This reveals the success of the confrontational politics practiced by Ron Paul, Rand Paul, and the Campaign for Liberty: http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2012/aug/20/romney-supports-audit-fed/ (http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2012/aug/20/romney-supports-audit-fed/)
Of course, Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and the Democrat leadership has aligned itself against auditing this private banking monopoly run by unelected officials with the power to create money out of thin air. But they're fighting for the working class man, right?

Step 1) Suck up to the base leading up to the convention so they dont embarass his ass
Setp 2) Get into office and make sure the bill never reaches his desk

Of course you think that. You have never been politically active a day of your life. But this is not a case of mere political pandering. Grassroots libertarian-conservative activists, mostly acting underneath the umbrella group Campaign for Liberty and by the direction of Ron Paul and Rand Paul, have managed to get 2/3 of the House to cosponsor the Audit the Fed bill and then they managed to get it passed with a 3/4 vote. Here in Michigan, we got all of our Republican Congressmen to cosponsor the bill. How did we do this? By understanding confrontational politics and consequently applying pressure on politicians. Most politicians are mostly interested in being elected, so they are very sensitive to any kind of organized group that can inflict political pain on them. This is not Romney pandering - but of him realizing that there is a new powerful grassroots pressure group out there that he'll have to play ball with if he wants to succeed.

what is the diff between pandering and suddenly having a position, 6 years into a presidential campaign, "realizing he needs to get the base on board with him 1 week before the convention" ?

yeah, i didn't change affiliation to vote for a guy who was skipping the race.
BUT
if someone was beating up a shopkeeper on my block, everyone in this damn room knows I wouldn't stand there because "I didn't want to get involved".
I guess we all choose to get involved in our own ways dude.

No one knows shit about what you'd do. Judging from your posts here, you would do nothing. You're a skinny/fat, balding bitch who carries a gun. Big fucking deal, tough guy.
Regardless, you couldn't stop stuffing your face with fast food long enough to vote for Paul.
