Didn't watch the vid, but here my humble opinion.
Supplements = supplements.
Not miracle drugs. Not steroids.
90% on the market are crap, some are good.

Good observations.
May I add to that: some are good when used properly.
And, by properly, I mean not just the supplement itself, but with everything else in check like diet & training.

compared to what?
compared to a healthy diet?
yes

What do you currently use?

What do you currently use?
creatine (purple-K because mono gives me the shits)
seal oil
salmon oil
C
D
Multi
&
Whey isolate shake (more of a food source than a supplement)
i also add glutamine (amino acid, not a supplement, again, protein) & metamucil to my shakes
my bitch is about anything with a 'proprietary' blend
those are 'supplements' in my mind.... they are all a waste of money

The MOST overrated product EVER:
vitamin pills.
All sorts, multi, C, E, whatever.
The only exception might be Vitamin D, which is falsely labeled as a vitamin but is in fact a hormone.
If you have a good diet, you don't need that crap, on top of that it is still unkown how most of the vitamins are absorbed and how good they get absorbed when taken as a pill and without secondary helpers that naturally occur in the food naturally.
As for minerals, calcium is way overrated, you MIGHT need magnesium when on creatine or steroids, and some zinc maybe, but the rest you can get more than enough through a good diet.
Vitamins are the biggest scam ever.

I take:
Multi-For what I lack in my diet. NO ONE eats perfectly all the time.
B-Complex- I do not ingest caffeine or any type of stims. I have energy all the time, I attribute that to B vitamins.
Fish Oils-Proven over and over to be beneficial to ones health.
Vitamin D- Also a proven supplement.
Coq10- Every cell in your body depends on this nutrient in order to survive. How could this nutrient be unnecessary. ::)
Red Yeast Rice-PROVEN via blood test to reduce LDL's.
Vitamin E-Proven antioxident.
Zinc-Proven mineral.
Saw Palmetto-PROVEN!
Whey Protein Isolate once in a while.
Some supplements are absolutely proven to be beneficial to ones health. I focus on the ones mentioned.

I love "proven mineral" the most.
Dude all these are good for you, NO question.
The question is, are they beneficial in supplement form?? For every study that says yes you find at least 2 that say no.
Vitamin E supplementation is linked with higher stroke and cancer risk, even.
No one eats perfect all the time, but your body will get what he needs even if you don't. Look at all those idiots eating only chips and coca cola all day and smoke and drink on top, do they drop dead because of vitamin defiency? No.
Eat well, lots of veggies and fiberous food and you will be fine.

creatine (purple-K because mono gives me the shits)
seal oil
I've been considering a seal oil supplement after reading some of the the literature you referenced on here a while back.
As for the creatine, I've also experienced gastric upset using mono. One thing that helped me immensely was to drink more water before and after creatine consumption. When using creatine, I usually drink a good 24oz of water pre-workout. I then take my creatine. About 20-30 mins later, I pull into the gym parking lot and consume my carb drink (usually grape juice). I then drink about another 18oz of water during my workout, and then more after the meal following my training.
I've found this to greatly minimize the stomach discomfort - not necessarily the carb source or timing; I only included those details for completeness.

Excellent point about the vit-D. Over the last year or so, we've had some good discussions and links regarding vit-D, and yes: recent research has shown it is, in fact, a hormone. Even with sun exposure, our bodies can only synthesize/manufacture so much, and I believe in the benefit of consuming additional D in the form of supplements.
I also agree that the general vitamin-deficiency fear factor is exaggerated. That said, while scurvy is NOT a modern-day epidemic, there are certain vitamins & minerals that can be of benefit when added to the diet. B-12 can support energy levels, B-6 is good for the nervous system, and Zinc levels are oftentimes depleted in hard-training athletes - as are Magnesium and B-6. High protein intake also increases the need for B6, and zinc is particularly important for protein synthesis.
Many studies that examine the effects of certain vitamins and minerals use a supplement form, which indicates that the supplent form of many vitamins does demonstrate at least some absorption. I use a simple gelcap multi, and I aim to use gels as often as I can for the other stuff. I've seen some evidence that suggests that the absorption of liquid forms of vitamins are superior to the cake tablets.
I'm not a believer in mega-dosing vitamins. Toxicity levels aside, it seems there can be other problems associated with the practice.
I'm also skeptical of many studies done on OTC health supplements, plenty of which are paid for by a company or group that has agendas. That's one reason I try to keep an open mind and search for related (preferably non-biased) studies when determining anything about anything.

seal oil is fucking amazing

One point only on vit-d.
Even in winter time, only with your face and arms out for 30 minutes in the sun, your body produces 10.000 i.u. of vit-d.
I would only supplement it if you live somewhere up in the northern hemisphere from fall to spring or if you work inside (duh!!) and fully clothed (duh duh!!!!).
I take vit d 2-3 times a week high dose (3-5000 i.u.), mostly I manage to get enough sun exposure here to not having to worry about it.
-
Vit-D3 can also help in treating and preventing depression.

Yes!
That's a major point for people living in northern countries!

And, for people who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder.
I never get "depressed" during the winter months, but I noticed feeling a bit better mood-wise supplementing with Vit-D this last winter. Not saying it's a "magic cure" for all forms of mood disorders, but if vit-D deficiency is contributing to your depression, adding it may certainly help your symptoms!

Aside from vitamins, my use of supplements such as protein powders is near nothing now compared to the past. I havent noticed any difference at all by not using them.

what does seal oil do for you ???
Seal Oil is the best, most natural and balanced source of Omega 3. It is more similar to the omega-3 a human body is born with and therefore it is more easily absorbed into the system compared to any other omega-3 oil. Seal oil also has no additives, chemicals or toxins which fish oils are very high in. Seal oil also contains EPA, DHA (like fish oils) but also DPA which has been proven to make DHA and EPA more effective. It helps to elasticize heart and brain vessel walls aswell it acts as an anti inflammatory.
If you were interested in learning more, had any questions, or were looking for somewhere to get them for a good price please contact me
Thanks!

I just want to make sure that our new friend understands that solicitation of any kind is forbidden on this board, and that ALL of our friends here understand that it is not advisable to send personal information and/or monies to an anonymous person on a message board for any reason.
Although, if you'd like to send me 20 bucks, shoot me a PM and I'll help arrange the details.

I take seal oil myself, I am not trying to solicitate at all. I just know a few good places you can get it for a good price. And the seal oil has really been working for me :)

working how?
they are just oil capsules...
they have marginal health benefits over time
-
The biggest difference I've noticed is my skin has cleared up quite a bit, and my blood pressure has gotten to a much healthier level. I know it helps blood flow and that DPA is an anti inflammatory so I think that's why I noticed a difference in my gums as well, they were always very red and sensitive.
Works differently for everyone i guess
-
No
As Homo sapiens sapiens it's the same for all of us. It's doubtful that the benefits you claim are accurate. You are about to be moderated.
Have a nice day
-
I know for a fact that some people notice a difference much sooner than others, and because omega-3 can help many different issues it would make sense that I notice something that had been an issue before. It depends on where your body is deficient
Not everyone has ADHD for example so I wouldnt expect to be more focused, but someone who does may expect such results.

I would disagree, the end stage forms of b vitamins for example can do some pretty cool shit. Also, certain minerals have some major effects, magnesium just makes me feel better after several weeks on a decent dose.

No,there not a waste of money. But it does depend. I have used Daa a few times and well as AD3 by Lecheek aNd PES and had pretty solid reaults... Im not a fan of supps but there are aome i mess around with from time to time...Be it placebo or not, either way it helps.
