He still looked better in '93.
I don't know what he did to prep for that show, but his conditioning was probably on-par with Dorian's from the '92 O. In some poses, Ken looked like he'd morphed from liquid metal into solid steel. It was nuts!
He still looked amazing at the '96 spring shows and that year's NOC. I'm not sure when he decided to stuff his delts and arms full of oil and shit after that point, 'cause he didn't need to. Had he duplicated his ASC or Olympia form in '98, he would've won the show since the judges were too fucking dumb to recognize how awesome Ronnie was 'til it was too late.
-
Possibly most "all drugs" competitor of all time. Still awesome though.
Can't believe ppl give him #1 spot genetically and call Heath narrow. They have the same damn clavicles!
-
underrated.

Awesome physique but so much oil!!!!

the man was a God plain and simple, he reminds me of Deion Sanders, hes such an asshole that you want to hate him but hes such a fucking God like physical specimen that you have to respect it, just look at the fucking build on the guy. :o

Heath is a poor mans Flex Wheeler.

phil has the same baller mentality as flex wheeler, buys the same shit, just has more money to work with since jay got him early in the game and hooked him up. if ronnie was prime mr o, phil would be doing the same sizeup shit flex did to catch ronnie, so he could get his escalade, bentley and other BS. (http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTRfs7EEQeVcqZY0ALf7SYxm7xxbRZAnupP1oZMz6JIk_C88nl9BsU_FPF0) no, i'm saying.

lol, you fucking guy clown, none of them have pro sports money, they finance everything to the hilt and then deal with the repurcussions when their "careers" are over with, you spooks will never understand how to SAVE money and make it work for you.

those yrs he oiled the crap out of his arms and delts ,,they looked full and pumped without even posed,,,he let his legs go down a bit they were feathered insane in early ninties and his condition blurred a bit as he got heavier ,,then he scaled back towards the end 98/99/00 and he was arms and small torso ..one of the greats at one time.

lol, this guy is one in a billion bodybuilders, there isnt ONE White man besides Dorian who could beat him and even Dorian never faced him after 1995 when he was at his biggest.

he won a lot of shows and he placed 2nd few times in mro ,well the ninja thing sidetracked him and when he faced coleman it was too late,,he wasn't quite the flex as in mid 90's..in the 90's he is probably the most talked about bber genetic wise as the 'one'.

phil heath has way better genetics.
his back is just as defined but much wider. His glutes and hams are lightyears ahead of fat booty flex. His arms delts are better and more conditioned. He has a flow to his physique sure but genetics isnt just flow and insertions. Conditioned muscle, the fullness, the size it can attain etc all come into play. For example ronnie coleman had much better genetics then flex yet asthetically flex shits in his mouth.

true,,heath is blown up version with thickness i agree,,his legs are really good and seperated fr to back..all this narrow stuff about him didn't stop him from winning mro ,,muscle hangs off that so called narrow frame pretty well...

Couple of rare ones here iceman, prefer like 90% others here his 1992-93 Vintage, in 98 clear he was Loading up on the oil, his arms were always Ridiculously large even in 1992 why in the world he would put oil in them is Ridiculous if he needed oil anywhere it was in his CHEST witch was NEVER a strong point anyway, and by "Enlarging" his Arms this showed that weakness up more and more his arms and delts in 99 looked absolutely silly @ the Olympia so fake it wasnt funny in 1992 @ the U.S.A and in 1993 he was Unbelievable his shape and Aesthetics were the bench-mark and perhaps STILL the bench mark now in 2012.

Flex all time best shape was Ironman Arnold 93, he was around 219lbs and besides yates 93 would have beaten anyone, yates 93 has never been beaten, but Flex 93 Ironman arnold was a good second,he never found close to that shape again.

I have tons of pics from the Ironman Pro 1993 where Flex looks unreal. I would post them but I am not very good at scanning pictures.

Fixed, Melvin Anthony is a poor man's Flex Wheeler

Flex was a very different bodybuilder when DRY. That seemed to be the biggest thing for him- could he get dry? A dry to the bone flex wheeler NEVER lost. His natural genetic shape was just hard to imagine, hard to see, he had to be bone dry to get the full effect. When he was on, he was top 3 all time easily. Not for size, not for mass, but for the perfect balance of everything all at once, including a flow to his body that no one has ever been able to come close to. One in a billion genetics, as has been said.

He was dry when he was lighter...anything above 220, and he was hit or miss (97 Arnold he was 224, and still had watery lower back, glutes, and hams)

I liked Flex`s look when he was an amateur.
Great pro until he started abusing SEO..............which he still does today and looks like a moron.

He's got a second pair of biceps on his forearms.. that's insane.
-
I liked Flex`s look when he was an amateur.
Flex 93 as everyone says, was something else
But the jump he made from his 89/90 shape to 93 was incredible, the back, legs, tight waist, huge delts and arms, good chest. Striated striations!
Thereafter, as you said, too much seo..

In terms of freakiness, yes. But, Flex had better taper in that pose, better abs, intercostals, serratus, it was the sum of the whole...
-

True, but as I said, Flex was much better in his rookie year. He did get a little bigger (I don't believe for a second all that bullshit about him adding 30+ lbs.), but he lost a shitload of cuts in the process.
-
yeah, his arms and delts were so oiled up they looked awful by that point.
in 1993 he was unreal and would have been Mr. O. had he dialed it in for the Olympia that year.
he was noticably down in conditioning at the 93 O. as compared to the 1993 Arnold Classic

89/90 flex as stated was good but still green,,,when he won the usa in 92 it might have been one of the best national level amateur builds to get on stage,,his side chest shot from that show was sick ,,his hamstrings went from his side knee all the way up like tom princes ,,he had pro polish on stage then and well 93 rest is history.

99 dick move
Ha-ha-ha...
I love it!
It was a dick move, but that was a facet that made it interesting; you had guys with personality.
There aren't a whole lot of ways to make a male beauty pageant very compelling.
I still remember watching that show on ESPN.
This is the only clip I could find, and unfortunately, it ends before FW does his final little "sore loser" dance.
But, look at the smirk on his face prior. He just "knew" he had it in the bag.
Then, there was Ronnie with his tired, paradigmatic act of forced overemotional display, which became old after his first win the year before.
Nonetheless, good TV:

He wasn't as good, but I still don't think his ASC shape could've touched Dorian. Dozzer would still win way too many of compulsories for Flex to win.
His best shot was in '98, and that's largely because the judges didn't pay Ronnie enough attention at first. The scorecard was close, but I think Ronnie kicked his ass.
-
Heath is no Wheeler....His obliques are getting out of control This will be a problem as he continues to put on size...Or maybe not, it is the IFBB.

Flex had the best physique ever !
Although Big Ron was the best bodybuilder ever.

:o
Best FDB in the history of bodybuilding hands down. Flex has the shape bodybuilding is all about. Not the biggest but he didn't need to be!! Looked amazing there, absolutely amazing.

What a jackass. Kenny always said he adopted a stage persona because he was Mr. Insecure or some shit, but the fact as I see it is, he pranced around Venice like he was the king shit as soon as he won the '92 USAs. Then, the zap really went to his head when he won his first few pro shows. The guy literally SWAGGERED around then, like he was untouchable.
Then, Dorian kicked his ass six ways from Sunday at the Olympia, and he went and broke his fucking neck by driving too fast in a car he was stupid to blow his money on.
Anybody watched some of his training videos, like after he won the '93 ASC? I'm not sure if it was Mits filming or what, but it was very MTV-like -- jerky camera movements and a bunch of unprofessional bullshit transition shots (e.g., from the floor to the ceiling, then back to Flex and company). At the outset of that video, Flex walked in, introduced himself as blah-blah times champion, trainer Charles Glass (it sounds like "me, trainer BLAST), and "Rico Mc-Clint-ton! Hahahaha. Sorry 'bout dat, asshole.
Then they train "back" and the joker makes some comment to Levrone about knocking on doors. Almost sheepishly, "Flex" says really fast, "I don't knock on doors guy, I knock doors over," and then he initiates a "mighty" cable row set with lots of grunting and whimpering, only to quit well shy of failure.
Levrone owned his mind after whipping po widdle Flex, house negro, at the '91 Nationals. Flex could huff and puff all he wanted, but he knew Levrone would own him on each and every lift. That's why I enjoyed seeing Kenny lose the '96 ASC to K-LO. I think Flex deserved to win -- and with relative ease -- but fuck him.
That's probably about what the IFBB judges thought -- put the cocky SOB in his place. That's crooked as fuck, but in a way, if all of what I said's true, I cannot completely blame them. They're still bastards for putting personal feelings ahead of a proper evaluation, but they did turn around and give Flex lots of titles thereafter. In those cock-sucking judges' minds, maybe everything balanced out :|

Flex was 2nd in 91, and one could argue that he may of deserved it...and had he turned Pro, he'd look like the 92 version of himself, thereby giving him room to grow....even still Mike Matarazzo didn't really pan out to well (okay he was top 10 a few yrs)

my take on Flex's attitude is that he was a VERY skinny youngster, i saw a picture of him in his book where he looked all of 110 pounds at the same height he is now and from what i've seen in the black male community this type of bodytype is made fun of and picked on by not only other males but black females as well, as he grew muscles with the weights, needle and food his bully side kicked in, this isnt any criticism of him as a bodybuilder, he was easily the second or third best ever but it explains his attitude.

Might I add, Flex sold 10 whole copies of that book.

He was insecure, combined that with being shy, and that child molestation (by grown females), and losing fights, you get FLEX..an alternate personality...a superhero. But, it was all an act.
-
I trained at Golds the same time he Cormier and Rico did, he carried on like a bully with those he could , the guys attitude was off the scale, forget the ninja story and his take on his fighting skills, he had no heart and backed down from conflict with serious individuals on more than one occasion, Flex with his ecto meso genetics needed a huge amount of androgens to hang at that level and there is no doubt this contributed to him being one of the biggest ass holes you could ever hope to meet. Saying that the guys physique was amazing especially in his rookie year, my three best shapes for that era are
1 Doz 93 untouchable
2 Flex 93 Ironman Arnold shape and overall flow close to best ever, would have been great to see him at the olympia next to yates in this sort of shape.
3 Leverone 93 at Olympia, his skin was like paper and his physique was so balanced
Im no big Ron, he has the most muscle mass of any guy ever in the sport but his shape structure and balance are genetically inferior to the guys above at their peak.
-

Exactly what he said in his autobiography, FlexAppeal.

Don't know if he smashed it in 89, but he did in 90 and 91, there was an interview where they touched on it
Titus probably learnt from him
Imagine how many trophies bob chic wouldve smashed ! Took him a while to turn pro in a very strong npc era, at least he was a class act about it
