Got lots of friends with pits and my two other dogs love her. I have the next two days off work for lots of cuddles and little bouts of training. Not sure how big she'll get and want her very well behaved.

Actually I'm a twinky Thai ladyboy. First dog is a 13 year old black lab/sheppard, then a 3 year old chihuahua/dachshund. They get along great with other dogs and she'll have a pack to learn from.
We know someone who fosters pits specifically so it wasn't something we rushed into. We did our homework and were checking out breeders when a friend had to get rid of her. She was an impulse purchase and we didn't want to see her go to a shitty home.
There's a blizzard warning so I don't think my friend would have much luck unloading her to a good home. Going to grab some candles, a flash light and charge the laptops in case we lose power.

What can you expect from an APBT? First and foremost, memorize the following: THE GOLDEN RULE OF PIT BULL OWNERSHIP- NEVER TRUST YOUR PIT BULL NOT TO FIGHT!!!!! This breed is descended from pit dogs one way or another, and, given the right circumstances, most Pit Bulls will fight and against any other breed, they will win (you really don't want to see that!). Scared yet? You should be. Remember, as the owner of a Pit Bull everything you or your dog do will affect all members of the breed and their families. Pit Bull owners have to be extra vigilant 24/7, period. You need to be receptive, have strong leadership, and be able to read canine body language to recognize signs of tension between housemates. You need to be prepared to separate the dogs if tensions develop. You need to know when your dog may become aggressive and you need to have control of your dog under any circumstances.
Sound like a lot of work and hassle? It is. So, what's the payoff? The payoff is: A well-raised pit bull of proper temperament is the most loyal and loving dog in the world, bar none. This is a dog that truly LOVES people, especially children. Pits are notorious clowns, and will Always make you laugh, even in spite of yourself. They are intelligent, and will often "invent" games to keep themselves amused. They seem to subsist on love and attention, and will do almost anything for a little special "loves n hugs" time. They tolerate the rough play of children, loving every minute of it, and, although poor "guard dogs" for property, they will willingly give their lives to save the people they love. Thousands of responsible owners have dedicated themselves to this breed for it's positive traits and willingly deal with the negatives.
T0 SUMMARIZE THE PROPER PIT BULL TEMPERAMENT
1. Pit Bulls are often dog-aggressive to one extent or another (this often shows up at or near sexual maturity). A dog that was previously non-dog aggressive may "turn-on" and suddenly doesn't like other dogs of the same sex, or, for that matter, any dogs at all, even housemates they have been raised with. Adult Pit Bulls should NEVER be left alone with other dogs and require proper supervision.
2. Pit Bulls may exhibit intense "prey drive", leading them to "stalk" small animals such as cats, rats, chickens, livestock, or other pets.
3. Pit Bulls are precocious and incomparable escape artists, who will often seem to squirt right out of a supposedly secure yard or enclosure. When coupled with # 1 and # 2, you can see why a responsible Pit Bull owner is a vigilant pit bull owner.
4. Pit bulls are intelligent, and most enjoy training, if it is done properly. This makes them excellent prospects for dog sports such as agility, obedience, weight pull, and Frisbee competitions.
5. Pit Bulls tend to LOVE people. All people. This makes them a poor choice for a "guardian breed". Most of them are simply too friendly to protect a house against strangers. A Pit Bull that shows unprovoked human aggression (puppy play nips do NOT count) is showing BAD temperament and in most cases should be put to sleep. Such a dog should obviously NEVER be bred under any circumstances. The breeding of dogs with bad temperaments is one of the largest problems the breed faces today and fuels the fire of breed specific legislation.
7. Pit bulls tend to be very "soft" with their family, meaning that they are eager to please their humans. They should not have to be "shown who's boss", but will thrive under "positive leadership". A Pit Bull of proper temperament is a devoted and loving family member, inspiring immense loyalty to the breed. You will often hear a Pit Bull's owner tell you that after owning one, they will never own any other breed.

Spot on post. I've owned many pits, some adopted and some bully blue pits (gotti, razors edge blood lines), some I trimmed their ears and some not and I've noticed cropping the ears helps immensely in terms of preventing ear infections.
Heals quickly and much less painful and invasive as neutering or spaying a dog.

Wife laid out an old carpet and ratty blankets for the pup. Then her nursing books and homework got scattered around. I'm a clean freak with OCD. If we didn't just get a puppy I'd have a brutal meltdown guaranteed. ;D

Here's another couple snaps. She's peeing outside well, or on her pee pad but I feel bad that there's so much snow outside. Going to make some crock pot stew, tidy up get my maids to tidy up, then off to make some vet appointments and buy primo puppy chow. My dogs' food costs an arm and a leg, but gold keeps going up and my oil rigs are keeping me ridiculously wealthy in this downed economy. ;D

A buddy brought his 1 year old bluenose pit over tonight. Amazing how quickly she matched her level of playfulness and temperament. They're going to be great running and hiking buddies. I'll feel a lot safer knowing they're both trail running with my wife vs the weiner dog LOL
Funny thing is that my old roommates had pits too so my weiner thinks he's one as well. Biggest little tough guy, especially in his biker jacket and studded collar. He must post on Getbig when I'm not at home. 8)

Last pic has my dog's ass, his name is Buddy. He used to run with my mom 20km a day for more than half his life. His hips are bad now and his food and medication... lets say I could buy a couple kits of GH at the Canadian prices for what I pay each month. That doesn't include vet bills either... but he's saved me at times where humans wouldn't have cared two shits, even family members. I feel blessed to have grown up with this beast. My family and I joke that he's the best $40 we ever spent! Before he got too old to take on walks (can't take him to his favorite trail anymore! :() he would mentor other dogs and teach them how to work as a pack. We used to let them off leash on old logging roads and amazing trails like no one here's probably ever seen. Holler his name and a few seconds later you see a streak of bushes rustling and he's right by your side. He's saved us from cougars and bears and is definitely an angel. One of the main reasons why I never offed myself when I had some extremely challenging life events too, I love him more than life itself.

Pitbulls are great. I own 2(one of which was a rescue) and often foster 1 or 2 others. You have to rotate them, though, as they'll just get into a fight. A pit bull fight is very nasty. I carry my break stick more often than my wallet because it is the only way to seperate the dogs when they fight.

Most dogs attack pits, not the other way around. Been socializing mine well with other well behaved poochies.
