...with the king of exercises, squats!
This one with father and son starts friendly, but the son fails to deliver what he claims he can squat.
And these two Dutchmen, both formal competitors. Sure, blame it on the junk food ::)
-
So kodie did what 400?
His dad did 2XX?
Melvin throw up and did 350?
White dude did 400 and tore his hamstring? :-\

No shit, he was a much better bodybuilder too.

Is this for real or is it a piss take , they've made a coaching video
for 4 sets of squats ! 20 reps with warm up weights !
Fukin awesome ..... ?
-
Epic bullshit.
Few facts:
- Kevin hasn't done squats for the most part of his career.
- Kevin's leg workouts were piss poor and low intensity judging from his own training videos
- It is very fucking easy to make someone puke by doing endless dropsets and high rep sets of squats and then shout that this is what makes a difference blah blah, bullshit. First of all, what is the fucking point? Is that optimal for hypertrophy, which is the ultimate goal? Or is it yet one another "hard work" myth? Training has to be well structured and intelligent, going to the point you can puke is fucking easy, at least for me. Creating your regimen so you can have optimal gains isn't.

Mr. Levrone

People who pride themselves in puking during a "tough" workout are blatant homosexual fairy's.

Agree on all points. Maybe Kevin should actually practice what he preaches himself... ::)

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D the Cody vid made me laugh
Kevin deserves a sandow just for that video best bbibg video or training I've seen so far this year.
A lot of people love to talk a lot of bullshit.. 500 for reps huh showed up in a skin tight gay suit ... Can't even hit 225 for 20 ha ha ha ha ha and yet you can do 500 for reps ha ha ha

Maybe they should actually try to focus on the weight that was talked/bragged about and not 225?? There is something called being rep-strong you know. There is no reason at all to doubt that he can push a lot more weight for reps, and the movie was ridicolous for not showing that. This was more of a endurance workout rahter than a strength workout, and therefor holds no value or proof at all...
-
I can do 140kg front squat for 5. My friend's got similar strength to mine, yet he can rep 120kg front squat for 20, which is completely impossible for me. As the weight goes up we get more even.
Also, I cannot just comprehend stupidity of people who claim squat to be "dangerous" and that you can "build quads using machines". Well, apparently, you can, but... Here comes a big but: it's way more dangerous.
Let's just take a look at olympic lifters. Have you ever heard of Klokov tearing his quads? Or basicly anyone? And yet every second bodybuilder has something torn or destroyed in their leg area. Why? Because they use machines more, which not only is way more dangerous in itself due to unnatural movement (may be not the case for all machines) but creates huge imbalance in muscular development which leads inevitably to contusions.
My conclusion is - should you learn how to squat? Hell yeah. Should you listen to mr Levrone? Maybe not. If you really wanna know anything about leg training go to your local weightlifting facility. And I said weightlifting, not powerlifting. They're full of shit too.

I've done that 4 times 225 for 20 as part of a workout.... Before and the only reason I did it was because I have problematic knees since high school and my knee was acting up... And I did that after leg presses ... And I can't remember the last time Ive squat 500 probably 6 years ago so I KNOW. If someone is banging 500 correction the guy said OVER 500 the 225 for 20 x 4 is child's play...

High rep squats = cardio. Plus the guy puked from levrone's posing trunk flavored supplement

I have to dissagree. I can lift a lot of weight for fewer reps, but the rep range doesnt change that much if I use lesser weights. Like I said, their is a difference being strong endurance wise and explosive wise. I probably couldnt do 225 for 20 reps, but Ive trained with as much as 400 pounds for 5 reps. The point is that the video does not prove anything. If he wanted to see if they were lying, why didnt they just go for the 500 pound weights?? Im not saying they are NOT lying, but Im pretty sure by looking at that kids quads that he has a lot of strength in him. And what IFBB pro does squats for 20 reps for sets?? Ive seen a lot of bodybuilding movies, and that is not the case ever. I can only think of Lee Priest that uses that kind of rep range. Its just Kevin wanting to exhaust them with endurance training to try to make a "point"... Well he failed miserably.

Not necessarily,.....depends, if you have been only training heavy in recent leg workouts and kept reps low as in under 6 for say 4 months straight and then jump to 225 for 4 sets of 20, you will still have a hard time getting through them from the lactic acid.
-
I am now at the point where I have the knee aches. It takes me a lot longer to warm up. Almost every leg press i get on seems to aggravate them if I do the presses first. If I squat first, then leg press, I am ok as long as I go slow or if I wrap my knees. I LOVE the feel of heavy squats. The high rep stuff has taken some getting used to.
I do agree with whats been said here. Take a guy who does exclusively heavy weight, then throw him into some crazy high rep thing. You will have puke in no time. I recall trying a routine from Musclemag a long time ago. I squatted heavy, and just wanted a change. It was like this:
Take a weight you squat for 15, and a weight you leg curl for 15. You will do ONLY 12 reps for 3 sets on squats, resting 60 - 75 seconds between sets. Then you do the same for leg curls (3 sets). Wait 2 mins, then repeat.
I managed 4 rounds of this, and was on the floor of the gym for about 20 mins. Mid way through it, about the 2nd round or so of squats, when you start your squats the weight feels like its double for about 1 - 2 reps, then light, then fatigue kicks your ass and the weight doubles again. LOL.
Takes about 30 mins to do this workout. Never really felt much with other muscle groups like the article said (chest/back or bi/tri).

Got to hand it to the kid, at least he didn't cave like the old man and got some douchey tattoos.

He's wearing little "fitness girl" shorts. WTF?

Have you ever tried 225 for 20? I've always trained fairly heavy but always been able to bang reps. I can't see someone able to bang 500 + and can't do 225 for 20 . He started to cave from rep 10...
Squatting 500 deep is no joke....... there are squats and then there are SQUATS.

I've always thought reps of 6 and under we're for strongmen and power lifters.. That kid looks like more of a bber to me. I've seen some of your training and you train heavy and you banged reps (chest press)
That's like someone saying I can bang 500 on the bench but can't do 225 for 20 ... No way.
Cody started to buckle from rep 10 with 225 .... :-\
You know as well as I do a lot of lifts are just gym fables many guys say I can bench 315 for reps translation a friend is pulling the weight off their chests for every rep, or you hear guys say I can squat 500lbs .. Translation
He unracked the weight stood there and did a 1/18 range of the movement it even bending the knees....

Levrone had back problems at some point early in his career, if I remember right? That's why he couldn't go all out on squats or legs in general. Check the '92 Olympia, his legs are sick. Dude had prob the best genetics ever. Lastly squats aren't even nessasary for great legs. Big ass, yes
-
I bet they go to clubs with that video tape and get the DJ to put it on the big screen to show all the club goes how hardcore they are. Then they get A LOT of women.

Big ass unfortunatelly is a part of equation IF you care about proportional development of your physique from biomechanical point of view. Some gluteus maximus development is essential OR you will dramatically increase likelyhood of terrible injuries.

Some pics of Jonathan Later from 2009 (light heavy / -90kg class). He had decent conditioning, but shitty structure :-\

Of course man... that video made me laugh ....
ok if we are talking endurance if cody had start to fail on the 3rd set, then i would concede maybe his training style is more explosive and the set and reps had taken its toll..... but he started to waver after set 1 , 10 reps in.... Im guessing as well kevin made him GO deeep thats what messed him up.... probably not used to that range of motion
I wish he would do one just like this for bench press abusers....

This thread is irrelevant. We got our own squat video on getbig....

I think the vid proves the kid and his pops are full of shit, use improper form and can't squat worth a shit. the kid had some good thighs but only compared to his weak upperbody. I never squatted ass deep. My ankles don't allow me to go down that deep without raising my heels off the ground. I did it to parallel and could get up to 500-515 but with a spotter acting like a weightlifting suit on me.
I'd never brag about how much weight i lifted but i could sure as hell do 225x20 with no problem - even today with my knees completely gone to shit. I tried high rep squatting after that pic of Tom Platz on Ironman and the article in it. All i'd get is exhuasted and a good pump, but no size to speak off. ]
Great ownage either way though.

None of my threads are 'irrelevant', Dr Snuggles.
BTW, do you perform squats in your home gym?

I hate squats, but I do them after the leg press (got an ancient LP machine).

A shameful confession, I stopped doing squats (and deadlifts as well) because of lower back & hip problems.
My "gym" has 3 leg presses, but all of them are shitty. That modern stuff can't beat a decent 45 degree leg press.

So what, Levrone is some squat master?
The guy doesn't know more about squatting than your average gym rat.
And for the record, this kid would get smashed under a 500-pound squat ... if he was going to depth.

The 'average gym rat' doesn't even train legs in my place.
I believe you can learn from anybody; their knowledge and/or mistakes, but Kev has good education skills.

Or under 315 and remember he said he squats over 500lb.
