last thread got deleted and this was never adressed...
thoughts?

Im guessing he will say to do both. Both are good.
The Hammer Machine handles converge at the top of the movement so it offers a better contraction at the top of the movement.
The Smith Machine allows for a wider hand spacing so it provides a better stretch at the bottom of the movement. (also you can vary the angle of the bench on the smith machine)
-
I usually do the hammer incline... and I hit it towards the end, after dumbbells. I do a few heavy weight sets for about 8, then drop and hit a few sets of 15-20. These last sets are done like Cutler would, stopping before full contraction. You can really get a great burn in the upper pecs I find.
I usually do bar inclines also, but either first or second.. and usually without a smith.

no ,, barbel is nto as good as hammer,, your pecs will hurt in good way after many years of training when doing hammers if done correctly and very heavy,,it isolate the pecs very well,, it grow fibery meaty pecs,,ofcourse you got to be lean to begin with which is always a must inorder to look like bodybuilder,, you just cant look lik ebodybuilder walking around 20% bodyfat no matter how much muscle you have or how much you want,, if you are in single digits..no matter 5-10 hammer will develop you great pecs that are noticable and are thick full and fibery and it will put concentration on the pecs ,,the barbell is good preferably smith but only as secondary to hammer ,,
im talking ADVANCED BODYBUILD HERE,, i do suggest for begginer to go barberl for some time,, but! for advance bodybuild ...nothing will break platue like hammers

GH15,
I remember reading from you once sometime back that the Pecs are purely a genetic thing and after they have been maxed with hormones, training will only effect them so much. Am I wrong about this or do you think the pecs are something that can be developed even if they are a structurally and gentically weak part on your body (in terms of how you look for bodybuilding)?

swiss ball cable flys super setted with one arm cable crossovers.....
-
I wish my gym had some hammer strength equipment. We at least have a good smith machine no one bothers to use. 8)

the shape...is genetic,,you can develop better bigger thicker ...more quality muscle with hormones and training..you will max it ofcourse and then be stuck,,if you have weak pecs ...most likley they will alays be your weak bodypart,,,same if you have weak arms...but even weak arms can get you second place in team universe....WITH enough hormones lol,, its all in the hormones friends,, consitant training is a must no matter what

I've been lifting for over 25yrs.. So when you say advanced,do you mean juiced up junkies..? It isn't that old school I'm speaking of either.. I just don't believe in complicating things, that's all . Just go to the gym and work out.. What ever is lagging, just give it a little more attention.. Simple fixes, for simple problems... Like Coleman says, everybody wanna be a bodybilda...!!!! But nobody wanna lif no heby a$$ weight!! But I do it tho!!
-
next tie you in the gym put 6 plates each side of the hammer incline...and try to move it ,,MUCH harder than 3 plates each side of the barbel ,,,much harder..but yes its true...most fellas on hammer are hormonized lol it helps us with risk of injury with very heavy weight

conditionis name of the game ...you do have very goo dcondition but! still too smooth ..5-7lb would make night and day diff on you and you would havbe won the show

If I put 6 plates on the barbell,it would make it harder than 6 plates on the Hammer,so the point is..? But I do respect your honesty..

I need to build bigger pecs
decline hammers- best chest exercise PERIOD.

gh15,
flat fly or incline fly ???
-
point is ...who in the right mind put 6 plates on barbel unless they are stupid bodybuilder?,,kovacs did on the incline ...you saw what he looked like lol with all that weight,,few very strong bodybuild put 5 on each side of the barbel ,, kevin ,,ron ,, kai i did too but it just too much risk of injury unless you are relaly with spotter all the way and realy willing to take the risk ,, too much risk especialy when pecs are your best body part

I'm no bodybuilder,so problem solved, right? If you push anything too much,it will break.. That goes for everything... People just don't know when to put the weight down and heal up.. Everyone wants to push past the breaking point.. People seem to believe that if you skip a few sets ,all your gains will go away.. ? It's just lifting weights, for sh!ts sake..!!!! Who really cares...!!?????

Bombz: You sure that's a decline? It looks like the flat version.
We have the decline with the seatbelt and I didn't like it. I do like the flat version (and incline) though.
My feet dangle from the decline version.. and i'm 6 foot! It's a weird feeling..

not sure but the "decline hammer" (as its labeled) in my gym is the same as the one dj is usin in that video. best way to isolate the pecs. since i started using it ive got thick full pecs for the first time.

Yip, yip

The one in the video looks just like the flat version too. The decline and flat look almost identical.
Regardless, i'll give the decline another go.
Does yours have the seatbelt?
-
decline... hammer hardly ever used it...maybe twice in my gym its a machine younger guys load with plates.. to show off...
take it from a chest guy its garbage

Exactly!!

I have never felt anything using a decline Hammer chest machine, seems its too much on the front delts then anything, only once did i get a good contraction on the pecs and that was using very low to moderate weight

no seat belt
i put the seat low so the hands are up higher
but i used to have it high so the hands were lower
it kinda shifts the focus from lower to center chest.
-
yeah we need gh to talk about hand placement when doing hammer machines if it matters at all.. or range of motion at least, for instance when i do shoulder hammer presses i tend to get sore as hell in my upper lats. i know that the pressing movement will activate those muslces as well but i mean like sore as fuck like more than if i did an actual lat workout

ughhhh I can do more weight on the hammer than I can barbell

Its not garbage but yeah for noobies that just load it with plates its a total waste of energy, however if u know how to feel your chest on it and use a full ROM its totally worth it. for guys like u however u are more concerned with poundages and it seems like that works for you... for me personally i switch it up but you will rarely catch me on a normal barbell bench its either smith for incline or dumbbells if i really wanna move weight...

Im a dumbell guy.... I benched today coincidentally and did free weight decline.....i havent benched in 3 months or so...
machine decline has never done anything for me.... barbell ecline i probably do twice a year....
guys like me who are concerned with poundages... wonder where yu got that from/...
strength is relative

i said that because i remember in one of your threads you mentioned working your way up to 200's on flat and 160's on incline, if that isnt being concerned with poundages you may be top 10 percent strongest in the world.

no ... my gym goes up to 160's never even seen a 200lb dumbell
145 inclines... 160's flat which i do after inclines not that it matters... if person b max is 100's.. an he uses those for his final set me using 160's or 170's doesnt mean im more intense.. its all relative
...
this thread has nothing to do with weight were talking about the effectiveness of different exercises

I once hammered an incline bench when the bolt was loose.
