Nice one. A part of me is still bonded to heavily distorted guitars.
It seems like all the talent in this genre goes to guitar and drums.
Those dudes are always in shape....

This is so funny if you haven't already seen it:
Also this one about the history of Black Metal in the Nordic countries was pretty good -.
Have been a metal fan since the age of 12, in 1982. Hard rock, traditional metal, thrash, death, black, whatever ... I like lots of groups in all substyles.
Some of my favourite bands:
Annihilator
Meshuggah
Pagan's Mind
Decapitated
Cannibal Corpse
Fates Warning
Savatage
Judas Priest
Ratt
Nocturnal Rites
Iron Maiden
I have the debut CD from Aeon playing as I type, actually! "God Gives Head In Heaven"!

Never thought I`d sound like my father, but that music sux dead donkey dick.
Never much liked the image thing with black. Some of the music was very inspired, but the movement as a whole reminded me of the 80s glam. Heavy makeup and pulling faces for the camera... but being eeevil
Been listening to alot of Tristania and goth metal in general recently. For more mainstream stuff I love Nightwish.
Not really up on the newer bands, but grew up on Slayer, early Metallica (first couple), MegaDeth, Venom, Motorohead, Maiden, Priest,Fates Warning, Hallows Eve, Leige Lord, Sacred Reich, etc... (All the late 80's stuff)..Thats regular metal for the most part. Death metal sounds like someone is about to get sacrificed.
Ratt?
Cool.
dillinger escape plan
hatebreed
slayer
dont know if any of these are "death metal" but i like them
surprised nobody has mentioned Dimmu Borgir.
I am very into jazz, and one of my friends who is a major jazzophile is a metalhead.
This is one of his favorite bands.
Missery index (formerly Dying Fetus)
I very much dig Dimmu, but just so you know, it's very popular to hate the band these days. Metal fans can be some of most trendy sheep anywhere in the world of music fandom, after all.
Sure it's LA pop metal, but the songwriting has always been very strong (especially when Crosby was alive and him and Juan were in the group), and the playing is VERY good. Uh, Warren DeMartini. Need I say more?
TOOL ;)Quivering puppet fag.
ARCH ENEMY:D I love these names, they are so extreme. Ah, the angst of youth.
BOLT THROWER
CARCASS
for the train
TOOL and KATATONIA for home alone with few cigarettes
Immortal.Sons of Northern Darkness is great.

Coincidentally, Horgh (the guy in the background) is definitely a getbigger.
Sons of Northern Darkness is great.
I have never gotten into this genre of music, but why do people hate Dimmu Borgir?
The thing I don't like about metal is all the different categories and sub-categories.
I liked Maiden when I was 10 years old mainly due to their awesome album covers, and then I liked Slayer's Reign in Blood because liking Slayer would scare the hell out of a nun at my school.
Idiots dislike Dimmu Borgir because they make a commercialized version of Black Metal, which is one of the most underground styles of music in the world. Alot of black metal fans are obsessed with upholding a dark and kvlt image for their music. Sometimes shitty production and simple repetitive songs are seen as more "true" than the complex symphonic stuff Dimmu plays.
As someone said, despite the complexity and brilliance of their music, people will still find it trendy to dislike them.

white people ::)
Slayer - Reign in Blood album is still the holy grail of metal albums even to this day.
Stark - Angry Chairs is a great blog to find good metal! Good dudes.
I have a metal blog called The Living Doorway (linked to them) that delves into death/black/grind metal (amongst other things), if anyone is interested.
http://thelivingdoorway.blogspot.com/ (http://thelivingdoorway.blogspot.com/)
My favorite death metal bands IMO...in no particular order...some of these would be kind of a mixture of death metal, thrash and grindcore
Inflames
Arch Enemy (with Gosow on vocals)
Children of Bodom
Lamb of God
Divine Heresy
The Agony Scene
Mnemic
Nothing Face
Scar Symetry
Favorite two metal bands of all time though...
Metallica and Pantera....some of the Testament albums are pretty hard to beat too IMO.
one of the few bands I don't like :(
I consider them posers :(
Huge death metal fan. I generally lean towards more 'muddy' death like Portal, Incantantion, Father Befouled, Encoffination, Dead Congregation, etc..
But when I'm lifting, I like brutal/tech/slam:
Vader
Decapitated
Panzerchrist
Missery index (formerly Dying Fetus)
Dying Fetus
Suffocation
Nile
Slayer (well duhh)
Demolition hammer
Canibal corps
God there are too many I really love and I can never remember most of the bands I am listening too
Right now I am listening to GROG Scooping The Cranial Incides - great brutal deathmetal
