With the entrance of music video, it became an visual entertainment, instead of something you listen to.

Now we have auto-tune which allows any fucking dipshit to sound like he can sing worth half a swamp rats asshole, and as long as you have image, you get somewhere.

I'm not saying guys like Bachman Turner Overweight ("You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" fame...aka BTO) should ever make it, but based on the image they had and the other acts of the time, they would never get a first glance much less a second glance in today's music world.

Because they can, that's why. Why put the time and effort into voice lessons and years of practicing mastering control of your vocal chords when you can just take the easy lazy way out and let a computer do it for you.

Tons of great vocalists and bands out there these days.The best vocalists are generally found in power metal or progressive metal bands as that type of music lends itself best to a more operatic style of singing.
