Santorum's stone-age view of women

(CNN) -- Presidential candidate Rick Santorum is unhappy with last week's compromise over whether Catholic institutions should be required to cover contraception for their employees, arguing that birth control "shouldn't be covered by insurance at all." The issue, Santorum claims, is "economic liberty." But in the past, he has made his real objection clear, categorizing contraception as "a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be."
Taken with statements Santorum made in his 2005 book, "It Takes a Family: Conservatism and the Common Good," his opposition to contraception (as well as to abortion, even in the case of rape) seems part and parcel of a deep hostility toward efforts to empower women and enhance their status. He has shown nothing but contempt for what his book called the "radical" feminist "pitch" that "men and women be given an equal opportunity to make it to the top in the workplace." So perhaps it's not surprising that at the time of publication he did not list his wife as a co-author or contributor, although when asked last week about this and other comments on working mothers, he now says his wife wrote that part of the book.
Whichever member of the couple wrote the section on women, it is worth revisiting a couple of its points. Take the book's dismissal of programs to help impoverished single mothers improve their job prospects by returning to school: "The notion that college education is a cost-effective way to help poor, low-skill, unmarried mothers with high school diplomas or GEDs move up the economic ladder is just wrong." Or its claim that unnamed "surveys" have shown that educated professional women find it "easier, more 'professionally' gratifying, and certainly more socially affirming, to work outside the home than to give up their careers to take care of their children."

if THIS is the way they plan on sinking him - I dont think it works.
herman cain was "allegedly" boinking women left and right, and voters didn't care.
But "Rick said something which can be interpreted as old-fashioned in a book 7 years ago" - Much less impactful.
Newt was about as shitty as ANY dude can be to a sick woman - TWICE - leaving when they were tore up - and voters didn't care.

Dear God - no wonder this nation is fucked. We have a public sector employee getting paid way too much to teach a bullshit subject to a bunch of morons in college who are going to graduate far in debt and have no marketable skills.
Disgraceful.

I guess Romney will end up winning the primary in the end because he actually appears to be able to eat with a fork and a knife unlike the rest of the group who has ran this session.

As a Christian, I can understand wanting to ban contraception that kills a fertilized egg, but banning contraceptives that prevent the fertilization from happening makes no sense. It's based in un-Scriptural Catholic dogma.

Washington state (my home) is disgustingly hardcore left. Not like, say, just like liberal ideals more... were talking full on retard surpassing even California (who is most of Wa politicians role model state, they try and copy everthing Cali adopts and tries to push it more, its like theyre trying to out-liberal Cali).
Most people there are so ignorant they dont actually know what or why they believe the things they do - all they know is that Blue = good and just and Red=devil and wrong.
Its the most extreme politicial environment Ive ever had the misfortune to be around.
Whats ironic is that the majority of Washington leans center-right, but King Country and Olympia somehow speak for everyone in the state, and they push their "liberal ideals" on everyone else even when they lose the vote. If they lose, they just do it anyway and find a way to make it legal later. (Or dont in the case of Governor Gregoire)
Bottom line - You cannot take ANYTHING seriously that comes out of Seattle/Olympia. Those people live in a fantasy land and wont accept reality even when faced with facts - they just come up with their own explanation to justify whatever their belief is.

I hate Santorum but why does health insurance have to cover contraception ???

Because people want "FREE" stuff paid by someone else.
I want a hair transplant since i am bald - can I get obama to order the carriers to cover bosley treatments or hair club for men?

I'll happily pay more taxes for post-natal abortions for some of these people. Here's an idea, instead of making other people pay for your mistakes take some personal responsibility and keep your dick/vagina in your pants.
They are making this out to me some woman's rights bullshit issue, but say nothing about guys going around and fucking everything they see without a condom. If you fuck without a condom, it's on you to pay for whatever happens.
