Do these idiots piss you off too? Tonight one of these idiots seated shoulder press then dropping them from shoulder height. Felt like going over tapping him on the forehead and breaking his ankles. If you have to drop them they are too HEAVY!
-
Should've, could've, would've.
-
Obviously the only Power this Pollock has is in the penis polishing department.
-
....If you have to drop them they are too HEAVY!
You sound like one of the older women that work at the gyms- they say that shit all the time lol
Anyways, I disagree completely, I mean, yeah if your being a dbag and slamming weights etc and acting retarded then yeah, your an idiot,
But for me, personally, and I'm not even strong at all, and many other fellas here can attest, if your lifting good weight, you don't want to tear a fucking rotator cuff... for me, its so much easier / more "natural" / less pain to drop the weights, then CAREFULLY putting them down like they're made out of fucking glass.... The too heavy thing is complete and utter bullshit, I hate when people say that..I mean yeah, we can CAREFULLY PLACE 100 lb dumbbells down no problem, but who the fuck wants to do that, or at least, have some control over them
Just my two cents!!
-
We get lots of DB's wearing man-kini's in our gym dropping shit all the time. When you go to the locker room (its under the weight pit) it sounds like a heard of elephants.

This^^^

Only one time I was seriously pissed. We had brand new heavy dumbbells in our small gym. Some twink started to do shrugs with one pair of them. Lifted them from the ground, did a few shrugs and then of course dropped them. This went on and on and on. When someone is douchebag enough not to take that half a second from his life to put them down...

Try benching dumbells over 120lbs without letting them drop on the floor.
If you don't drop weights that means you're a weak bitch.
Someone post that branch warren vid where he's tossing weights everywhere

Floor is made out of rubber at my gym. One could drop a 100lb db from a shoulder height and it'd just bounce off the ground a few times silently..

Thats not the point. Point is if you have to drop it to unload it....it's too heavy and shouldn't be using the weight.
-
Depends on the exercise - before you get injured you better drop the weight. Though this mostly concerns olympic style lifting.
-
I am so weak it doesnt even matter, I still dont drop em.
-
I would hazard a guess that polish power has touched more poles than a scaffolder playing tag on a busy day in warsaw.

my power blocks go up to 125 (stage 3) and i shoulder press them and put them down carefully without issue...
unilateral strength is meaningless when compared to total body strength. the ability to correctly manipulate, position AND lift weights is what moving iron is all about IMO
-
All gyms would be a much better place if everyone put there weights back to where they belong, trainers understood that they are just employess and dont own the place, and everyone does a courtesy flush in the bathroom.
and female celebrities that work out there leave their panties out for you to sniff :-X
:D

i drop weights especially on the presses because i don't want to pull a muscle. i go to failure and not a good scenario for slowly lowering weights you fag

This. If it's something that needs to be dropped, then fair enough. DB Flat Bench going very heavy is a good example. DB Incline or Seated, not so much.
A lot will do it then have a sly look around and see who is giving them attention. The cunts.

Almost cut my hair, happened just the other day
It was gettin` kinda` long
Great song Dutch!

DroppingPlates Weights is really annoying....
I'm not like a "construction worker" (sorry Che), I only drop dumbbells after finishing a set of decline presses (sorry Musclecenter)

When I used to go to golds years back it never bothered me because those bastards were moving some serious weight...everybody had power even the broads.
The gym closed and I started going to ballys type gyms.....it started to irritate me then because these clowns had no business even trying to lift shit so heavy. Nobody there was even of decent size. Made no sense and never will.
I miss that golds gym man even though the owner hauled ass and stole our money lmao.

lol.....hahahahha.....I love that Branch Warren video.......they were dropping plates everywhere....at onne time, one of the plates almost hit his foot.....that would have been truly hardcore to see his face if that plate landed on his toe.......

says the fat ugly guy haha

some gold's are perfect to have the type of no-nonsense workout.....I know this Gold's in DC where the weeight room is in the basement and they don't give a fuck who drop weights or not, but there is a sign on the wall that says "for those of you who drop dumbbells, just be aware that a fee will be imposed on your monthly payment".......lol
-
lol @ lifting weights ::)
-
yes, the dropping wieghts crowd is usually the wifebeater and sunglasses crew. They want all the gym hotties to see their bad ass 35lb shoulder presses.
note: this is also the 2 in. ROM crowd
-
Flat DB press is the only time I drop the db's...just can't sit up with all that extra weight. :(

I do that too. Im talking about the studs that will drop them from the top of DB Curls / shoulder presses etc.

DB Inclines for me,but I get them as close to the floor as possible before I let them go.
There`s no excuse to throw dumbells, plates,or to ever drop a barbell.

I love that environment..the dirty, gritty gym. 45s with rust on them, chalk stations, belts tossed in a pile in the corner by the squat racks, head nods with no words, the crowd around the guy getting him psyched for his massive ass dead lift attempt, cracks in the leather duck taped, earning respect by lifting hard and heavy even alone and not missing a day for months....bringing a fking tear to my eye.

Man I'm just glad I was there to catch the tail end of that era. I'm only 34, but started lifting with the old school cats at young age. I got so used to that environment. I workout in my garage now. Only got account for the gym when I travel now. Even then I just cardio and leave. Very depressing environments....no brotherhood now...no aggression.
the young bros are lost in there with no guidance now
-
I drop weights just to cause the manager at Planet Fitness to have another hissy fit.

;D You should start like tossing a bunch of little 5lb plates on the floor and yell allot. That should stir it up. ha ha ha ha 8)
-
This reminds me of a story for years back. I was training with my bud and we were doing a heavy chest cylce of db inclines, cable crosses, and finished off with dips. My bud went til failure plus 3 forced reps on the inclines to start, and after this set he dropped the bells from shoulder height. So the owner's son came over to us and shouted at him not to do that again. Anyways, my bud just a kept on pushing through this heavy cylce and completely ignored him ;D And guess who the owner's son was? Bob Lorimer, son of Jim Lorimer, this cat who co-runs the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio.

only places in the US now that are hardcore where you will be pushed are anywhere there are decent amount of lifters/pros, prison or a high school or college training facility.
Everything else is lifter friendly/social hour after work. Its ok just not my cop of tea. Let me stop my bitchin.
-
if he is going to failure and can't push out anything more why not? i mean better drop them down then hurt yourself

At my college, the guy who ran the gym didn't allow hats. Well, I was known for my Kangols, so I said "eff that!"

Probably school enforced.....I do remember in high school and college they didn't allow athletes or students to lift with any hats other than school appeal type.

Exactly. I remember back to when I started. All the older lifters who weren't tossing weights etc. Lifting wasnt an ego driven thing back then it seemed.
Nowadays you have young high school "lifters" who come in and act like dipshits.
I miss the old days .

True man they had no ego...as a matter of fact, they pushed one another. I remember like yesterday when I first hit 205 as a teen trying to get stronger ,how they welcomed me to the club lol.
I'd watch them lift as a teen, they would go hard then tell me to get my ass under the bar, they added more weights, got in my mind, told me it was only weight, almost like they saw what I didn't see. I was a great athlete but never touched a weight until like 15....those dudes in the gym, the dudes in the hood...etc pushed me.
They took pride in seeing me level up. As a freshman I was big as the seniors on the football team....I ran the ball extra hard for those bitches lol.
The good old days man.
-
yep. I'm about your age.. I'm 33.
I respected the older fellas in there. I gave them respect.
You don't see that these days. Just young wise-ass punks.
-
I like to drop my weights towards people wearing crocs or flip flops in the gym :)
-
Cocktrain, its easy to stand up from seated presses with the 120's....can you sit up from flat bench with them? :D
-
Cocktrain, its easy to stand up from seated presses with the 120's....can you sit up from flat bench with them? :D
Sure. Just reverse how you started your set and let them touch your knees, and then let them pull you back into a seated position. ???
-

oops. my bad. I misread that original statement. Thought poster said shoulder presses.
I stand corrected and apologize.
-
Dumbbell of peace ::)
-
I use the biggest DB's in the gym and can set mine down without making a sound for seated DB presses
Same for inclines. I lift and set them down myself after sitting up with them.

I would hazard a guess that polish power has touched more poles than a scaffolder playing tag on a busy day in warsaw.

Go ahead and film yourself doing this for us so we can see it, cause in all my years I've never seen anyone using significant weight do this from the flat bench.
-
What would you say is significant weight?
-
Dropping weights after like flies or shrugs or curls or whatever is just stupid, but trying to gently set heavy dumbbells down on the floor or back into the "seated-on-your-knees" position from a benching position is an invitation to hurt yourself. If tits are offended by this then maybe they can go lift in the "Women Only" area of the gym.
-
Everyone in my gym who does flat or incline DB gets them up themselves and down themselves without dropping them.
-

How is what I explained difficult!?
-
How is what I explained difficult!?
I dunno, how do you go about putting the db's back onto your legs? You just drag 130+lb db's down your body? Or do you just drop them on your knees from an arm extended postion ???
What would you say is significant weight?
I would say for most of the people I see right around 100#'s is going to be significant, which for the record I can still get back up with...
You press 130+ dbs right? Post up a video of you sitting back up from flat bench with them so I can see how it's done, cause everyone I have ever seen do them has always dropped them.

Ursus and dr chimps seem to think it's quite easy, I've never seen it so I am very interested in how it's done.

i don't know why anyone would honestly bother though, especially if it's heavy weight and there's even the slightest chance of injury, like you say. absolutely no one cares at all that someone is dropping dumb bells 6 inches from the mat anyways, if they do then they are probably one of those homos that stare at you during your sets and care more about what other people are doing in the gym than themselves.
-

Yeah that sounds very interesting. I'm all ears

What happened to Ursus and the good Dr ??? Either one agree to do a video for us?

i agree with you about the 6" rule... that's just putting them down... dropping is something else... like flipping them of your chest after press as opposed to lowering then "releasing" them close to the floor
-
What happened to Ursus and the good Dr ??? Either one agree to do a video for us?
What happened to me was that I live in a different time zone went to bed and went to work the next day. I can press over 130s on inclines but my gym only has 120's atm. Will that be good enough for you?
I am amazed that you find this difficult or tricky to do. Once you press them you just sit up with them and then stand up and set them on the ground like a deadlift.
My next Chest day is Monday.
-
Guys that drop weights are attention whores pure and simple. They grab dumbbells that are to heavy for them and proceed to do half range of motion presses then drop the weights so everyone can see what a big man they are.
-

Cripes. Get your panties unwadded. Watch how Ronnie falls back on the bench with the dbs coming off his knees. When you finish your set, reverse that -ie. twist the dbs and let them fall towards your knees, which you've now again brought up. The weight pulls you back up. I then sit/stand and put dbs on top off those on the bottom row of racked dbs. Saves a lot of wear and tear on shoulders.
-
Ursus and dr chimps seem to think it's quite easy, I've never seen it so I am very interested in how it's done.
it is very easy Chaos. it is just a momemtum transfer. you lift your knees up to the weights. then just lean forward . the weights momentum actually rocks you into a standing position. there is virtually no effort.
-
And it helps to have your arms pretty straight then sitting back up.
-
This is really a classic.... 8)

Imagine Musclecenter, tipping on his shoulders, "Don't dlop the leights, mistel >:("
-
No your the idiot, if you can lift them you can put them down, I incline press160's and shoulder press 150's and put them down lightly.
you are an idiot
that is all
-
What kind of stupid logic is this, if you dont drop them your weak???? I incline press 160's and shoulder press 150's and put them done lightly. If you can put them done then your strong. Dropping weights just is anoying hard on the weights and the floor.
Try benching dumbells over 120lbs without letting them drop on the floor.
If you don't drop weights that means you're a weak bitch.
Someone post that branch warren vid where he's tossing weights everywhere
-
If there's no one around I drop the dumbells if I'm doing heavy seated shoulder presses or flat dumbell presses. I'm extra careful if people are around. When I drop them I make sure they don't go far from me. I put my hands on them right away.
-
By dropping to you mean from shoulder height or just holding them at all times but dropping them?
-
The thread was started about people dropping weights from random heights, basically just letting go when they are finished. To the Pollock bragging about pressing the 160's and setting them down, first vids or I'm calling bullshit, this is getbig, not bbing.com, second setting the weights down from incline or seated press is easy, how do you sit up and set down the db's from a flat press without dropping them, this is the new question! :)
-
JUST TROW DA` FUCKING TINGS WHERE EVER YA` WANT!! ;D
-
Like hazbin said, its easy to move the dumbells back to your knees when you finish, the weight of the dumbell then pulls you up off the bench.Obviously you have to finish the set with the d/bells in the top position. All my d/bells are what i`ve made myself and welded and i train at home in the garage,so i didn`t like to have to drop the weights now and then,in case the d/bells broke. So i made myself 2 short benches that fit at the side of the regular bench at a 45%angle and if i can`t complete the rep and end up in the bottom position i just lower them to the short benches. Then i made myself a table out of 5 inch solid oak with the top at shoulder height to do d/bell shoulder presses,i lift the d/bells on,sit down on the seat, tip the bells back and they are in position. When i finish i just lean forward and put the d/bells back on the table top.

How strong are you in terms of DB's?
It is easy if you do it my way from day 1.

Nice idea espec as they are welded DB's
If I cant complete a rep I lower them to my chest and just sit up
-
I can`t believe Ursus that someone doesn`t know how to get back up from a d/bell bench,i was taught this the very first time i trained back in 1979.Watch this old guy to see what we mean.
-
Exactly how I do it though i can do it even if I fail a rep.
It is naturally and instinctly the easiest way to do it!
-

The benches cost me nothing to make,a neighbour was getting rid of his old fence posts and panels,so i cleaned them up and made the benches. The foam and the leather are off an old sette. The "thing" sat on the benches is something i made out of an old bike handle and fence post, its to add weights on to do triceps bench dips, instead of loading up plates on my legs.
-
Like I said, up to 100's I have no problem sitting up on a flat bench, but 120's+ and I just let them go.
I'll have to check that vid later on a comp. But I do have to say that you guys are in the minority that sit up from flat bench with big db's.
-

the majority don't use 120+
However it is all relative. 120 to me is liek 100 to someone else etc.
Dropping metal DB's is stupid and damages them
-
Just looked at some of the other videos of the old guy doing d/bell presses and found this one of him barbell benching at age 69.

Thats what i thought because in the UK the reds are 25kg,and the blues 20kg,but i`m assuming the reds must be 45lbs plates as he`s from the US.Impressive strength for any age.
-
Yea in the rest of teh world apart from USA reds are 25kg/55lbs blues are 20/44 yellows are 15/33 greens are 10/22 and the smaller ones are white I think

So we can expect an instructional video from Ursus next Monday on how to sit up with the 130# DB's? Somehow I've never managed to damage a DB by dropping it from a flat bench position....strange.

the only real issue i have and the only time i care is if someone is throwing weights around carelessly, especially if there are people nearby.
a lot of women are completely oblivious in the weight room and just walk right next to people pressing 300pounds like they are invisible and then subsequently getting the dumb bells dropped right next to them as they walk too close to the guy pressing. i don't really blame either of them entirely but if people are going to drop weights they need to at least make sure no one is around first, other than that, i couldn't care less since all real gyms have padded floors.

My gym only has 120's
Will that suffice?
And you want on a flat DB press?
-
That'll do Ursus, that'll do....do me one favor though, do it with the db's from the down position so I can see. Thanks, buddy. ;)
Assondicks...I had a dude one time sneak by the bench and hit the bar, luckily I only had 135 on it, but he caught an earful.
-
Wait....I thought you said you could press 130+db's? Anyway I'm interested to see how you do it.

What you mean the 'down position'
I can and have this is in another gym I used when mine was closed over the 12th July week. This was also about 2-3 years ago now I could do 10 reps after flat benching I am sure.

Just film from db pick up to putting them down. You'd also better show him the actual wt of the db's, too. Seems to be in a pissy mood, lately.

That was all well and good, but the Flex Wheeler drop and "oops, watch your feet" is soo much more entertaining...
-
Not a problem.
I am amazed he finds it hard to believe. I have a spotter lifting etc but 120's reasonably controlled on shoulders. I am sure on flat DB it would be much easier!
-
Lol @ dr chimps...a 120# db would crush him! ;D
I've never said it hard to believe, never said it impossible...I've only said its not as easy as you doofuses claim it to be.
Urs what I mean is at the end of your set, with the db's down at your chest, sit up.
Fair enough? I cannot move the 130's down my body to my knees from that position and I have no desire to hold them in the air and lift my knees up to them or whatever someone was trying to describe earlier.

I have never once had to think about it being a difficult task at all until you questioned it. It is no trickier than lifting a heavy bench press out or cleaning a barbell.
I will:
Lift them up from the group
Rep out until absolute failure
Bring the DB's to my chest
Sit up
Stand up
Set the DB's down silently
All whilst not making a song and dance about it. More so I will do it after my bench pressing and incline BB pressing.
Deal?
-
Chaos what do you DB shoulder and DB chest press?
Also do you get both lifted to you?
-
I have no issues shoulder pressing or incline pressing and resetting the weights, I do not get a lift off for either, nor do I for flat.
-
What weight do you use?
-
Not a problem.

Give me a break, you had a spotter.
-
Yea I can clean both then sit down and press but I lose too many reps that way. So I get one handed to me.
-
Db shoulder presses could be 100-110's depending and incline could be up to 130's depending. But to be honest I've done my shoulder presses standing for awhile now so seated may not be accurate.
-
And I want to make it clear Ursus, I'm not trying to bash, maybe I can learn a technique from you because literally, everyone I have ever seen go over 100+DB has dropped them on flat bench, never seen anyone sit up with them.
-
Don't worry man I got that impression. You are dubious which is cool but not bashing. I have no problem taking a video.
-
strong pressing Ursus :)

Good set.........super strong!
-
When I started this I didn't specify height, he was seated dropping them from seated shodlder height so between 3 and 4 feet!
By dropping to you mean from shoulder height or just holding them at all times but dropping them?
-
Listen I don't have to prove my strength, I been lifting for 27 years and these weihjts are true and I'm clean 5 foot 6 and 220lb.
-

Ouch....
-
yeah, I'll keep dropping my weights thanks. there's no way I'm blowing a shoulder reverse curling 150+ down under tension.
If you have to move out the way of the rolling DBs then you were standing too close in the first place.

I bet you're massive!!!

Chaos this is how I do it. I videod them beside 70's at the end to show the difference. When seated at the end you can also set them on the ground one at a time easily also.
-
I love that environment..the dirty, gritty gym.
Getbig poetry right there.

I`m psyched! :)

Yes I am strangely aroused.

OK, that's how I normally do it, but when I get to the 120+ I just can't seem to bring them back down to my legs like that and I'm not about to injure myself just to avoid dropping them a few inches. Appreciate you taking the video though, cool deal.
As you say "cheers". :)

So I put forth the effort to try this today with the 130's, the left one slid off the side of my leg and ended up on the floor anyway, the right one landed on my leg as planned. Didn't even try with the 140's. :-[
-
just stick to what you do normally incase you get hurt unless you wnat to practise with lighter weights this every week.
-
Well like I said, normally I got to 100-110 and sit up that way, whatever reason with the 130+db's I'm just not coordinated enough. :(

What old guy? I just saw the chick in the blue shirt doing sldl with nice form....

Solid strength for any age, impressive as hell for 70! This old silverback is much stronger than he looks.
-
Not necessarily true. You just might need a spot. I regularly do 110lb dumbbell presses on the bench for 10. After that 10 I'm so exhausted that I would hurt myself trying to let them down ever so politely for pansies that complain about noise IN A FREEGIN GYM!!!!!
