Well....where are all the nay-sayers now???.....Obama said he would depose Ghadafi and he has......he said he would liberate Libya and thats been done.....he was criticized about leading from behind but he accomplished his mission without ONE American casualty....INCREDIBLE
John McCain commenting on CNN just now: "the administration deserves a lot of credit and the world is a better place without Ghadafi"
Obama is an amazing president.....One of the best commander-in-chiefs we have had since WWII.....
3333....another ass kicking for you......how long is this going to continue???...these ass-kicking threads are exposing all your bullshit talk

Obama most likely would have made a fine military officer as he understands how to delegate power and to whom.

clinton fumbled lots of military actions and ATF clusterfcks, while banging fat interns.
obama, on the other hand, does seem to have his shit together - on the battlefield as well as the family front.
i wonder if all those repubs on FX news screaming about this libyan invasion will suddenly be like "WE got him!" about kadaffi.

BIG DEAL!!! He whacked Bin Laden; less than six months later, his approval ratings are in the 30s and he's losing to Herman Cain in the polls.
The number one issue is THE ECONOMY, not Qaadafi; Obama SUCKS on that issue, period. At best, he'll get about a 5-point bump in the polls that will be gone within a month.
You were yapping about what Obama did in Egypt with Mubarak. Now, just as several conservative heads predicted, Egypt is a major mess, with the Muslim Brotherhood (a threat, far, FAR WORSE) running the show there. And the same will likely happen in Libya. Once it does, Obama will run as far away from taking credit for Libya, as he did with Egypt once things spiraled downward there.
-
he did what your man bush couldn't do for 8 years :D

::) Pot meet kettle.
The US has no business getting involved.
billion spent on an illegal war in libya.
And I stand by my original position - stated before Rush and Hannity gave yall an opinion to parrot - I'm 100% against US involvement in libya. Obama should have let kadaffi kill 10,000 people, and it'd be over now.
-
Yep. The economy is still in shambles and that is what matters to Main St. and the ever growing welfare classes.
I'm glad Ghadaffi is dead (I will eat a bit of humble pie on that Andresiman) but I'm very concerned about who will fill the power vacuum and who will be supporting those that fill the power vacuum.
I also still can't wrap my head around why Obama didn't pour resources into strengthening those mass protests in Iran 2 or so years ago instead of sitting by, doing nothing and letting them get slaughtered on national TV.

Yet, his approval rating is in the toilet.
39% (Gallup).
Plus, notice that Obama kept stating that it was NATO that led the operation. Rough translation: Obama only wants to take credit if it goes well. If it ends up a disaster (ala Egypt), he'll distance himself from Libya as far as his feet will carry him.

well first of all.....yes the economy sucks and I believe Obama has to take full credit for that.....but we are not talking about that here....we are talking about Obama's victory in terms of Ghadafi and Libya......just comment on that......EPIC CHANGING THE SUBJECT BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT TO GIVE OBAMA HIS DUE.....as for Egypt, democracy is always messy at first.....they are going down a road they have never been on..Egypt has never been a democracy in their entire history since the Pharoahs...give them time

admitting you were wrong about Libya is mighty big of you.....you are more humble than a lot of guys on here who continue to stand on ceremony with no foundation to their arguments...you are right that the economy is in shambles....Obama has to take the blame on this........no getting around it...but he is trying to pass the job act and the Republicans won't work with him on this...
Yes you're right again about the power vacuum thing.....worrisome true.....but the Ghadafi regime came to its natural end.....and at least democracy has a chance now to flourish if they truly want it to

I will admit that Obama's propensity for death and destruction of turds is a very welcome surprise. I do find it ironic that one of his platforms for 08 was the end to the war in Iraq. Technically he didn't lie, but he sure has no problem getting involved in many other conflicts. And what is most shocking......the same libtards who were so down on Bush for Iraq either have nothing to say on the matter, or want praise for Obama..... ::)

Egypt is NOT a disaster and again give Obama credit for getting our allies to fight for a change instead of letting them hide behind our skirt while we do all the work, lose all the lives, and spend all the treasure...Obama let Britain and France do the heavy lifting but they could not have won if we didn't support them with our military...so stop trying to take credit away from Obama...you're embarrassing yourself
who cares about approval polls...Obama did the right thing and came out victorious...keep eating sour grapes

you're comparing two totally different wars...Obama did not put boots on the ground , did not spend a lot of money, and won quickly with the objective fully achieved.....with not ONE loss of American life....
Iraq was very costly (2 trillion dollars)....very deadly (over 4000 american lives lost)..and the objective took a very long time to achieve...(finding Saddham and then getting a functioning democracy going)..not criticizing Bush..I supported him and the Iraq war.....but Bush started that war.....Obama was sucked into Libya due to necessity because Ghadafi proclaimed he was going to slaughter the entire country if he had to in order to stay in power
Sorry for killing your theory

You didn't kill any "theory" it's a fact. Many Obama supporters would point to him ending the war, getting out of Iraq, staying out of other countries business (especially in the middle-east)as the one of the reasons they supported him. He hasn't backed out of the middle-east at all. And with a cost of $600 million (lets see if that is ever paid back, as it should be) I wouldn't say that isn't a lot of money. And I am certainly not knocking him not putting troops in harms way, I commend him for that. And we weren't "sucked into" Libya. There are many atrocities commited throughout the world, yet we have no interest in helping. Why? Oil. I don't have a problem with that, but the whole attitude of smashing Bush for being in Iraq "for oil" but now giving Obama a free pass is hypocritical. I'm not sure I'm a fan of what is going to happen with the Muslim brotherhood takes contol of Libya, just like Egypt, but for now, once less pile of shit is walking the earth and at least there is a chance things could improve for the people in Libya.

hahaha drunk guy in front of concrete wall thinks wwe macho man is more important than ghadafi, and you put this retard on here :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D,better get outside and get some freash air :D :D

Pesky little facts like this one keeps getting ignored by the Obama nut hugger on this board.
But, hey. Lets give credit to Barry for something NATO accomplished. It was a NATO airstrike that pinned Ghadafi to where he was found. And since Obama keeps mentioning NATO and giving them credit as being on the forefront of this conflict, then NATO should be receiving all the credit.
Good job, NATO. You finally did something right.
-
i concede all the points made dissing obama. clearly illegal war. presidents dont care about the law, didnt you notice?
however, now that he got the results - you gotta give him props to go with that hate.

If Obama plunged in the polls after Bin Laden got whacked, what makes you think the American people, two weeks from now, will give a flying fig about Qaadafi?
In fact, weren't there a handful of libs who thought Obama would cruise to re-election after "Obama got Osama"? Now, at least 53% of Americans polled don't think he deserved to be re-elected.
Obama is hiding behind the NATO tag for one reason: So he (and folks like you) can boast about how great they are about what they did, when it looks good. Yet, they can run, hide and say "NATO DID IT!!", when Libya becomes a stir-fried mess just like Egypt.
-
Obama?? It would have never happen if he had his way in the beginning. He wanted to repeal the Bush policies, so I guess kudos to him for listening to his advisors and NOT repealing them. I guess!
-
Democracy= Strapping a mortally wounded man to the hood of a car and driving around with him through the desert like a trophy while onlookers take pictures
As I said when this started, Osama get no credit for taking out a dictator who was of absolutely no threat to our interests, was working with the CIA and whose death brings absolutely no tangible benefit.
However, I will be the first to say I told you so when these Jeffersonian Democratic freedom fighters ( Mostly lawless tribal nomads and Al Queda Off shoots) receive our aid and military training + promptly attack us.
The double standard here is so obvious its pathetic. The MSM doesn't even attempt to blanket its blatant and slobbering partisanship regarding Libya.
Maybe next Barry can take out a warlord in Antarctica who is committing genocide against seals. ::)
However, he better get permission from the UN, the penguin counsel of the Galapagos and a willing coalition of Algae beforehand.

Another thing I think this whole thing shows us is that foriegn policy doesn't really change much based on who is in the WH.
Obama is really doing well with his peace prize eh?
PS Saddam wasn't a threat either.

Hate to tell you this but it was a US Predator drone and a French fighter jet strike that pinned Ghadafi down and allowed him to be caught.... >:( >:( :)

Hey retard. USA did not lead in this conflict. Obama clearly stated that European countries were in the forefront of THIS ENDEAVOR. Who founded NATO has no bearing at all. USA was not spearheading this campaign. OBAMA SAID SO. You know, the same idiot you voted for. He gave all the credit to NATO. So therefore they get the credit, not himself.
For someone that hangs on every word from the president, you seem to not have a clue.

Again. Who did Obama give credit to and from what position did he say that the US was "leading" this campaign? Hint: How can you lead when you don't have boots on the ground?
If Obama himself doesn't want the credit because he didn't know what the result would be of such conflict (days, not months), then why would you exalt him for its success?
-

True. Bush was a blood thirsty, warmonger whose only motivation for putting troops in Iraq was the increased profits of gas companies.
But, somehow, Obama's motivations are pristine and pure, and he is such a great peaceful loving leader. He never continued any of the wars or took part in any other conflicts. No, sir.

-

come on coach...listening to advisors is what the president is supposed to do...he gets in a room with a bunch of people and some say blue and others say red and the president decides.....you know thats how it goes....the prez said yes and now he has a victory and a policy success on his hands..just give him his due and move on...

Obama should be praised that he is willing to do what it takes to make sure the interests of United States are met.....damn the Nobel Peace Prize or not......and Obama told the Nobel committee..."sometimes in order to have peace you have to make war"....so he told them his philosophy from the get-go
-
Watch the video of Gaddafi's capture. It's clear as day that it was Islamists who captured. Not really surprising, though, given that they're running the show in Libya.
Hooray for Sharia Law democracy! ::)
-
Again.
Why are liberals willing to heap praise on Obama but chastised Bush when he took out Hussein?
The reason for their criticism was this: How does Hussein affect the USA? His death accomplishes nothing! Therefore, Bush doesn't deserve any credit.
How come that standard has all of the sudden changed for Obama?
-
Apples and bowling balls Oz. Completely different situation+ not to mention the fact that AFTER Iraq this "disjointed, multifaceted, super cooperative, very positive" military action took place.

goddamn it..you are such an asshole fag fuck .....Obama gave NATO all the credit for POLITICAL COVER.....it looks better for history and for world opinion that the US did not strike out on their own in bringing down Ghadafi....he let France and Britain lead so that the U.S. would not take the brunt of criticism from the Arab world for bringing down one of their own..not to mention we were already bogged down in Afghanistan and Iraq and didn't want to overextend.....
Do you actually in your wildest dreams believe that France and Britain could have beaten Ghadafi BY THEMSELVES????..the U.S provided vital military assistance in terms of many cruise misslies launched, initial aerial support and continuing logistics and intelligence support...which NATO DOES NOT POSSESS without the United States.....Further, as Vince pointed out the U.S. Drone is what found Ghadafi and initiated the fatal strike along with a French plane.....
Those are the facts......if you can't handle the truth then leave the thread and go post in the sex talk thread...I'm sure you can find a home on one of Bay's fag threads

you make a valid point here about the far left Libs, but also Bush hurt himself drastically by going through the whole weapons of mass destruction thing.....I believe Bush's intentions were well-meaning but he was lied to by some of his advisors who did not serve him well.....
which is why Colin Powell quit

So because Assad hasn't said he'll kill everyone but in the mean time has killed 3,000+ people then there's no reason to step in?
What a stupid justification. It's not our job to fight civil wars. Central African countries have been killing each other for years. How come no one steps in there? Oh wait, the Anointed One just interjected us into a stupid war against the LRA. ::)

Since when has Obama cared about laws? Obama put us into the Libyan War without congressional authorization but he won't put us into war against Syria because of the UN? Good to know his priorities lie with an organization that seeks to destroy any sovereignty we have left. ::)

a lot of presidents don't seek authorization.....would you???.....Obama gambled that the war would be relatively short and he was right.....give him credit for making the right call.....presidents often make the calculation that if the intervention is going to be short-lived they can get away with not asking congress for approval..they often don't have a grasp of the facts like the president does

Ahh yes, the straw man justification: a lot of presidents did it so Obama can, too. I'd love to see these other presidents. Even Bush had congressional authorization.
7 months isn't a short-lived intervention regardless of however many claims of "days, not weeks" are made.
Love these warmongering leftists. All anti-war when it's not their guy acting the imperialist but it's full steam ahead when someone they support gets in there.
Obama put us into an illegal war to secure oil for Europe. Stop acting like anyone actually cares about the civilians.

Is that why oil is already back up over $106 after pricing in Libya's refineries coming back online? ::)

The left loves war, when its their guy doing it. Hillary has blood lust in her eyes and statements, yet where is cindy Sheehan, moveon, ANSWER, etc?
-
Andre, unlike the other delusional left wing shit- for- brains who infect this board, I actually think you're a decent human being.
So, it is with a heavy heart that I must compel you to take a deep breath, step away from the computer and have a coca cola or something.
The fact of the matter is that you love Obama and will support him no matter how poorly conceived and disastrous his policies are. You will vote for him again in 2012 and if possible, you will commit voter fraud and vote for him 11 times no matter how often he has blatantly contradicted himself since taking office. We get it.
That's ok. While it is somewhat abnormal and troubling for an adult male to have such an unhealthy obsession with another man, I would say 20% of the country is as brainwashed as you are when it comes to Obama. Idols can go a long way in this world. Look at how many records the Beatles are still selling today.
However, I have to take you to task on something that you do on this board almost every day which makes you look like an uneducated, unintelligent, stereotypical urban studies major with a brain the size of a walnut: Performing mental gymnastics to justify, rationalize and celebrate the overwhelming number of failures, inconsistencies and acts of malfeasance committed by the Obama administration as American success. You sound like a disingenuous, dishonest moron who gets his worldview from a children's pop up book and still believes in Santa Claus.
Just be honest dude. You support Obama through thick and thin. Loyalty is an admirable trait to possess. Maybe you can join his re-election effort by sending daily reports to David Axelrod on who is making fun of Obama and his hairy wife on getbig.com.

Is that why oil is already back up over $106 after pricing in Libya's refineries coming back online? ::)
oil is always going to be high...whaddaya gonna do???...oh wait..i guess you're trying to say thats Obama's fault too???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Look at how many records the Beatles are still selling today.

good post.....and I understand why you might feel that I am hyper-partisan but I assure you I am not....I do support Obama..I make no bones about that....I supported Bush to the very end as well....I like to support my president no matter who is in charge.....I've always been this way..i see no apparent good in constantly tearing down our president and blaming him for everything.....
saying that I would vote for him 11 times is funny.....that made me laugh.....I don't see where he has contradicted himself more than any other president....events happen which the president has to respond to.....sometimes it goes against what he himself believes in....I don't think any one thought Obama would be as militaristic as he has been.....I don't have an obsession with him,.,..if anything you should direct that comment to 3333.....he lives and breathes Obama.....
as for the Beatles..i love them..they are the greatest band ever....their current record sales prove that...my support for Obama may seem to be overboard to some, but its in reaction to the overboard negative rhetoric that I see here day in and day out that portrays him unfairly....I have been down on Obama for some things as well..I have stated he must take blame for the economy
if anything Obama has really made attempts to achieve his agenda and his campaign promises..you can't take him to task for that....he is doing what he said he would do
-
Obama most likely would have made a fine military officer puppet as he his handlers understand how to delegate power and to whom.

The Nubian Aquifer is the only fresh water source that remains in North Africa & thus is the focus of what has become known as “Water Wars.”

Having a background in sociology, philosophy, and economics, I'm going to try to give this blog a pretty broad scope. Going from finance and economics, to geopolitics and world news, to the occasional academic or theoretical post. I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and live in New York, so we'll try to add that into it as well. Even though I like Adam Smith, don't be surprised if a little Marx makes its way in there as well.

As civil war roars on in Libya and Colonel Muammar Gadhafi vows to remain in power, reports surfaced that the Northern African country entrusted $1.3 billion through its sovereign wealth fund to Goldman Sachs in 2007, of which the investment bank lost approximately 98%, sparking the ire of Libyan officials. The fascinating drama includes Goldman offering Libya preferred equity and debt which could’ve made it one of the investment bank’s largest shareholders during the onset of the crisis, as well as intimidation and violent threats by Libyan officials.
Libya’s sovereign wealth fund, the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA), was among many funds set up by emerging economies to grow their export-based riches. When the U.S. government lifted sanctions in 2004 prohibiting American firms from doing business with and investing in Libya, Western financial institutions flocked to the oil-rich nation, according to a recent investigation by the Wall Street Journal.
The LIA, headed by chief investment officer Hatem el-Gheriani and Chairman Mustafa Zarti approached 25 different financial institutions around June 2007, when the LIA was launched with approximately $40 billion in assets. Despite forging its strongest relationships with Goldman Sachs, the LWI also invested with Societe Generale, HSBC, JP Morgan, Carlyle Group, Lehman Brothers, and Och-Ziff Capital Management Group.
Recent information, derived from “interviews with close to a dozen people who were involved in the matter, and on Libyan Investment Authority and Goldman documents,” show that Goldman essentially lost all of Libya’s $1.3 billion investment in option contracts on a basket of currencies and six stocks. (Read Amidst Rumors That Gadhafi’s Been Shot, Swiss And Brits Freeze His Assets).
Goldman executives including Youssef Kabbaj, executive in charge of North Africa, and Driss Ben-Brahim, an Arabic-speaking emerging-markets trading chief, met with Zarti and Gheriani in London and in Libya’s capital, Tripoli. After an initial investment of $350 million in two of Goldman’s most exclusive funds, the Libyans were ready for more.
Between January and June 2008, Goldman execs set up a $1.3 billion investment in option contracts on Citigroup, Italy’s UniCredit, Spain’s Banco Santander, German insurer Allianz, French energy company Electricite de France, Italian energy company Eni. The investment, which also included a basket of currencies, worked on the thesis that the stocks would rise in value.

Muammar Gaddafi's grisly death raises questions the length of Libya's revolutionary road
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/libya/8843700/Muammar-Gaddafis-grisly-death-raises-questions-the-length-of-Libyas-revolutionary-road.html
The manner of Gaddafi's killing raises questions for the militias that make up the new Libya, writes Andrew Gilligan in Sirte.
The highway from Benghazi to Sirte was the Libyan revolution's battleground and success gauge: the road it drove up, retreated down, drove up again, then got stuck on for months; the road, this Thursday, on which it trapped and killed Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.
All along the revolutionary road, less than 48 hours after that final triumph, we found something unexpected: a smidgeon of sympathy for the dead dictator.
In Benghazi, on the main square where it all started, they were slaughtering camels in celebration. There they sat, eight of them, feet tied so they could not move, quivering with fear as they were beheaded one by one. As soldiers fired rifles in the air, members of the cheering crowd held up the severed heads as trophies. They daubed their hands in the camel-blood, and gave the V-for-victory sign with dripping fingers.
But away from the square, the birthplace of the revolution was not in party mood. The streets were fairly quiet. And in the cafes, people were watching TV pictures – more graphic than any shown in Britain – of a bloodied Gaddafi dragged along and beaten, feebly protesting, before a gun was put to his head.
The picture then cut to the dead ex-leader being rolled onto the pavement, blood pooling from the back of his skull.

"He deserves to die, but not in this sort of way," said Mohammed Hamed, one of those who saw the images. "It's haram [forbidden in Islam] the way they treated him.
"He was a prisoner and should have been treated as a prisoner."
By last week, the empire of the self-proclaimed "emperor of Africa" had shrunk to the size of a drainpipe. His army had shrivelled to a handful of cars.
But the one thing Gaddafi retained to the very end was his ability to put on a show. Other Arab dictators – Tunisia's Zine el Abidine ben Ali, Egypt's Hosni Mubarak - slipped away into the night. Gaddafi's demise was as box-office as his 42-year rule.
Fascinatingly, some of the most gruesome images were apparently distributed by Al-Rai, the regime mouthpiece TV channel that aired the colonel's messages of defiance after losing power in August.
In the last one, only two weeks ago, he urged his followers to "rise up, raise our green flags to the skies and go and march in your millions in all the squares."
That, we can safely predict, will not be happening. Past us on the road to Sirte streamed thousands of revolutionary soldiers in the opposite direction, jubilantly returning from the front line to their homes for Sunday's planned day of national celebration. Even the field hospitals were pulling out. That war is definitely over.
But Gaddafi was not, as a government minister claimed only three weeks ago, hiding on the Algerian border. He did not take a four-by-four through the irrigation tunnels of his Great Man-Made River to some luxurious desert lair. Maybe such Hollywood stuff never happens in real life – Saddam and bin Laden died in humble circumstances too.
Maybe Gaddafi was only in Sirte because he had nowhere else to go.
But the fact is that he was found at the scene of the revolution's last battle, a fight which turned out to be among the war's most savage.
Before it was known he was in Sirte, the commander of the Nato air campaign, Lt-Gen Ralph Jodice, spoke of his "surprise" at the "tenacity" of the pro-Gaddafi forces holding the city, saying: "It's quite interesting how resilient and fierce they've been." Yesterday, the fact that he kept his promise to go down in – or at least near - the fighting was earning him a certain amount of respect.
"He had his gun with him. He was involved in the fighting," said Mohammed al-Nour, from the city of Ajdabiya. "I hated him but he did not run away."
Whatever al-Rai and the last loyalist handful may want, of course, the colonel will not be remembered as a martyr. He was despised by Libyans, who are overwhelmingly pleased to see him dead.
"We could not even say his name without fear," said Ali Barzani, a car dealer. "Now we are watching his body on television. This is a great day."
But Gaddafi's death is already showing up some of the weaknesses of Libya's new rulers.
The claim by the interim prime minister, Mahmoud Jibril, that he was killed in "crossfire" looks ever more false with every new piece of video.
Both he and his son Mutassim were alive when captured, and dead soon after. A statement by an anonymous NTC source that "they beat [Gaddafi] and they killed him" seems closer to the mark.
But Mr Jibril angrily rejected demands by the United Nations and some in the West for a proper investigation into the circumstances of Gaddafi's death.
"People in the West don't understand the agony and pain that the people went through during the past 42 years," he said.
The dictator's treatment – before and after death - underlines that Libya does not have a government, or a state with functioning standards, only a collection of militias.
After he was killed, his body was taken by the Misurata militia and put on display in a shopping centre, where yesterday the corpses of his slain son Mutassim and Gaddafi's army chief, Abu Bakr, were placed alongside.
Libyans from hundreds of miles away came to queue up and, some wearing gloves and masks, view the three bodies.
But the National Transitional Council, the supposed ruling body, was yesterday having a very hard time getting its hands on Gaddafi's corpse, or agreeing with the Misuratans how it should be buried.
On Saturday there were reports that it would be passed to the Gaddafi family.
What this meant was not entirely clear, since all of his immediate relatives are either dead, in exile or - in the case of his son Saif - still on the run. The apparent announcement came as Al-Rai TV said relatives wanted the body handed over.
"We call on the UN, the Organisation of the Islamic Conference and Amnesty International to force the NTC to hand over the martyrs' bodies to our tribe," the station proclaimed on the family's behalf.
Most of the militias are based on a particular town, financed and commanded largely autonomously. Gaddafi's death means that the main thing which united them – the war against him – is over. Now, the many rivalries and disputes between them, and between them and the NTC, may come to the fore.
Those involving Misurata will be particularly fierce.
This port city, the country's third largest, became the hero of the revolution when it withstood an horrendous three-month siege from Gaddafi forces. In the battle for Tripoli, it was Misuratans who largely conquered Gaddafi's Bab al-Aziziyah compound.
Understandably, they have a very high opinion of themselves. "[The revolution] was teamwork," says Suleiman Fortia, a spokesman for the Misurata Brigade. "But we deserve the cup."
The Misuratans have almost established their own independent enclave, a kind of inverse Sirte: no Libyan from outside the city may enter it without a permit.
And the "cup" they want for their revolutionary endeavours is none other than the prime ministership of Libya for their commander, Rahman Swelhi. "Towns that suffered should have a greater voice," says Mr Fortia.
As for Mr Jibril, "We will never accept him. He should do the honourable thing and just vanish." Mr Jibril replies that the Misuratans do not seem to understand democracy.
"Fighting and strength is not a measure for representation in government," he has said. "Representation is a right guaranteed to all of us."
But the NTC is indeed going to vanish: Mr Jibril, along with the rest of the council, have already said they will serve only until elections in eight months' time, and he repeated that yesterday. Eight months is quite enough time for political disputes to fester and harden into something more serious.
Other places, too, are fighting for their share. Zintan, a town of just 70,000 in the Nafusa mountains that played an important part in the liberation of Tripoli, wants two cabinet posts, including the ministry of public works, coveted for its bribe potential. Benghazi's reluctance to celebrate too hard may reflect increasing anxiety about its own place in the revolution.
"Don't forget we carried the weight of the country at a difficult time," says one of its NTC members. Most of the militias, despite appeals, have refused to leave Tripoli, where each controls its little area of the city.
Abdulhakim Belhaj, the Islamist commander in charge of the capital's security, said only two weeks ago: "The citizens of Tripoli are frightened.
We demand an end to the uncontrolled arms that have started to be clearly seen on the streets." Mr Belhaj himself is involved in a huge area of yet further disagreement: he has attacked attempts by "secular elements" to "isolate and ignore" Libya's Islamists. "Some call for us to be marginalised. We will not allow this," he warns, a little ominously.
The other bad augury from the death of the dictator is that it reminds us the new, free Libya has not entirely thrown off the old Gaddafi nastiness. Much of Sirte, a pro-Gaddafi city of 100,000 people, has been substantially destroyed by revolutionary forces: barely a building in many areas is undamaged.
"The rebels shelled my house," said Mohammed Ferjani, from District 3, a clearly civilian residential area, pointing at a huge hole in the side of it. "On our street, a whole family was killed."
District 3 was relatively lightly attacked. In Districts 1 and 2, their torn-down Gaddafi flags lying in rags on the ground, we drove through a townscape of almost complete destruction, empty of civilians.
Parts of the "Dollar" area – Libyan slang for the posh part of town – looked, quite simply, post-nuclear. By the end, Gaddafi and his entourage must have been some of the last people left in Sirte.
Libya's last retail copies of the Green Book, Gaddafi's incomprehensible tract, were strewn in the road outside the only shop in the country still stocking it. Sewage flooded the streets.
Outside the ruins of his home, a huge bomb crater obliterating most of the road, Ali Mohammed Ali, a mechanic, brewed tea. "Nato said they were protecting civilians, but I'm a civilian and they hit my house," he said. Alone in his area, Mr Ali stayed to protect his property from mass looting.
"There are two kinds of rebels," he said. "The first kind came to fight and the second kind to steal." It is no surprise that Libya cannot throw off viciousness.
Its history of repression goes back far further than Gaddafi.
Along this same road was the Italian concentration camp of Al Aghela, where thousands of Bedouin perished in colonial times, and Soulouk, where the great liberation fighter, Omar al-Mukhtar, was hanged by the Italians before 20,000 of his imprisoned supporters.
But this time, perhaps, Libya has a real chance to escape its history.
Unlike Egypt or Tunisia, where the leader went but the system stayed, Gaddafi's great bequest is that he was the system. Gaddafi's end leaves Libya with a cleaner sheet than any other Arab country. Even the militias are mostly composed of non-professional "citizen soldiers:" they may not want to abandon their families again for internecine fighting.
Along the road to Sirte, the old front line in Brega and Ras Lanuf, household names earlier this year, is now invisible.
This is the centre of Libya's oil industry, whose production is already back up from almost zero to 350,000 barrels a day, expects to reach a million by January and should return to full pre-war levels (1.6 million barrels) during 2012. The politics of free Libya may be difficult, but the economics are much more promising.
At Gaddafi's Tripoli compound of Bab al-Aziziyah, they have started knocking down the huge perimeter walls that kept out the public. And the lawn in front of his house, where he gave his famous speech promising to crush the then-rebel "rats," is now used for a weekly pet market.
On Sunday, in Tunisia, are held the Arab Spring's first free elections.
Next month it is Egypt's turn. And the day after Gaddafi died, President Obama announced the final pullout of the last American troops from Iraq.
Choreographed that may have been, but the sense of an old era ending and a new one beginning is real and unmistakable.

Libya's transitional leader, Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, says Libya will be ruled by Islamic Sharia law!
Libya NTC head Jalil pledges to uphold Islamic law
msnbc.com staff and news service reports
October 23, 2011
Libya's transitional leader has declared liberation of the country, three days after the death of its leader of four decades, Moammar Gadhafi.
Mustafa Abdul-Jalil also told thousands of supporters at a ceremony on Sunday that Islamic Sharia law would be the "basic source" of legislation in the country and that existing laws that contradict the teachings of Islam would be nullified. In an address that set an Islamist tone for post-Gadhafi Libya, he said new banks would be set up to follow the Islamic banking system, which bans charging interest.
"This revolution was looked after by God to achieve victory," he told the crowd.
"All the martyrs, the civilians and the army had waited for this moment. But now they are in the best of places ... eternal heaven," he said, shaking hands with supporters.

Autopsy: Qaddafi was killed by shot to head (Obama and NATO complicit in real war crimes)
cbs ^ | 10/23/2011 | ap
An autopsy confirmed that Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi died from a gunshot to the head, the country's chief pathologist said Sunday, just hours before Libya's new leaders were to declare liberation and a formal end to an eight-month civil war to topple the longtime ruler's regime.
The declaration starts the clock on a transition to democracy that is fraught with uncertainty and could take up to two years.
However, international concern about the circumstances of Qaddafi's death and indecision over what to do with his remains overshadowed what was to be a joyful day. Qaddafi's body has been on public display in a commercial freezer in a shopping center in the port city of Misrata, which suffered from a bloody siege by regime forces during the spring.

I'm not shedding tears, he deserved a trial, then execution if found guilty.
Having been caught alive, unarmed, he deserved to be delivered to the authorities and dealt with accordingly.

Obama/Nato shot and stopped his escape. He was then hiding in a storm drain. Then some local criminals killed him.
Do you have evidence that obama ordered these local criminals to shoot kadaffi?

Libya’s transitional leader declares liberation, sets Islamist tone for future
Washington Post ^ | 10/23/11 | Associated Press
Tripoli, Libya - Libya’s interim rulers declared the country liberated on Sunday after an eight-month civil war, launching the oil-rich nation on what is meant to be a two-year transition to democracy. But they laid out plans with an Islamist tone that could rattle their Western backers.
The joyful ceremony formally marking the end of Moammar Gadhafi’s 42-year tyranny was also clouded by mounting pressure from the leaders of the NATO campaign that helped secure victory to investigate whether Gadhafi, dragged wounded but alive out of a drainage ditch last week, was then executed by his captors.
The circumstances of Gadhafi’s death remain unclear. In any case, critics said the gruesome spectacle of his blood-streaked body laid out as a trophy for a third day of public viewing in a commercial freezer tests the new leadership’s commitment to the rule of law. (Snip)
Gadhafi’s capture and the fall of his hometown of Sirte, the last loyalist stronghold, set the stage for the long-awaited declaration of liberation, delivered by the head of the National Transitional Council, Mustafa Abdul-Jalil.
He did not mention the circumstances surrounding Gadhafi’s death — mobile phone videos showed the wounded leader being taunted and beaten by a mob after his capture. But he urged his people to eschew hatred.
“You should only embrace honesty, patience, and mercy,” Abdul-Jalil told a flag-waving crowd of several thousand at the declaration ceremony in the eastern city of Benghazi, the birthplace of the uprising against Gadhafi.
Abdul-Jalil laid out a vision for a new Libya with an Islamist tint, saying Islamic Sharia law would be the “basic source” of legislation, and that existing laws that contradict the teachings of Islam would be nullified.

Bodies of 53 apparent Gadhafi loyalists found in Libyan hotel (Obama complicit in war crimes)

The bodies of 53 people, believed to be supporters of ousted Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, has been found in a hotel that was under the control of anti-Gadhafi fighters, Human Rights Watch said Monday.
The rights group said it found the bodies clustered together at Hotel Mahari in Sirte on Sunday. About 20 residents were putting the bodies in body bags to prepare them for burial when Human Rights Watch found them.
"We found 53 decomposing bodies, apparently (Gadhafi) supporters, at an abandoned hotel in Sirte, and some had their hands bound behind their backs when they were shot," said Peter Bouckaert, emergencies director of Human Rights Watch.
"This requires the immediate attention of the Libyan authorities to investigate what happened and hold accountable those responsible."
Officials with the National Transitional Council, Libya's new leadership, were not immediately available for comment.
The residents told Human Rights Watch investigators they found the bodies last week after the fighting in Sirte stopped and they returned home.

..Gaddafi still on show, rotting as wrangling goes on
By Rania El Gamal | Reuters –
MISRATA, Libya (Reuters) - Libyans filed past Muammar Gaddafi's decomposing body for a fourth day on Monday, keen to see for themselves that the fallen strongman was dead, while talks dragged on among emerging local factions over disposing of the corpse.
Fighters guarding the darkening body and those of Gaddafi's son Mo'tassim and his former army chief had placed plastic sheeting under them as fluids leaked into the market cold store in Misrata, where they had been taken after their capture and killing in Gaddafi's home town of Sirte on Thursday.
With the door constantly opening to allow a procession of onlookers, in a grim parody of the lying in state typically accorded to deceased leaders, the refrigeration unit was failing to prevent a rapid decomposition and guards handed out surgical face masks to visitors to shield them from the stench.
Gaddafi and his son died after being captured, wounded but alive -- some of their final moments captured on video.
But few Libyans are troubled about either how they were killed or why they are being kept exposed to public view for so long. Islamic tradition dictates burial within a day.
"God made the pharaoh as an example to the others," said Salem Shaka, visiting the bodies on Monday. "If he had been a good man, we would have buried him.
"But he chose this destiny for himself."
Another man, who said he had driven 400 km (250 miles) to see the bodies, said: "I came here to make sure with my own eyes ... All Libyans must see him."
The killing of fallen autocrats is far from a novelty -- in Europe in living memory, similar fates befell Nicolae Ceausescu in Romania in 1989 and Benito Mussolini, who had created modern Libya as an Italian colony a decade before he died in 1945.
However, some of the anti-Gaddafi rebels' foreign allies have expressed disquiet about the treatment of Gaddafi both after his capture and after his death and worry that Libya's new leaders will not uphold their promise to respect human rights.
The burials have been held up by wrangling between the emerging factions within the National Transitional Council over where they should be interred. NTC leaders want Gaddafi buried at a secret location so the place does not become a shrine.
Gaddafi's tribe centered around the city of Sirte where he made his last stand has asked for the body so they can bury it there. Gaddafi requested to be buried in Sirte in his will.
"There are different views," said an NTC official in Misrata. "Some people want them buried in the invaders' cemetery in Misrata," he said, referring to a place outside the city near the sea where hundreds of fallen Gaddafi fighters have been buried with some dignity and respect.
"Some people want to hand them over to his tribe, but we have some demands. Many people have been kidnapped and killed by people in Sirte since the 1980s. We asked them to give those bodies back. Since then they have been quiet," said the official who asked not to be named.

Early sign in Tunisia of strong Islamist vote
Yahoo/AP ^ | 10/24/11 | PAUL SCHEMM
TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) — Tunisian authorities counted votes Monday in carefully watched elections, with early signs that a once-banned Islamist party is leading in many constituencies in the country that unleashed uprisings across the Arab world.
Tunisia was known for decades for its repressive leadership but also for its progressive legislation on women and families, which secular-leaning Tunisians fear the moderate Islamist party Ennahda would roll back if it takes a commanding number of seats in the new assembly being created by Sunday's elections.
Ennahda believes that Islam should be the reference point for the country's system and laws but maintains that it will respect women's rights and is committed to democracy and working with other parties.
"During the campaign the Islamist party was quite disciplined in saying they will protect human rights, they will protect the rights of women and maintain equality, but in fact this is an open question," said Ricky Goldstein who observed the elections for the New York-based Human Rights Watch. "Their discourse in some areas was vague and ambiguous."

Obama’s Libyan Disaster

Anyone who believes that NATO’s overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi is a “success” for President Obama’s foreign policy should listen to the speech of Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, the chairman of the National Transitional Council, at the “liberation day” celebrations in Benghazi: “We are an Islamic country,” the de facto president of Libya proclaimed to the crowds shouting “Allahu Akbar.” “We take the Islamic religion as the core of our new government. The constitution will be based on our Islamic religion.”

Fuel depot blast 'kills 100' in Libya's Sirte
AFP via Yahoo ^ | October 25th 2011 | AFP Staff

A fuel tank exploded in Moamer Kadhafi's hometown Sirte killing more than 100 people less than a week after the deposed despot was captured and killed there, a military commander said on Tuesday.
"There was an enormous explosion and a huge fire. More than 100 people were killed and 50 others wounded" in Monday night's blast, National Transitional Council commander Leith Mohammed told AFP.
He said the scene was "a heart wrenching spectacle with dozens of charred bodies."
The explosion happened as a crowd of people waited near the fuel tank to fill up their cars.

In Libya, Massacre Site Is Cleaned Up, Not Investigated
By KAREEM FAHIM and ADAM NOSSITER
Published: October 24, 2011
SURT, Libya — In the parched garden of the Mahari Hotel, volunteers on Monday scrubbed signs of a recent massacre. They collected dozens of bodies, apparently of people executed on the hotel grounds several days ago, but left other evidence behind, like the plastic ties that were used to bind the hands of victims and shell casings, scattered on the dead grass in patches of blood.
The volunteers said the victims included at least two former Qaddafi government officials, local loyalist fighters and maybe civilians. The killers, they believed, were former rebel fighters, belonging to anti-Qaddafi units that had used the hotel as a base in recent weeks. It appeared to be one of the worst massacres of the eight-month conflict, but days after it occurred, no one from Libya’s new government had come to investigate.
The interim leaders, who declared the country liberated on Sunday, may simply have their hands full with the responsibilities that come with running a state. But throughout the Libyan conflict, they have also shown themselves to be unwilling or incapable of looking into accusations of atrocities by their fighters, despite repeated pledges not to tolerate abuse.
The lack of control came into sharp focus last week, when former rebel fighters arrested Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi. In videos of the capture on Thursday morning, victorious fighters were shown manhandling Colonel Qaddafi, who appeared to be bleeding and distressed but conscious. This was moments after he was pulled from a large drainage pipe where he had hidden after a NATO air assault destroyed part of his convoy. Subsequent video shows his bruised corpse, with at least one bullet wound to the head.

Who lost the world? Obama has paved the way for an explosive era
By Frank J. Gaffney, Jr.
http://www.JewishWorldReview.com
Conventional wisdom has it that the 2012 presidential election will be all about the dismal economy, unemployment and the soaring deficit. That appears a safe bet because such matters touch the electorate, are much in the news at the moment and have indisputably become worse on Barack Obama's watch.
It seems increasingly likely, however, that the American people will have a whole lot more to worry about by next fall. Indeed, the way things are going, by November 2012, we may see the Middle East - and perhaps other parts of the planet - plunged into a cataclysmic war.
Consider just a few of the straws in the wind of a gathering storm:
• Moammar Gadhafi's death last week prompted the Obama administration to trumpet the president's competence as commander in chief and the superiority of his "small footprint," "lead-from-behind" approach to waging war over the more traditional - and costly and messy - one pursued by George W. Bush. The bloom came off that false rose on Sunday when Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, chairman of the National Transitional Council, repeatedly declared his government's fealty to Shariah, Islam's brutally repressive, totalitarian political-military-legal doctrine.
Among other things, Mr. Abdul-Jalil said Shariah would be the "basic source" of all legislation. Translation: Forget about representative democracy. Under Shariah, Allah - not man - makes the laws.
In short, the result of Mr. Obama's $2 billion expenditure to oust Gadhafi is a regime that will be led by jihadists, controls vast oil reserves and has inherited a very substantial arsenal (although some of it - including reportedly as many as 20,000 surface-to-air missiles - has "gone missing"). This scarcely can be considered a victory for the United States and probably will prove a grave liability.
• An Islamist party called Ennahda seems likely to have captured the lion's share of the votes cast in the first free election in Tunisia. Although we are assured it is a "moderate" religious party, the same has long been said of Turkey's governing AKP party. Unfortunately, we have lately seen the latter's true colors as it has become ever more insistent at home on jettisoning the secular form of government handed down by Mustafa Kemal Attaturk and acted ever more aggressively abroad. A similar transformation can be expected, later if not sooner, of any Shariah-adherent political movement.
• In Egypt, meanwhile, the agenda of the Islamists' mother ship - the Muslim Brotherhood - is being adopted even before elections formally bring it to power. The interim military government has abetted efforts to punish and even kill the Coptic Christian minority. It has facilitated the arming of the Brotherhood's franchise in Gaza and allowed the Sinai to become the launching pad for al Qaeda and others' attacks on Israel.
Egypt's transitional regime also helped broker the odious exchange of more than 1,000 convicted terrorists held by Israel for a single soldier kidnapped and held hostage for five years by Hamas. Upon their release, the convicts with Jewish blood on their hands received heroes' welcomes even as they affirmed their desire to destroy Israel and called for the seizure of still more Israelis to spring their comrades still behind bars. This does not augur well for either the Jewish state or for our interests.
• The increasingly mercurial Afghan president, Hamid Karzai, has announced that - despite the long-running, immensely costly and ongoing U.S. effort to protect his kleptocratic government - in a war between Pakistan and the United States, Afghanistan would side with Pakistan. The magnitude of this insulting repudiation of America is all the greater since Pakistan is widely seen as doing everything it can to re-establish the Taliban in Kabul.
In Iraq, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has touted his success in thwarting Washington's belated (and halfhearted) efforts to keep a significant number of U.S. forces in his country after the end of this year. His coalition partner and fellow Iranian cat's paw, Muqtada al-Sadr, already is boasting that he also will drive out the American contractor personnel who are, for the moment, expected to provide a measure of security after the military withdraws. In that case, we may well see the mullahs' agents take over a U.S. embassy for the second time since 1979 - this one the newest, largest and most expensive in the world.
Add to this litany an emboldened and ascendant China, a revanchist Russia once again under the absolute control of Vladimir Putin, a Mexico free-falling into civil war with narcotraffickers and their Hezbollah allies on our southern border and you get a world that is fraught with peril for the United States. Matters are made infinitely worse by the prospect of reckless budget cuts hollowing out the U.S. military.
The Republican candidates to succeed Mr. Obama are beginning to find their voices on the national security portfolio. They will be formally debating the president's sorry record in coming weeks. The question the American people will want answered is not only "Who lost the world?" but what they will do to get it back.

Signs of Executions Mar Libya Peace
WSJ ^ | OCTOBER 25, 2011 | MARGARET COKER
TRIPOLI, Libya—Fresh evidence has emerged that fighters battling for control of Moammar Gadhafi's hometown of Sirte were responsible for numerous extrajudicial killings and other possible atrocities, raising new questions about the final moments in Libya's revolution and adding to the challenges of national reconciliation.
Residents of Sirte and medical workers say that they have identified dozens of corpses of both Gadhafi loyalists and antiregime fighters, who appear to have died by shots to the back of the head while their hands were bound.
They say these bodies are among hundreds of unidentified corpses littering the streets of Sirte and filling the hospital morgues.
The news of possible atrocities during the final battle of the eight-month war to oust Gadhafi comes as controversy has swirled about the death of the former leader on Thursday. Gadhafi was captured alive in Sirte but later died in custody of fighters from Misrata, who were leading the military operation to seize control of the city.
The head of Libya's interim governing authority, the National Transitional Council, said Monday that he had ordered a full investigation into Gadhafi's death.
While few Libyans are bothered with the legal issues surrounding the last moments of their former leader, the emerging details of brutality in Sirte could have consequences for the transition to democracy.

The Face of the New Libya, Pt II – Lies and proof of atrocities grow
Flopping Aces ^ | 10-26-11 | Mataharley

Love and praise for Gaddafi's killer
To tag team Dr. John's first documentation on the "face of the new Libya", it seems more of the world is waking up that the new face may likely surpass the old face in ugliness and human rights violations.
It was just three days ago that Libyan rebel forces claimed they had captured Gadhafi's son and heir-apparent, Saif al-Islam, alive. In the flurry of truly stupid "Libyan freedom fighters" videos, capturing their war crimes and disregard for what the west would consider freedom and justice on their various new media, most bloggers were already hitting the bandwith with tongue in cheek estimates, likening al-Islam's anticipated lifespan in the hands of the rebels to that of a gnat.
But war crimes are not the only apparent face of the new Libya, as it turns out lying is another of their less than impressive traits. CBS News reports that not only is al-Islam alive, but fleeing Libya for parts unknown in Nigeria. This isn't the first time that the rebels have put forth false testimony and propaganda of their progress, prematurely declaring victory more than once over the months and claiming custody when there was none.
Not unlike the dictator, there are still questions about the events leading to the the capture of yet another of Gaddafi's sons, Mutassim Gaddafi, just a little over a week ago. Mutassim's fate eerily echoes that of his father's when shown in a video first as alive, and smoking a cigarette in custody... then mysteriously is dead from bullet wounds to the abdomen and neck. The rebels were, again, busy with their cell phone videos.
But while westerners set aside their normal respect for rule of law and justice, gleefully rejoicing in a particularly bloody end, the arguments some of us have been making about this "new and improved" Libya looking suspiciously like (if not worse) than the old Libya, is gaining traction as more proof surfaces supporting the the Libyan rebels committed war atrocities.
This goes far beyond just Gaddafi, as mass graves with hundreds of bodes are excavated... the count approx 300 in one alone at this writing.. many with their hands bound behind their backs, executed.
Ali Tarhouni of the National Transitional Council excuses the rebels as young boys who had witnessed murders of family and friends, and praised their "self control". Hey.. you can't make this stuff up.
Another graveyard of over 575 is supposed to contain "mercenaries"... many also summarily executed.
This is, of course, the so called "freedom fighters" to whom the French openly supplied arms. The same group who, today, Hillary calls on the UN for war crimes investigations, but was also responsible for paving the way for the US to also supply arms. If America did, they sure aren't disclosing that today.
Obama talks to Leno about Libya 10-25-11
This didn't stop the non-stop campaigner-in-chief, Obama, from calling Libya "... a recipe for success" on Jay Leno. Instead, the POTUS seemed detached from the less than freedom like behavior of the vigilante mobs and their multiple executions in warfare.

"Another graveyard of over 575 is supposed to contain "mercenaries"... many also summarily executed. "
Let's get this clear...
Kadaffi used the money of his people to import foreign african fighters, who came in and killed libyans indiscriminantly. They were paid very well, and vowed to fight for him until the end. Had they won, they would have been Kadaffi's own loyal army of killers forever. but they lost. And they were killed by the winners. They would have killed the losers, had they won, and they almost did.
So they took a risk, they lost, and they were killed in a civil war they only entered for profit$$$.
And we're crying for them now? come on.

Hamas boosting anti-aircraft arsenal with looted Libyan missiles

A rocket fired by Palestinians from Gaza last night landed between Ashdod and Gedera, in the first such attack after a two-month period of quiet. Sirens sounded in Ashdod and nearby communities and residents were told to enter protected rooms and shelters. There were no injuries.
Since the terrorist attack on the Egyptian border near Eilat that killed eight on August 18, the Gaza border has been relatively calm with only a few rocket launches, most directed at small communities near the Gaza Strip. Last night's rocket, fired around 11:10 p.m., landed in a field. It seems to have been fired from the northern end of the Gaza Strip, from a distance of about 30-35 kilometers . The explosion was heard clearly all over Ashdod, which means it had a relatively large warhead.

Al-Qaida plants its flag — literally — in Libya (Obama gives Al-Qaeda a big gift, a whole country)
daily caller ^ | 10/29/2011 | staff
If there were questions about al-Qaida’s role in post-Gadhafi Libya, VICE reporter Sherif Elhelwa provides some answers in a new story with eyewitness descriptions.
Al-Qaida flags, Elhelwa reports, are popping up around Benghazi. At the city courthouse, which played a prominent role in the Libyan revolution, residents are flying the late terrorist’s Osama bin Laden’s colors.
Similarly, Elhelwa recounts a regular evening sight: “Islamists driving brand-new SUVs and waving the black al Qaeda flag drive the city’s streets at night.”
Armed guards walk the streets, he reports, inspiring fear. Friendly civilians hurriedly warn Elhelwa that he is being watched by the Islamists. “I recommend that you leave now,” he is told.

Libya: revolutionaries turn on each other as fears grow for law and order
The fighting fuelled growing fears that nobody is in control of thousands of swaggering armed men who are still based in Tripoli and that the country's interim government will struggle to impose law and order.
Two people died from bullet wounds and at least seven fighters were injured during a battle that started when militia from the town of Zintan were stopped by guards from the Tripoli Brigade from entering the city's Central Hospital to kill a patient.
The hospital front door and entrance hall were afterwards left pocked with bullets, doctors and patients had to flee the building and two elderly patients died of heart attacks during the shooting, which lasted from about 1am until dawn. Heavy machine guns and anti-aircraft guns were used by both factions, supposed allies who in reality nurse a dangerous rivalry.
The shoot-out started when a group of gunmen arrived at the hospital in search of a man they had shot earlier in the night. Witnesses said the gunmen were drunk, and had come to finish the man off after learning that he had survived and been taken for medical treatment.

Liberated Libya: Al Qaeda Flag Aloft Benghazi's Courthouse
The American Thinker ^ | 10/29/11 | Andrew G. Bostom
The courthouse in Benghazi, is the iconic seat of the revolt which toppled Qaddafi -- Libya's "(im)moral equivalent" to Egypt's Tahrir Square. During the tumultuous months of Libya's brutal civil war, it was here that rebel forces established a provisional government, and propagandistic media center, crowing to foreign journalists about their "heroic" struggle "for freedom."
Earlier this week, I went to the Benghazi courthouse and confirmed the rumors: an al Qaeda flag was clearly visible; its Arabic script declaring that "there is no God but Allah" and a full moon underneath. When I tried to take pictures, a Salafi-looking guard, wearing a green camouflage outfit, rushed towards me and demanded to know what I was doing. My response was straightforward: I was taking a picture of the flag. He gave me an intimidating look and hissed, "Whomever speaks ill of this flag, we will cut off his tongue. I recommend that you don't publish these. You will bring trouble to yourself." He followed me inside the courthouse, but luckily my driver Khaled was close by, and interceded on my behalf. According to Khaled, the guard had angrily threatened to harm me. When I again engaged him in conversation, he told me "this flag is the true flag of Islam"....

Benghazi: A Sea of Al-Qaeda Flags
November 5, 2011 6:00 A.M.
By John Rosenthal
The emergence of images of a black al-Qaeda flag flying atop the Benghazi courthouse, the symbolic cradle of Libya’s anti-Qaddafi rebellion, has provoked hasty efforts at damage control by defenders of the rebellion and the new Libyan order. The latter, mostly operating under cover of anonymity in online comments sections, have suggested, among other things, that the images were photoshopped, that the flag is not in fact the al-Qaeda flag, and that the raising of the flag was an isolated incident: the work of, as one commentator here put it, a “small group of Islamists.” But pictorial evidence posted on an Arabic-language Islamic Internet forum reveals that the Benghazi waterfront was in fact covered by a veritable sea of al-Qaeda flags last week: both the “classic” black version and a more novel white one.
Large-format, high-resolution versions of the photos are available here on Muslm.net. The selection also includes a grainier video still. Smaller versions of the images are reproduced below.
Note that some of the above images have also appeared in the Western press, though typically without any mention, much less identification, of the flags. For one prominent example, see my “See No Al-Qaeda: The New York Times and Libya” on the Corner. The photos that appeared in the Western press are dated October 28 and attributed to Reuters photographer Esam al-Fetori.
What is commonly known as the al-Qaeda flag was reportedly first used by the late Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi’s al-Qaeda affiliate in Iraq. The Arabic script represents the Islamic shahada or declaration of faith: “There is no god but God [Allah], and Muhammad is the messenger of God.” The script that appears on the Libyan flags is slightly different in style from that on the “original” Iraqi ones. The design is identical.
As the below detail from a screenshot shows, the poster of the photos on Muslm.net uses the original Iraqi al-Qaeda flag as an avatar.
The Middle East Media Research Institute has posted a two-minute-long video clip, dated October 25, that shows a parade of vehicles in Libya flying the al-Qaeda flag. The exact location is not given, but it appears also to be Benghazi. The images of the “vehicle parade” are followed by images of a traditional march in which demonstrators chanting “Allahu Akbar!” can likewise be seen flying the flag.
Were it not for the deficiencies of reporting on Libya in the mainstream Western media, the appearance of al-Qaeda flags in the capital of the anti-Qaddafi rebellion should come as no surprise. As shown by the captured al-Qaeda personnel records known as the “Sinjar Records,” the eastern Libyan heartland of the anti-Qaddafi rebellion was one of the major sources of the foreign recruits that joined al-Qaeda in Iraq to fight against American and coalition forces. (For a discussion, see here.) Abdul Hakim al-Hasadi, a leading military commander of the rebellion on the Eastern front, has admitted to personally recruiting many of the Libyan al-Qaeda members and that some of them returned to Libya to participate in the “jihad” against Qaddafi.

Obama becomes 'Silent Cal' on Libya, sharia
By: Gregory Kane | 11/02/11 7:05 PM
Examiner Columnist
With each passing day, we're learning more and more about the people President Obama tossed us into bed with in Libya.
Here's a headline from the London Daily Mail, a British newspaper:
"Now the rebels impose Shariah law as Islamic rules become 'basic source' of Libyan legislation."
In the story below the headline, readers learn from the chairman of Libya's National Transition Council that the country's new parliament will have "an Islamist tint," that "any existing laws contradicting the teachings of Islam would be nullified" and that men would be allowed to have as many as four wives.
Again, the question must be put to Barack Hussein "American Values" Obama, president of the United States: exactly how do Shariah law and polygamy reflect American values?
Remember, when Obama justified American and NATO airstrikes in Libya to support the rebel forces that toppled the regime of Moammar Gadhafi, he claimed that preventing bloodshed was an "American value."
But there was bloodshed aplenty, as least on the side of Gadhafi forces. Gadhafi himself was a victim of the bloodshed, and the circumstances of his death that have come to light shed more light on what a sham Obama's claim of acting to preserve American values really is.
In a separate London Daily Mail story about Gadhafi's death, the paper printed the photo of an unidentified rebel who claimed he was the one who killed Gadhafi.
"We grabbed [Gadhafi]," the young man said. "I hit him in the face. Some fighters wanted to take him away and that's when I shot him, twice, in the face and in the chest."
Later, it was revealed that more was done to Gadhafi than this young rebel merely shooting him in the face and chest.
Some reports say that, before he died, Gadhafi was sodomized with either a knife, bayonet or some other sharp object.
So let's recap:
1. Obama commits American forces -- as part of NATO -- to supporting a rebel faction in Libya whose goal is to overthrow Gadhafi. Obama does this while having absolutely no clue about what kind of people make up this rebel faction.
2. The rebel forces prevail, primarily through NATO airstrikes. It was a NATO airstrike that took out a Gadhafi convoy fleeing Sirte that allowed rebel forces to capture the deposed Libyan leader.
3. Gadhafi ends up in the hands of what can only be considered a mob. He is beaten, tortured, possibly sodomized, and fatally shot in what has been oxymoronically described as "mob justice." His body is then put on public display in a meat store.
4. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton flies into Libya and announces, with the smug arrogance we might expect from an official from Obama's administration, "We came, we saw, he [Gadhafi] died."
5. Leaders of Libya's National Transition Council announce that Shariah law will prevail in Libya.
6. Obama is mum on No. 5.
He hasn't said one word about the blatantly false account of Gadhafi's death that interim Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril initially gave reporters.
He hasn't condemned the "mob justice" that led to Gadhafi's death, the beating, the torture, the alleged sodomizing. He hasn't mumbled so much as a syllable about Gadhafi's body being put on display in a meat store.
Obama hasn't said one word about Shariah being the law of the land in the new Libya. The man who was unavoidable for comment when it came to justifying American intervention in Libya has now pulled a complete Harpo Marx act.
On this issue, Obama has made "Silent" Cal Coolidge look like a motor mouth.

Today’s Questions for the President
By Peter Kirsanow
Posted on November 07, 2011 11:44 AM
The U.N. envoy to Libya reports that weapons depots in that country remain unguarded and large amounts of weaponry have gone missing, including thousands of shoulder-fired missiles. At least two sites contain chemical weapons and nuclear material, including approximately 7,000 drums of uranium. Assistant Secretary of State Andrew Shapiro says terrorist groups have expressed interest in obtaining the missiles, which “could pose a threat to civil aviation.”
The Daily Telegraph reports that Libyan rebel leader Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi has admitted that a significant number of the Libyan rebels consisted of al-Qaeda fighters, many of whom fought U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Numerous news outlets report that in the last two weeks, scores of al-Qaeda flags have been raised over Benghazi and throughout Libya, including over the headquarters of the Libyan rebels.
Given the evident allegiances and sympathies of many of the Libyan rebels, what is the probability that al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups will acquire, or already have acquired, at least some of the missing Libyan weapons?
Do we have any basis for determining how many of the chemical weapons and drums of uranium are missing?
Is Libya a lesser threat to U.S. security now than it was a year ago, or is it a greater one?

U.S. can’t stand by while racism ravages Libya (JESSE JAGMO ALERT)
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | November 8, 2011 7:44AM | Jesse Jackson jjackson@rainbowpush.org
Before leaving the G-20 meetings in Cannes, France, President Obama joined with French President Sarkozy to pay tribute to the two countries’ alliance and celebrate the successful intervention in Libya that ended the rule of Moammar Gadhafi.
“Every man and woman in uniform who participated in this effort can know that you have accomplished every objective,” Obama said. “Today, the Libyan people have liberated their country and begun to forge their own future.”
Obama, who launched the Libyan mission amid widespread Republican criticism, had good reasons to greet Gadhafi’s overthrow with relief. And all hope that democracy can take root. But once the U.S. intervenes in an internal foreign dispute, we bear greater responsibility for the outcome. Before the “war of choice” on Iraq, former Secretary of State Colin Powell warned President Bush about the “Pottery Barn rule: If you break it, you own it.”
That’s why the U.S. and its allies must respond to the credible reports of terrible violence being wreaked on dark-skinned Libyans by the victors. According to Human Rights Watch, “It is a dangerous time to be dark-skinned in Tripoli.” Reports abound that black Libyans are being subjected to beatings, torture, rape, killings — and, in several instances, horrific public lynchings.
Racism in Libya has a long and complex history but has grown fierce since the uprising against Gadhafi began in February. Under Gadhafi, foreign workers accounted for about one quarter of Libya’s 6 million population. Most came from Africa, poor immigrants seeking jobs in Libya’s oil, agriculture or other sectors. They live predominantly in the southern part of the country and many were naturally loyal to Gadhafi.
Now towns like Tawergha in the southern region previously loyal to Gadhafi are reported to be ghost towns, with entire populations having “disappeared.” The revolutionaries claim that many of those arrested or killed were “mercenaries” hired by Gadhafi to defend the regime. While some, no doubt, fought on Gadhafi’s side, independent analysts say the rumors about mercenaries are wildly exaggerated and are used as an excuse for trampling rights.
Libya’s National Transitional Council has denied the allegations, telling the U.N. Human Rights Council: “We do not make any distinction among people on grounds of color.” But independent organizations like Amnesty International confirm the reports that refugees and other dark-skinned Libyans are filling detention centers, with allegations of torture widespread.
The U.S. and its allies intervened in the Libyan conflict on the basis of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1975, which called for the international community to use all necessary means to protect civilians. The abuse and ethnic cleansing of dark-skinned people mock that authority.
It is vital that there be an immediate United Nations investigation of the reports of ethnic cleansing and violence against dark-skinned people in Libya. The allied nations should work with the new authorities in Libya to strengthen the rule of law, stop ethnic violence and end human rights abuses. The Obama administration should independently investigate the atrocities and bring international attention to the situation.
No one knows what comes next in Libya. But the United States and the other NATO allies involved in the intervention are not simply onlookers. They can’t simply celebrate the end of Gadhafi regime. They bear responsibility, in part, for what comes next — and cannot stand silently by as racial division becomes deadly.
LMFAO!!!!
STAY OUT DA BUSHES!

Oh wow, a UN investigation on ethnic cleansing.
Now that's some serious action there. ::)

A leading member of an al Qaeda-affiliated terror group indicated the organization may have acquired some of the thousands of powerful weapons that went missing in the chaos of the Libyan uprising, stoking long-held fears of Western officials.
"We have been one of the main beneficiaries of the revolutions in the Arab world," Mokhtar Belmokhtar, a leader of the north Africa-based al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb [AQIM], told the Mauritanian news agency ANI Wednesday. "As for our benefiting from the [Libyan] weapons, this is a natural thing in these kinds of circumstances."

Smuggled Libyan Weapons Raise Al Qaeda Fears (Thanks to Obama, Al-Qaeda has lots of new weapons)

Weapons smuggled from Libya after the collapse of Muammar Qaddafi's government are flowing through the surrounding region, the president of neighboring guy said, a development that threatens to destabilize a swath of the continent already struggling against ethnic unrest and a regional branch of Al Qaeda.
"Arms were stolen in Libya and are being disseminated all over the region," guy's president Mahamadou Issoufou said following a meeting with South African president Jacob Zuma. "Saharan countries are facing terrorist threats, arms and criminal trafficking. The Libya crisis is amplifying those crises."
Issoufou's remarks came days after guy's military clashed with arms smugglers traveling from Libya. Six smugglers and one soldier died in Sunday's battle, he said.
guy's foreign minister Mohamed Bazoum said the battle was the fourth such incident since February, the beginning of the uprising in Libya that resulted in Qaddafi's overthrow and the widespread looting of his vast armories.

Interim government officials struggle to calm tensions amid talk of tribal feuds and diehard support for former leader Gaddafi.
Heavy fighting between local armed groups killed several people on the outskirts of Tripoli on Saturday, as interim government officials struggled to calm tensions amid talk of tribal feuds and diehard support for Muammar Gaddafi.
On a second day of clashes near a military camp lying among farms and villages between the capital and the port of Zawiyah, some 50 km (30 miles) to the west, anti-Gaddafi fighters from Zawiyah pounded targets with heavy machineguns, anti-aircraft cannon, rocket-propelled grenades and Grad rockets.

TRIPOLI, Libya — Rival militias clashed on the outskirts of Tripoli for a fourth day Sunday, the most sustained violence since the capture and killing of Moammar Gadhafi last month.
The fighting, which has left at least four people dead since late last week, raised new concerns about the ability of Libya's transitional government to disarm thousands of fighters and restore order after a bloody eight-month civil war.
Libya's interim leader, Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, said his National Transitional Council brought together elders from the rival areas — the coastal city of Zawiya and the nearby town of Warshefana — over the weekend and that the dispute has been resolved. "I want to assure the Libyan people that everything is under control," he said Sunday. However, as he spoke, fighting continued.
On Sunday afternoon, journalists heard gunfire and explosions of rocket-propelled grenades on the outskirts of a major military camp of the ousted regime. The camp, once a base of elite forces commanded by one of Gadhafi's sons, Khamis, is located on a highway midway between the capital of Tripoli and Zawiya, 30 miles (50 kilometers) to the west.

Israel rushes airliner defenses as Libya leaks SAMs
reuters ^ | Nov 11, 2011 | Dan Williams
Israel has accelerated the installation of anti-missile defenses on its airliners, a security official said on Friday, seeing an enhanced risk of attack by militants using looted Libyan arms.
Jets flown by El Al and two other Israeli carriers are being equipped with a locally made system known as C-Music that uses a laser to "blind" heat-seeking missiles, the official said, giving a 2013 target for fitting most of the fleet.
As a stop-gap, Israel is adapting air force counter-measures for use aboard civilian planes, said the official, who declined to elaborate on the technologies involved, or to be identified.
"We have long been aware of the threat and were ahead of the rest of the world in preparing for it. Libya has meant government orders to step things up even further," the official said, citing intelligence assessments that chaos during the North African nation's uprising against Muammar Gaddafi allowed trafficking of Libyan shoulder-fired missiles to Palestinians and al Qaeda-linked groups in the Egyptian Sinai.
Israel began deploying another system, "Flight Guard," on El Al after al Qaeda tried to shoot down a planeload of Israeli tourists in Kenya in 2002. Flight Guard's use of diversionary flares set off safety concerns abroad and the Israelis turned to C-Music, manufactured by Elbit Systems Ltd..
According to the Israeli official, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government is covering the $1 million to $1.5 million that it costs to fit C-Music to each plane.
The bathtub-sized pods, built into the planes' bodies, increase drag in flight, meaning "a few million (dollars) a year" in extra fuel expenses, the official said, adding that this, too, would be borne by the government.

Libyan Islamists Pushing For Strict Sharia Law Attack Sufi Mosque…
Bloomberg ^ | 11-17-11 | Christopher Stephen
Libyan gunmen broke into the Saif al-Nasr mosque in Tripoli early on Nov. 8, smashed open a wooden sarcophagus and removed the remains of Saif al-Nasr, a scholar who died 155 years ago, and a former imam, Hammad Zwai.
“These bodies have been moved to a Muslim cemetery,” announced graffiti on the walls, explaining the disapproval by some Islamists of the Sufi Muslim tradition of burying scholars and teachers in mosques to honor them.
Muslims pushing for a strict intepretation of Islamic law are jostling for power in the chaos that has gripped Libya since the ouster of Muammar Qaddafi, the third North African leader after those in Egypt and Tunisia to fall in the Arab Spring.
Last month protesters holding signs proclaiming “We Are Here to Purify the Honor of Tripoli” forced the early closure of the capital’s first fashion show since Qaddafi’s 42-year rule in Tripoli ended in August.

The detention of 7,000 people in prisons and camps by the anti-Gaddafi forces is not surprising. The conflict in Libya was always much more of a civil war between Libyans than foreign governments pretended or the foreign media reported.
The winning anti-Gaddafi militia are not proving merciful. Often they have had relatives killed in the fighting or imprisoned by the old regime who they want to avenge. Sometimes they come from tribes and towns traditionally hostile to neighbouring tribes and towns. Gaddafi supporters are being hunted down. According to one person in Gaddafi's home town of Sirte, they are facing a "continuing reign of terror".
"There is a deep and spreading frenzy, particularly among some of the youth militia and the Islamists, to hunt down anyone associated with the former regime," the source said.
The National Transitional Council, whose control is largely theoretical, is not in a position to stop this purge because many of its members are themselves frightened of being accused of links with the old regime.
Some groups are particularly vulnerable. The then-rebels were convinced earlier this year that many of those they were fighting were mercenaries recruited in Central or West Africa. But when these alleged "mercenaries" were arrested in Tripoli, many turned out to be black migrant labourers without identity papers.
According to Amnesty International, some of those who were put on television by the rebels as mercenaries were later quietly freed because they were migrant workers. Others faced mob justice before they were able to prove their identities.
The international media was overwhelmingly hostile to Gaddafi's regime and tended to highlight atrocities committed by it and disregard or underplay human rights violations carried out by his opponents. An example of this occurred when eight or nine bodies of Libyan soldiers were found who appeared to have been executed. The rebels claimed they had been shot by Gaddafi's men because they tried to change sides. But Amnesty located a film of the soldiers being captured alive by the rebels and it was presumably the rebels who killed them.
The purge of Gaddafi supporters is made more dangerous by the infighting between the militias, and between them and the politicians. Association with the old regime can be used to discredit an opponent. There may also be self-interest since death squads are reported to be taking their property.

Former Libya rebels still hold 7,000 people, some reportedly tortured: UN chief
The Star ^ | 11/28/11 | ap
Former Libyan revolutionaries still hold about 7,000 people, and some reportedly have been subjected to torture and ill treatment, according to a UN report circulated Monday.
The report by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, made public before a Security Council briefing about Libya on Monday afternoon, says that many of the inmates have no access to due process in the absence of a functioning police and judiciary.
It also says that sub-Saharan Africans, in come cases accused or suspected of being mercenaries hired by Moammar Gadhafi’s regime, constitute a large number of those held.
“While the (National Transitional Council) has taken some steps toward transferring responsibility for the detainees from brigades to proper state authorities, much remains to be done to regularize detention, prevent abuse and bring about the release of those whose detention should not be prolonged,” the report says.

Qaddafi's Missing State Of The Art Missiles Are Now Pointed At Israel
Robert Johnson | Mar. 15, 2012, 8:42 AM | 558 | 7
Long after the bombs stopped falling from NATO planes in Libya last fall, and Qaddafi was killed, questions over where his huge stockpiles of weapons went to lingered — until now.
David Fulghum and Robert Wall at Aviation Week report that "at least some" of the 480 state-of-the-art Russian SA-24 "Grinch" shoulder launched missiles are in the hands of Hamas and Hezbollah.
An Israeli official told Aviation Week "They are in the Gaza Strip. I don't know in what numbers. They are also in Lebanon."
Though the Grinch is one of the most sophisticated anti-aircraft weapons in the world, AvWeek notes that Western forces have developed ways to neutralize them in helicopters like the Apache even without infrared countermeasures.
What they leave unsaid is that the 11,000 foot range of the SA-24 could handily pick off a civilian airliner with its heat seeking missiles.
The Grinch made the news before. In 2003, British national Hemant Lakhani, was arrested for trying to bring the rockets to the U.S. to use against Air Force One or a civilian airliner.

While Libya’s first free national election in 60 years is a cause for celebration by many voters, polling in two eastern cities was suspended due to violence.
Security sources say a group of radical Islamists stormed several polling stations in Ajdabiya and Brega and burned or stole ballot boxes.
Authorities decided to proceed with Sunday’s vote despite surge in violence and vandalism in recent days. …
The polls will choose a 200 member legislative assembly which will elect a prime minister and cabinet and draft the country’s new constitution. …

A war started by a republican.
Obamas war in Libya has not caused any american casualties
You and Bush FAIL
-
I supported what Bush was trying to do in IRAQ.....but when you guys compare IRAQ to LIBYA and claim Obama is a failure.....all I can say is WOW!!!!!..you guys are really Delusional......
IRAQ......over 4000 dead American soldiers......
LIBYA.....0 dead American soldiers
when you look at this above and come to any other conclusion other than Obama was super successful in Libya, then that says all about the idiot conservatives on this board...
and if you continue to argue at this point then you are not only delusional, but stupid, insane, fucked up in the head, and racist

http://cnsnews.com/news/article/obama-s-watch-39-months-69-percent-afghan-war-casualties
It was 69% as of May 1, 2012 - but since May 1, we have lost a lot more bumping that number up.
So again - where are the anti war groups, Sheehan, michael Moore, Move On?
-
And that is Obama's fault? How?
-
And that is Obama's fault? How?
And how were the KIA under Bush his fault? Obama decided to do the surge in Afghanistan remember? He owns this now.

I never said it was Bush's fault. You are insinuating it is Obamas.

kadaffi killed americans. blew up a plane full of them.
so i dont care who comes next - less entrenched and we can kill them too - but kadaffi had to go.
ANY time we don't kill a terrorist who killed our fellow americans because "but the next guy might be worse" = inexcusable.
So let's please retire that statement.

If we have proof a leader of a nation ordered an airplane full of americans exploded -
then YES we should kill his ass.
Shock and awe the capital city, or send in goons to wack em. either way.
I dont want to bomb iran because their #3 in charge (yes, ahmedidickeahdijad is nancy pelosi/john boehnner over there) talked shit.
he doesn't have the power to declare war.
I'm cool with bombing iran for oil though, nothing wrong with that. share it or feel the JDAM baby.
-
What about supplying iEDS for terrorists?

ooh, great point. We should drop 100 bombs on their country for every US soldier wounded or killed by their IEDs.
Make the policy very clear and enforce that guy immediately. no warnings.
Watch how fast that supply dries up.

I could agree w bombing the nuke sites but not boot on the ground.

we had 140k 'outsourced' contractors working with 150k actual US soldiers.
Surely we could send in 20,000 badasses with 10k in support roles... all outsourced... and get the job done on the ground.
Dudes are making 1k a day to take the risk - all private sector mercs. Nothing wrong with that!

Mercenaries/Contractors aren't soldiers. They're doing it for the money, many dont have the same morals/values of the actual enlisted soldiers and many wouldnt lay down their lives for each other.
Many ARE former military and specops, yes, but I wouldnt rely on contractors, no way no how.

morals/values? Wait, what is the goal of war? To make friends with iranians, or destory them as fast and efficiently as possible?
i want some Call of Duty MFers going in there, icing anything that moves, and getting out of there.

You also want people willing to die for their objective no matter the cost, not people who are more concerned with making it home alive to spend their money than they are mission accomplishment.
C'mon dude, you cant be this dumb.
Whats with the CoD reference? Seriously? You realize that game has no basis in reality, right?

we need troops for an occupation. I see no need for an occupation.
we need hired guns when it's shock n awe, kill a select group, in and out in 3 weeks.
really, if every world leader knew 20 city blocks would be flattened for every attack on a US target, those attacks would dry up quickly.
-

Uh, what?
You dont want contractors for Shock and Awe dumbass. Really? Do you know ANYTHING about the military?
Troops for an occupation?
What are you smoking?
Our military is an aggressor force, especially the Marine Corp, they WERE our shock troops in Iraq, they made it to Baghdad in weeks, in one of the quickest marches in history.
Their whole mission is to smash and destroy with the most overwhelming force possible.
We have some of the best trained and most highly motivated military in existance, ever, and you want to use contractors?
Guys who fight for cash, havent spent years training with each other, dont have access to nearly as much weapons/technology, etc, etc, etc?
If youre talking about small surgical units, your idea gets even more ridiculous. We have some of the absolute best Special Operators in the world, between the SEALs, Army SF, and MARSOC, theyre capable of sneaking in, icing whoever needs icing, and sneaking out without anyone even knowing they were there. Hell, in some cases they'll carry weapons that fire the enemies rounds so they dont even leave tracable shell casings behind.
I mean, these are guys that literally are capable of blending in with the civilian populace of their targets... in essence, becoming invisible.
In Iraq and Afghanistan, these guys wore the same hadji clothes and beards, walked among them without anyone the wiser. They speak multiple languages, theyre fucking ghosts.
