He's right. Given the "evolving" definition of marriage, it's only a matter of time before a "bisexual" wants to marry two people of the opposite sex.
NY Archbishop Worried Polygamy May be Next Battle
Thursday, 07 Jul 2011
NEW YORK (AP) — New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan says he's worried that the next step in the marriage debate will be another redefinition to allow multiple partners and infidelity.
Writing on his blog Thursday, Dolan also lamented the anti-Catholic venom that surfaced in the gay marriage battle, saying he's worried that "believers will soon be harassed, threatened, and hauled into court" for their convictions.
He also apologized to those in the gay community who may have been offended by the church's stance, saying he's honored that so many gays are at home in the Catholic Church and that his goal from the start was "pro-marriage, never anti-gay."
New York became the sixth and largest state to legalize gay marriage on June 24.

Polygamy is in the bible so Jeebus an his daddy are obviously fine with it
Maybe the bishop should spend his time worrying about the priests who are molesting kids.
That clearly a much bigger prooblem then polygamy
-
way to address the point there moron...;)
-
Priests' molesting kids is the default answer to any discussion with the libtards..regardless of subject.
-
Who cares what this idiot thinks. Fu*k him. Dude probably eats dicks by the truckload and just can't admit it.
-
how many polygamist are there in the US and how many of that group give a shit if their marriage is sanctioned by the Catholic Church
the bishop should be more worried about his dwindling donations (the real reason he wears the frock) and having enough money for future lawsuits
btw - I personally couldn't give less of a shit if someone wants 2 wives or more
who gives shit?
-
Yeah ur right..do whatever the hell u want.

what does it matter how many of them there are?
so its not right to deny gays to marry b/c there are more but its ok to deny polygamist to marry b/c there arent that many?

no I didn't
I said the same thing I've said above
Polygamy is fine with me

I love it, selective liberterianism on the part of the leftists. At some point all this "do what you want" will impede my freedom. Drug use, pedofilia...its a slippery slope that the libs will exploit. It worked with Dadt.

nothing selective about it and I don't include criminal activity in that mix
DADT would have probably worked fine except many people didn't tell but someone else outed them (I'm sure you know this)
-
I'm perfectly fine with Polygamy, and if the gays get to marry they better quit fucking with Polygamists... :o
-
I'm cool with 4 girls getting married.
-
He's right. Given the "evolving" definition of marriage, it's only a matter of time before a "bisexual" wants to marry two people of the opposite sex.
polygamy should have been the first.... Oh wait, it actually was a serious issue in America long before same sex marriage was ever mentioned....
-
BB... next we'll have to worry about some dude legally getting married to his mule right? I've actually heard that argument lol....
actually we should be more worried about what the NY Archbishop might be doing more than what others are doing lol......
-
Instead of worrying about the definition of marriage we should be discussing how to get the politicians in DC out - they are obviously fuckups. Just another diversion to keep the sheep arguing about petty things. Why now at the height of an economic collapse are they pushing these social issues? Who the fuck cares?!!
-
Do you really think that the libs want to discuss the economy right now?

Why not talk about economic and social issues? I agree the economy is the no. 1 issue, but it's not that difficult to talk about more than one subject.

Sister Wives family to challenge Utah polygamy laws
By James Nelson
SALT LAKE CITY | Tue Jul 12, 2011
SALT LAKE CITY (Reuters) - The family featured on the reality TV series "Sister Wives," about an ad executive and four women he calls spouses, is going to court to challenge the government's right to criminalize its lifestyle, the family's lawyer said on Tuesday.
The family, in a lawsuit to be filed on Wednesday, will challenge Utah's bigamy statute. It is not trying to get the government to recognize plural marriage, just to stay out of the intimate affairs of consenting adults.
"We are only challenging the right of the state to prosecute people for their private relations and demanding equal treatment with other citizens in living their lives according to their own beliefs," family attorney Jonathan Turley said in a statement.
"Sister Wives", which has just concluded its second season, premiered in the U.S. on the TLC cable network in September, earning strong ratings while also drawing the attention of authorities in the Utah town of Lehi, south of Salt Lake city, where the family shared a large house.
The show documents the world of Kody Brown, then 41, and the four women he lives with -- Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn -- along with their children, as they seek to fit in with mainstream society while maintaining their religious beliefs in plural marriage.
Brown is legally married to just one of the women, but counts the three others as "sister wives," a term in polygamous sects that refers to a husband's multiple marital partners.
Turley said earlier this year that the Browns and their 16 children moved from their Lehi, Utah home to an undisclosed location in Nevada.
Lehi residents had complained about the publicity and felt the show depicted their community in an unsavory light.
NO CHARGES
Utah law enforcement officials conducted an investigation into the family but no charges have been filed, and their lawyer has previously praised prosecutors for their "commendable discretion and judgment" in the case.
He has said that in the past, Utah officials had made it clear to polygamous families that they would not pursue them absent evidence of another crime, such as child abuse.
Plural marriage, an early tenant of the Mormon faith and once common in Utah, was renounced by the church more than 150 years ago and outlawed, as it already was in the rest of the country, as Utah was seeking statehood.
But polygamy persists in secluded communities scattered mostly around the West, especially among followers of a Mormon splinter group called the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or the FLDS.
"There are tens of thousands of plural families in Utah and other states. We are one of those families. We only wish to live our private lives according our beliefs," Kody Brown said in a statement released through his attorney.
"While we understand that this may be a long struggle in court, it has already been a long struggle for my family and other plural families to end the stereotypes and unfair treatment given consensual polygamy," he added.
Plural marriage was largely overlooked by Utah authorities until 2001, when polygamist Tom Green went on national TV to espouse his lifestyle. He ultimately was convicted of bigamy for being married to five women simultaneously, and of child rape in connection with his 1986 marriage to a 13-year-old girl. He served several years in prison.

Who the fuck cares?
Unless you are bible Thumper and believes everyone should follow the bible, what difference does it make if someone wants to have a civil union or a marriage with more than one person?
If you are concerned about the tax breaks than water it down for anyone union consisting of more than 2.
This is such stupid shit.
This is supposed to be the land of the free. Not the land of the bible or homophobes, or poly phobes or what ever... ::)

that people are getting all spun up over polygamy and not focusing on how our representatives on both sides of the isle are sodomizing us every day?

and what is that "good reason"?
-
and what is that "good reason"?
The reason is because it doesn't follow judeo-christian principals.

and what is that "good reason"?
Societal cohesion is important and when people live like libertines you have social rot and decay all over the place that plagues the nation.
Being from Cali I thought you would understand that.

You mean there wasn't that type of thing in the bible and because of that its wrong and therefore a good reason to outlaw it?

Really?
Do they allow polygamy in Asia, India, etc?

We do it all the time - you look at that fat nasty marxist wretch Michelle Obama telling everyone how to eat.
BTW - where polygamy is practiced is typically the most backward places, like Kenya, certain arab states, etc.
Thankfully, most in this nation would rather not live like we are in Kenya (Which sadly does not include you know who)

hehehehe
I know we do it all the time, it just cracks me up that when libs do it its frowned upon by conservatives and vice versa.
People should be able to live how ever the they want as long as it doesn't directly harm or affect others.
Otherwise to say people can't is Fascist.
Land of the free! ::)

Oh and polygamy is practiced int he US. I'll be the most popular state for it in 2 weeks. How fun.
Land of the free! ::)

yep, that and mind your own business
Isn't it usually the liberal democrats who want to pass laws to tell people how to live their life? Laws to tell people not to buy plasma TVs, not to buy incandescent light bulbs, laws not to eat salt, laws not to eat saturated fats, laws not to eat at McDonald's etc.? They don't mind their own business, do they?

Both sides do it and accuse each other.

I'd say most of the country cares, given that it's illegal in all 50 states.

By your given argument: it's illegal to play dominoes on Sundays in Alabama, do you think most people there care about that?

also Incestuous marriage is legal there too.

I'm going to take this in a different direction and say there are two political theories that advocate the government do NOT interfere with how people live their life (by Mill's Harm Principle in his book On Liberty) and that is liberalism and libertarianism. Rawls (liberal egalitarian) advocated a Kantian respect for the person as a rational, autonomous, individual capable of choosing their own ends (their own conception of the "good life"). Conservatives, in my opinion, might tell people how to live to protect the "social order" or to protect "how things are always done."
Now, with that being said, democrats tend to regulate environmental affairs because left to individual rationality and cost/benefit analysis, the environment would be in ruins (Tragedy of the Commons mentality). I may be wrong but I don't think there are laws that say you cannot eat salt, or saturated fats, or mcdonalds.
Needless to say, some registered democrats who are elected into public office might not abide by these principles.

LMFAO

By your given argument: it's illegal to play dominoes on Sundays in Alabama, do you think most people there care about that?
I'd say most people in Alabama probably don't know that it's illegal to play dominoes on Sundays, so no I don't really see a correlation.
We're talking about something the entire country has said they don't want, and the entire country knows about. I wouldn't put dominoes in that category. Great game though. :)

also Incestuous marriage is legal there too.
Brother/sister, or cousin stuff?

My point is, is that most people don't think about it, hence they don't care unless it's brought up.
If it was spread all over the news that people couldn't play dominoes on Sundays people would care.

If that's your point, then I agree. People probably don't think or talk much about polygamy laws. That doesn't mean people don't care about them. It's just something that has been settled for a long time and doesn't come up too much.
If people in Alabama knew it was illegal to play dominoes on Sundays, they would probably repeal that law. (At least that's my guess.)
I doubt we can say the same about polygamy. Everyone already knows it's illegal and has been for a very long time, and there has been no real movement to make it legal.
-

Yeah, then there's the schools banning certain drinks and foods. Love how the libs want to tell people what to do when they support something.

Which makes ya wonder.... Why do they need it to be legal? If ten women want to pledge themselves to one man, they can at their discretion. Same with gays. But its really about tax benefits. And i don't think it will ever be legal for polygamists

Brooklyn Dem Felix Ortiz wants to ban use of salt in New York restaurants
Thursday, March 11, 2010
If State Assemblyman Felix Ortiz has his way, the only salt added to your meal will come from the chef's tears.
The Brooklyn Democrat has introduced a bill that would ban the use of salt in New York restaurants - and violators would be smacked with a $1,000 fine for every salty dish.
"No owner or operator of a restaurant in this state shall use salt in any form in the preparation of any food," the bill reads.

"This might, in fact, completely eliminate plasma TVs from the market, as LCD televisions have been making more progress in efficiency than plasma. Of course, this wouldn't stop Californians from driving to Nevada, or ordering their televisions online."

CA banned transfat in restaurants and was supported by both parties and signed into law by a Republican Governor
you can still eat all the transfat you want without restriction so I don't see how this supports your claim liberals want to pass laws to tell people how to live their life. You can eat all the transfat, saturarated fat, McDonalds, etc.... while sitting in front of your plasma TV.
BTW - tell me what law in general is not aimed at telling someoone how to live their life to some extent. We have laws that say how fast you can drive, require you to wear a seatbelt, helmet, etc.... The list in endless
Here's a classic example of how Christian Republican are trying to tell people (many of whom do not even share their religious beliefs) how to live their life.
South Dakota passed a law that woman must attend counseling prior to having an abortion. And of course it's not just generic or unbiased counseling. It's counseling to "to educate, counsel and otherwise assist women (to keep) their relationship with their unborn children."
People in CA can eat all the trans fat they want but if you choose to have an abortion in the state of South Dakota you're required by law to see a counselor and most likely one with a christian agenda who might well wind up harassing the woman regarding what should be a private health matter between her and her doctor
note: for some reason the copy and past function is this site has stopped workign but I got that quote from CNSnews.com

TRUE criminal activity takes away the liberties and rights of other people, so of course those do not count.
This is where I don't see how these lawmakers get it... There's things that impact others directly, and then there's all the bull shit laws. (of which there are more than real crimes)

Where is the criminal activity in a restaurant owner serving foods seasoned with salt? Where's the criminal activity in a California citizen buying a plasma TV at his local store?

Where is the criminal activity in an American citizen going out to eat at a restaurant to enjoy a meal seasoned with salt? Where is the criminal activity in a store owner selling plasma TVs? Where's the criminal activity in a California citizen buying a plasma TV at his local store?
you've still provided zero evidence of actual "laws to tell people not to buy plasma TVs, laws not to eat salt, laws not to eat saturated fats, laws not to eat at McDonald's etc.?
" and of course no proof that "liberals" are doing this.
CA banned transfats in restaurants with bi-partisan support and signed by a Republican governor because they deemed it a public health hazard, much like smoking which is also banned in restaurants. Even though it is banned in a specific place there is nothing stopping you from obtaining all the transfats you might desire just like there is nothing stopping you from smoking yourself to death.
On the contrayr, I gave you a real law, enacted by Republicans that is truly intended to tell people how to live their lives and is incredibly intrusive on what should be a private matter between a woman and her doctor.
as of yet, you have no response
btw - what does any of this have to do with a old man in frock who is worried about polygamy?
