Robin Zander.
58 yr/o he sounds better than 40% of getbiggers.
Listen generation nothingness , this is how a live band should sound .

Let's face it. Real music said bye bye, when computers started taking over...fed by the retardation of minors today.
Lil Wayne...case and point.

Geoff Tate:
-
fuk that shit ,, best singer of all time !!!!!!!!
-
End of music came with MTV.
With the entrance of music video, it became an visual entertainment, instead of something you listen to.
Now we have auto-tune which allows any fucking dipshit to sound like he can sing worth half a swamp rats asshole, and as long as you have image, you get somewhere.
I'm not saying guys like Bachman Turner Overweight ("You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" fame...aka BTO) should ever make it, but based on the image they had and the other acts of the time, they would never get a first glance much less a second glance in today's music world.
-

That pretty much means that he is a worse singer than the average fella millionaire.
-
Corey Taylor.....boom..... ;D
-
Geoff Tate:
Robin Zander is a decent singer, age aside.
Geoff Tate now has a ONE octave range and has destroyed Queensryche.
WTF is this shit?!?!

I am sorry to differ with you but this is how a real band sounds life

I like some of Deicide's stuff, but Glen Benton is a homo who admitted to taking pleasure in torturing animals.

Ronnie James Dio (RIP) was the Best. Period.

Sorry, Maynard shits all over Robin Zander:

Voice (Solid), song writing and delivery are the BEST!

SERIOUSLY, can someone tell me why in the hell these "songs" of today are drowned in robot voices, you know the voice transformer that started with cher using it. its so fucking annoying and cheap.

Because they can, that's why. Why put the time and effort into voice lessons and years of practicing mastering control of your vocal chords when you can just take the easy lazy way out and let a computer do it for you.

yes its all about making songs for the sake of money instead of the love for music, you have a few ingredients and ready, another generation nothingness song.

Tons of great vocalists and bands out there these days. The best vocalists are generally found in power metal or progressive metal bands as that type of music lends itself best to a more operatic style of singing.
-
Best vocalists these days seem to be female though imo.

Ronnie James Dio (RIP) was the Best. Period.
Best for metal I agree to a point. But best of all? I don't think so.

Robin Zander is a decent singer, age aside.

WTF is this shit?!?!
Tate was at one time one of metal's greatest, now he, and his band, are complete and utter shit. Unbelievable.

Michael Kiske = best power metal vocalist ever.
Dio = best for heavy metal.
But both can pale if we take into account singers outside of metal.
-
Why do folks always want to suggest the best in metal aren't shit when taken in relation to musicians/singers outside of the style? What kind of brainwashed foolishness is this?
-
Music today is a letdown.....plain and simple.
The best singers were from yesteryear.
here is a list of some vocalists that imho are underrated:
Gino Vanneli
Pat Benatar
Daryl Hall/John Oats
Diana Krall
Donald Fagen

Spoken like a true old fart who is a prisoner of nostalgia. The above might be your sentimental favourites, but make no mistake, there are just as many incredible singers singing today as there were in years past. A generation doesn't have a monopoly on talent. To think so is pure nonsense.
Everything was better back in my day, son ... ::)
P.S. Oh, and to clarify, I am 41, so I am not a teenager.

Yes, I listen to contemporary music/bands/artists. And I am indeed "younger" than you, simply in spirit.
So you've sampled every singer singing today and made the determination that none can equal those of the past? Don't be a dumb ass.
Rap, as a whole, has always sucked balls. Some creative folks have done the form, but as a whole (as said) ...
And you speak of me being clueless. Dream on, twatwaffle.

Thanks man. Most here don't even know who these bands are. Haha!

Two of my fav vocalists for sure ( I'm a huge fan of the first 2 Keeper albums and Dio is Dio..lol ), but best is subjective.

I own every CD from each of those four bands (and Helloween, too), plus the DVDs. The new Pagan's Mind RULES.
I have been a lifelong metalhead ... for going on 30 years now, actually.

Same man. Started listening to the standard rock/metal bands in the 70's, Sabbath, Floyd, Zepp, Purple, AC/DC etc and branched out from there. I'm really missing vinyl these days.

I take it you play/dig guitar? Jorn Viggo Lofstad (Pagan's Mind) is one of my modern favourites. My all-time fave is Jeff Waters (Annihilator; I own his signature Epiphone Annihilation axe). Other faves: Eric Johnson, Warren DeMartini, Neal Schon, Nils Norberg, Van Halen, Vogg (Decapitated), Kim Mitchell, etc.
-
Where does Johnny Falcon rank?

Very cool axe man. I've got 6 guitars of various makes and models with newest one being the one in my avatar. There's a few vids if me playing floating around the forum too.
Pagan's Mind is my current fav in the prog genre but I always go back to classic Fates Warning when I get in a prop mindset.

Badass.
I LOVE Pagan's Mind ... and Fates Warning, too, obviously. Been a huge fan of FW since No Exit was a new release. I own all three of the band's DVDs (plus the DVDs that come with the reissues of Awaken the Guardian, No Exit, Perfect Symmetry, and Parallels).
Jim Matheos is awesome. I'll buy anything he appears on. (OSI is quite cool.) Too bad Mark Zonder is no longer in the group (his old band, Warlord, kicks ass).
I assume you know about the new record to feature Jim and John Arch, right (and Joey Vera)?
-
One of my favorite vocalists. And one of the heaviest songs ever made.
Michael Gira

Fav FW album is definitely No Exit. I wish they would go back to this style of playing actually. Ivory Gate of Dreams is classic and probably my all time favorite Fates song. Own the vid's and OSI stuff too.
Yeah, I saw an interview with Jim and Ray talking about the new project with Arch back in the fold. Ray is still in Fates, but who know what'll happen if the stuff with Arch proves to be more successful. Ray has his own side project going with Redemption which is pretty cool as well.
-
Redemption is killer, yeah. I dig the two Engine albums, as well.
My fave FW record is likely Perfect Symmetry, although Disconnected would be up there, definitely. But in my opinion, there isn't a dud in the entire catalogue.

the late 80's - early 90's was a great time for me so listening to Perfect Symmetry and Parallels always brings me back. Both great albums.
I agree on the FW catalogue. As far as I'm concerned, anything Matheos works on is gold, be it with FW or other projects. Big fan of his songwriting/playing. Aresti is a great player too.
-
For those into metal music, imo a really underrated vocalist was the singer from Grim Reaper. Voice pretty similar to Dio.
-
WTF is this shit?!?!

not exactly operation mindcrime :-\

Steve Grimmett! Awesome singer!
Tony Martin does an admirable job filling Ronnie's Shoes in Sabbath too. Killer vocals on this tune. Comments section for the vid talks about how underrated he is, which is very true.

Mindcrime 2 was a disgrace to the original and didn't deserve the moniker.
-
Listen to the clean vocals...beautiful and haunting voice and awesome lyrics...
"Let me be the One, who will rise and return from sleep"
"Give me strength to rise....become one with the remedy"

I saw FW several years ago and it was one of Frank's first shows back with the band. I was jazzed BIG TIME.

The cat can wail, totally.

Operation: Mindcrime is one of my all-time fave records. Its sequel is a joke in comparison. Queensryche is dead to me.

sort of reminds me of Tony Harnell from TNT

I've never seen them live other than on DVD but I'm sure the show was great. Still a bucket list item for me, but I fear time's running out for FW.
sort of reminds me of Tony Harnell from TNT
Harnell is a great singer with and huge range, and yeah, he is another seriously underrated vocalist. Ronnie Le Tekro is/was no slouch in the guitar slinging dept either.
x2

I'm sure you still like good music of which new QR is not. Everyone agrees that Geoff Tate has turned QR into shit. Michael Wilton needs to man up and save that crappy band.

Never heard Tony Martin sing before honestly, but he is also great in this song. Many underrated singers out there in metal.

Chuck Billy - Testament

I'm a great baritone.

Jon Oliva was great too. Dungeons Are Calling was a great album.
-
Mindcrime 2 was a disgrace to the original and didn't deserve the moniker.
i though it was ok; its just that no matter how good it was it would never have been able to live up to the original, thats just how it works. the original OM is my favorite album of all time.
my vote for most underrated vocalist is Jeff Scott Soto. his vocals for yngwie malmsteen were awesome..esp 'as above, so below'
-
Myles Kennedy from AlterBridge. Has amazing vocal range.
-
I thought this thread was about Geddy Lee.
It should be.

My point. He's s a bit of a journeyman singer, but one of the most respected set of pipes for how long, now? When the fark was Free, anyway? ;D
