Going there June 27 to July 3rd. What are your guys' favourite spots?
(bodybuilding related): Staying at the Venetian - I heard their hotel has a gym, does anyone know if it's any good? Otherwise, I read that there's a Gold's shortly off the strip, any good gyms actually on the strip?
Is anyone else going to be there around the same time?

June 27th....great day....HA

Headed there this weekend with my wife for her 31st. My third trip of the year. I usually go twice a year. It has something to do for couples or single dudes. EDC is this weekend, if it were ten years ago I would've been down.

Absurd day rate, if I remember correctly.
Did Keith's gym ever get off the ground?

Venetian gym is ok. I think 30 bucks a day. Most gyms in the hotels on the strip are fine 4star plus... I always negotiate that with the front desk during check in. If you play they will comp gym visits, massages, etc...

$80 for a 3-day pass. ::)

Even if you're staying at the venetian you have to pay to use their gym? I didn't research much but I thought I read somewhere that the hotel has an extra $20 "resort fee" which has to be paid for each room when you check in, on top of their quoted rate (ex. if two people stay in a room or one person solo its still the same $20 resort fee) and I thought the resort fee covers the gym, but do you still have to pay extra?

The golds on flamingo road is closed yopu have to get a cab ride out to west lake mead dr. That is where you will find what you seek.
that sucks, i was thinking of checking that out, I think my local Gold's membership is supposed to work anywhere, not sure it's worth cabbing too far off the strip for a workout though. How far is west lake mead dr?

I don't care if you're a billionaire, if you pay 30.00 to use a bunch of machines for an hour......you're mental!

I believe so, but it's been several years since I've been there. A cab is going to run at least $30 bucks too.

The Venetian has The Canyon Ranch Spa. It is an excellent hotel gym. Excellent.
Expensive though.
-
For everyone saying it's expensive, was the drop-in or 3-day pass fee quoted to you as a guest at Venetian? i.e. were you staying at Venetian and they still charged you extra to use their gym, or were you staying at another hotel and just tried dropping in at their gym.
I'm going to be staying there, that's why I ask, my previous understanding is that as a guest at the hotel they let you use their gym for no drop-in charge (it's supposed to be included in the $20/day "resort fee" that you pay regardless of whether or not you actually work out).

I'd call them and check, but I believe you pay above and beyond the resort fee even if you're staying there. You might be able to schmooze your way out of it once you get there ;)

what about paying $30 for dinner, which is considered normal as long as its not done all the time

Now, that's a good comparison ::)

Yes it is. You pay extra for convenience - a dinner out is more convenient than cooking at home, and dropping in to a gym while on holidays in Vegas is more expensive than working out in your home city where your membership is.
By the way my local Gold's and World Health Club's charge $20/drop in.

Training should have zero to do with "convenience", LOL
You mean they charge 20 bucks for a day pass? How much is a month?
Just curious, since I'm from Europe (there's only one Gold's in my country, LOL)

BOBS, for a pretty good but very cheap steak dinner with a salad and baked potato and green beans, try the restaurant at Ellis Island on Koval Lane for something around $7.
ANd that even includes a huge home made beer and a complimentary $5 bet coupon.
Not on the menu though so you just gotta order the STEAK SPECIAL.
Get there early though cause they line em up at the busy meal times.
-
Hotel room pushups/situp and maybe a light run should be able to get you through the week. It's Vegas, man, give your body a rest from the gym.
-
Bob, don't pay for shit. Walk up the counter with your keys in hand and look the desk whore straight in the eyes and tell her you forgot your wallet in the locker and head in with a panicked rush about it, then workout for an hour and leave like nothing happened
-
it is hot as hell...just walk a mile a day...

Yeah its $20 a day or like $50 a month lol. So the drop in isn't meant for people who will use the gym more than 3 times a month, which is why they overcharge, because they know the target bodybuilder will be one who is there on holidays or decided to try the gym out once to work out with a girl he's trying to impress, either scenerio the person is willing to pay the $20. Same idea with Venetian, they know people in Vegas spend riduclous amounts of money on some stuff, so someone wanting to drop in will probably pay the $30.

Thanks for the idea, is that place walking distance to Venetian?

lol, I still believe I can go in for free because I'm staying at the Venetian - thats what I read online at least, will find out.

It's largely psychological, I know I'll be ingesting a huge amount of calories and will return some lbs heavier, so would like to counter it a bit by some medium intensity workouts during down-time between other activities.
-
I've stayed at the Venetian & Palazzo many times (they are sister properties that share the same casino.) Only once did they comp my gym charges, on a trip where I gave the casino a huge amount of action. The daily charge is definitely not included for hotel guest.
If you gamble, prior to check-out, ask for a casino host and ask your host if they can "help you with the bill" A casino host has quite a bit of latitude and can comp (take care off) any charges that appear on your bill.

Want a good workout...... fuck sluts in as many positions as possible.
It's Vegas.
What the hell is wrong with some people.

obsessing with being lean in order to get girls is something you do in your teens and early twenties

LOL, there's no business like smart business. In that sense, Americans are an inspiration for us Europeans.

TW, You are a bit mistaken about the Palazzo and the Venetian sharing the same casino, The only thing they share is the same owner.
As you most likely know .... there are two very different casinos ... One in the Palazzo and the other in the Venetian and you offer great advice about contacting the Slot Host or the Pit Bosses to inquire about getting your final bill reduced.
Of course that's mainly done for the big time gamblers but just last month my three night hotel room stay was turned into a three night comp]'t vacation because I merely asked politely ... and I am a cheap ass gambler ,,, but on this occasion I happened to win a few more bucks than I usually do and as a result I played longer and they upgraded my player's club card so now I get a free gift every week plus more comps than I can ever use.
This all happens at Boyd's Orleans which is off the Strip.
The Orleans and the other locals' casinos offer us Las Vegans comps in the form of cash, booz, food, room nights, gifts, etc. that I save to give away as Christmas presents just to get you inside so the place will look crowded to the out of state visitors.
Try a local's hotel/casino on your next trip. You;ll be seeing a major difference.
