Title: NPC USA - More info than you need to know.
Post by: stuntmovie on July 26, 2011, 11:11:37 AM
OK, NPC USA 'week' has started and tickets for the Friday night prejudging, Saturday morning prejudging, and the Saturday evening finals  are presently on sale at the Hamm Hall box office on the UNLV campus.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT NOTHING I SAY HERE IS OFFICIAL, SO IF ANY OF THIS IS OF PRIME IMPORTANCE, CHECK WITH THE OFFICIAL NPC USA WEBSITE. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS SOLELY BASED ON MY "PERSONAL HANDS-ON AND ON-THE-GR0UND EXPERIENCE AND OBSERVATION".

*** FIRST FORCE!!! RAH!!!*****

Prejudging  tickets are presently being sold at Hamm Hall on the UNLV campus and are $40 each with a tax and service charge of approximately $6 per ticket for a total of about $46 each. The Saturday night finals tickets are also available but I did not check on the price.

You can possibly save that $6 per ticket if you purchase your tickets at the host hotel (Embassy Suites) once the promoter gets the ticket sales area set  up which has never been a problem in the past as Jon always seems to have great people working this yearly event.

The above does not include any information regarding the finals ticket prices but that additional fee will apply if you purchase them at the Hamm Hall ticket booth.

Check -ins, weigh-ins, and height-ins will take place at the Embassy on Thursday night starting at 6:30 PM followed by final check-in, weigh-in and height-ins the following morning (8:00 AM) at Hamm Hall.

If you are not familiar with the location of Hamm Hall (HAM??) on the UNLV campus and if it is important for  you to be there at a scheduled time, I recommend you take a cab or a limo or simply scout it out personally beforehand. It is located on the eastern edge of the UNLV campus with its non-discript entrance off of Maryland Parkway close to the Flamingo/Maryland Parkway intersection. (Best to get a map!)

Friday night prejudging for men's bodybuilding and women's bikini starts at 4:30 PM but I don't officially know who will go on first and each event will take more than a couple of hours and the Friday night prejudging will most likely conclude sometime  after 10:00 PM

Saturday prejudging for the ladies' bodybuilding, men's physique, and women's physique will start at 9:00 AM and will be followed  by the women's figure at a time to be announced.

The Saturday night finals will start at 4:30 PM and will most likely conclude sometime after 10:00 PM (Based on past experience).

Conclusion times are mentioned due to the fact that the vast majority of the audience and contenders will be searching for a place to grab a decent meal after the contest .... and in the present economy many of the best places to eat in LV are closed that late in the evening. I can offer a number of great suggestions if anyone is interested. One place in particular is actually the best of the best if you want a good meal at a very decent price and is open 24/7 and within a mile of the UNLV campus.

Sunday morning there will be NPC photo sessions for the winners but it is best to check the website on those details.

I'll do my best to keep you up to date and I hope some of you other GetBiggers will add to this site with your typical intelligent submissions and comments.

Here's a contest question : WHICH GETBIGGER WILL BE ENTERING?

First correct winner gets some slightly used DVD's .... some of which you'll really appreciate.

RON, Can you provide the order of competition for the Friday and Saturday prejudging events as well as the order of competition for the finals?

A good number of the locals want to see the female competitions but don't get off work until  6 PM and have no reason to purchase tickets if that portion of the event is over.

Any official word?

Not sure, but this is what is on the official site

With Men's Physique in there, my guess is that we will find it out by Thursday evening (when the competitors check in).  We do know that in the finals, the Men usually go last.

Thanks. Ron.

If that’s the official schedule the order of conestants should be as follows:

FRI NIGHI PREJUDGING: STARTING AT 4:30:
1.   Men’s Bodybuilding
2.   Lady’s Bikini

SAT MORNING PREJUDGING STARTING AT 9:00 AM
1.Women’s Bodybuilding
2. Men’s Physique
3. Women’s Physique
4. Women’s Figure

SAT NIGHT FINALS STARTING AT 6 PM
Unknown at this time, but as RON states above the male bodybuilding finals are always the evening's final event.

Expect an 11:30 end of show and a big rush to find a decent meal.

Forecast/prediction of the USA results based on absolutely nothing at all....  Just a wild assed guesstimate.

But I think Kuclo and Tamer will be top dogs this time out.

Any other inaccurate predictions?

Winner gets a whole damn series of DVD's if you can name top 2 men who get a Pro Card

Check in started at 6:30 this evening in the Embassy Hotel lobby area and appeared to have prcceeded very well. The lobby was packed with contestants, officials. trainers, family members, photographers, and well wishers.

Those who appeared to be most busy were:

Dave Palumbo looking fit as a fuddle conducting video interviews with various contestants.

Sean Ray and his fine crew also conducting video interviews with an interesting Elvis statue in the background.

Our own Ron and Isaac  observing all the activity and taking photos. Isaac was almost un-noticeable with his new lean appearance having recently competed in his first Physique event. Great work, Isaac!

All this activity while the weigh-ins and "height-ins" were conducted in the background.

Chris Cormier walking the room shaking hands with one and all,

George Farrah doing likewise,

Kuclo much bigger and taller than I recall from previous contests with Sean Ray and a short video interview.

Vic DelCampo's dad proudly watching as Vic is interviewed by Sean.  Vic and his dad look more like brothers than father and son.

The great looking ladies of  SASS posing as a group for the photographers.

Kevin Perod, last year's Ronnie Colman Classic Bodybuildng Champ looking somewhat unbeatable in this weekend's Physique Division event. Appears to be this event's only contender who is capable of excelling in both bodybuilding and physique.

Some of the most beautiful  women in Las Vegas all gathered in one place at this little hotel lobby.

Tamer looking ready to do battle and win a Pro Card. Ditto Kuclo, ditto DelCampo. And the huge black contender who resembles a mountain of muscle whose name I did not ge. My apologies.

Jeff Dwell looking in top condition too.

And Eli Bluhut vastly improved within a 12 month time frame.

And the typical hotel guests all looking a bit bewildered.

More to follow.

The 'BESTEST' place to eat in LV was fully loaded after last night's check in procedures were completed, but the bodybuilding crowd failed to make an appearance because they just don't know about it.

Not yet ...anyway!

It's in a very small local's casino on Koval Lane one block east of L.V. Blvd and within steps of Flamingo Blvd.

It's definitely not a fancy place but have a meal there once ... and you'll return often.

Full meals start in the $6 range and top off around $12. The Steak Special is close to $7 but you won't find it on the menu. You gotta ask!

This casino is called "ELLIS ISLAND" and is definitely worth a 'look-see'.

It serves meals 24/7 so if you go for breakfast, I'll suggest Ham and Eggs.

I'll pass the word and see how many show up after the finals.

I spoke with GRANT upon his arrival in town yesterday afternoon (Thurs) and he'll  be setting up his booth space in the Ham Hall auditorium this afternoon.

All GetBiggers are encouraged to stop by and shake his hand  .... one hell of a great guy.

Encourage him to start competing once again.

Cody Lewis arrived in town on a delayed flight from San Jose, California  about 4 hours late and showed up at his hotel (the Luxor) about 1:30  in the morning only to find out that the room he had reserved on line with a credit card was unavailable due to the fact that he is not yet 21.

So he had to resolve that problem with phone calls to friends to see who would answer at that hour and drive down to the Strip to resolve the problem.

ANd once he got to the room, it was a mess and had to once again resolver that problem.

LESSON HERE: You can't check into a LV hotel unless you are 21+.

G_THANG ... In LIFT's prejudging post you said ....."like i said, he'll get his pro card, but didn't make the improvements he should have, given he was down in Arlington and Plano."

If you were commenting on KUCLO .... that was the general consensus of opinion from many who expected him to be in a bit better condition for this IFBB qualifying event.

It's going to be interesting to see what the 'experts' have to say when it's all over.

Some say he'll be in top shape in tonite's finals as 24 hours will make a hell of a difference.

I'll be surprised if he doesn't take the overall though .... but it'll be a 'sign' that the judges agree with ya if he doesn't.

Some of you GETBIGGERS 'complain' about the use of tanning products in BB contests and/or how bad the contestants appear in photos taken at the weigh-in which can be 24 hours before their initial line-up on stage,

Here's an attempt to show you the 'difference' tanning products can make and how much a conditioning-differene 24 hours makes.

First shot was taken of Kuclo  at approximately 8 PM during Thursday night's weigh-in process at the Embassy Suites site,

Second photo was taken approximately 24 hours later at Ham Hall during the prejudging phase of the event.

And I'll do my best to post a shot of Kuclo which I plan to take at the finals in an attempt to show ya one contender's vast improvement over a very short period of time.

Maybe LIFT will help with this basic demonstration cause he has a better camera and is closer to the stage.

And sometimes it can work in the reverse order.

Oh, yea! I forgot to say that CHICK was notably absent, but GRANT was present at his booth greeting one and all. I'll do my best to post some lobby shots tonite.

CHICK, Are you in da house?

Also .... a side note ....

Hawaii's Johnny Ligsay competed once again this year which most likely sets a record for the most number of times one contestant has entered the same event. I don't know how he'll place but he should get a trophy for that alone.

no ,, there is lack of conditioning due to usage of insulina and hgh in higher doses,, mainly insulina,, he is good yes,, he will do well ,, he will win pro card,, he as i said will do very well in the pros,, but! he is best out of generation of failures,, as sad as it is ,, no tan can help this,,and only thing that can is less insulina or nothign at all,, but! you take out insulina you take 30-40 lb off him which put him at 215...so you cant do it,,thats the problem,, but our of today way of competing...yes he is doing very well

I did my best to attend each day's NPC USA events and shot as many pictures as I could from the Peanut Gallery up front directly behind the officials and the official photographers.

I was directly behind Issac whose camera probably cost him 1,000's more than my $20 Kodak, so don't start comparing my shots to his.

It was kind of funny watching that whole row of national photographers because the combined movements of each of them appeared to be coordinated by a choreograher from a Bugsey Berkely movie as each of their picture-taking movements was somewhat identical.

But that's more than ya need to know so ........

Most of you GetBiggers probably don't what to know the following either but here are the facts based on my personal observations .... And I am smart when it comes to 'observatons'. (Just ask any artillery commander if you ever run into one.)

MEN'S PHYSIQUE COMPETITION in a nutshell:

1. It was SWIFT. I didn't have a stop-watch but I think it was over in about 45 minutes.

2. It drew a good number of competitors. (Damn good beach bod competitors in most cases.)

3. The contestants had a good time and the audience (mostly family members and good friends) offered them their full support.

4. It reminded me of how exactly bodybuilding competitions started in the 60's. In fact these USA physique contestants were somewhat identical to the local event contestants back in those days. But actually these USA guys were a bit better than the local contenders back then.

5. A few of them most likely own local home-town bodybuilding titles.

6. And last of all it gave most of the camera guys and gals and those who were not interested in Physique guys in brightly colored, knee length shorts, a well earned break before the start of the next event.

I say "local contests" in #4 above ... but in most cases these USA Physique contenders had better builds than even most of those early year NATIONAL-contending bodybuilders.

This new Physique Division is going to be very popular and draw even more people into the venue to see the Bodybuilding Competitions.

Some GetBiggers think that bodybuilding comps are dieing out, but that was no-way evident this past weekend. The auditorium appeared to be almost full for each and every event and the booth exhibitors were kept very busy.

In my humble opinion this NPC event and others like it will just keep on continuing to grow despite some GetBigger's opinions .... and now with this new Physique Division competition underway .... those contenders who fail to do as well as they expected within the bodybuilding rhelm can trim down a bit and enter the Physique events.

But haterz gotta hate, so keep on truck'n.

AND enventually these Phsique contenders will be offered some worthwhile contracts by the supplement industry.

Photos to follow.... Trouble posting photos right now

Overall - Steve Kuclo  - No doubt that he would win this one this year.

Jonathan Delarosa - I never met Jonathan and had no idea how good this guy was. Not sure if I even took his photo while he was on stage. Gotta search.

Tamer El-Guindy - Another competitor whom I knew would get a pro card this time out. He barely missed it a couple of years ago and on that occasion he told me, "I'll be back better than ever!"

We sat with Tamer's mom and dad and brother and each of them knew that Kuclo deserved the overall but they also felt that their son's pro card was was definitely within his reach this time out. A very nice family who is most supportive. I run into them every time Tamer competes.

Luis Santa  - I never met Luis either but I kind of though he would be victorious the moment he came on stage.

Gonna do my best to see if I shot these winners and post them here.

Here's some more stuff that you probably don't want to read about, but it might be best to pay attention in case there is an exam at the end.

During the prejudging on Friday night we were sitting up front with a few of the Pros and each of us was making comments about some of the better competitors who were appearing on stage looking much less than their best.

And on more than one occasion the primary comments was, "What's wrong with these guys!? The7y look two weeks out!"

But one of the more intelligent pros who had "been there, done that" kept on saying, "They're doing fine but you're gonna see one hell of an improvement at the finals tomorrow night!"

And sure enough we did see ONE HELL OF AN IMPROVEMENT AT THE FINALS THE NEXT NIGHT!

ONE HELL  of an "iIMPROVED" improvement!

But I'm not sure any photo can show the improvements that the naked eye can see.

BUT ....  it's evident to me that today's competitors possess a greater degree of knowledge regarding contest prep than the pros of the recent past.

Many years ago a good friend of mine whom you all also know .... showed up to Guest Pose at one of our events and as soon as he got off that plane we knew we were in trouble .... cause he looked like SHIT.

All he said was, "I know! I Know! I look like shit, but lock me up in my hotel room for three days and I guarantee ya that I'll bring down the house!"

So we locked him up and three days later I knocked on the door and fell back three steps because this wasn't the same Guest Poser we picked up at the airport!"

And two hours later .... he did bring down the house!

But what once took three, now takes one and even better results are done .....  by these 'new kids on the block'.

JACK T, It's strange that you mentioned 'Police Officers' at the USA venue on 'official business' because when I first entered the venu for one of the prejudging events .... there were two Police Officers in full battle array having a polite discussion with some UNLV person of authority.

I was just about to give myself up ... but they merely nodded, turned, and departed the facility.

Moral of this story ... Never surrender without a fight ... or something like that.

I'd appreciate it if the GetBig lady haterz not post adverse  comments .... as a few of the ladies had to overcome some great  physical difficulties to prepare for this event and did it in an attempt to show others with medical complications what could be done.

After numerous trips to and from the airport, the USA comps are finally over. It looks like Jon did one hell of a great job and definitely deserves a week long break. ANd my hat goes off to the judging officials who spent most of their LV hours sitting in that 'heated' theater keeping scores and making sure that all proceeded in an orderly and timely fashion.

Great Job to each of ya!

CHICK, where were you this past weekend?

Next up here in LV is the Olympia this coming September 25 - 18.

If any of you GetBiggers are planning o attend and have any questions about this town, feel free to ask.

It may be a bit expensive that weekend at the Host Hoel (The Orleans) but I do recommend you book a room there amid all the action.

And be advised that all the other LV hotels will raise their rates that week simply because the Olympia is in town.

I'll also recommend a small apartment hotel directly across the street from The Orleans which includes a small kitchen. You can book a one or two bedroom unit and it's a decent place with a 20 second walk to the Orleans.

I'll post some more of the shots I took at the USA until Ron closes this one down, but don't expect anything great because I used a pretty bad camera  and had to 'mistreat' there in the Photo Shop process which I know almost nothing about.

One thing for sure from what I've seen this past weekend .... This new Men's and Women's Physique Division is going to be a big success for all concerned.

This is Coty! A great bodybuilder who dropped 20 pounds (according to his friends who sat near us) to enter this new Physique event.

This could possibly be the route that those bodybuilders who fail to win overall titles take in the foreseeable future.

I don't know how Coty placed.

Las Vegas is jam packed with some of the most beautiful ladies in the world, but most of them would have had a hard time looking great if they had to stand beside the ladies who entered this USA event last weekend.

It's good to see Tamer get a pro card. I've met his family on a few occasions and they are always there to support their son. They themselves felt that Kuclo should and would  win the overall but they also had high hopes for their son ... and it paid off.

I watched Tamer lose a close call a couple of years back and he was super disappointed but  was even then determined to 'make a come-back' in even better condition.

Las Vegas! Everyones gone home! The earth will spin on a different angle for seven weeks and then the Olympians come to town.

Peace till then.

Thanks for the sticky space, Ron!
