Bob at 84 yaers old

Muscle & Fitness has learned that Bob Delmonteque (real name, Mike Diaks), a pioneer in the fitness movement, passed away in Los Angeles on November 21st, 2011 at a reported age of 85.

According to his website, http://bobdelmonteque.com, Delmonteque trained legendary Hollywood stars like John Wayne, Errol Flynn, Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe, to whom he was a personal friend. A popular fitness magazine model during the 1950's, he also helped bring exercise to the masses in his role as part owner/operator of Executive Health Clubs International. In addition, he established a reputation as an accomplished fitness photographer and was the author of numerous books and articles.

More than merely an innovator in and ambassador for the world of health and fitness, Delmonteque practiced what he preached, maintaining a preternaturally strong, fit appearance well into his 80's.

I remember him from the 80s-era Muscle and Fitness mags. I figured he was a paid hanger-on?

One would think the Muscle and Fitness link would suffice...

If they are wrong, that's a hell of a big mistake or typo.  ::)

They are incorrect on diet, training and Steroids so why would they be the authority on death notices?

He's NOT 84 in that pic. It's at least 15 years old.

Anyway, yeah ... If he is dead, sad stuff. I interviewed the man back in my MMI days and found him to be polite and a genuine physical culture pioneer.

One would have to assume you are being facetious, no?

It's O.K (accepted?) for ALL of the bodybuilding publications to lie about training, supplements and juice, but when it comes to someone's death that is more of an "objective" thing wouldn't you say?

Many television and radio ads lie tremendously in their advertising... does that mean that everything else that is said on the station is a lie too?

RIP. I met Bob at the Arnold a few years ago. I was there with one of my personal training clients who was 63 and he asked Bob about hgh. Bob was very open about it. He told us he cycles his gh 3to4 months on and 1-2 months off for many years. This guys was very lean and muscular for his age.

do we have a cause of death? not to be a downer.. but 85 is not that old for someone who lived a very healthy and fit lifestyle for decades...

heck, my grandparents lived to 86 and 88 and 88 and 91 (mother and father's side) and they didn't exercise, ate normal but not healthy,, drank occassionally, and 1 of them smoked for decades....

genetics play a HUGE PART perhaps the HUGE MAJORITY PART in how long you live.. sometimes i can see why people think they will eat and drink and do whatever they want and enjoy their life... especially when they live past someone like this guy....

heck, steve reeves was only what 74 or so when he passed... same thing worked out and ate right and so on for decades.. and 74 is waaay too young to pass away...

i'm just saying.... seeing this guy's photos and ads in the mags i would have thought he would live to be past 100! all those ads showed as the epitome of health and strength, looking decades younger and of course having the physique of someone decades younger too... loved how the ads always showed him with some young nympho 50 years younger! lol!

did he die of cardiac arrest/heart attack, most likely because of the steroids. Think of being that jacked all these years that would destroy the heart like no other. His heart was working just as hard as someone obese carrying THAT much muscle weight

i wont accept a claim of dieing of "natural causes" what a load of shit

No idiot, he did not die of steroids. Do not make assumptions.  Everything in the world to you is steroids or someone died because of steroids.  Get over it. Most people die from other caauses.    Bob has been ill for quite a while this year, sometimes confined to a wheelchair, as he battled it.  Last year, he looked great as he came to all of the Muscle Beach events to visit and see his friends there.

R.I.P. Bob - it was always a pleasure seeing you every time at Muscle Beach.

On Septemer 5, 2011, Bob was inducted to the Muscle Beach Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, because he was so ill, he couldnt make it.

Great Job Falcon, Now when the mods and I meet with Ron in a few days at GetBig offices...he's going to be in a real, real bad mood. Do you know how hard it is to deal with Mr. Avidan when he's ticked?  Well, take a guess.  In fact, he just might revoke your past Positive Member award.  Way to make my life harder Mr.

For over six decades Bob Delmonteque crossed America and for that matter the world illustrating health, bodybuilding and anti-aging at its best. Bob Delmonteque opened up more doors for more people then thousands collectively could open in many lifetimes. He was the first real men’s model and painted by world Famous Salvador Dli.

It was Bob Delmonteque and Jack Lalanne that were the two role models for millions leading the way to health, fitness, anti-aging and a clean honest successful lifestyle.

I was personally so fortunate to have had Bob Delmonteque at many of our productions; such as the; “Academy of Bodybuilding and Fitness Awards®” just to name one where Bob received the “Lifetime Achievement Award”.

On 5TH September 2011 Labor Day weekend.  Bob was inducted into the “MUSCLE BEACH VENICE Hall of Fame” and given a plaque on their Walk of Fame. On his behalf, I accepted the Award and gave it to him along with a life size signed picture of Bob’s many book covers. Bob had under gone many radiation treatments for cancer and was too weak to make an appearance. Bob was indeed very happy to also receive a plaque from Ironman’s John Balik that same day.

When Bob spoke, the ground shook, people listened, he made you think and take account of your life with health, fitness and those around you…. He was Joe Weider’s closest friend and competent and knowledgeable partner for over sixty decades.

It was Bob Delmonteque that opened the doors to me personally. Collectively, Bob and I persuaded Joe Weider adopted our first “Women’s Figure / Model” contest and “Men’s Weider guy” at the 2000 Olympia Expo in Las Vegas. This was the official first events for Men’s Physique as they call it today. Women’s Figure was born at the 2000 Olympia as well. Unfortunately it took the powers that be ten long years to see our collective visions and get it right.

Bob had that Mr. Hollywood personality all the way to all he met right up to the end. Clean shaving, trimmed white hair, charming to say the least. Bob always wore a $5000 custom suite that fit him to the tee. He brought glamour and glitz to our industry. No sweat shirts or sweat pants for Bob.

Bob and I were working on a large project that we hope will be launched in late 2012. It was Bob’s favorite sayings: never give up! And to give um hell Mike. Also, Bob always quoted; a man’s lifeline is his waistline!  Bob was like a Father to me.

~ Bob Delmonteque ~ RIP

Steroids stress out the heart and create an environment for bad cholesterol. So YES roids do fuck you up, And its obvious that he had to be on them later in life because he was jacked more than a 20 year old with white hair. Wake up to reality ron. You want people to chase the dream because you love people wanting to get huge even at costs to there health. You will only reward the users and abusers in your world you take pics of them paying your respects and such, but all that worshipping has gone to your head and that you dont want to accept the dark side of it all. Misguided and mistreated is all that is seen by the objective mind

may he RIP, this has been a terrible year for people dieng around me and such the least we can do is help prevent the trends that get people in dark places to want to do drugs steroids and smoke ect. Lets not feed the masses a buffet of ignorance, we gotta straighten our act sooner or later. Money isnt everything ron dont be a slave to pushing and agenda for the devils dollar

I met Bob on several different occasions and he was the perfect gentleman to one and all and was always very well dressed.

And for some unknown reason I always confused him with Burt Goodrich who was also very well dressed and super polite.

When I was almost still a kid Burt tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I would make room for him to pass, "Pardon me, SIR, but can we pass by you?".

And I moved and he said, "Thank you!" and the 'doll' he was with said, "Thank you from me too! Come up and see me some time!"

Actually she didn't really say that to me .... but she said it many times, so I don't have to DROP her name here and be accused of something I would hate to be accused of by you accusing types of GetBig accusers.
