i seriously see nasser better in this pose especially with his better hams and calves!!.. at their best shawn was better than nasser only in one pose (RDB)..
-
Nasser destroys him
-
Ray has a deeper lower back and has a better shoulder to waist ration in all 3 pics, Nasser has him an overall size, so can go either way by bodybuilding judging standards
-
You are demonstrating why neither won an Olympia.

i agree with you but when you put their lower bodies into consideration i think nasser was better in this pose overall.. nasser real weak pose comparing to other top pros in his era was the RDB..
dorian looked worse than all the other top pros in the FDB pose (after 93) but for dorian it was only one pose,.. not a big thing!!.. for nasser it was a different story :-\

no i am saying that nasser's lack of details in his back was a weak point in one pose only,.. the same as dorian's nonexistent left biceps which affected one pose only!!..
sure dorian's RLS destroyed all the others in his time not only nasser.. nasser's RLS was ok comparing to other top pros like shawn and kevin and was better than dillett's..

They each had 1 week pose, but Yates strong poses were extemely dominent where Nsser's strong points were excllent but not dominent. Yates rdb untouble, side triceps untouchble, fls untouchable , rls untouchable

i mean johnny that his RLS at his best was combarable to the likes of ray and levrone.. dont you agree with me in this??..

if you are talking about yates best i cant argue.. this is why dorian dominated in 93 and 95.. i also see him deserving the title in 94 because of these "untouchable" poses.. in 96 he was flat but still in a great condition but for me he didnt deserve to win.. in 97 it was horrible to make him win,.. even his best poses were not as impressive impressive as their normal.. especially his FLS,.. didnt look good at all with his weak right arm and deformed left arm and his soft quads that lacked details..
why didnt judges deal with his soft quads in 97 the same way they were always dealing with nasser's soft back??..
-
shawn ray considered his back as his weakness
I think it was the only one, besides having a small frame
-

Comparable with Ray and Levrone @ his Best in the RLS... Yes Comparable... better? apples and Oranges especially the Structure differences, Size etc with Nasser and Shawn, in the RLS imo Shawn carry's the pose off slightly better due to his Lowerlat insertions and the Detail in his back along with the Tie-ins with his Hams/glutes etc

+ his high calves.. still not bad for a black man..
-
+ his high calves.. still not bad for a black man..
high, but very, very well developed, very good for a black man, especially when you look at ronnies and joj's calves

I will give 97 but not 96

Nasser has better hair..
-
Nasser looks great here

yes i said they were good for a black man but when judges compare they dont put into consideration the color of each competitor's skin.. beside dorian's, nasser's, or, paul's shawn's calves were clearly worse..
as for ronnie's calves they were bad even for someone who doesn't train and in my opinion they killed the symmetry of his whole lower body!!..
-
Nasser looks great here
good pic. that shows exactly what i am talking about.. beside other top pros nasser's RLS looked very good.. they (with the exception of dillet) owned him badly only in one pose (RDB)..
-
Great thread Sherief! Nasser's back being a weakness was really over-exaggerated as he had wide and thick lats and overall a great rear lat spread as you proved above.

not only soft quads but very small disproportionate pulombism arms, barrel waist, etc.!

Thank you!

There is a huge difference between Nasser in post #1 and Nasser in post #16.
In post #1, as big as he his, he looks like a blob and his ass is about to fall out of his pants. Yes, his back is holding its own in terms of size but Ray, in my opinion wins that pose because of the lines and balance he brings. Nasser simply cannot match him in that regard.
In post #16, he looks much more aesthetic and he doesn't look as if he is about melt. And because he looks as if he not melting, he actually compares much more favourably with Ray and a case can be made for him beating Ray in that shot.
In bodybuilding, blobs should never triumph over sculptures.

Shawn really didn't have any weaknesses, aside from being short.

Actually the difference is just that the first pic is a screencap so is lower res and makes him look less detailed. For the same reason Shawn also looks less detailed in the first pic than the others.

wouldnt call nasser a blob ... but shape with size proportionate should be king....

It was not his width or thickness per se, it was the lack of detail that was the issue...
Had he had a more detailed back, I could possibly see him beating Flex at the 97 AC---regardless of Flex's lines.

Nasser kills Shawn in the RLS
Nasser's back was huge- , wide and thick. in the RLS it jsut wasnt as dry or detailed in the RDB.
Nasser in 98 was amazing, his conditioning in the O that year was prob. his best ever.
The O could have certainly been given to Nasser in 98 esp with Ronnie's terrible gyno and lack of calves.

Nasser should and could have won 97 over Dorians mangled body far and away before he should have beaten Ron in 98.
But agree on both points with the gyno and lack of calves, dont forget random crap 4 pack abs. But 98 was Ronnies best year ever, only year he approached Dorians dryness.

If a physique has a certain amount of flare to it, then that flare goes a long way towards cancelling out any blob look that carrying too much muscle does to a physique.
Shawn Ray was never too big for his frame and his physique had a certain amount of flare when he posed.
Nasser, whom I thought looked great earlier in his career, started to have too much muscle for his frame. He was able to carry it well enough, I guess, but he lost his earlier flare because of it.
Bodybuilding judges ought not to be rewarding physiques that go beyond their frames.

not true at all because in 96 nasser competed in the olympia and GP tour at +285 pounds and still looked great.. same in 1999 when he won the AC at 289 pound,.. still was not as good as in 96 but was very good and it was his heaviest contest weight ever..

The oddity of Nasser's shape shows from the back. Weird looking torso, no back detail. Sorry gh15
