Title: Wyoming?
Post by: The Italian Lifter on September 05, 2012, 07:47:35 AM

Can I ask to the good people here some information about this state?

Of course nothing that can be found on wiki or similar but something really interesting: how people are, particular places, interesting things/fatcs, etc etc

---

BB related: is there a pro from Wyoming?

Wyoming is an extremely beautiful place.

Especially Jackson Hole!

Mountains....clean air.....great sleeping weather too......in the summertime it will get to 85 degrees....and at night it will drop to 58-60. Great river rafting on the Snake River. If you are an outdoorsman.....This is your place!

Very lovely part of the USA.

You can buy a parcel of land that is hundreds of acres in size for the same price as a cookie cutter home in Cali.

my dream would be to do so in future, but first I'll go there 3 or 4 times on holidays to see things with my eyes.

Cold, windy, water scarce just like any other western state, pretty country though. I liked New Mexico better but water is a deal breaker.

Which are the cons in your opinion?

I think of getting there for the beauty of nature, for tranquility, look for an outdoor job.

My concern is about people acceptance towards someone which comes from outside US, and also because many italian have a bad rep abroad, sadly.

If your worried about people's "acceptance" the more middle of the country you go the more "good ole boys" it'll be. Go somewhere it doesn't snow like California, plus bodybuilding friendly :D. I personally think San Diego is the best city in California. If you want a cookie cutter answer here goes: if you want a faster life move to So cal, if you want a more normal life move to No cal. If your rich move to la jolla (i like it better than newport). If your gay move to SF. If you like it wide open and nature move to Sacramento or further north. California's huge take a few trips and feel it out.

Big plus football(nfl)comes on at 10am on Sunday's, and you will always be able to catch your futball(soccer)at a bar when there's games ;). Nobody cares about race there either you being from Italy wouldn't be an issue like it could be in other states

Oh yeah one more thing it's always sunny and only rains in jan and feb

Sorry, but after living in California, I would NEVER move there. Especially with the whole state going bankrupt now. Only positivie thing Cali has is weather and women, which you can find many other places that don't involve dealing with Cali's shitty monetary policies, politics or pretentious people.

DO NOT move to California. Their economy is collapsing and the state is going bankrupt. Plenty of other places in the country with a stronger economy and nice weather. Although most Californians will never admit it, lol.

Wyoming is notorious for having brutal winters and extremely high wind speeds. Once that current catches you on that icy road there is basically nothing you can do to stop it.

A. Not from Wisconsin.
B. I lived in Oceanside at Camp Pendleton, so I didn't have to deal with worrying about a job. California is a beautiful state, but its going bankrupt faster than any other state in the Country.

I live in Washington (which I also hate), and the amount of Californians fleeing from your state to come here is outrageous. Guess thats what happens when your cities are all going bankrupt.

Not to mention that if you've ever paid taxes in California and then moved out of state, they try and chase you down and get more tax money from you, even though you don't live there anymore. For some reason they believe that even if you're no longer living/working in Cali, you still owe them a chunk of your check.

Texas was pretty good when I lived there. I've only lived in 3 states, Wa, Ca, and Tx, and Tx was by far the best for me. Although the humidity was a fucking killer in the summer.

Where in Wyoming exactly? That is crucial. If you can live in or near Jackson Hole etc, or near by Idaho and the Tetons, lower Montana, all beautiful! Southern Wyoming is pretty baron type desert with rolling hills and lots of wind. If you are lookin for something serene and quiet look just outside resort towns in the surrounding states but still be prepared for narrow minded locals, there will be rednecks who are pretty damn ignorant to anyone with an accent unlike theirs. A lot of Wyoming is very very small town, I live in SLC UT there are lots of small towns near here and I have been to most of the larger cities in the surrounding states, I would say stay close to something closer to a "city". Places to look into, White Fish Montana, Jackson Hole Wyoming, Boise Idaho, Denver Colorado, Park City Utah, or smaller surrounding cities to these, all very beautiful and closer to "normal" people.

This post was really intersting for me Ronnyg: you gave me points to think about.
I would like to avoid the ones you call "narrow minded locals", or in any case I hope that if I make the final decision and settle near them they'll eventually accept me.
Do you think in the long run this can be possible or generally speaking rednecks are not willing to accept anyone.
Please do consider that I'm not racist in saying this, I simply don't know so I ask.

Oh really? Go ahead and pay for an appraiser to estimate your home and I guarantee you'll change your tune very quickly. So many homeowners are delusional when it comes to knowing the true value of their home within their respective market.

CA's housing market is absolutely sunk beyond belief. 90% of all the homes in that state are NOT appreciating in value.

Bullshit...How are you calculating your math and what are you basing it on? How does 10% = 100K??

Ca's housing market is horrid, plain and simple. One of the worst states to own a house for the lower-upper middle class. I didn't say that 90% was dead on balls accurate because the number is probably higher.

It's a buyer's market in nearly every state becuse values continue to depreciate due to crazy amounts of short sales and foreclosures. From the homeowner's point of view, why continue to dump thousands of dollars in interest every month into a depreciating asset that you never intended to live in, long-term?

Bullshit...  http://realtytimes.com/rtmcrcond/California~Orange_County~gerrygoodman

Even a lower end condo, since you asked for the math, 10% X 300k= 30k

So the guy who said he made a 100k isn't really that far fetched considering a modest home is 500-700k
The math on that again for you would be 50-70k profit. He would be slightly above avg. home wise even if he's not doing it all himself (a lot of women have good jobs), IMHO I don't think 100k profit is to hard to believe...

all americans talk a big game on getbig, but irl there are very few crazy xenophobes.  wyoming is fine unless you decide to go park yourself next to some militia compound. the issue is that you're going to get bored as fuck - this is coming from someone who loves the outdoors.  as an european you don't realize the scale of the US (even if you've visited you've forgotten).  even if you live in jackson hole, you're still going to be several hours away from a real city. by plane.

Never thought about it, honestly.
I just would like to live a lot outdoors taking care of my ranch and animals, sick and tired of responsabilities, all day long in office, never ending meetings, business trips...too old for this shit now.

owning a decent sized piece of property is a lot of work, having cattle or other livestock is a lot of work.
Wait until its balls ass cold and all the water freezes and those cattle need somethig to drink, wait until its 10 below zero and that tractor won`t start and those cattle need hay, yup no responsibilties out here on the farm.

I did pay an appraiser

I paid for an appraisal in December 2010 when I refinanced my house and again in July of 2012 when I refinanced again.  The appraised value in July 2012 was 109k greater than in December 2010

The July 2012 appraisal had 2 closed sales from within my development (all the same builder) that were model matches to mine.   One of these sales was a block away from my house

If you don't belive any of that you can check out the bay area real estate prices from 2011 to 2012 (I live in Santa Clara county)

What was that you were saying again about being delusional and not knowing  the true value of my home in my respective market ?

What a house appraises for and what it sells for are two different things.

Why not somewhere in europe where things are actually cheap, and the weather is actually good?

Maybe it's the old italian convinction that US is a better place, always and everywhere

I know that for sure, I have many friends who are farmers, it's also a hard work.
I guess spending years in a office eventually took its toll.

no shit but then you're the one who brought up the appraisal in the first place

like I said, there are 2 closed sales (both virtual model matches) one of which was a block away from my house (my location is better - I'm at the end of a cul de sac)

One sold for 20k more than the appraised value of my house and the other sold for 5k more than the appraised value of my house
