That's very reductive, sorry to say. Do you have kids yourself? I have one and you don't establish authority just by statutory order. Doesn't work that way. Seems a lot of people have a very limited perception of what kids are and the way they think. A child growing up will test you, sure. But your authority is established from much more than being a genitor or just sheer force. I'd elaborate on this but it would be fucking long.
My mother came from the rural south. I was raised to say, yes please, no thank you, thank you. You take your hat off in the building, you knew what type of fork to use when you went out to a nice dinner. People would always comment on how well behaved we were.
When I gave that example, my mother was telling me that as child, that you don't question her authority.
Now, I joke with her and I tell her if she told me that now, I think she was getting dementia...
No, I have no kids now. But, it odd how people who have kids, when I say something to the kids, they buck right up...and their parents say, "they dot listen to me, but they listen to you."
