Gotta be Nasser since even some of the biggest Dorian fanboys admit Nasser pretty much deserved it in 1997.

Flex was considered the heir apparent , Nassar was never really a thought or notion....

I'd have to say the 98 AC or 99 Olympia version of Flex would be hard to beat by any version of Nasser. So Flex, IMO.

Nasser was more closer. Flex always had bad luck to compete against legendary shapes of Dorian&Ronnie(1993, 1998, 1999) when he was second.
Nasser almost caught Dorian in 1997 when Doz's injuries piled up.

You bring up some great points , his back was a severe liability his fans underestimate this often , it was lacking in proportionate thickness for a bodybuilder 280lbs it lacked depth , detail and width of and density , he looked outstanding from the front and looked like complete shit from the back , he looked like two completely different bodybuilders.
Mind you Ronnie is 247lbs and Flex even lighter probably 230lbs and yet look like they outweigh Nasser by much more , Nasser is the heaviest by far , like I said one bodybuilder from the front and another from the back.

Had Flex been in condition in 98, he might have won...Ronnie came in condition, Flex didn't, and Flex couldn't count on his "shape" to save hm this time.
Flex knew Ronnie was capable of beating him, it happened in 96, so Flex thinking he could waltz in and just take it, was a stupid notion.
On prophetic cartoon appeared in M&F that yr, it had Flex, Shawn, Ronnie, I believe Kevin and Nasser all fighting for the
Mr. O (really grabbig for it), and how did the placings turn out?
If anything, Flex had more #2s than Nasser did, and according to the Musclemag rankings at the time, he was ranked higher.
Also, Nasser was dominant during the Dorian era, not so with the Ronnie era, although capturing the AC in 99. had Flex not gotten sick, he'd last as long as Ronnie and still be #2, as Cutler didn't have Flex's shape nor back.
The objective and subjective answer to the OP's question would be Flex.

Look at the Olympia where Ronnie won his first Sandow... everyone have said Flex should have won. It must have been sooooooooo close.
I like Big Ron and he is the greatest of all times but damn, Flex looked better at that show.

To be honest, Nasser in the 90s, from 95-97 faired better than Flex did, when it came to the Mr. O.

in the pics you posted you can clearly see two points i mentioned
- nassers biceps (already torn) and shoulders were oil filled to the 10th degree -> looked really bad
- his back screams fat from within leading to palumboism and tried to fix with a gallon of esiclene
its a shame that his back looked 10times better in 1994 before he gained 30lbs on severe insulin abuse while loosing his musclequality due to the fat pushing within the muscle

in reality flex came closer as far as a score is concerned,at the 98 olympia ronnie only beat flex by one point.flex was ahead of ronnie at one point in this contest,it took the judges awhile to realize what kinda shape ronnie was in.

Nasser received a lot of gift placings. He was easy to pick apart, especially from the back. In a competitive era like the mid '90's, Nasser had no business beating Flex, Shawn, Ronnie, Kevin, Francois, etc.

One time i was throwing Nasser out of a window and a piece of glass caught his rear delt, and this weird gooey shit started spurting out......it was GROSS. :P
So from then on i would use his head to knock out the loose glass first :D

yes but what Olympia edition Flex deserved to win? We all agree 97 was Nassers. So I would say Nasser got closer to the Sandow than Flex ever did.

It was only controversial to Nasser fans because they thought he was close , reality dictated otherwise , people bitch about Dorian's triceps and torn biceps but are perfectly willing to overlook Nasser's entire missing back , lets not be hypocrites
I will concede Nasser did look better than Dorian in the standing relaxed from the front , front double biceps shot and maybe the ab-thigh but that's it

Nasser could have been awarded the 0 in 98 also, especially with ROnnie's HUGE gyno and lack of calves. Flex in 98 was overrated.

Ronnie had gyno on one pec, but he far outdistanced and out conditioned Nasser...Nasser couldn't compete with Ronnie or Flex from the front or back in 98
