President Obama gives advice on women advancing in the workplace in his commencement address at the women-only Barnard College in New York City.
Obama tells women not to get caught up with the obsession over beauty and fashion and instead be a role model and focus on leading.
Obama shared advice that Michelle Obama has taught women, "you can be stylish and powerful too."
"Until there are women who tell her ignore our pop culture obsession over beauty and fashion and focus instead on studying and inventing and competing and leading, she'll think those are the only things that girls are supposed to care about. Now, Michelle will say there's nothing wrong with caring about that a little bit," Obama said in his commencement speech.
"You can be stylish and powerful too," Obama said.
Obama evoked his daughters Sasha and Malia as products of a successful parenting by Michelle and her mother Marian Robinson. The was one of several times he mentioned his daughters during his speech.
"Malia and Sasha are going to be outstanding women because of Michelle and Marian Robinson are outstanding women. So understand your power and use it wisely," Obama said.

I know, its so cool. And frankly i don't give a fuck what "the rich" have to pay.
Meanwhile while all the "bad" things are happening in California, I am not a city or state employee, nor am i on any type of Aid, so as California has it troubles, i hope when you read about it it makes you feel better about the possible shit hole you live in, especially in January.
However, just know, that the mild winters, great weather, fantastic beaches, skiing, food, summers, springs, falls, etc.. are more than worth the little bit of extra tax i pay.
AND..................... .....if people are leaving, GOOD! that's the only real draw back of living here, too many people. :)

Many of President Obama’s fervent devotees are young enough not to have much memory of the political world before the arrival of The One. Coincidentally, Obama himself feels the same way—and the White House’s official website reflects that.
The Heritage Foundation’s Rory Cooper tweeted that Obama had casually dropped his own name into Ronald Reagan’s official biography on www.whitehouse.gov, claiming credit for taking up the mantle of Reagan’s tax reform advocacy with his “Buffett Rule” gimmick. My first thought was, he must be joking. But he wasn’t—it turns out Obama has added bullet points bragging about his own accomplishments to the biographical sketches of every single U.S. president since Calvin Coolidge (except, for some reason, Gerald Ford). Here are a few examples:
•On Feb. 22, 1924 Calvin Coolidge became the first president to make a public radio address to the American people. President Coolidge later helped create the Federal Radio Commission, which has now evolved to become the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). President Obama became the first president to hold virtual gatherings and town halls using Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, etc.
•In a 1946 letter to the National Urban League, President Truman wrote that the government has “an obligation to see that the civil rights of every citizen are fully and equally protected.” He ended racial segregation in civil service and the armed forces in 1948. Today the Obama administration continues to strive toward upholding the civil rights of its citizens, repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, allowing people of all sexual orientations to serve openly in our armed forces.

I imagine Bill Clinton will be especially receptive to Obama’s habit of shoehorning himself into the limelight previously occupied by others. As you can see, the bullet points make clear that while each president has done something historic or notable, Obama is carrying forward every one of those accomplishments since Coolidge. No wonder he always seems so proud of himself.

Remember when Obama was railing on about "the tax-break for corporate jets," during the debt-ceiling fights of 2011? He repeatedly invoked this "tax break," which was really about how some corporate jets were depreciated over five years instead of seven. The message was clear: Republicans are in bed with corporate-jet owners. His loyal legions on the Left joined the chant.
But today, Obama's export-subsidy chief promised a billion dollars in taxpayer-backed subsidies for corporate jets, according to Bloomberg News.
Fred Hochberg heads the Export-Import Bank, a federal agency that subsidizes U.S. exports by loaning money or guaranteeing loans to foreign buyers of U.S. goods. Bloomberg reports:
Export-Import Bank Chairman Fred Hochberg plans to provide more financial aid to U.S. corporate jet manufacturers, branching out from a traditional support for Boeing Co. (BA) to help an industry where demand has suffered....
Ex-Im supported $90 million of corporate jet deliveries last year to customers of Textron Inc. (TXT)’s Cessna Aircraft Co, General Dynamics Corp. (GD)’s Gulfstream unit and Hawker Beechcraft Corp. Hochberg said he plans to boost the aid to $1 billion by 2014. The increased focus comes after order backlogs on corporate jets fell by more than half to $40 billion in three years.
This might be something for Senators to consider today as they vote on reauthorizing Ex-Im -- do they really want to cut subsidies to the corporate jet makers? Imagine the world with more expensive corporate jets!
It also is a perfect microcosm of Obama's approach to industry: Tax them more, regulate them more, and subsidize them more. As little as possible should be done outside the reach of government.

Wednesday morning, the president visited Taylor Gourmet, a D.C. sandwich shop, where he conducted a small-business roundtable. (Presumably, his political advisers figured it would be bad economic optics for him to visit the rival Washington deli Breadline.) While there, he also picked up a bite to eat -- and, evidently, brandished it at reporters. Obama's next stop was a meeting with congressional leaders; he quipped, "I'm going to offer them some hoagies." If sharing sandwiches is all it takes to prevent another debt-ceiling showdown, we have some very serious questions about the administration's bargaining strategy last time around.
The pool reporter helpfully conveyed that Obama ordered the 12-inch Spruce Street hoagie, which features roast turkey, prosciutto, roasted red peppers, and sharp provolone. It remains unclear what he brought for the congressional leaders, but you can save your jokes about San Francisco's Nancy Pelosi asking for the vegan sub with sprouts. Obama paid $62.79 in total.

The Obama White House is drawing ridicule for appending the official online biographies of nearly every president over the last century in order to link President Obama's accomplishments to the former commanders in chief.
The Obama team went into the pages of U.S. presidents dating back to Calvin Coolidge to add friendly looking "Did you know?" fact boxes to the end of their bios. Those additions were used to plug a host of Obama administration initiatives, ranging from the health care overhaul to the so-called "Buffett Rule" to his green-energy policies.
For instance, the following line was added to the official bio of the late President Ronald Reagan: "In a June 28, 1985, speech, Reagan called for a fairer tax code, one where a multimillionaire did not have a lower tax rate than his secretary. Today, President Obama is calling for the same with the Buffett Rule."
The White House is coming under heavy criticism from conservatives for the changes, and not just to Reagan's page.
Late Tuesday, the White House defended itself, claiming the staff was merely adding links to other pages.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — President Barack Obama is telling graduates of the U.S. Air Force Academy that they are the first class in nearly a decade to graduate into a world that has no Osama bin Laden, no war in Iraq and no questions about when the war in Afghanistan will end.
The president declared that there is a "new feeling about America." He said the work of ending one war and setting the path to end the Afghan war has set a foundation for what he called "a new era of American leadership."
Obama's commencement speech carried clear themes of his re-election bid.
He asserted that America is exceptional and more respected now. And he reiterated his economic vision of cutting the debt but putting more money into education, science, manufacturing and innovation.
President Barack Obama is delivering his final commencement speech of the season, addressing graduates of the U.S. Air Force Academy before pivoting to political fundraising out West.

Obama Misses His Entrance

President Obama failed to appear on cue last night at the Fox Theater in Redwood, California, a weird lapse for a president who may have been exhausted at the end of a marathon day of speechifying and campaigning.
Pool reporter Peter Baker of the New York Times offers a descriptive take on the scene at the late night fundraiser:
Your pool was brought into the Fox Theater, where the audience was being shown the campaign’s 17-minute promotional film. The movie ended with stirring tones, the lights came up and then … nothing. The stage stood empty for long minutes and no one came out, much less Potus. The crowd grew antsy and began chanting, “Obama, Obama!” Finally a woman took it upon herself to keep the audience busy, shouting, “Fired up,” followed by the crowd responding, “Ready to go.” After a few minutes, that died down. Then a man started chanting, “Four more years,” until that died down too. More minutes drained away with no one on the stage, no one addressing the crowd.
Finally when Potus was announced and entered the stage at 9:45 p.m. local (12:45 a.m. DC time), the crowd jumped to its feet enthusiastically. Potus responded to its energy. “It is good to be back in California,” he said. He then launched into roughly the same speech as in Denver.
At a fundraiser earlier in the day in Denver, Baker reported that “the room at times felt a little flat and Potus seemed a little tired.” What’s more, the crowd at the Denver event was smaller than the Obama campaign planed on, totaling only 550 compared to the 700 who were expected to attend.
Obama’s slog began at around 7:00 am when he departed the White House for Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he gave the commencement address at the United States Air Force Academy. He then staged three fundraisers, culminating in the final one in Redwood city, which ended for him at 10:17 PM local time, but 1:17 am Obama Time – that is, Eastern Daylight Time.

Obama hypocrisy: Joplin High School commencement address - "Generosity, Selfishness"

Addressing the graduating seniors of Joplin High School during a commencement speech on Monday, President Obama praised the selfless response of the Joplin community, and other kindhearted individuals, in the aftermath of the horrific tornadoes that struck the city last year. But the President cautioned the students that "as you begin the next stage in your journey, you will encounter greed and selfishness; ignorance and cruelty. You will meet people...who believe looking after others is only for suckers."
"But", the President added, "you [the students] are from Joplin. So you will remember, you will know, just how many people there are who see life differently; those who are guided by kindness and generosity and quiet service."
Ironically, the President's response in the immediate aftermath of the tornado clearly fits into the former category of individuals, and not the latter. For indeed, on that very same day, shortly after tornadoes ripped through Joplin Missouri and other parts of the Midwest, the President departed on a week-long trip to Europe. While the victims of the storms were trying to recover from the horrific disaster, Obama had more pressing needs to tend to in Europe - like searching for his Irish roots and finding an authentic Irish pub that serves genuine Guinness ale. [The President knocked down a pint of Guinness ale, but only after he received assurances that the drink was Perfect - the Real Thing.]
161 people died during the tornado, more than 1000 people were injured, and, at the time of the President's getaway, 29 - 40 people were still unaccounted for.
Finally, after returning from his week-long getaway to Europe, the President spoke at a memorial service in Joplin for the victims of the tornado. At the memorial service, the President affirmed his "Love" for Joplin. He didn't need to declare his "Love" for Ireland and for Guinness beer, as, [unlike Joplin], that fact was already well-known.....
City officials estimated at the time that about 8,000 houses and apartment buildings were destroyed by the tornado. That means thousands of Joplin residents were left homeless. And yet, despite all the victims, the injured and the homeless, President Obama departed on his trip to Europe and returned home a full week after the tornado had struck. And of course, not even a peep from the liberal mainstream media; for indeed, the Messiah is above all reproach.....

Obama visiting wind turbine factory where private equity blows gov’t financing away
President Obama, Executive in Chief of criticizing the cruelties of private equity, is more than happy to plead for donations from people who make their money in the industry. During daylight hours, he’s America’s “Robin Hood.” By night, though, he can be found schmoozing people at firms such as Blackstone — a major player in private equity.
But here’s where it gets better. Obama is speaking at TPI Composites (a produced of blades for wind turbines) in Newton, Iowa later today. Expect to see him promote clean energy tax credits — and laud himself for pushing public funds to help get these companies get off the ground.
(After all, there’s no way they could possibly survive without the government helping them out, right?)
Except they can. And they did.
It turns out that the bulk of financing ($68 million) for TPI (like most non-Obama affiliated companies in America) has come from private equity. (Source, Source, Source.)
In comparison, the nine million in stimulus funds they received is just a small chunk of the pie.
Then again, this is exactly what we should expect from a President who provided the best investment we’ve seen in some time, according to the Washington Post’s Marc Thiessen:
[A]s Hoover Institution scholar Peter Schweizer reported in his book, “Throw Them All Out,” fully 71 percent of the Obama Energy Department’s grants and loans went to “individuals who were bundlers, members of Obama’s National Finance Committee, or large donors to the Democratic Party.” Collectively, these Obama cronies raised $457,834 for his campaign, and they were in turn approved for grants or loans of nearly $11.35 billion. Obama said this week it’s not the president’s job “to make a lot of money for investors.” Well, he sure seems to have made a lot of (taxpayer) money for investors in his political machine.
So, President Obama, we’re left scratching our heads and wondering: What’s the truth about your feelings? Is private equity the monster you’re making it out to be, or is it just another part of a healthy capitalist system?

Poles and Polish-Americans expressed outraged Tuesday at President Obama’s reference earlier that day to “a Polish death camp” — as opposed to a Nazi death camp in German-occupied Poland.
“The White House will apologize for this outrageous error,” Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski tweeted. Sikorski said that Polish Prime Minister Donald “Tusk will make a statement in the morning. It’s a pity that this important ceremony was upstaged by ignorance and incompetence.”
The president had been trying to honor a famous Pole, awarding a Presidential Medal of Freedom to Jan Karski, a resistance fighter who sneaked behind enemy lines to bear witness at the atrocities being committed against Jews. President Obama referred to him being smuggled “into the Warsaw ghetto and a Polish death camp to see for himself.”
“A Polish death camp” — Sikorski also tonight tweeted a link to an Economist story noting that “few things annoy Poles more than being blamed for the crimes committed by the Nazi occupiers of their homeland.

It seems likely that a more formal apology will need to be issued. Alex Storozynski, the President of the Kosciuszko Foundation, lauded the president earlier in the day for recognizing Karski, but now says “Karski would have cringed if he heard this…(SNIP)...President Obama’s remarks are already being called ‘scandalous’ by media outlets in Poland. Obama was seen reading this phrase off a teleprompter. The President must acknowledge his mistake and apologize for it. He must do it for Karski and the other Poles that risked their lives trying to stop the Holocaust.”

President Obama has a long track record of insulting the Poles. In 2010 he chose to play golf on the day of the funeral of the Polish President Lech Kaczynski, the Polish First Lady, and 94 senior officials who perished in the Smolensk air disaster.
Eight months earlier he humiliated Warsaw by pulling out of the agreement over Third Site missile defence installations in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Poland demanded a “strong and clear response” from the U.S. after President Barack Obama’s mention of a “Polish death camp” while honoring a Pole who told the world about the Holocaust.
“We can’t accept such words in Poland, even if they are spoken by a leader of an allied country,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk told journalists in Warsaw today. “Saying Polish concentration camps is as if there was no German responsibility, no Hitler.”
Since, 2004 Poland has sought clarifications from several news outlets for the use of a phrase “Polish concentration camps” that were run by the Nazis during the country’s occupation in the World War II, according to the Foreign Ministry’s website. The government has convinced publications including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and the San Francisco Chronicle to stop using the phrase.
The U.S. administration regrets “this misstatement,” the Wall Street Journal’s website cited Tommy Vietor, the National Security Council spokesman, as saying. The text of Obama’s remarks on the White House website hasn’t been corrected as of today.
“The White House will apologize for this outrageous mistake,” Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski wrote on his Twitter Inc. account. “It’s a shame that such a momentous ceremony has been overshadowed by ignorance and incompetence.”
Obama posthumously awarded Jan Karski the Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, at a ceremony in Washington yesterday, saying the Polish officer “illuminated one of the darkest chapters of history” as he “repeatedly crossed enemy line to document the face of genocide, and courageously voiced tragic truths all the way to President Roosevelt.”

Campaign Holds 'Obama Shabbat' Across Washington, D.C.

The president is out of town tonight, spending the night alone at his home in Chicago after a day filled with six fundraisers. But his campaign in Washington, D.C. continues.
An events list found at BarackObama.com reveals that eight "Obama Shabbat" dinners will be held this evening, here in Washington, to observe the Jewish sabbath and to "organize our community to help reelect President Barack Obama." The Jewish sabbath is observed from sundown Friday evening to sundown Saturday night.
The descriptions for the dinners are formulaic, sounding mostly the same. "On Friday, June 1st Jewish Americans across the District of Columbia will gather in their homes to celebrate Shabbat and organize our community to help reelect President Barack Obama," one reads. "Please join us at the home of Hannah Malvin to learn more about how you can help reelect President Obama."
Another event notice states, "On Friday, June 1st Jewish Americans across the District of Columbia will gather in their homes to celebrate Shabbat and organize our community to help reelect President Barack Obama. Please join us at the Home of Veronica Weiss to learn more about how you can help reelect President Obama. This home is not Kosher, but if you are looking for a Kosher Obama Shabbat please let us know and we will help you find one."
The dinners come the same week President Obama told a group of 20 Jewish leaders that, according to several reports based on notes taken at the meeting, he "probably knows about Judaism more than any other president" and that "all his friends in Chicago were Jewish." This comments were met with much criticism from the pro-Israel community.
The addresses on the events list reveal that six of the eight "Obama Shabbat" dinners will be held in Northwest Washington, where the 1 percent of the District of Columbia reside. The hosts appear to be campaign volunteers.

Obama has bullied the Jewish state more than any president in history, according to op-ed pages and partisans. They said the same about Reagan.

It’s hard to know where to begin with Barack Obama’s recent pronouncement to a group of Conservative Jews that he “probably knows about Judaism more than any other president.” So, why not start at the beginning, with George Washington? It’s only by looking at the past that the scope of Obama’s historical chutzpah becomes clear.
Washington knew the Old Testament well. His favorite book was Micah; his favorite verse 4:4—“But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the Lord of hosts hath spoken it”—appears no fewer than 11 times in his diaries. He invoked it again in his famous letter to the Hebrew Congregation at Newport in August 1790. “May the children of the stock of Abraham who dwell in this land continue to merit and enjoy the good will of the other inhabitants—while everyone shall sit in safety under his own vine and fig tree and there shall be none to make him afraid,” he wrote. He grounded America’s experiment in religious freedom in republican theory. “The Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance, requires only that that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens in giving it on all occasions their effectual support.” In so doing, Washington became, as scholar Harry V. Jaffa has pointed out, the first secular ruler to call Jews his countrymen.
Washington’s principal adviser, Alexander Hamilton, whose Jewishness is a subject of historical dispute, publicly extolled Jews, under whom he studied as a boy on the island of Nevis. He saw in their suffering and success evidence of “some great providential plan.” To “discredit them” would “destroy the Christian religion,” Hamilton later argued in a debate.
President John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams agreed with Hamilton, writing separately and favorably of Jews and a Jewish state long before it was fashionable to Mordecai Manuel Noah, America’s first Jewish consul, founder of New York University, and his day’s most famous Jew. “I will insist that the Hebrews have [contributed] more to civilize men than any other nation,” John Adams wrote to F. A. Van der Kemp, a Dutch-born Enlightenment thinker, condemning the anti-Semitism of Enlightenment writer Voltaire. “If I was an atheist and believed in blind eternal fate, I should still believe that fate had ordained the Jews to be the most essential instrument for civilization the nations. … [Jews] are the most glorious nation that ever inhabited this Earth. The Romans and their empire were but a bubble in comparison to the Jews. They have given religion to three-quarters of the globe and have influenced the affairs of mankind more and more happily than any other nation, ancient or modern.” To make sure that Jewish influence would be felt more widely, Adams, a polyglot, even translated the Old Testament into English.
President James Madison also studied Hebrew, electing to spend an additional, post-graduate year to focus on it. During the Revolution, Madison turned to Haym Salomon, a Polish-born financier who offered loans well below market rate to members of the Continental Congress. Writing to fellow Virginian Edmund Randolph in September 1772, he praised Salomon’s generosity: “The kindness of our little friend in Front Street (Salomon) near the coffee-house is a fund which will preserve me from extremities, but I never resort to it without mortification as he obstinately rejects all recompense.” Salomon was captured by the British and condemned to death, but he escaped by bribing the guards with gold.
Salomon wasn’t alone among Jewish patriots. Indeed, it’s fair to say that Jewish finance underwrote much of the cost of the American Revolution, something the unjustly neglected President Calvin Coolidge noted with favor in a dedication of the Jewish Community Centre on May 3, 1925. Their generosity, often never repaid, came because “the Jewish faith is predominately the faith of liberty,” Coolidge declared. “From the beginnings of the conflict between colonies and the mother country, they were overwhelmingly on the side of the rising revolution.” He listed the merchants—overwhelmingly Jewish—who cast their lot with the colonists in signing the non-importation resolution of 1765, also known as the Stamp Act, which directly taxed American colonists by restricting their freedom of commerce. “Hebraic mortar cemented the foundations of American democracy,” Coolidge said. “[T]he patriots who laid the foundation of this Republic drew their faith from the Bible. … Every inheritance of the Jewish people, every teaching of their secular history and religious experience, draws them powerfully to the side of charity, liberty, and progress.”
The list of pro-Jewish statements evincing serious thought about Jews could go on and on. “I had faith in Israel before it was established, I have faith in it now,” President Truman declared 60 years ago last week on the occasion of David Ben-Gurion’s visit to the White House. “I believe [Israel] has a glorious future before it—not just another sovereign nation, but as an embodiment of the great ideals of our civilization.” With words like this, there could be little doubt as to Truman’s position on Israel—but just to be clear, he made sure that America was the first nation to recognize it.
To all of this, Obama might say: I hosted the first White House Seder; I knew the late Arnold Wolf, the controversial Chicago rabbi; I am friends with Bettylu Saltzman, who works with J Street; and I’ve read Philip Roth. But intimate knowledge of the milieu of Hyde Park Jewry does not mean fundamentally understanding Judaism.

Obama is seeking to persuade voters that he is still the right steward for the economy following a dismal jobs report out last week that showed an uptick in the unemployment rate.

The Vetting: Rabbi Arnold J. Wolf, the Socialist, anti-Israel Rabbi Who Taught Obama What He 'Knows' About Judaism

Last Tuesday, Israel's Haaretz newspaper reported that President Barack Obama told a group of visiting Jewish leaders that he "probably knows about Judaism more than any other president, because he read about it." While that is certainly untrue, Obama continued, suggesting that he should not be questioned about his commitment to the Jewish state because “all his friends in Chicago were Jewish.”
That might very well be true. The question is which Jews? Meet Rabbi Arnold Jacob Wolf.
Author Peter Beinhart, an Obama admirer and critic of Israel whose wife works as Special Assistant and Associate Counsel to the President, and who recently declared Obama to be "the first Jewish president," discusses Obama's immersion in Rabbi Wolf's Jewish radical fringe in his book The Crisis of Zionism:
But Obama was not embedded in the Jewish world; he was embedded in one specific Jewish world — a world of Jews who in the 1960s had opposed segregation and the Vietnam War and after 1967 applied the same liberal democratic principles when it came to Israel. Woven into the life stories of many of the Jews who most influenced the young Barack Obama was a bitter estrangement from the see-no-evil Zionism of the American Jewish establishment. In Chicago, those Jews constituted a geographic and moral community, a community that bred in Obama a specific, and subversive, vision of American Jewish identity and of the Jewish state. And at the heart of it all was Arnold Jacob Wolf.
A Reform rabbi, Wolf spent 20 years as the leader of K.A.M. Isaiah Israel Temple, which is located across the street from the Obamas' home in Chicago.
Rabbi Wolf subscribed to the "blame Israel first" policy of American Progressivism, and like the future president was active with the Democratic Socialists of America.
According to Wolf, he joined domestic terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn as one of the first to host “coffees” introduce 1996 candidate for Illinois State Senate, Barack Obama, to the community:
"I was certainly (hosting) one of the first," said Rabbi Arnold Jacob Wolf, rabbi emeritus at Chicago's KAM Isaiah Israel--located across the street from the Obama home.
"There were several every week," he recalled on Tuesday night when we spoke. "I remember what I said to him: 'Someday you are going to be vice president of the United States.' He laughed and said, 'Why not president?''
Upon the death of Rabbi Wolf in December 2008, President Elect Obama wrote:
I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Rabbi Arnold Jacob Wolf, who was not just our neighbor, but a dear friend to Michelle and me. We are joined in this time of grief by the entire Hyde Park community, the American Jewish Community, and all those who shared Rabbi Wolf's passion for learning and profound commitment to serving others. Today we bid farewell to a titan of moral strength and a champion of social justice...
Before his death, Rabbi Wolf spent much of his career leading organizations seeking to criticize, and even delegitimize, the Jewish State of Israel.
For example, along with radical MIT professor Noam Chomsky, Rabbi Wolf helped found the Committee on New Alternatives in the Middle East (CONAME) a philosophical grandparent to today’s faux pro-Israel group J Street.
CONAME was described by Time magazine as one of a number of Arab or pro-Arab organizations working in the United States. An investigation by the Near East Report revealed that CONAME’s signature appeared on telegrams urging Congress to send no arms to Israel during the 1973 Yom Kippur War, when Israel was attacked by Syria and Egypt on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
In 1974, Rabbi Wolf joined his friend from the anti-war movement, self proclaimed rabbi Arthur Waskow, on the executive board of a new organization called Breira, according to Beinart:
In fact Breira’s literature and activities have been directed single-mindedly to urging Israel to accept and the United States to pressure Israel to accept a Palestinian state on the West Bank and in Gaza under the leadership of the Palestine Liberation Organization. According to Breira’s Mark Bruzonsky, writing in December, 1976, in The Nation, “Breira’s only hope is so to weaken American support for Israeli policies as to force policy changes, by U.S. imposition if necessary.
Understand that Breira’s calls for Israeli concessions to the PLO occurred long before the terrorist group renounced terrorism.
In March of 1973, Wolf described Israel as:

In 2000, while his friend Barack Obama was still toiling in the Illinois State Senate, Rabbi Wolf was busy labeling Israel as a human rights violator. His proof? Everybody says so:
The Lebanon War was wrong. Continuing the occupation is wrong. The first Intifada softened Israel’s conscience; this one is hardening our hearts. Peace is not only a goal; it is the only way to the goal. Peace requires justice. If Amnesty International and the United Nations think Israel is repressive, they are not wholly wrong. If human rights leaders in Israel detail over and over again how the government has failed its Arab and Palestinian citizens, we must pay attention. We cannot avert the gaze of our conscience.
Even after his retirement in 2000, Rabbi Wolf stayed involved with his favorite radical causes. He was a member of the Rabbinic Cabinet of Brit Tzedek v'Shalom, the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace, a group that says its mission is "to educate and mobilize American Jews in support of a negotiated two-state resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” In actuality, it took a one-sided anti-Israel stance.
For example, Brit Tzedek defined “terrorist violence” as part of a pattern of Arab “resistance,” implying some measure of approval, or at best a lack of distaste.
The group also helped to make Rachel Corrie's a "martyr" for pro-Palestinian activists, even though videos show Corrie was 'playing chicken" with the bulldozer and could not possibly have been seen by the driver.
In its August 2003 bulletin Brit Tzedek v'Shalom bragged:
Similarly, freshman Congressman Rahm Emmanuel signed on the resolution asking for an investigation of the death of Rachel Corie, an international peace volunteer, non-violently attempting to stop an IDF house demolition in the West Bank. These are among the signs that Jewish politicians are feeling they can safely deviate from the usual conformist stance. We need to endorse these little steps and work to convince them to take others.
Looking into the positions of Rabbi Wolf gives great insight into President Obama's attitude towards Israel. Many of the President’s positions on Israel, including his rifts with Netanyahu can be seen in Wolf’s writings.
If Obama knows more about Judaism than any other president, that is because--to quote Ronald Reagan--he, like many others on the left, knows "so much that isn't so."

During a speech at the New Amsterdam Theater in Times Square, the president mixed up his Republican opponent with former Michigan Governor George Romney while contrasting their economic policies.
“We are not going back to a set of policies that say you’re on your own and that’s essentially the theory of the other side. You know, George Romney,” Mr Obama said.
As the audience roared with laughter at the president's parapraxis, Mr Obama, who was not using an autocue, attempted to explain the mistake before continuing with the speech, later referring to Mitt Romney as “Governor Romney” – a title both men share.
“Governor Romney is a patriotic American, he’s had great success in his life and he’s raised a beautiful family,” the president said. “But he has a theory of the economy that basically says, if I’m maximising returns for my investors, for wealthy individuals like myself, then everybody’s going to be better off.”
The half-hour speech, which was focused on the economy, continued to cast Mitt Romney’s policies as a throwback to the 1950s and 1960s – a reoccurring theme of Mr Obama’s reelection bid.
“We’ve started to right the ship and were moving in the direction that we imagined in 2008. We’re not going back, we intend to go forward and that’s why I’m running for a second term,” he said.
President Obama’s mistake follows a string of election gaffes in the last few days.

(CNSNews.com) - For the fifth time this year, as reported by White House transcripts, President Barack Obama has given a speech in which he mentions “my sons”—despite the fact that he is the father of two girls and no boys.
Who exactly are Obama’s “sons”? The term “my sons” is apparently a paternalistic figure of speech the president likes to use to describe some subset of the American male population who are other people’s children.
As with the last two times he used of the term “my sons,” Obama used the construction on Monday in New York City while talking about the “preventive services” regulation issued by his Department of Health and Human Services. This is the regulation that will require virtually all health care plans in the United States to provide women, without any fees or co-pay, with sterilizations and all Food and Drug Administration-approved contraceptives, including those that can cause abortions.
Forty-three Catholic dioceses and organizations—including the archdioceses of Washington and New York, Catholic University of America and the University of Notre Dame—have sued the administration over this regulation, arguing that it forces Catholics to act against their faith and is a violation of the First Amendment right to the free exercise of religion.
“We’re not going to go back to the days when somehow women couldn’t get the preventive care that they need,” Obama said at a campaign event at the New Amsterdam Theatre.
“We don’t need a situation where women aren’t controlling their own health care choices,” Obama said. “We don’t need to eliminate Planned Parenthood. I want my daughters to have the same opportunities as my sons. That’s part of what America is about. We’re not turning back the clock. We’re not going backwards.”

President Obama: The truth of the matter is that, as I said, we created 4.3 million jobs over the last 27 months, over 800,000 just this year alone.
The private sector is doing fine. Where we're seeing weaknesses in our economy have to do with state and local government. Oftentimes cuts initiated by, you know, Governors or mayors who are not getting the kind of help that they have in the past from the federal government and who don't have the same kind of flexibility as the federal government in dealing with fewer revenues coming in.
And so, you know, if Republicans want to be helpful, if they really want to move forward and put people back to work, what they should be thinking about is how do we help state and local governments and how do we help the construction industry? Because the recipes that they're promoting are basically the kinds of policies that would add weakness to the -- to the economy, would result in further layoffs, would not provide relief in the housing market, and would result, I think most economists estimate, in lower growth and fewer jobs, not more.

‘Uhhh,’ the president’s ‘uhhh’ press conference was ‘uhhh’ terrible

If you are president of the United States and you don’t have anything to say, don’t have a press conference to say it. If you’re the president of the United States and by Thursday it’s widely believed you’ve had one of the worst weeks of your presidency, take Friday off, and specifically avoid having a press conference.
Anytime you are president and you’re speaking in public at an ill-timed press conference after a bad week, try to have something to say, and do a good job in saying it. I watched the whole thing, but it’s not easy to think of one useful thing that he had to say. And what he said, he said very poorly. Was it just me, or did the president seem a little dazed and confused? He should have had a cup of coffee before the press conference.
And one more thing that’s a pet peeve. The president says “uhhh” too much. When I was a cable television news extra during the ‘90s and early 2000s, you learn early to purge your presentation of “uhhh.” Saying “uhhh” suggests uncertainty and is distracting. (And in my case, when it was accompanied by a Southern accent, it was even worse.) I don’t know what the president had in mind, but his own meandering, stuttering performance could not have done him any good with any audience. What was he, uhhh, thinking?
Perhaps the president and others are huddled in an after-action review meeting in the Oval Office right now. It appears no one at The White House wants to give the president bad news or an honest critique of his performance. Somebody should print this post and slide it under the Oval Office door immediately.

Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Diamond Jubilee a few days ago — that's 60 years on the throne. Just to put it in perspective, she's been queen since Harry S Truman was president.
At any rate, her jubilee has been a huge success, save for a few churlish republicans in various corners of Her Majesty's realms from London to Toronto to Sydney pointing out how absurd it is for grown citizens to be fawning over a distant head of state who lives in a fabulous, glittering cocoon entirely disconnected from ordinary life.
Which brings us to President Obama.
Last week, the republic's citizen-president passed among his fellow Americans. Where? Cleveland? Dubuque? Presque Isle, Maine? No, Beverly Hills. These days, it's pretty much always Beverly Hills or Manhattan, because that's where the money is. That's the Green Zone, and you losers are outside it. Appearing at an Obama fundraiser at the home of Glee creator Ryan Murphy and his fiancée David Miller, the president, reasonably enough, had difficulty distinguishing one A-list Hollywood summit from another.
"I just came from a wonderful event over at the Wilshire or the Hilton — I'm not sure which," said Obama, "because you go through the kitchens of all these places and so you never are quite sure where you are."

President Obama taped a surprise video message for activists attending the progressive Netroots Nation conference, telling them that "change is hard, but we've seen it’s possible."
"It’s hard to believe this is already the fourth Netroots Nation of my presidency," said Obama, greeting attendees in the pre-recorded message which was played at the summit in Providence, R.I. on Saturday. "That’s like 200,000 news cycles on Twitter," he joked.
Obama, who has faced criticism from some progressive activists for not doing more to help unseat GOP Gov. Scott Walker in Wisconsin's failed recall effort and who has been on the defensive on the economy and seen rival Mitt Romney rise in the polls, sought to reassure liberal supporters in his message.
"Four years ago, we came together because we shared a simple belief — that people who love their country can change it. And you have," he said.
"I know it hasn’t always been easy. I know the petty political fights in Washington can be frustrating, and believe me, I know that. But I hope you’ll look back and think about the fact that everything you did, step-by-step and day by day, has helped bring about the changes we’ve fought for.
The president touted many of his achievements including the Affordable Care Act, with the video cutting away to a clip of a family from Englewood, Colo. discussing how the healthcare reform law helped them secure coverage for their sick son.
"Change is also doubling down on clean energy and enacting historic fuel efficiency standards, changing our entire trajectory after decades of inaction," Obama continues.
"Change is the fact that for the first time in history you don't have to hide who you love to serve the country," he adds, referencing the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
Obama also mentions his ending of the war in Iraq and the killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
On the economy, Obama touts 4.3 million new jobs created in the last 27 months and vows to continue efforts to boost the economic recovery.
"That's just a short list," he says.
“At this make or break moment for the middle class, we face our most important fight yet, and now is the time to dig deep. Change is hard, but we’ve seen that it’s possible, as long as you’re willing to keep up that fight, I’ll be right there with you,” Obama concludes.

According to document excerpts published by the Washington Free Beacon, Anthony is a "tax-dodger" who owed more than $3 million back taxes.
Obama staffers should check into the backgrounds of the celebrities they use in campaign commercials. Although Anthony negotiated a settlement with the government on his back taxes in 2010, it reflects poorly on Obama's character that he would befriend the scofflaw singer.
Financial statistics republished by the Washington Free Beacon note that Anthony made more than $15 million during a five-year period. Apparently Obama's goal of forcing wealthy Americans to pay their fair share does not apply to his pals.

President Obama's campaign has released its latest radio ad, the first ad of the campaign specifically to target black voters.
“Four years ago we made history,” the voiceover in the ad states. “Now it’s time to move forward and finish what we started together. We have to show the President we have his back.”
Snippets of the president's remarks are played throughout the ad, as well as a catchy R&B tune with the chorus "we've got your back."

The ads are being placed nationally by Fuse Advertising, an African-American owned agency based in St. Louis, Missouri, which also was contracted by the Obama campaign in 2008.

Obama Can't Keep His Jobs Story Straight

Jobs: Just how inept is the White House these days? On Friday, President Obama was demanding that Congress put "teachers, cops and firefighters" back to work. But his own website says he's already accomplished that.
At that press briefing, Obama complained that while the private sector has been "hiring at a solid pace," the "biggest weaknesses (have) been state and local governments, which have laid off 450,000 Americans."
"These are teachers and cops and firefighters," he said. "Congress should pass a bill putting them back to work right now, giving help to the states so that those layoffs are not occurring."
On the official White House schedule, this briefing was billed as Obama "delivering remarks urging Congress to act on the 'To Do List.'"
Maybe Obama should have checked that list first, since, of the five items on it, not one has anything to do with saving state and local jobs.
Nope. The only things on that list are tax incentives for companies to create jobs at home; help for underwater homeowners who want to refinance; some targeted small business tax credits; more money wasted on "green" energy; and a silly new "Veterans Jobs Corps."
Not that it matters, since Democrats have entirely ignored Obama's picayune To Do List anyway.
However, on that same White House web page, Obama lists all his amazing job creation accomplishments, with little green check marks to show they've been done. Things like "Rescue the auto industry" and "Sign 18 tax cuts to help small businesses."

And right there on that list are these: "Keep 400,000 teachers in the classroom" and "Keep police officers, firefighters and other first responders on the job."
So, help us out here. If Obama's already saved these jobs, why is he saying state and local governments are cutting them and putting the economy at risk?
Either they aren't doing that, or Obama needs to uncheck those boxes.
The truth is, states are doing just what they should be doing, which is responsibly adjusting spending to meet current revenues. After more than a decade of massive growth — which saw state spending climb an average 6% a year and employment leap 10% — it's about time.
All Obama is doing is trying, with utter ineptitude, to pin the blame for his lousy economic record on someone else.

It will be Sarah Jessica Parker's house, but President Barack Obama's show. You could call it "Checks and the City."
Needing to boost his donor base and campaign cash, Obama is banking on elite entertainers for help so often they have essentially become a cast of characters in his campaign. He is using his Hollywood access and raffling it off as a prize to others, tapping into a nation that revels in celebrity even in hard economic times.
Obama's big-name tour makes its next stop on Thursday at Parker's place in the West Village of New York City. The "Sex and the City" star, who is married to fellow actor Matthew Broderick, is hosting a cozy $40,000-per-person fundraiser along with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
The president and first lady Michelle Obama will then head to a second glitzy fundraiser in Manhattan, headlined by a performance by Mariah Carey.
While Democrats have long held political and ideological ties to the TV and movie industry, the dynamic is different this time for Obama. His own celebrity has faded a bit after more than three years in the slog of governing, and some reliable donors have gotten so used to seeing him they want more -- like a real movie star.
What's more, Obama's team is getting outraised by motivated Republicans in a new, freewheeling environment, one in which wealthy donors can give unlimited amounts of money to outside political groups, known as super PACs, that can have huge sway over the presidential race.
As one counter-response, Obama is borrowing on the power of entertainers to give big bucks themselves and to encourage others to give what they can.
The strategy holds the potential for peril. It allows opponents to paint Obama as hobnobbing for dollars with middle-class angst riding high. The Republican Party lampooned Obama as tone deaf when his campaign promoted the Parker/Wintour event the same day as the news broke of climbing unemployment.
Pressed about Obama's relationship with the stars, his spokesman, Jay Carney, fired back: "Two words. Donald Trump. Next question?" Obama's Republican rival, Mitt Romney, has received fundraising help from Trump, the camera-finding real estate mogul whom Obama has dismissed as a carnival barker.
So far, the rewards of relying on celebrity help have outweighed the risks for the president in a tight re-election race.
"I think people, particularly in times of economic hardship, always look to the entertainment word for a diversion, to take their minds off what's going on in the economy," said California-based Bill Carrick, a veteran Democratic consultant. "I don't think there's much potential here for backlash."
From Tinseltown to Broadway, Obama has surrounded himself with blockbuster names lately: George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Spike Lee, Will Smith, Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Cher and many others who make more in one year that most people do in a lifetime.
Obama played basketball with a Batman (Clooney) and a Spiderman (Tobey Maguire), all in one game. He held a private chat in Los Angeles with some of town's young stars last week, from Jessica Alba to Jeremy Renner. He has had some of the most popular musicians in the business perform at his fundraisers, such as Alicia Keys, Cee Lo Green, Dave Matthews and the Foo Fighters. For his gig with Obama, Jon Bon Jovi even caught a ride on Air Force One.
"Let's face it: They help raise the money that you need to wage a serious campaign," said Robert Schmuhl, a professor of American Studies at the University of Notre Dame who has written about the intersection of politics and celebrity. "Most Americans today are involved in what we call the `celebrity culture' anyway. They understand how it works."
One way Obama makes it work: Raffling access to donors, and not just to dinners with him, but ones that also offer star power at private affairs like the one at Parker's house. The contests typically ask donors to give $3 or whatever they can spare.
The Obama campaign calls it a way to lure in donors who may not otherwise be involved in politics at all. Throw in Clooney, and watch the dollars flow.
A fundraising dinner held at the star's house last month drew an eye-popping $15 million, with more of it coming from a low-dollar raffle than tickets to the event.
That result showed how Obama's team, using Web ads and social media, is using celebrity to raise money from people who will never get in the room.
Implicit in the arrangement is that access to Obama, the president of the United States, is not enough of a draw. Obama's campaign has gone so far to make its next "Dinner With Barack" raffle more enticing by telling would-be donors that they can help pick Obama's guest -- naming Clooney and Parker as examples.
All the star wattage comes as Obama's campaign is warning supporters that they need to give. Central to Obama's strategy is having a larger number of people giving small-to-medium donations.
"The other side has the money," campaign manager Jim Messina said in one appeal to donors. "They know they can buy the election if they spend it."
But Hollywood has the money, too.
"There's a reason it feels like he's been here every two weeks for the last two years," Carrick, in Los Angeles, said of Obama. "Every time we turn around, there's someone on the radio telling you that you have to drive around the motorcade traffic."

President Barack Obama is making another trip to New York City that could cause big problems for commuters.
He's scheduled to arrive in New York City Thursday afternoon, along with First Lady Michelle Obama.
They're expected to head to One World Trade Center in lower Manhattan around 5 p.m., where they will meet elected officials including Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
They will get a firsthand look at construction progress at the World Trade Center site and President Obama will sign a beam that will become part of the building's infrastructure.
They will then attend campaign events, including a fundraising dinner at the Plaza Hotel.
Actress Sarah Jessica Parker and Vogue editor Anna Wintour are co-hosting a fundraising dinner for the president's campaign at Parker's Lower Manhattan home.
As with most of the president's frequent New York City visits, it is expected to cause rush hour gridlock.
Expect road closures in Lower Manhattan while the president is at the World Trade Center.
There will be no PATH train service to and from the World Trade Center from 3 p.m.- 6 p.m.
N.J. Transit is cross-honoring tickets from commuters returning to New Jersey.
Travelers can take the A, C or E subway lines to Penn. Station to access the PATH or take the R subway line to the 33rd Street PATH station.

But Team Obama did, and what they got in return was a continuation of the ongoing Spielberg flop-streak:

An early example of Spielberg’s influence is RomneyEconomics.com, a website designed by the Obama team to tell the story—a horror story, by their reckoning—of Mitt Romney’s career at Bain Capital. Afterward, Spielberg insisted that Messina sit down with the DreamWorks marketing team. Hollywood movie studios are expert, as presidential campaigns also must be, at spending huge sums over a few weeks to reach and motivate millions of Americans.
Obama campaign advisor Jim Messina took the meeting and is adamant the Bain attacks worked, but then I'd like to know why the Bain attacks have stopped cold?
If something works, you keep doing it, correct?
What I find especially funny is that the film business, including, obviously, the failing venture that is DreamWorks, has been a quivering tower of risky financing, corporate welfare, and shady investment for decades now.
Spielberg's indignation of over Bain Capital is like water's indignation over wet.

"What's holding us back is a stalemate in Washington between two fundamentally different views of which direction America should take and this election is your chance to break that stalemate," Obama said. He argued that the election presents a choice between two stark visions of how to "create strong, sustained growth, how to pay down our long-term debt and most of all, how to create good middle class jobs."
"The only thing that can break the stalemate is you," Obama said to cheers.
The president's speech came in a month marked by bad economic news, something that could imperil Obama's re-election bid. May employment numbers showed that the private sector created a disappointing 69,000 jobs and that the jobless rate ticked up to 8.2 percent. This week, the Federal Reserve released data showing that the median family net worth shrank between 2007 and 2010 to levels not seen since 1992.
Obama cited a litany of domestic spending cuts that would affect Americans if Romney and GOP lawmakers succeed in adopting their ideas. The president acknowledged that "of course the economy isn't where it needs to be" but said the election-year debate will pivot on how the nation grows faster and creates jobs.
Obama and Romney spoke about 250 miles apart on Thursday. The president was at a community college in Cleveland; Romney spoke at a manufacturing company in Cincinnati. Both regions are key to their individual efforts to secure Ohio's 18 electoral votes. Obama won Ohio in 2008.

The Obamas’ Star-Studded New York Night
Tonight is the Obama campaign’s “New York Night” of star-studded fundraisers, with a much-advertised event at actress Sarah Jessica Parker’s home and a ritzy gala-concert at The Plaza Hotel featuring a performance by Mariah Carey.
Both President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will attend. The Parker event, which is co-hosted by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, will raise an estimated $2 million for the Obama Victory Fund from ticket sales — plus millions more from an online grassroots sweepstakes, campaign officials said.
The contest was pushed heavily online, through social media and in the Obama campaign’s first national TV ad that aired on MTV during its 2012 Movie Awards. One lucky supporter who gave as little as $3 won tickets to attend. The campaign will release the name of the winner today. They will join 50 wealthy donors who each paid $40,000 to attend the reception inside Parker’s home.
The Obamas will spend close to three hours mingling at the event, according to their public schedule. Later, the first couple will headline a 250-person gala at the Plaza Hotel on Manhattan’s East Side. Tickets were $10,000 per person, a campaign official said. Pop star Mariah Carey will entertain guests ahead of the president’s arrival.
Obama tonight will net at least $4.5 million for his campaign, the Democratic National Committee and several state Democratic parties, according to figures provided by his campaign.
The president tops 166 re-election fundraisers for his campaign and the DNC with tonight’s events — another new record; nearly double the amount of time spent fundraising by George W. Bush.

Fixing the economy will be put off for a few hours this evening: President Obama will be busy shaking down some celebriguests attending a fundraising dinner hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker and Anna Wintour at Parker's New York City home.
Tickets cost $40,000, about as much as the average person makes in a year. For donating all that money, what kind of party favors do these guests get? We can't afford to attend ourselves to find out firsthand, and even if we could, journalistic principles would bar us from going in the first place.
So we're left to imagine what Obama's uber supporters are paying for:
For $10,000: Matthew Broderick will sit next to you. For $5,000, you'll share a table with Will Smith. For $50, Joe Biden will watch you eat and tell you it's a "big f***king meal."
The standard dinner will be overseen by Michelle Obama and will consist of locally grown herbs, low-fat beet-garnished eggplant and a corn-and-soybean protein shake. For $4.50, you could get a tasty dinner from Burger King.
For $15,000: You might get a flattering profile in Vogue — though it'll cost another $15,000 for that profile to remain online once the editors kill the link.
For $2,000: Obama will give you a personal shout-out at the beginning of his speech. For $4,000, he'll serenade you with three seconds of Al Green. For bundling a half-million dollars for his re-election campaign, he'll make you the ambassador to England.
Donate $30,000, and you'll get you the cell phone number of super PAC major domo Bill Burton, but only after working through a series of increasingly complex clues to throw the Federal Election Commission off track.
For $9,000: Mayor Cory Booker will light your table on fire, then carry you out of the house on his shoulders. And for an extra two grand, he'll write you a job recommendation for Bain Capital.
If Fifth Avenue is packed and you're running late, for $5,000 the president will call you in your car and tell you that "the traffic is doing fine."

The British-born Wintour's rising profile in the American political arena has stirred up rumors that the 62-year-old fashion doyenne could be in the running to become America's next ambassador to the United Kingdom, replacing the outgoing Louis Susman. However, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap that Wintour is happy at her current job.
Tuesday's summit for Chicago-area fashionistas was a repeat of a "Runway to Win" campaign event co-hosted by Wintour and Scarlett Johansson in New York on February 7. On Thursday, Wintour will return to Manhattan for yet another fund-raiser, this time with the high-end asking price of $40,000 per guest to join Barack and Michelle Obama and Sarah Jessica Parker at the "Sex and the City" star's home.

In New York City with first lady Michelle Obama for a fundraising swing, the president cracked a joke about the pace of the campaign and the demands of the office.
"This is what qualifies as date night in the Obama household," Obama joked at a fundraiser at the Plaza Hotel.
The first lady too expressed her concern about the pace of the campaign, but said that she intended to be on the trail "with as much passion as this little body can muster."

This week, White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett appeared at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention in New Orleans. During her appearance, Jarrett reiterated the deep affection and appreciation that President Obama has for the African American community. Jarrett stated that President Obama has “genuine love” for the black community and that he is proud of being black. She also responded to questions from those who felt that there is no pleasing African Americans who have the audacity to ask the president to actually do something for black Americans.
When I process Jarrett’s remarks, I first wonder what black people she is referring to when she says that President Obama has a “genuine love.” If she is referring to black people who went to Harvard, are part of the Chicago elite and vacation at Martha’s Vineyard, then the answer is a resounding “yes.” President Obama and his wife made a special trip to Chicago to attend the wedding of Jarrett’s daughter, Laura. The black elite have benefited handsomely from the Obama presidency, in the way that a Congolese warlord might benefit when oil companies come and extract resources from underneath the people.
But if Jarrett is referring to the hundreds of thousands of families that are waiting for the president to use his power of the pardon to keep his campaign promise to help alleviate the pain of mass incarceration, then the answer is “hell no.” To date, President Obama, the black man with the power to help countless families who’ve been ripped apart due to the War on Drugs (which he has admitted to being a colossal failure), has pardoned fewer men and women than former President George W. Bush (oh yeah, whites are also heavily favored in Presidential pardons, you can’t blame this one on Congress).
I’m not sure if Jarrett or Obama has shown that they care for families like that of Maria Lloyd, the young woman who wrote an open letter to Judge Marvin Aspen, the man who sentenced her father to 15 life sentences for a non-violent first offense related to powder cocaine distribution. Maria writes about the intense pain of seeing her family torn apart as a little girl and how her brother was murdered after growing up without having a father to guide and protect him. I wonder how deep the Jarrett/Obama love is for families like Maria’s, whose loved ones rot away in prison as our politicians sip lattes on the beltway preparing for the next black tie social.
If you happen to be among the millions of African Americans suffering from black unemployment rates that are higher than they’ve been under any president in the last 20 years, then you have reason to be suspicious of Jarrett’s romantic overtures. When the White House has been repeatedly asked if there should be targeted policy for urban areas hardest hit by unemployment, the White House has been as quiet as a church mouse. The last time I checked, when you love someone, you speak about it proudly and with confidence. A man can’t say that he loves a woman if he is afraid to say her name in public (just ask Beyonce).
It’s not as if Jarrett and Obama won’t gladly use the bully pulpit in a self-serving manner. The White House spoke proudly in favor of gay marriage just a month ago. Right before that, women’s rights were pushed to the forefront of the national dialogue. Most recently, the Obama White House signed an executive order giving immunity to 800,000 illegal immigrants who came to the US before the age of 16.
I dare say that Valerie Jarrett, in all of her and Obama’s alleged love for the African American community, cannot point to any bold stand that the White House has taken for African Americans that is equivalent to what they’ve done for the gay community, Latinos or women’s rights groups. But if we are ignorant enough to simply buy what a politician sells us and not require them to engage in action to prove it, then we deserve nothing more than second-class citizenship.
Valerie, talk is cheap, which is why politicians such as yourself like to do so much of it. If I owe someone money and can repay my entire debt by saying “I love you,” then I will always be happy to give them words instead of action. Genuine love is communicated through activity and policy, not a bunch of woulda-coulda-shouldas. If I say that I care deeply for my mother and then let her starve to death on the street, some would say that my actions are not consistent with my words. So, when you say that you and President Obama love black America, while black children die from gun violence, black families suffer from unprecedented unemployment and black families are tortured via mass incarceration that can be alleviated by executive action, then your words are as empty as any other politician in Washington.
The most damning challenge for the Obama Administration is that they cannot find reliable proof that the quality of life for black folks has improved under their regime. The administration has been missing in the lives of black people like an absentee father who only shows up on birthdays to say “I’ve been thinking about you.” I can’t imagine Valerie being satisfied if her new son-in-law said, “Laura, I love you, but I’m sleeping with other women.”
No different from the parent who has neglected their responsibility or the man who uses smooth words to seek instant forgiveness, the administration can’t simply show up at election time and ask black America to “have it’s back. ” Loyalty gets what loyalty gives, and you’ve been missing in action.

Call it "too much substance, not enough style?" President Barack Obama says his biggest mistake since getting to the White House three and a half years ago has been his tendency to tackle the job as national policy wonk rather than the inspiring figure he cut in the 2008 campaign.
"When I think about what we've done well and what we haven't done well," the president told CBS television in an interview, "the mistake of my first term - couple of years - was thinking that this job was just about getting the policy right."
"And that's important. But the nature of this office is also to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity and purpose and optimism, especially during tough times," Obama said in an excerpt of the exchange with Charlie Rose.
Presidents — politicians in general — tend to sidestep questions about their biggest mistake in office, though they sometimes stumble spectacularly over them (as George W. Bush did in April 2004), or offer up a self-serving answer that might be lampooned as "I just love America too much." Obama seems to be saying that, dagnabbit, he just took the job too gosh-darn seriously. Republicans wasted little time in mocking the answer. Republican National Committee spokesman Tim Miller tweeted "I'd go w/ utter economic failure."
And Mitt Romney hit out hard at Obama: "Being president is not about telling stories."
"Being president is about leading, and President Obama has failed to lead. No wonder Americans are losing faith in his presidency," Romney said in a statement.

Obama’s Big, Bad Story Isn’t Right

Obama’s latest mea culpa just confirms how far gone this presidency is.
In an interview with CBS’s Charlie Rose, Obama says that the problem he’s had isn’t with the failed policies of his first term, but rather that he failed “to tell a story to the American people,” according to a report in the Christian Science Monitor.
"The mistake of my first term – couple of years – was thinking that this job was just about getting the policy right. And that's important. But the nature of this office is also to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity and purpose and optimism, especially during tough times," said the president.
We’re paying White House staffers $38 million yearly, according to Politico, plus looking at roughly $750 million to a billion dollars in campaign spending to support this president- and the best excuse he can come up with for his failed presidency is that he’s not a good story-teller?
This is a man who largely won the presidency on nothing other than a fantastic and unbelievable story he sold to America via willing accomplices in the press.
Remember the story about Chris Matthews and the tingle that ran up his leg when Obama spoke?
That was a true story; a sad story, but still true.
But being president in one way or another, and at some point in time, for us grown ups in TV land, should become about truth, policy and the American way- not leg tingles.
Leg tingles are great for a romance, but they don’t create jobs; they’re no substitute for an energy policy; they don’t make medical bills magically disappear; they don’t pay the student loans the administration tricked students into taking; they don’t win the war in Afghanistan when you surge more troops into the country and more American troops die; they don’t solve the banking crisis; or make green investments smart; nor do leg tingles restore confidence in government and industry.
But what can you expect from an administration that has nothing to offer but new stories about it being someone else’s fault?
Leg tingles? Forget it.
That was 2008.
For 2012 the tingle is entirely different.
“Because that's how you play the game in Washington,” admitted then-candidate Obama according to a transcript of his 2008 “closing argument” speech released by the Chicago Sun Times. “If you can't beat your opponent's ideas, you distort those ideas and maybe make some up."
Indeed you do, Mr. Obama.
Because you can’t take the horror story that’s become Obama’s War-on-Everything and sell it as a children’s tome, or a feel good drama or even as a journey of personal discovery- as we were once warned about by Sarah Palin.
Because the story that led to those leg tingles has turned into one that makes the hair on the back of our neck stand straight up after three-and-a-half years.
And we can all feel the tingle now.
It’s the tingle of coal miners without jobs, teachers being laid off, public pension crunches, businesses, small and large, struggling with the most massive government intervention in this history of our country- outside of war- to what purpose?
So Obama can tell us that the only problem is that he hasn’t told us the right story yet.
Save it for your next, navel-gazing book, Mr. President.
And the sooner you write it, the better.
Because there’s another way to tell the story.
It’s the only way that really matters to all of us- regardless of our political persuasion.
You want money for roads and bridges and policeman and pension payments and health benefits already promised to retirees? You want money for teachers and new hospitals and wellness programs?
Then let’s try telling a story about prosperity.
For that story we’ll have to write a new chapter in the book of life; a chapter without President Barack Hussein Obama, and the new, improved massive federal government.
And the chapter will start like this:
Once upon a time there was a business that sold things to people. After a long struggle, it made money and sold more things to people; and so it hired more people to sell more things; and it made a very nice profit for Bain Capital, the California Public Employees' Retirement System, and so Wall Street and Main Street rejoiced alike.
That’s a story every president should believe in.
And never tire of telling us.
It’s a story that Obama will never understand.
Incredible. He probably believes this shit too.

SCOTT THUMAN, WJLA-TV: What about Bain Capital? It's a big issue for the past 24 hours right now. Mitt Romney's campaign says he left in '99, yours says it's 2000, there's a significant difference, is he being dishonest with the American public?
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Well, here's what I know, we were just talking about responsibility and as president of the United States, it's pretty clear to me that I'm responsible for folks who are working in the federal government and you know, Harry Truman said the buck stops with you.
Now, my understanding is that Mr. Romney attested to the SEC, multiple times, that he was the chairman, CEO and president of Bain Capital and I think most Americans figure if you are the chairman, CEO and president of a company that you are responsible for what that company does.
Ultimately Mr. Romney, I think, is going to have to answer those questions, because if he aspires to being president one of the things you learn is, you are ultimately responsible for the conduct of your operations, but again that's probably a question that he's going to have to answer and I think that's a legitimate part of the campaign.
SCOTT THUMAN: And you think he should answer that soon?
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Yeah, absolutely.

He's most frustrated by the inability "to change the atmosphere" in the capital "to reflect the decency and common sense of ordinary people" who want leaders to solve problems.
He adds "there's enough blame to go around for that."

At a speech in Roanoke on Friday night, as more than 20 people fainted or struggled in the heat, Obama blurted out "the paralegals" would be coming to help.
Newby wrote, "A Google search at the time of this writing found that the gaffe has gone unreported by the so-called 'mainstream media.'", My own "all news" Nexis search confirms Obama wasn't tagged for this remark:
OBAMA: Now, before I finish, can I say, by the way, that some of you have been standing for a while and I see a couple folks slumping down a little bit. Make sure you're drinking water. Bend your knees. Don't stand up too straight. The paralegals will be -- the paralegals? (Laughter.) You don't need lawyers. (Laughter.) The paramedics will be coming by, so just give folks a little bit of room, they'll be fine.
Perhaps if ObamaCare would be fully implemented, you might need paralegals before you get health care. CBS noticed it, but didn't go beyond a tweet.
"Catching his mistake," CBS Radio reporter Mark Knoller tweeted, Obama corrected himself and told the crowd, "you don't need lawyers."

Report: Obamas Staged 'Kiss Cam' Do-Over Smooch for Media

Barack and Michelle Obama attended an exhibition game between the U.S. and Brazil men's Olympic basketball teams at the Verizon Center in D.C. this evening.
The arena's 'Kiss Cam' showed the Obamas on the jumbotron, but the Obamas would not kiss for the camera.
Apparently word got back to the Obamas that they were being made fun of so a do-over was arranged. First the AP reports:
"Obama and first lady Michelle Obama even appeared on “Kiss Cam,” the in-house video that spotlights kissing couples during a game break. The Obamas wouldn’t oblige during the first half, despite roars and some boos from the crowd. But in the fourth quarter, “Kiss Cam” peered back on the first couple and the president was ready: He put his arm around his wife and planted a big kiss on the first lady as the crowd roared."
The New York Times' Peter Baker reported on Twitter that the do-over was staged:
"Not to be cynical, but press pool was out in motorcade ready to leave and then brought back into arena in time for successful kiss-cam redo." 10:18 PM - 16 Jul 12 via Twitter for iPhone
Baker also reported the kiss earned the Obamas chants of "Four more years!" from the crowd.
Imagine the coordination that had to take place for the do-over. Someone, probably David Axelrod, sent Obama an urgent text message telling him he had to kiss his wife on camera. Next Obama had to tell his aide to order the Kiss Cam operator to focus on Obama again and coordinate when. Then the press had to be dragged back in from the motorcade outside and back to the floor of the arena.

(CNSNews.com) - White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said last week that the $831 billion economic stimulus law that President Barack Obama signed on February 17, 2009 is “widely recognized to have broken the back of the recession.”
When President Obama signed the law three and a half years ago, the Congressional Budget Office estimated it would cost $787 billion. Since then, the CBO has revised its estimate, eventually concluding the stimulus cost $831 billion.
In January 2009, the month before Obama signed his stimulus, the national unemployment rate was 7.8 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It has not dropped below 8 percent in any month since then. In February 2009, it hit 8.3 percent. In June 2012, it was 8.2 percent.
In January 2009, there were 12,049,000 unemployed people in the country, meaning there were that many people age 16 and older who wanted a job, had actively sought one in the previous four weeks, but had not been able to find one. In June 2012, there were 12,749,000 unemployed people—or 700,000 more than there were the month before Obama signed the stimulus.

Jerry Springer called President Obama “truly exceptional,” after meeting him in Cincinnati on Monday, according to the Huffington Post.
“He’s so competent and so smart, I just don't see why we wouldn't want him for four more years as president,” Springer said.

President Barack Obama admonished American college students last night to stop slacking off and start studying, warning that their counterparts in the developing world aren't just "hanging out."
Veering slightly off-script during a speech to the National Urban League in New Orleans, the President touted his administration's efforts to improve access to higher education but said that students will have to do their part as well.
"Of course, that means all of you all have got to hit the books, I'm just saying," Obama said, according to a White House transcript. "That's part of the bargain — America says we will give you opportunity, but you've got to earn your success."
"You're competing against young people in Beijing and Bangalore. They're not hanging out. They're not getting over. They're not playing video games. They're not watching 'Real Housewives.' I'm just saying. It's a two-way street. You've got to earn success."
"That wasn't in my prepared remarks," he added. "But I'm just saying."
The slightly awkward remarks appear to be Obama's latest effort to fend off the Republican assault over his recent "You didn't build that" comment. Although the remark has been largely taken out of context, the Obama campaign has so far struggled to hedge its pro-middle class message against attacks claiming that the line proves the President wants Big Government to get credit for the American Dream.

Obama acknowledged that he called the women’s gymnastics team during his trip to Ohio, to congratulate them for their gold medal winning performance
“These gymnastics folks, I don’t understand how they do what they do,” Obama said. “So I told these ladies, as I was congratulating them, ‘How do you not bust your head every time you’re on that little balance beam?’”

President Obama and his campaign made a desperate last minute push to close the July books on the highest note possible, resorting to a seemingly endless series of gimmicks and pleadings to prod supporters to contribute.
The Obama campaign long ago abandoned hope that it could raise $1 billion, and probably won’t make it’s downgraded goal of $750 billion either. It was outraised by the Romney campaign for the previous two months, and may well get trounced again in July.
Obama staged a desperate race around the country during July to raise money, with the final days of the month including a last minute dash out to the ritzy Virginia suburbs and then a special trip on Air Force One to collect $40,000 a head from the One Percent at a swank New York City fundraiser.
But Obama’s personal touch was accompanied by a series of sometime bizarre tactics to get backers to part with their cash before midnight July 31.
Among the oddest was a demand for booze money dispatched via Twitter.
Other Tweets offered a free car magnet and that staple of money raising chotchkies, the T-shirt: Pick your favorite state! Pick your favorite color!
Nothing degrading here . . .
The effort also included an email box-clogging stream of messages from the campaign, some shrieking that Romney is outraising Obama and that he and his wealthy donors threaten to steal the election.
One message came from none other than the president of the United States, who wanted $3.

Obama said during a Monday phone call to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory that "Mohawk Guy" -- NASA scientist Bobak Ferdowsi, who became an online celebrity when his hair style was noticed in pictures of scientists working on the Mars rover Curiosity project -- has reawakened his old dreams of sporting the same hair-do, CNN reported Tuesday.
"I, in the past, thought about getting a mohawk myself, but my team keeps on discouraging me," Obama said during the call, which was broadcast on NASA TV.
"And now that he's received marriage proposals and thousands of new Twitter followers, I think that I'm going to go back to my team and see if it makes sense," the president said.
Obama made the phone call to congratulate the scientists on the successful landing of Curiosity on the surface of Mars last week.
"What you've accomplished embodies the American spirit," he said. "Our expectation is that Curiosity is going to be telling us things that we did not know before."
How fucking embarrassing.

President Obama Takes Questions from People Mag, Entertainment Tonight, Disses White House Press Corps

President Obama hasn’t formally taken questions from the White House press corps in more than two months, while on the campaign trail in Iowa yesterday he made time for reporters from People Magazine and Entertainment Tonight.
His last news conference was at the G20 in June, when he answered six questions from three reporters on the European debt crisis, the conflict in Syria, and the notion of politics stopping at the water’s edge.
The White House press corps has not formally been given the opportunity to ask questions of the president on U.S. soil since his appearance in the Briefing Room on June 8 (when he said “the private sector is doing fine.“)
His last formal White House news conference was on March 6.
The president answered a shouted-out question about the shooting at the Sikh Temple on August 6, after the signing of “Honoring America’s Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012.”
That’s not to say the president has not faced the press. As he campaigns heavily across the country, Obama has done countless interviews with local radio and TV stations, including several ABC affiliates.
During his three-day Iowa bus tour this week, for example, he conducted three interviews with local radio stations, including a sports talk radio show, and a roundtable discussion with columnists from three Iowa papers, in addition to sitting down with People and Entertainment Tonight. On July 12, he did an interview with Charlie Rose for CBS This Morning.
Asked if the president will be holding a full-blown White House press conference any time soon, Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters Wednesday, “I don’t have any scheduling announcements to make about that.”

Obama's soft-media strategy

Forget Chris Matthews — he’ll take Nancy O’Dell.
President Barack Obama has been taking a lot of questions in the two months since his last press conference or national news interview. He’s just been doing them with ESPN, Entertainment Tonight, People Magazine and FM radio stations around the country, mostly to talk local sports and regional cuisine.[/color]

This isn’t a mistake. Even at the height of a campaign in which they’ve been firing hard at Mitt Romney and trying to keep hold of the news cycle, Obama’s reelection staffers are pretty sure most voters aren’t tuning in.
“People get their news in many different ways,” Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki told POLITICO. “Sometimes it’s turning on ‘Entertainment Tonight’ and seeing what the latest news is out there.”
Psaki said the president will be doing a variety of media appearances in the coming weeks with both national and local outlets, but for now, “We’re reaching an audience that may not be paying attention to the day-to-day political back and forth.”
That also lets them avoid the back-and-forth with the national press corps for much lighter outlets. Friday, Obama was behind closed doors at the White House to cap off a week in which Mitt Romney announced his running mate and Obama’s own vice president lit up controversy. But he was on the air: Obama called in to a New Mexico morning radio show to weigh in on “Call Me Maybe,” his favorite work-out songs and his ideal super power (he chose speaking any foreign language, though “the whole flying thing is pretty good”). The exchange ended with one co-host Kiki Garcia giggling, “I just flirted with the President of the United States of America.”
Obama’s not the only one. Romney has been more available recently — including two news conferences just this week — but before that had done only one since May. He even spurned U.S. reporters in favor of a British press availability on his recent overseas trip. And the day after he tapped Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate, the GOP ticket (and their wives) gave the first sit-down interview to … People magazine.

Obama himself has often complained about the media’s focus on trivialities over substance. But the anti-Beltway press sentiment is one that Obama himself has echoed on the trail, saying that the concerns of the national press corps and the the American people are wildly different.
“What the American people hear and what the press corps want to focus on are two very different things,” Obama told “Entertainment Tonight,” about ongoing questions regarding Vice President Joe Biden’s controversial quip about Republicans putting Americans back in “chains.”
Obama points to his failure to communicate as one of the single largest problems of his presidency, but media exposure has always proved tricky for him. In 2008, he was clearly helped, despite the knocks — including the famous “celebrity” ad from John McCain — from making stops like Ellen and Oprah a regular part of his routine. Even then, though, he was chided for giving an October 2008 interview to Mario Lopez on “Extra,” after a month without a press conference. And in 2009, his media handlers yanked him back in the face of withering criticism that he’d overexposed himself and the presidency in a way that was bad for the presidency and bad politics too.
But now, Republican strategists say no matter how frustrating Obama’s national media freeze-out is, it’s smart.
“I think just think it comes down to their overall strategy, which is to be low risk, to play it safe. They feel like they’re ahead and there’s no need to put the president in a position where he makes a mistake,” said former George W. Bush spokesman Trent Duffy, a founding partner of public affairs group HDMK. “They feel like they’ve got it won, and Romney’s got to do something dramatic.”
The press corps cares a great deal, but that’s not the constituency either campaign is courting.
“You have a category of voter that is watching ‘Entertainment Tonight’ and reading People that are not exposed to the cable news shows, are not high-intensity New York Times or POLITICO readers,” Steve Schmidt, chief strategist on McCain’s 2008 campaign, told POLITICO. “The one thing the Obama camp knows for sure, while there’s a lot of griping among the press, the public doesn’t care.”
The decision to grant interviews to People and “Entertainment Tonight” after eight weeks without a news conference is proving to be a slight even the most high-profile, fair-minded White House reporters are not willing to suffer privately.
“I hate the fact that they have made me worry more about access than reporting. Why build a press briefing room if the president isn’t going to brief the press?” NBC News chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd told POLITICO, who said the White House’s disregard for the press has “reached a new low.” “Both campaigns say the press doesn’t cover them seriously. But the more they cordon us off, the harder it is for us to report on the issues.”
ABC News chief White House correspondent Jake Tapper made his frustrations with the White House known in a terse blog post hammering home how much time has elapsed since the president’s last presser.
“I know that defenders of the president will say the White House press corps is just being whiny. But the bottom line is presidents set precedents,” Tapper told POLITICO. “So President Romney, or Ryan, or whomever the next Republican president will be, will be able to use President Obama as a benchmark. And today’s defenders of today’s president may not find tomorrow’s president’s avoidance of questions not about chili or fave songs as acceptable.”
Indeed, Obama has held half as many availabilities as his two most recent predecessors at this point in the year of their reelection campaigns, according to data provided by Towson professor and presidential scholar Martha Joynt Kumar. At the same point in their reelection campaign, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton had held 17 and 16 pressers, respectively. Obama has held just eight.
Obama’s campaign swing across Iowa this week is a case study in his low-risk, low-stakes media strategy. Obama spoke with Carlos, Kiki and Danny on KOB-FM, Big Ken and Colleen on Star 102.5, People magazine, “Entertainment Tonight” and a handful of local newspapers. (One local newspaper reporter filed a story about how exciting it was to ask Obama a question — without transcribing the answer to the question). In July, he sat for interviews with 35 outlets — 26 of which were local TV stations, newspapers or radio outlets, according to data provided by CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller.
Obama has even declined an interview with the friendliest liberal outlet on television. Earlier this month, MSNBC’s Chuck Todd sat down with Mitt Romney for a one-on-one interview that will be featured in an hourlong MSNBC documentary that will air prior to the Republican convention. MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, who has been very public about his support for Obama, was not granted an interview with the president for the network’s Obama documentary, which will run prior to the Democratic convention. The White House offered Biden instead.
In an interview with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, Obama campaign press secretary Ben LaBolt defended the president, pointing out that he has been available for “dozens of questions each week on the campaign trail” from local media outlets.
“He’s certainly given press conferences, and he’ll do them again. But that’s not to say that an interview in Cleveland, Ohio, with the television station there isn’t just as important,” LaBolt said.
When pressed by Mitchell on whether Obama would give a national news conference “where he could be asked questions on all subjects by those who cover it full time,” LaBolt once again cited his interviews with local media and a recent CBS interview.
“I’ll take that as a ‘No,’” Mitchell replied.
On Thursday, the Republican National Committee took a playful jab at Obama, reminding voters what the world looked like the last time the president gave a news conference. “Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were together,” “Lebron James had still not won an NBA Championship,” and the like.
“From the tone of the campaign to his lack of plans on Medicare, it’s clear Obama is avoiding tough interviews that will help get Americans the answers they deserve,” RNC spokeswoman Kristen Kukowski told POLITICO.
But for all the kvetching about the issue from Republicans and reporters, White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest rebuffed reporters on Friday who were pressing for information on when they’d get a chance to question the president again, arguing Obama’s been talking to “reporters from a wide range of outlets.”
”I don’t have any announcements to make in terms of what kind of timing,” Earnest said. “The president has spent a lot of time answering questions from journalists all across the country.”
“The White House should be admonished for not answering questions, but it’s not going to affect behavior,” Schmidt said. “The public is seeing him answer questions on ‘Entertainment Tonight,’ seeing snippets of his speeches on the evening news, so the notion that he’s not accessible doesn’t make sense to them.”
“The public doesn’t care because the message from both parties has been, ‘Don’t trust the media,’” Todd said. “With both campaigns trashing the press, 90 percent of the country is being told that they can’t trust us. Obama and Romney have no problem with that.”
“The problem is, if you protect these guys too much, they’re more likely to make gaffes. If you expose them more, no one gaffe stands out,” he went on. “So this strategy only serves to raise the profile of the limited access they give.”

"I just flirted with the president of the United States of America," the interviewer says after Obama hangs up.
"Obama hasn’t answered questions from the White House press corps in over 8 weeks but he has appeared on Entertainment Tonight and pop radio stations. Obama has yet to be asked by reporters about the increasing unemployment rate but we do now know where he stands on Call Me Maybe," says an official from the Republican National Committee.

Yet another push in President Barack Obama's soft-media strategy, unearthed this morning by WWD's Erik Maza:
Editor in chief Cindi Leive flew to Portland, Ore., last month to sit down with the President for an interview that will appear in the magazine’s November issue. It is not the first time Obama has sat down with Glamour — he did so in 2008, along with John McCain — but it is his first time as a sitting president. ...
Glamour pitched them on a big audience, said Washington editor Linda Kramer Jenning. “There’s a lot of attention being paid to young, women voters,” Jenning said. “That’s the calling card that opens the door.” It took five months to lock down some face time.
Jenning said Leive asked the President about women’s health care, among other topics, even though the interview took place before the recent uproar over the antediluvian comments about rape by Missouri congressman Todd Akin.
