Title: What's your ideal size/shape?
Post by: Rhomboids on June 22, 2012, 04:26:13 PM
I've been working out for 20yrs.  At 5'7" got up to 195lbs and decently cut.  Did a few natural shows between 17 and 21.  Been training heavy duty since 1995: 3x a week, 45mins a workout - though now an hour since i'm doing ten mins of intense cardio (for me).

On a good week, i'm close to 190 though i don't see the same fullness from when i was 20.  On a bad week when i miss a meal i'm down to low 180s and feel skinny as shit.  My knees are done and can't squat heavy.  Other joints are pretty good.  I like training heavy, or intensely, all the time.  It's the gym that serves as the place to get out all my stress.  Doing fucking kettlebells bullshit wouldn't do it for me.

Anyways, though i'd like to be bigger, i can't find a reason to spend the money on food that i'd need to stay at and over 190lbs solely for the purpose of...nothing.  I do enjoy being in great shape so as someone that competed before, my goal is to always look better than any average person that casually workouts.  I want to look like Steve Sax would playing on a Sunday Beer League.

How do you dudes stay motivated if you're not employed in the fitness industry?  What's your ideal size for your height?

Can a gay member please confirm the gay tendencies such a "ideal size/shape", "decently cut", "fullness", "knees are done" (not sure if he meant wearing kneecaps as well), "be bigger".

IMO this is pretty much as close as a white guy can expect to come to a size/ shape ideal- considering symmetry, balance and muscularity.

black guys like wheeler early in his pro career come to mind also.

what is decently cut?

the ideal shape is obviously being lean, bc thats when everybody looks their best.

motivation comes from long gone permabulker days, this drives me to never become like that again.or i go to a mcdonalds and have a look at the morbidly obese customers there, makes dieting easier.

btw if youre anything "cut" at those numbers, then youre not natural.

so either youre not cut or not natty.

Tell this to 90% of the black population involved in athletics. Some people have better genetics bro-hammer.

I personally don't want to be ridiculously large.

I think once I reach this level of development I will just begin the "cruise phase" and go to gym just for fun....
Reasonably lean and looking like you lift even when clothed but still not too big for the ladies:

Lotta gayness up in this thread...guys claiming the ideal shape is some dude.

Frankly, I prefer this, but then I guess, I'm the minority around here.

You want to look like that  ???

Given my age, genetics, height and bone structure, which are: 67, ectomorph, 5'11" and medium to large boned, I believe my ideal weight is somewhere between 180 and 190 lbs. Presently, I am not at my ideal. In my adult life, I have weighed as little as 155 lbs and as much as 225 lbs. Losing weight has not been much of a problem for me, while trying to maintain 225 lbs. meant that I was stuffing my face with food all the time and never skipping a workout.

My ideal build would be that of John Grimek.

At 29, natural and 5'8 the heaviest I've been is 91 kg's, just over 200 pounds and could have gotten heavier if I continued with the bulking.

But now I've cut down to about 87 kg's and I think I look a lot better, especially facially and am also still just as strong and feel quicker and a lot more athletic.

In the future I will try bulking again and try for 220 pounds and then trim down again.

Paris, Strydom, Demay.

Newman had a very good build but his chest wasn't up to par and he could have kept his waist tighter.

He had a great physique, cuts and shape where it needed to be. But i think chest is probably the most important muscle group.
