Current HW champ Wlad Klitschko walking down the street and no ones even looking at him never mind surrounding him, pointing, asking for autographs, etc.
In Tysons day he could nt walk down any street anywhere and not be mobbed.
-
I'm pretty sure overeem or rodriguez or who the fuck else in mma can walk down the street and no one would care.
Randy Couture or Chuck Lidelll would get recoginized most likely for being in the movies than an actual fighter.
-
he'd get mobbed in germany. i'm sure.
boxing is far from dead. ppv doesn't help though for street recognition from the general public :-\
-
Whos cares fames a game for bitches.
If your an actual success women can tell by the way you walk.

With all the money he's been making i'm sure he couldn't care less.
If i was in his shoes, i'd be happy if people didn't come up to me for autographs while i'm trying to do my normal chores.
-
im not talking about being him im talking about the sport, few years back everyone knew who the HW champ was, now no one knows and no one cares. :-[
-
Yes. And what happens when Big Money Jay Cutler takes the streets ?
Yes. People stop him asking for taking a pic, to touch his biceps etc.
-
Slightly off topic but I see Amir Khan looks like he's getting his wish for a rematch against Lamont Peterson - the WBA have ordered it.
I hope Khan gets destroyed in his own backyard this time.
-
Yeh guess all that bitching paid off for "Amir"
-
Because they're BORING!!!!!!!!!! Mike even said it himself.
Excellent fighters but boring as fuck.
-
^This. klitschko brothers are great fighters. They just don't have any charisma being cold and serious E.Euros. Also, they're not American.

That's why Manny Pacquiao is one fight away from breaking Mike Tyson's record for the most number of seven-figure pay-per-view (PPV) events in boxing.

He's talking in general. Outside of Manny and Floyd, no one draws even close to those two.

Boxing always been that way, one or two name carries the sport ,Tyson in the 80's, Chavez in the 90's ,Oscar DH 2000.......etc , right now there are guys that you have never heard of before making 2-3 mill a fight.

Eh, I don't think that's what he meant.

boxing is alive and well.
most athletes in general are not recognized in the US unless somebody points it out and that somebody usually follows the sport really well.
True story..I was in Houston's in coral gables once for lunch random Wednesday about 5 yrs ago with a lady friend. Saw this guy looking my way like I knew him while we were eating...we made eye contact a few times..felt gay as hell because I felt I did know him from somewhere but I couldn't put my finger on it...I kept telling my friend this guy keeps looking at me...etc..felt weird as hell.....then after damn near 15 minutes of this he was leaving heading down my isle, some guy walks up and shakes his hand then it hit me...it was Alex Rodriquez.
Guy didn't even look the same as on television. Gave him the "what up" head nod. I told him he looked bigger on TV, we laughed about the gay stares, shook his hand and that was it. The chick I was with was flipping the fuck out though.

Ratings suggest otherwise. I don't have the official ratings, but compared to recent UFC PPV's boxing is doing as well or better than the UFC ratings/PPV buyrate wise (HBO/Sho).

Current HW champ Wlad Klitschko walking down the street and no ones even looking at him never mind surrounding him, pointing, asking for autographs, etc.
In Tysons day he could nt walk down any street anywhere and not be mobbed.
and when mayweather walks into a club?
-
Only thing it proves is that American fans don't care about boxing when the champ is not American.

its New York for christs sake, Elvis could be walking down the street hand in hand with John Wayne, Babe Ruth and Adolf Hitler and no one would notice, people are too busy making sure they dont get their I Phone robbed by some spook walking down the street.
-
I think the greedy promoters have ruined boxing by not allowing great fights to occur (mayweather and pacman). It's akin to something like the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers, while both are football teams, would not play against one another because they are in different leagues.
-
had the same conversation earlier tonight, all of the personalities are gone, Tyson, Bruno, Eubank. No one is interesting.
im not talking about being him im talking about the sport, few years back everyone knew who the HW champ was, now no one knows and no one cares. :-[
-
nobody gives a fuck who you are in NY thats why stars move there, theres too many people too notice.

i see you are trying to take nails' space while he is away. BIG ASS FAIL!
-
Klitschko might be a boring fighter, but he's still great in absolute terms. Who does he need to fight to prove it? He beat the hell out of Lennox Lewis.

Boxing is only "dying" in the US because their are no great US heavyweights right now. Talented Heavyweights are the class everyone wants to see fight. As exciting as Pacquiao and Flyod are and as much money and attention they draw, they still are stigmatized by being small guys.
-
the whole point of boxing is to do damage and take as little as possible isn't it?
boxing isn't dead.
-
Havent been on here for a while been lurking etc GH15 rn harris is a girl layme norton etc but just got home after a great night drunk tonight and i know exactly wot ure sayin but just watched this and it reminded me why i fell in love with boxing in the first place when i was 10. Stick ure mma up ure ass
-
I have been a boxing fan all my life, watching Ali as a kid and Tyson as a young man. They were superstars and were mobbed everywhere they went anywhere in the world. We haven't had a heavyweight like that in a long time.
Interestingly, when we had Forrest Griffin here last year for FitX, he was stopped and recognised everywhere we went, even at the Melbourne zoo which was mostly families. Surprised me a bit really, how popular he was.
-
^they just thought he was an escaped monkey.

Yeah and Snooki is more popular than the Williams sisters , all part of generation nothingness.

Yes totally correct.
Theres due an american saviour - ali 60's, tyson late 80's/early 90's, the next bus will be along very soon. and it will reignite the american public, everything goes in cycles within 5 or 10 years either way.
Basicaly whoever this guy is will realise that if hes gonna be good enough he will make alot more money and become alot more famous than a baskeball or american football player
-

Dont worry - it will happen! can u imagine these big american kids who are hard cases now coming up watching rocky(yes timeless) that 1 of these will make it. i live in the north west uk and we have shit loads of boxing gyms mma gyms etc, ure not telling me that if somebody has got it from a young age isnt gonna find a gym in chicago, detroit, etc.
It will be a bit like love, he wont find it, it will find him

He couldn't do that in most european countries, trust me. Problem is, the US always thinks the world evolves around them, when in fact noone is giving a shit about you but yourself. ;D
Like mentioned before, a lotta soccer superstars known by billions of people around the world and worth hundreds of millions $ could walk down the streets in the US completely unrecognized.
-
Er im not American, i also dont think the HW champ needs to be American but i think he needs a personality. I think Britains due to produce a HW destroyer ala Tyson,Liston, Foreman.
-
The heavyweight champion of the world - the baddest man on the planet - it will always be exactly that - and will always return to boxing.
Outside a handful of redneck assholes who are obsessed with constantly walking around in tapout tshirts showing how hard they are, nobody gives a rats arse about mma, and never will.

totally disagree...the money is unsatisfying in the end without the recognition as well..you want people to make a fuss over you everywhere you go because it shows you have status.....the Heavyweight Division in boxing is soooo dead...the Klitchko brothers have no charisma at all..no one gives a fuck about them
