Title: Shot a glock for the first time - Gained some wins and some fails
Post by: Stark on August 29, 2011, 03:47:32 AM
Went shooting in Riga yesterday - they have this awesome cold war russian atomic bunker back in the days when russia still occupied Latvia.
In Latvia you always need to know somebody to do stuff lucky me i know somebody who is in the police so he hooked me up - usually stag parties go to shoot there and the police train there as well - I got to shoot all kinda guns for all day but the best was the Glock.

I'm pretty bad ass

And god is the glock nice to shoot.

Doesnt matter its easy shit to kill some AK swinging wog from bongo bongo land who breaks and enters into your apartment and tries to rape your entire family - Awesome defense weapon and fun to shoot.

Didnt like the AK to shoot tho

Was in Riga for a stag a few years ago Stark, and think I shot in that gun range you're talking about.
spooky shit :-)

City is ok, but you need to watch your back at all times.
Fookers are nuts on robbing over there.

30 of us went out as a group and were given a list of all the things to look out for and avoid ie scams, hookers, spiked drinks, gypsies etc.
We all met up for breakfast after the first night and managed to cross of everything on the list :-)
city of fookin' scumbags!

the hotle we were staying at had a resident lapdancer in the bar, so that was a bonus :-)

I have a glock 19 and absolutely love it. It's a compact but still holds 15 rounds. Fits my hand perfect for what they cost they're the best combat handguns. I have put thousands of rounds through it without any failures. I keep 6 mags louded with saber defense hollow points.

I got mine about a year ago. For the first few months I couldn't put it down. I would constantly rack the slide and practice dry fireing. Now before I got to bed I play with it for a little bit. Helps me sleep good at night. I would open a can of whoopass if someone ever broke into my home.

depending on what state you're in... doing so would either result in you geting indicted, or a handshake and pat on the back.  Crazy variance in self-defense laws.

The more conservative the state the better the guns laws. I live in South Carolina thank god. I couldn't imagine living in communist New York again.

I have a G26 and a G17.    End of the world occurs, if I had to have one gun it would be my G26.

My glocks have at least 10,000 of jam free, trouble free, rounds through them.

For $499, they can't be beat.

A glock shotgun and some kind of rifle is a pretty well rounded kit. I need a good rifle I have the other two.

For shotgun - go with Mossberg or Remi 870.   I have 4 shotguns.  A benelli, an 870, a mossberg 500, a Saiga 12.  The Benelli is great, the Saiga is semi but not reliable, and if I had to grab one - it would be the 870 or 500 most likely.

For a rifle go with an AK or AR.  AR is far more accurate, AK has more punch.  AK will run you around $600 now.   A Good AR about $1,000.

Depends what you want.   you should also get a .22 10/22 for sure and trick it out.

dont start that lame ass argument. if you think 9mm is no big deal then stand down range and let me pop you (no homo). the one stop shot thing doesnt apply ever, im not shooting one time.

The best gun advice I can think of for rookies is ...if a lot of people are raving and saying good things about a particular platform whether it's a shotgun, rifle or pistol...LISTEN to them.

There's a reason there are so many glock fan boys, remington 870s, and remington 700 rifles...cuz they're reliable as fuck.

I wasted too much money on buying shitty fucking guns because I figure I'd go against the norm.

Not all guns are created equal...not all of them go "boom" each time you pull the trigger and cheaper ammo is not always the best ammo.

You're still new to all this gun stuff.  I have pics of me with an M16 when I was 6 years old.  dad was a FFL.

IMO, once you do this for a few years you'll move up to 40 or 45.

    >Got some weird look by the trainer when I tried to feed the mag into the gun the wrong way around as in not upside down but the other way.
    >Gained my superhero status back when I shot the target 10 times without missing 7 in the head region from 15m
    >Got some bad ass looks when I yelled "REEEEELOADING!!!!" When I changed mag and double tabbed :D :D

How do you get props for handling a gun like "a pro" if you can't even insert a mag correctly?

Shut the fuck up dude. I can see you now ...that "rambo" asshole at the range that shoots once a year and thinks they're on their way to become a navy seal.

Also, I"m willing to bet the guy who gave you the "mad props" didn't know what the fuck he was doing either. You can spot a rookie with a gun from miles away.

x2

i hate people who stress over one caliber or another when it comes to handguns

1. you're never gonna use them in a life threatening situation.
2. IF you have to shoot some burglar, It won't matter whether it's 9mm .45 .38 .357 as long as you can hit what you're aiming at

Shot gun is actually best for home defense as far as hitting your target and safety. Meaning the bullets are not likely to go to your neighbors house.

Seriously is there ever a time where you feel the need to shit out of your brain and type your stupid opinion about stuff you have no idea about?

When someone is carrying a gun in a holster, car...etc...pistol is the best choice.

Shotgun is the better choice in a home because the lead won't go through walls and possibly hit someone that's in the next room, your neighbor ...etc.

Fuck that son, keep a round chambered...don't give them a chance to do damage because you still have to rack the shotgun. Even though yeah...that unmistakable sound of someone racking a shotgun...anyone with half a brain will hit the deck or start running away unless they're there to hurt you.

BTW my 870 I picked up $330 out the door, brand new.

My latest purchase Sig P250 .45.... = niiiiiiice

the handgun is just your temporary means toward getting to your long gun.  Rifle or shotgun.

the 9mm is fine if its you and the bad guy 10 feet from each other standing hollywood style.

If you need to put rounds thru things, hit multiple guys, and you need a leg or gut shot to take them down... then I'll take a 40 or 45 over a 9 mm any day.  You may only get to wing him if you're falling over a table to prevent him from shooting you - having that ideal shot at head and upper chest isn't always there.

My little bro is an excellent shot.  He had two armed bad guys come into his pharmacy - two had guyns drawn, less than 10 feet away.  He had to sacrifice accuracy - He was sprinting backwards over junk, watching 2 guys at once.  In a standing match, he would have killed both (with his glock 45) easily with headshots.  he ended up hitting one in the gut and the other chose to exit.  Shit is crazy in real shooting.  big calibers rock.
Title: Re: Shot a glock for the first time - Gained some wins and some fails
Post by: pluck on August 30, 2011, 11:14:43 AM
Yep, just go plinking and see the difference what a 9mm vs 40 vs 45 round does to a watermelon or jug of water.

9mm will go through your target without too much of an exit wound ...where as a 40 & 45 caliber round will destroy shit.

Rule of thumb is that 9mm will go through your target where as a 40 and up caliber is a "man stopper".

You never want to give a perp a second chance to react, the goal is in the eyes of the law to "stop" a perp.

Don't get me wrong, you can kill a guy with a .22 and a 9mm but in my eyes the argument lies in getting the job done quickly and right because in a high stress situation you might only get once chance to get a decent shot off. It is very rare that you're going to get a shot off like at the range in a controlled environment at a stationary paper target.

its the lack of a real safety that i dislike. holster, shirt, or anything else gets in the trigger housing you just became cheddar bob. that being say, my fav handgun is a M&P 9mm. but, i carry a sub-compact XD with 9mm hollows.

The reason a like the Glock so much is exactly because there is no external safety , like I said it's a matter of preference and what you feel most comfortable with.
