I'm not going to tell this female friend to go see any kind of specialist before I pick the minds of getbig. Answers here tend to be more accurate anyway :)
"I've been very dizzy lately when standing up. 4 times in the last week, I stood up and got so dizzy my vision went black, I fell to the floor and became unconscious. I wake up not knowing where I am or what's going on for a few seconds and I am sweaty. People that have seen it happen say I'm unconscious for 15-30 seconds each time. I went to the ER. My blood pressure was very low and my heart rate was so high they ordered an EKG, but it came out fine."
- 30 year old female. 5 foot 3, 110 pounds. otherwise good health, moderately active.
Any advices from getbig? Thanks!

I recommend PIITB.

First thing that comes to mind is low blood pressure. Then maybe low iron. Is she a muscular 110 or a skinny-fat 110?

I'd say skinny fat would be the best description. definitely not a gyum goer, but active. she's guessing low BP. I'm not sure how they treat that. I told her to take ECA :D
-
She`s preggers hope this helps

lol > ECA ;D
What are the circumstances when she faints? Really sounds like low BP and could be as simple as increasing water and electrolytes. You probably aren't aware weather she has amenorrhea or not ...
-
Orthostatic hypotension with syncope secondary to dehydration. High heart rate means low blood volume means heart has to pump faster to compensate.
I recommend an injection of petercillin. May also administer dose sublingually.
-
shes not consuming enough sugar
i got dizzy as fuck when i was super lean
so i had to get fatter because eating was the only thing that kept me from feeling faint or dizzy even though i really wasnt hungry (http://i45.tinypic.com/idxc2c.jpg) (http://i45.tinypic.com/3347ryd.jpg)

She responded:
3 times I was squatting down talking and when I stood up it happened, the other time I just got out of bed and went down on the bathroom floor. Nothing out of the ordinary going on. No amenorrhea, no other physical problems, no drugs, but I am smoker. Just keep standing up and fainting for no reason and I'm dizzy all the time in between. I did have low blood pressure at the hospital so that's probably it.

have her watch this movie

That's what happens when with low blood pressure stands up fast. Go to the doc and get the blood pressure treated.

Fainting is pain leaving the body
-
pregnancy could be the issue....
other issue could be internal bleeding (need an MRI) or anemia (need blood work)...
thanks to the american health care system both will bankrupt her

It really does sound like orthostatic hypotension (extremely low BP) which is quite serious. A fluctuation in BP throughout the day is normal, but in her case it seems to be more than that (happening at different times). She should really get back to a Dr. What if it happened while she was driving or something...?
I have pretty low BP on a consistent basis and get lightheaded going from low to high quickly, but it's always within the normal range. There have been times though, when I've been turned away from donating blood. One time I did faint, but that was about 12 hours after donating blood and it was about 100 degrees out.

Here's an article from earlier this year.

Sounds more serious than low iron. Not to say she may also have low iron, which is very common.
And yes, maybe pregnant.

Look up all the causes of "orthostatic hypotension." One of those.

Yes, good seasoned cast iron cookware (not the coated stuff) leaches iron into the food. For the most part it's a good thing, especially for women. That's not to say you should go out and start cooking everything in cast iron (men), because too much iron in men can build up and be harmful.

What color was her pee (serious question) before getting fluids at the hospital?
-
Tell her it looks like her boyfriend/husband found some of her emails talking about recent sexual encounters with other men and he most likely is poisoning her drinks with visine drops.

I guess I haven't given it much thought since I don't cook with it (mostly use All-Clad, anodized, cast iron, stainless steel...) When I bake cookies, I line the sheets with a Silpat or parchment.
If you're referring to the Alzheimer's connection: I think the jury is still out on that one ??? We're probably getting more aluminum via antiperspirant and other "cosmetics".
BUT, you do raise a valid point and I will start paying a little more attention every time I pull out a pan. I do have a tendency to line some pans with foil for easier cleanup which I will be re-thinking - thank you.
One thing that may not be common knowledge though... don't cook high acid foods in (reactive) metal (like tomato based things). It causes discoloration and a metallic taste.

I use it to line pans and trays as well and wondered if that will result negatively on our future health. I hope not. I did not know about acid foods and metal though, I will keep that in mind. Thank you.

http://www.thrillist.com/travel/nation/scary-roller-coaster-kid-passes-out-on-roller-coaster-video
Most people, when they're being catapulted nearly 400ft into the air, scream. And if they've eaten a $14 sandwich and $9 Coke recently, there's a good chance they'll puke, too. That's an expensive hurl.
But one trailblazing young man on a recent visit to Orlando's Magical Midway theme park had quite a different reaction to the Sling Shot -- a ride that does exactly what it sounds like, hurling potential hurlers 390ft up and back down again. This now Internet-famous kid completely passed out -- not once, not twice, but three times! In between, he gets in his fair share of screams, too.
He's like an acrophobic narcoleptic, or something.
Watch the video and just try not to laugh...

What are you, a hobo? Posting from the side of the railroad tracks, kerchief satchel tied to one end of a stick? Buy a damn pan already.
You can hit the other hobos with it.

I had this issue too. Would get dizzy and see black for 5-10 seconds when standing, And was almost always in the morning.
Never fainted thought.
Dr. told me I wasnt hydrated enough. Drinking an extra glass of water every 30 minutes does help
-
Fifteen seconds is a little short, but if she was out for the whole 30 seconds I could finish.

Try adding some sea salt to your meals.

Signs of Orthostatic Hypotension... As one normally rises from a supine (lying position), there is an automatic decrease in blood pressure.(blood pooling in the lower limb veins due to gravity).. Normally, our body naturally senses this imbalance of pressure and responds by extra release of NE Norepinephrine (Kicking in our sympathetic drive) Here, one must look at all the possibilities of this insufficiency. Whether it is a 1) renal problem, 2)endocrine-hormonal issue, 3) thyroid, etc. The dizziness can be explained by the less cardiac output due to pooling of blood in the non-compliant veins= which would mean less saturation of O2 circulating-systemically throughout the body. Remember, the brain demands 02 at all times and this might explain the unconsciousness/dizzy spell. Diabetics tend to have poor circulation and develop peripheral neuropathy (at later stages )and sensing this imbalance can be very troublesome for these individuals. Simply being dehydrated might explain certain acute conditions, but if this is a chronic(ongoing problem) > There can be more problematic pathologies to look into.

Given her good health , age, and size... Look into her responses w/ water intake..Is she always thirsty regardless of drinking water? ADH problems can be due to Neurogenic diabetes or Nephrogenic diabetes.... Here, it may be due to a pituitary problem or a Kidney (ADH receptor) problem... Checking for circulating levels of ADH before administration and after may very well give insight into the problem.
