Title: is the persuit of strength better for mental health than the ideal physique?
Post by: purenaturalstrength on September 16, 2011, 12:24:15 AM
hey friends, i know i piss u off with my threads but serious question....

since bodybuilding is a mental illness

what about powerlifting?

aim for strength and enjoy the side effect of a better physique (if you don't get too fat that is)?

stay natural, what goals to set?

currently 3x120kg bench with pauses at chest
5x160kg high bar full squat
3x200kg deadlift

weight 85kg height 182-183cm

my coach said he could bench 150kg with pause naturally and he has very long arms, but took him like 12years

he could deadlift a 195kg barbell with 1 hand, tear phone books, bend metal, blow up water bags

is this a more sane hobby than obsessing over appearance which is 45% genetics 45%drugs 5%nutrition 5%training?

powerlifting is just as foolish in the upper group. You have obese men many of who are not as strong as some probodybuilders putting on high tec suits and breaking records. You hear guys saying the squat 890  come to find out that can only squat 500raw which is great but common place in a prison yard not a world record

Both strength and looks are of equal importance to me, almost more so strength. Bodybuilders who focus only on looks are sort of phony baloni.
