The New Spider-Man Unmasked
The wait is over.
A few weeks back, Ultimate Peter Parker kicked the bucket in spectacular fashion. Sacrificing his life to protect those he loved, the Ultimate Spider-Man we've been following for the past ten years laid down his life in a bout with the Green Goblin. We've known for some time that someone would be taking up the mantle, and Marvel promised us at San Diego Comic-Con that the reveal would come in this week's Ultimate Comics Fallout #4.
Turns out, as many expected, we didn't have to wait that long. Earlier tonight, USA Today had the exclusive reveal of who Peter's replacement would be. And after examining the legacy of Ultimate Spider-Man and concocting a poll in which IGN readers voted in overwhelming fashion (nearly 54%!) that Ben Reilly would take over... we were all completely wrong. Head past the image below to find out who the new Spider-Man is.
Meet Miles Morales, a half-black, half-hispanic teenager that will be replacing Peter Parker as the Ultimate Universe's web-slinger. The character is new and represents a clear step towards further diversifying superhero comics.
Writer Brian Michael Bendis told USA Today, "The theme is the same: With great power comes great responsibility. He's going to learn that. Then he has to figure out what that means."
He continued, "It's certainly long overdue. Even though there's some amazing African-American and minority characters bouncing around in all the superhero universes, it's still crazy lopsided."
Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso added, "What you have is a Spider-Man for the 21st century who's reflective of our culture and diversity. We think that readers will fall in love with Miles Morales the same way they fell in love with Peter Parker."
And finally Ultimate Comics Spider-Man artist Sara Pichelli said, "Maybe sooner or later a black or gay — or both — hero will be considered something absolutely normal."
The article confirms that the connection Miles has to Peter will be revealed when the new Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1 launches in September. Though this week we'll only see him intervene in a fight, his eventual origin will show off his new powers and supporting cast.
So there you have it! The cat's out of the bag... discuss!

Being Negrotino, I can say that doesn't even look right. Somethings you just don't change.

Bit of both, with some running from the po-po too

People don't remember that when the Original Spidey came out, people speculated that he could black due to noone knowing who was under the mask...
They'll probably changed back to Peter Parker in a few, using some alternate time-line bs

If they want to "diversify" superheros make some new fucking superheros.
Spiderman is a white nerd. Nothing else.

They came up with some crazy ass X-man who was a person of color, whose intestines turned into giant worms that ate anything and turned it into energy...
All the old ones were the coolest, Bishop, Black Panther, Luke Cage,
There was even a X-rated black version of the The Phantom in Natischa of The Lost World.

Next they'll make an obese batman because we don't want the obese people to feel left out.

Marvel has The Blob to cover that---and for stupid power lifters or bbers with no shape, it's The Rhino. For the jealous bber who is constantly eating and thinks everbody is against him, yet focuses on on his sole nemesis, it's Venom. For the huge bber who gets beat up by wrestlers/MMA guys, GI Joe has that covered with Nemesis Enforcer.

I tried to be clever one Halloween and decided to dress up like 'Peter Parker', the costume consisted of dressing up like Spiderman, then putting on some normal clothes over it!! LOL
It didn't turn out to be all that cool!
Some random girl saw me in the streets and screamed all excitedly "SPIDERMAN"...so I got pissed and yelled at her "NO! PETER PARKER!" She got upset and walked away, my buddies were cracking up!

Changing Spiderman's race has everything to do about color. If it did not he would have stayed white. Why are the PC crowd so obsessed with race and color. Seems to me they are the biggest racists of all.
Most likely this mongrel Spiderman will have a white girlfriend. You watch!
I can see it now. Jaden Smith will be the new Spiderman.

Kraven the Hunter had a black wife/girlfriend/mistress/deranged voodoo queen, by the name of Calypso. And when batman was "broken" a black doctor nurse him back to health, and he had brief romance with her.
Luke Cage is married to Jessica Jones and has a kid with her...

That's all fine, but you don't see Luke Cage becoming white do you? Why are these PC people so akward. Just come up with another character if they want a black superhere, don't steal a character. It's unoriginal and looks desperate.
They will be losing a lot of fans. And they show with this move that for them it is all about race. Hollywood, the government, corporations have all declared war on white males. Bring it bitches.

They are just trying to shake things up. Like they did with the death of Superman, and in comes Steel...Spider will be back to being white Peter Parker, in no time...
besides...You can't fool this woman...

Dont care about what color a superbook comic here is, but the tradition of Spiderman is that the story of Peter Parker and his way of growing up (being small and bullied) to being a shy superhero attracted millions of people to the story line.
Yes, the PC crowd is overwhelming in making things different, but use different characters to do that. A new member of the Justice League, or a protege of Spiderman. So many possibilities, but they try to force it down the simple way, which usually backfires.

Nothing is being forced down anyone's throats. Spiderman was suppose to originally suppose to be a black guy, the same as Captain America if you read the original books. However, because it was the 1930's and 40's, that was not realistic to cast them as being black.
Heck, regardless as to who got bit by the spider or injected with the Dianabol Super Soldier Serum, the ultimate premise of the characters are the same which is to fight against bad guys for freedom and justice.

What? No way. Your reference to the 30's and 40's is inaccurate by far. Amazing Fantasy 15 didn't come out until the real early 60's.
I've read and have most of the original Amazing Spiderman books and no where does it hint he was supposed to be black.

I was talking about Captain America, not Spiderman although in the 1960's was the height of the civil rights movement. There's multiple stories regarding the origin of Spiderman that were created as with other comic book characters.
Heck, most people don't know that in one instance, Cyclops from the X-Men became Captain America

I agree - I don't really care that he's black or hispanic... they could've replaced him with another white guy, and I'd be just as unhappy.... Spiderman is Peter Parker - plain and simple!
They should have built up more on the story of Spiderman 2099 - who's secret identity is Miguel O'Hara - Now that would've been fucking cool!

Multiple stories of spidey's origin? No there isn't, there's one. See Amazing Fantasy #15.
If youre thinking Stan Lee was thinking spidey was gonna be black, i've never read this anywhere. The idea was supposed to be a broke teen who got picked on who turns into a hero. Nothing about being black anywhere.

Mexicans and blacks are fornicating at peak rates, in 10 years 80% of comic readers will be hispanics. ;D ;D

I think it's a great idea that there are 20 Spidermen, the amazing Spider-Man, the spectacular Spider-Man, the ultimate Spider-Man, the poor Spider-Man, the gay Spider-Man, the stupid Spider-Man, the special Spider-Man (in a wheelchair) so that every minority or majprity has its own Spider-Man.

Seriously though, i think they should have made more Spider-Man 2099, i really liked that they made Spider-Man different.
I also liked the Scarlet Spider, but all in all the clone saga was utter bullshit. I love the alien symbiote, that was the most change they could have done with Peter Parker.
Killing him is just dumb, he will be back in 3 months. It's the same as DC did with Bruce Wayne retiring as Batman... ::) ::) There should be a law against fucking up comic book continuities and killing off characters.

Sure, i also see the point in that you start from the beginning to catch younger customers.
They did a good thing with the Star Trek reboot movie, for example. Which kid would be bothered to watch "Star Trek XXVIII" with 70 year old actors?
But in comic books, the changes are often too drastic, too often and worst of all, they will be undone too soon. I don't bother buying comics anymore anyways, i wait until a good storyline is finished and buy the softcover, for example Batman Hush or Ironman Extremis.
