In your opinion...health wise and for fat loss?
-
I would guess sugar, but that is based on absolutely nothing but a guess.
-
sugar - the white death
first step imo in losing weight is to cut out (added) sugar
-
neither is bad
the only food that seems bad is heme-iron containing foods bad for liver and kidneys
all foods are fine
all foods are going to effect your bloodsugars, so just burn them off with activity
alchol is bad for liver
thats about it
-
Sugar
-
sugar. x 100,000,000
if sugar was introduced now, be banned instantly, it fails a load of food additive tests...
-
Sugar.
-
80s said fat, 90s said sugar, 00s said fat and sugar, 10s say everything is bad
-
Without 1 doubt, saturated fats.

Sugar, no question
I think more and more studies are showing that all fats can be beneficial, and that sugar is like poison.
-
The body runs on sugar, why would it be poison? It even produces it if not present in sufficient quantities.
-
Sugar. Saturated fat not bad, trans fat is however.

I'm sorry, I'm talking about simple/refined sugar.
-
Simple refined sugar is bad.
-
I've yet to see 1 (university educated) nutritionist or sports nutritionist advise saturated fat over even simple sugars. Of course you don't want to eat too many of your carbs in the form of refined sugars (because of them being empty calories and the blood sugar drop, no other reasons) but I and they still consider them harmless. But nothing is really harmful as long as you are not overeating/fat.
-
I like those glucose jelly beans though. :P
-
what about everything is bad if abused? ::)

Very true. There has been some studies done, which suggest that simple refined sugars accelerate aging though.

Booty is right on. Glycation is a mechanism where sugars combine with protein and skin loses its elasticity and internal organs become rigid. So much for "calorie is a calorie"
-
I have a sweet tooth which I keep under control but I'm going to try cutting out all simple refined sugars completely. The only sugar ill get everwill be from fruit and greek yogurt and dairy like cottage cheese. On and off season. I'm curious as to what difference this will make. I see no reason for these simple white sugars ever. However I'm sure ill be withdrawing for awhile.
-
LOL uberman, great contribution to this thread.
-
well, both can be fine in moderation, both are bad in excess, however because saturated fat intake is so strongly correlated with heart disease and a host of other diseases when total calorie intake is high enough, im gonna have to go with saturated fat.
-
i'd rather do anything than taking nutritional advice from tbomz... ::)
-
Lol I had to do class on research and I chose heart disease cuz there's such an abundance of research on it.
-
"Nautilus" = Not Ill Less
so are you saying that nautilus is good or bad?
btw, how's your bench?
-
Sugar (not 'sugars' ie fruits) imo is the first thing that has to go when you're doing ANY form of a BB of fitness diet.
Saturated fat is not too evil in reasonable amounts as long as you are within your calorie limits and the diet is clean everywhere else

Why?
I'm sure the daily Vitargo/Karbolyn drinks containing pure sugar that people drink post workout are not harmful at all. The daily steak they eat a few hours later on the other hand ...
(of course 1 steak a day isn't going to be harmful but you get the point)

Read Gary Taubes. Taubes books are pretty enlightening. It is interesting how fats behave/are processed in the presence of excessive carbohydrates. The theory that a calorie is a calorie is not exactly true. Fats, proteins and carbohydrates are all processed differently by the body.
-
Gary Taubes is considered a major quack. He's also not an educated nutritionist so I would never take any of his advise if I were you.
-
Great book by an actual nutritional scientist:

The book is really a dissection of nutritional studies, recommendations and conventional medical wisdom on diet. Taubes isn't coming up with his own theories on eating and it is in no way a diet book. I would read it before you form any judgement. From the tone of your reply I get the impression you have a false impression of what his books are about.

This books is sports specific and not really relevant to what Taubes writes about. I will give the book you suggested a read.
-
sugar is worse with regards to "health"
but as far as "looks" are concerned, "diet" means nearly nothing, it's ALL in the training

In that case I will look into them. But still, there are nutritional scientists providing information, why not just listen to them? I hope no one thinks they all have an agenda and are providing false information?

Ill do the same with the book you suggested. I appreciate the suggestion.

Which Taubes' book do you recommend? So basically the only thing he does is look for flaws in studies? Then why the fuck is everyone saying he has his own diet recommendations and promotes a low carb diet? :P
-
Why? ;D
because sugar has almost ZERO nutrutional (sp?) value, while saturated fat has some value
-

The foods that contain the saturated fat yes but the fat itself? Take deep frying oil for instance which is pure saturated fat.

What does it have that is beneficial for you apart from energy?
-
Let's re-phrase the question:
Who here would rather drink 500 kcals of saturated fat in the form of deep frying oil each day (made into a drink that tastes ok, if that is possible haha), and who would rather drink 500 kcals of any of the commercial sports drinks containing only pure sugar each day?
Disregarding the taste, I'd be 100% sure my health would not be negatively impacted by the 500 kcals of sports drinks, while it probably would be negatively impacted by the 500 kcals of deep frying oil.
Both chemicals in a fair 1 vs 1. (stripped of their carrier foods)

it raises test levels

Saturdated is not bad. Hydrogenated oils are the fucking devil. The body doesn't even know how to use it for fuel.

is that tbombs in his avatar pic? looks good but 100% roids

About 50% roids 50% semen

by the way BigC, did The Shitels happen to have any opinions on this topic?

Refined sugars!
-
saturated cock is good for you
hope this helps

When I go no carb, or even just cut refined sugar I get an awesome boost. The skin on my face looks fucking amazing within two days, I have way more energy, no cravings. Works out really good.
Maybe it's just me, but I can't handle sugar.
Give it ten years, and we'll all be saying what idiots we were about demonizing fat.

Go suck a dick.
Maybe you should lay off the pudding pops booty..oh sorry i was looking at your chest :D

Saturated Sugars are the worst.

body runs on glycogen, not sugar.
all in all, on humanity timescale, all carbs are pretty recent dietary additions for humans.
"Gluconeogenesis (abbreviated GNG) is a metabolic pathway that results in the generation of glucose from non-carbohydrate carbon substrates such as pyruvate, lactate, glycerol, and glucogenic amino acids."
-
the difference between saturad fats and unsaturated fats from looking at them physically is one thing:the saturated are not liquid.
Did you reply to the wrong quote here?
-

Bingo!
One or two million years of eating only meats and greens and suddenly we think potatoes and simple sugar should be part of our diet.
-
diets mean everything.everything.
natural or not.
try training with only eating jelly or only beer or only drinking icetea.
it wont be any good
sorry dude, but that's a ridiculous statement, coz who the fuck is just gonna eat just one thing throughout the day? no one

::) Tell that to the pancreas and the insulin released into the blood and the ensuing insulin resistance that follows, I'm not even getting into the atherosclerosis that also takes place eventually leading to CHD

Athletes must be terribly fucked then!
Unfortunately for you, they aren't.

We found it later so it shouldn't be part of our diet, epic reasoning ::)
