to produce them. High labor market churn is a characteristic of a strong economy. It generally means that workers are moving to better jobs in growing sectors that pay higher wages and away from declining sectors that pay lower wages.

Allowing maximum flexibility encourages fluidity and means that employers are willing to hire workers who lose their jobs elsewhere. Many European countries have restricted mobility by imposing severance pay penalties on employers that lay workers off. More than reducing layoffs, these rigidities make employers reluctant to hire because of the penalties that they will later incur if a layoff is necessary. Such restrictions are in large part responsible for the chronically high rates of unemployment that have been prevalent in many European countries.

The prescription for the American labor market is simple: low taxes on capital investment, avoidance of excessively burdensome regulation, and open markets here and abroad. We must create a climate in which investment is profitable, productivity is rising, and employers find it profitable to increase their hiring rate. These are the mantras that economists have chanted in the past. But they are our best bet for ensuring a dynamic and growing labor market.

Mr. Lazear, chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers from 2006-2009, is a professor at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business and a Hoover Institution fellow.

Stunner: NFP Up Just 18K, Unemployment Rate 9.2%, Household Survey Down 445K, Birth Death +131K
Zero Hedge ^ | July 8, 2011 | Tyler Durden

________________________ ________________________ _______________

Absolute disaster. Total jobs per the establishment survey: +18K on expectations of 105K, Private Jobs + 57K on expectations of 132K. Last month total was revised from 54K to 25K. Combined April and May revision down 44K. The household survey was down by 445K from 139,779 to 139,334. Birth death adjustment + 131K. Complete humiliation for Wall Street's economists, the lowest prediction of whom came Bob Brusca at +60K. From the NFP: "Nonfarm payroll employment was essentially unchanged in June (+18,000), and the unemployment rate was little changed at 9.2 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment in most major private-sector industries changed little over the month. Government employment continued to trend down." It is time for Joe LaVorgna to retire, with his 175K forecast, or off by a factor of 972%.

Some key jobs categories:

Employment in government continued to trend down over the month (-39,000). Federal employment declined by 14,000 in June. Employment in both state government and local government continued to trend down over the month and has been falling since the second half of 2008.

Manufacturing employment changed little in June. Following gains totaling 164,000 between November 2010 and April 2011, employment in this industry has been flat for the past 2 months. In June, job gains in fabricated metal products (+8,000) were partially offset by a loss in wood products (-5,000).

Construction employment was essentially unchanged in June. After having fallen sharply during the 2007-09 period, employment in construction has shown little movement on net since early 2010.

There is no sugarcoating this report. Absolutely abysmal.

To be honest... I can't say that anything has "fixed" the economy... I can't say anything has exactly "hurt", but fixed... certainly not.

I am very upset that he has not stopped the spending of 2 wars almost going on 10 years old.

That's a lot of money and one of the primary reason I was for him in 2008. Not stopping those wars has been in extremely poor taste.

You could have saved the time and the keystrokes by just admitting you can't answer the question.

my point is..no answer that contradicts yours will ever suit you anyway..I have never seen anyone of you conservatives on here change your minds about anything..so again..why bother???....If I sensed that you had even a small amount of critical thinking I would engage you but as I said... why bother>??

he obviously thought the economy would get better on its own..he guessed wrong....but again, the president has very little affect on the economy...if this was the case then the economy would never go bad since the president would fix it right away

So, answer this question.

If the president has very little affect on the economy, why does Obama, his administration and most democrats still blame Bush for the state of the current economy?

sigh...I know this is a monumental waste of time, but 1. Bush put in tax cuts the American public did not need.... 2. He got us into two long unfunded wars in Iraq and afghanistan costing over a trillion dollars and rising 3. he sponsored and signed the drug prescription bill for seniors which helps seniors pay for their medicine, again it was unfunded and is costing billions

lets see if you will acknowledge this or if its a wste of time (again) and you will say the above is false and come up with some way to blame Obama

Oh. I see. So the president is a factor when it comes to the economy. Or is that only applicable to Bush?

Now. Has Obama had a negative or positive effect on the economy? You just spewed talking points of the democratic party as to how Bush affected the economy. Has Obama's presidency impacted the economy at all?

sighhh..you see?..I knew this was a wase of time..what I said wasn't partisan..it was the truth..those events DID happen..Bush did all of the above that I mentioned.....but you say its "democratic talking points"....this is why there is no consensus in this country and why everything is fucked up...everything is dem talking points or repub talking points...no one wants to even admit that events actually happened...or agree on anything

I think that Bush should no longer be blamed for the economy....its Obama's ball now.....but Bush did terrible damage to the economy with the above actions that he took....I say this as a person who voted for Bush

You posted that it is "Obama's ball now"? Actually, it was his economy starting in 2009, when everything went to hell.

Question. You said it is "Obama's ball now". Is the economy worse now or better than when Bush was president?

Actually it went to hell shortly before he was elected.....but no matter....the economy is his now so he has to take blame now....the economy is worse but all indicators were going down when Obama was elected and they have continued to do so.....but you can't say its just Obama's fault and that it.....the congress and president are not working together..thats the problem....they are like two guys fighting in the middle of the ocean and drowning ech other and us in the process

No, no, no. You are incorrect about that.

I suggest you look at the UE data, foreclosures, and all economic indicators after he took office.

Even gas prices when Bush left office was lower than at any time that Obama has been president.

Thanks for admitting that the economy is worse now than ever.

Now, you are so close to laying equal blame on Obama.

So, has all the legislations passed by Obama prevented the economy from getting worse? NO. You stated it's worse. So, is Obama to blame? Should Obama take responsibility for not improving the economy as he claimed he would? Remember what he claimed that his Stim Bill would do!!!

All of those points you posted have been acknowledged on here more than enough times.

Medicair Plan: Part D, bad and unfunded.

Twin Wars: Still going on.

Tax Cuts: Still being debated on this board.

I'm not sure why you keep painting the above as some big partisan thing on here, they aren't, and really have never been. This board is pretty critical of Bush II and his reign as President, he doesn't have many (if any) fans on here. Your tone is misguided.
