my hatred towards crossfit is the same as my hate for P90x. My hatred is based on bitterness towards the fact that I didn't think about making money off of 70 year old work outs that my uncles did in the Navy

Coach, I did. Thing is I try very hard to not mistake precision for accuracy. Just because he laid out a bunch of theory does not make him correct......like Johnny said, it ain't that complicated. There is no great cross fit death epidemic that the news is not covering, is there?

I don't have a problem with crossfit. If it's someone's method of training to be fit more power to them. The problem I have with crossfit is that they put down lifters and runners. The truth is anyone who doesn't follow what they percieve to be the ultimate way to be fit is to be put down. That makes it almost cult like.
Another truth is that most guys that lift weights would be embarrassed trying to keep up with a hard core crossfit class.

I don't really mind CF. At least, people are motivated and working out.
I just can't stand the attitude of CF'ers though. It's the 'latest' craze where if you're into something else(sport, training program, etc.), they act like you're inferior to them. It's really bizarre. And, "Work Capacity Across Broad Time And Modal Domain" – lol, what the hell is that????
I'm a competitive cyclist.... I have to train mega hours on the bike and powerlift. That's it. Then, I get people asking me, "ever heard of crossift???" "Dude, do you do crossfit??" "you should check out crossfit... it'll help you"

No, no death that I'm aware of but plenty of hospital visits. No offence, but saying it's not that complicated is just naive. That's like saying I'm going to follow this program but have do not have any idea why, why it's programmed that way or how it would physiologically effect me. That's just blind following.

I may get flamed for this, but here it goes... I like crossfit. I got huge into crossfit my senior year of college after my bball season ended. I even got certified as a "level 1" trainer with them. When they originally started, it was amazing. If you are looking to get in some of the best shape of your life, crossfit can do that for you. They originally preached a hardcore healthy diet, extremely intense workouts, and the only supplement they supported was fish oil. It was free too. Go to the crossfit web site, follow the WOD (workout of the day), and get in great shape!
It has become more gimmicky though. Once they established levels of competition and it become more of a business, what they stood for started to fade. I have even seen that some supplement companies are getting involved now which is something they would have originally never allowed, but it's tough to turn that money down!
Still, Crossfit has a solid outline to it and if you stick to what its basic teachings are, it is a great way to become a solid fitness generalist who is in great shape.

Ive got to agree with you 100% on this post.. however, I am a crossfitter and I love it for the competition with myself and the competition against others on the hq website. Before crossfit I was HUGE into the bodybuilding mentality.. and ya, it got me big and muscular and to the goals I wanted to reach at that time. But with bodybuilding, I was lacking something. I didn't want to compete on stage with a bunch of schmoes watching and beating off... but I wanted to put my muscle to a certain competitive athletic use. I looked into coed leagues, arena football, gymnastics... none really appealed to me. Once I found crossfit I never looked back. It scratches my competitive itch and everyday I complete a WOD I feel like I accomplished something great. And ya, Im in the absolute best shape of my life at with abs at 220 lbs. I don't give anyone shit for following the training I used to do, because I know it works too, and I don't know what their specific goals are.. but if someone approaches me and asks what sport do I play, which happens a couple times daily and they usually guess rugby, I tell them crossfit. FLAME SUIT ENGAGED!

The point it is that there is more to fitness than pure strength. I bet Mayweather couldn't bench 250lbs but I bet he could punch a lot harder than you because of his power. I also bet most under 175 pound wrestlers could submit you just by making you gas by fatigue without a submission hold. Just making a point that conditioning is important except in the mirror athlete; thong wearing; drug posing sport.

Then it's not for you?
Crossfit clearly states it's a generalist training, covering all aspects of fitness and athleticism. I like it, but I do alter many WoD to accomodate the equipment I have available. And yes, it's quite an advanced program, which requires teaching and supervision on quite a few exercises.

Nice. Crossfit actually lead me further into wanting to bodybuild. Opposite of your transition, but as I have said many times, as long as you have your goals set and are working toward them and are happy with what you are doing then that's what matters.

If you are not conditioned by being hit many times, punches from a middleweight can easily knock out anyone.

i see what you're saying about some of them being "cultish" and ridiculously dogmatic in their views. however, you might be unfairly judging a group by a few idiots. i mean look at this thread for instance. most of the guys posting here seem to think that they know "THE BEST WAY TO TRAIN" too.
in my experience, guys whos sit around and bash crossfit or any training modality are usuually the guys who aren't very impressive themselves. the guys who actually do walk the walk are usually the guys with an open mind and respect any competitor who is tryig to get better.

for the record. i don't crossfit. i train specifically for powerlifting. my wife crossfits though. and i have thrown in a lot of things from crossfit into my training. the only GPP that i have ever come across that rivals my prowler is the deadlift burpee WOD.
also, too many crossfit gyms don't know how to train crossfit. the good ones know that as a crossfitter gets more advanced, they don't get better at WOD's by doing WOD's. the good trainers know that the best crossfitters are the strongest crossfitters and many of their workouts will look very similar to a powerlifting or oly lifting type regimen.

Good points, you're right. Unfortunately, there have been quite a few franchises that have opened up all around my area.... talk about "cultish" wow. But, like most franchises, I'm sure it's not the same vibe/vision that CF had intended when they first started.
I guess the main thing is that people are motivated to train/get healthy/etc.... whether it's CF or anything else.

i don't think it's a fad. i just think it's really been marketed extremely well and pushed into the mainstream rather quickly. once something goes mainstream, you will always have a bunch of "gurus" who don't know dick pretending that they do. they do for crossfit what John Basedow did for bodybuilding.
crossfit has definitely been a huge catalyst for the introduction of hard work, barbells, and compound lifts into the mainstream and in my opinion, thats a big step in the right direction. one has to keep in mind that crossfit is a very young sport. all sports evolve and get better. the training gets better. crossfit is constantly discarding the shit that doesn;t wiork and keeping the shit that does. just like every performance sport.

I agree, crossfit in itself isn't bad for the people that like doing it, don't care about gaining muscle and have different goals. (unless the arguments of it being dangerous are true) It is some of the followers that made it crap.
