Of course parents should communicate with their kids, where did I say that smacking kids is the only interaction they should have?
Good for you regarding your childhood, but you're more of an exception than the average case. 99.99% of kids, if not just about all of them, get into mischief and do things they shouldn't, which is part of growing up. Disciplining teaches them that there are consequences to their actions and sometimes, a smack goes a long way and is more effective than a benign approach. Parents have been doing it throughout history and it's only made the (non-abused) kids better for it.

My friends from elementary school were always "respectful" for their teachers and beaten up by their parents. They feared them. Do you know where they are now in life? NOWHERE.
You have to be an AUTHORITY to your kids, but you cannot build that on brute strength and power. I respected my parents becouse they are intelligent, succesful and I always wanted to be like them.

Of course kids need attention from BOTH parents wether both are in the household or not. What baffles me to no end was last year, two boys, were horrific acting. The teacher, had to mark a check box on these 2 little twirps behavior sheet good, not listening or had to put in the naughty chair. The fuck, I dunno about some of you, but if I ever got sent a note home for talking to much in class (it happend a few times :-X) or whatever, all my folks had to say is let that happen again and see what happens. I got the paddle one time and that was enough for me. I honestly feel parents are way to easy on the kids these days. If you don't believe in spankings, that's fine, but make it to where if they fuck up in school, they pay other consequences. Take toys, tv or what have you away, No teacher, should take the time away from class schedule to take note if kids are behaving or not. Last year I saw a 5 year old hit the teacher. She stayed calm and said that was un acceptable. I told that little fucker to sit out of recess (I know his parents). He told my daughter your mommy is mean, she said well she tells me all the time I'll thank her later ;D. I talked to the little boy and he apologized but he had to stay there the entire time. Guess what, he didn't do it again.

Having to resort to beating/whipping/belting means either you are an abusive parent and/or not a very smart one. There are better and smarter ways to discipline children without having to resort to physical contact. Bringing out the 50's "old style" form of discipline is not effective, despite what the old geezers will tell you. When the child is young, you may slap them to correct them, such as slapping their hand away from a light socket. But to beat on a teenager? LOL I could steak 50k from my parents and my dad would probably let me have it. But, I never once stole from them, was always respectful to others, got in some trouble but NOTHING like kids these days. From a young age my parents let me do whatever the fuck I wanted, come home late at night on school nights past curfew etc. Fuck I took my dad's mustang out for a spin when I was like 16 years old and he caught me going 100 in the neighborhood, just said "be careful" lol....
here is the thing though, despite having more freedom than other kids I never abused that power. That is the secret to raising kids, let them have all the freedom they want and they will have no reason to disobey you. Kids like to push the envelope, and if you set rules you know they are gonna break them. For example, all the women I know who would talk about their "hard ass" dads were always the biggest sluts in school, all my friends with hardass parents ended up either in trouble with the law or huge potheads and are now into narcotics. It depends on the kid and what you know about that kid obviously. You can't just assume that a beating will stop any undesirable behavior.
But if I put it this way; if there's an alternative to beating that might take a little bit more effort on your part, what would you choose to do? What do you think would be better for the kid? If you were to beat the kid you'd probably do it out of sheer anger and nothing else.
Besides, if the kid lit the house on fire on purpose then we're talking some serious psychological issues...

tbombz= crack addict, food addict, now a steroid addict/ cock addict
coach= a 50 year old leprichaun with a niche for steroids and teenage softball, but claims to be a son of god and a holy man, lol the potential of this character is limitless
groink= True physcopath. I'm 100% serious, I have seen this pattern with people before and it scares me. He is a very disturbed soul, something he is not telling us imo. I think he gets off to seeing people suffer, and hence the constant owning of people. Most likely takes vacations down to yugoslavia to torture people several times a year for his yearly "vacation"..

::) I don't know. If you know anything about corporal punishment in the South and in various cultures (which you apparently do not), what that video shows is a kid getting a garden variety "beating." I know lots of parents who whipped their kids that way, especially in the South. It's not the way I discipline my kids, but I'm not about to say it's abuse, especially after learning about the background facts.
And yes, her motivation is relevant. The fact she set this recording up, held it for six years, chose to live with him after the divorce, and only disclosed it after he cut her off and took away her Mercedes shows she probably didn't think she was being abused.
