LAS VEGAS — New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, the GOP’s most prominent Latina, chastised Mitt Romney’s rhetoric Thursday and called on the Republican Party to play ball on immigration reform.
“We have to start electing people who look like their communities all the way from city council to county commissioners to county clerks all the way through the state and up into national politics,” she told POLITICO and Yahoo News at the conclusion of the Republican Governors Association meeting here.

“We need to embrace them not just at election time,” she added. “We visit them, and they don’t appreciate that. And I don’t blame them for not appreciating that. We should not visit them when we need their vote and then walk away. And then four years go by and we go visit them again. We have to make them part of the solution, and the way you do that is by listening to them.”

Martinez joined hannity and a few other repubs in the SUDDEN change in position that many of them engaged in - all at once - just 2 weeks after losing the 2012 election.
Now that Obama is going to House Repubs to get his Amnesty bill - This week he's starting - Will she join with Obama and follow thru with her quote here? I hope not.
This was a quiet, non-story way back in 2012 when it came out after the election. Looks meaningful now.

No one has a problem with electing Hispanics to positions.
But, you don't need amnesty to do that.
A republican that calls for amnesty is calling for continued disobedience of the law, calling for the further destruction of the middle class, calling for the destruction of the sovereignty of the USA and calling for the destruction of the GOP. These people are stupid.
Maybe someone should ask this "strong latina" if amnesty is the way to go for the GOP to gain support from hispanics, how come in 1988 Bush only received 30% of the hispanic vote while Dukakis got 69% after Reagan passed amnesty? These socialists, most of whom refuse to assimilate, will not vote Republican. They are coming from some of the worst economies in the world and many of them will vote for the party (the dumocrats) that gives them entitlements at the expense of taxpayers.
-
Dems have always been the lawbreaking party, willing to completely piss on the law because it's morally mean. You know, it's cool to steal if you're hungry and all that.
Now it seems like repubs are embracing this fccked up philosophy too. I suppose if it's okay for mexicans to cross border because they need the $, it's also okay for iraqis and people from places like afghanistan and N Korea to ALSO come here illegally? This whole "open up the borders for those in need" doesn't just apply to hispanics who sway elections. It will extend to people from syria and china and everywhere else. Just let em in. I'm sure their intentions are all love.

Exactly right...
If this passes, it will go down in history as the straw that broke america's back. Future historians will look back at this and laugh and say 'wtf were they thinking???'

oh...so we have to elect leadership that looks like communities...as long as they're not white majority communities..that's bad. Then we need diversity because historically Central and South America...Africa and the Middle East have done so well for themselves in the modern era. WE ARE DOOMED>>>FRIGGEN DOOMED!

Prior to the 1964 immigration act, 90% of immigrants came from Europe. America thrived.
In the last 20 years, 90% of immigrants have come from 3rd world, failed states.
This country is FUCKED.
Fuck you martinez.
Fuck you liberals/democrats/RINOS.
RIP America.

Dude if these people were all particle laser scientists, master craftsmen and neonatal docs...sure let them in. They're all fruit pickers and day laborers...we're good thanks. My Italian side were all craftsmen. They could tile and work with marble. My great uncle put in the original parquet floor in the Boston garden and ran a business for 50 years. My mom was an accountant when she came over to the states in the 60's. You had to prove you could bring something to the table. I wrote a an immigration support doc for a buddy of mine who's a Fox News reporter and coming over from England. I had to write pages of shit as to why he was of value to the US. Now we have these douchbags jumping the border and taking away jobs and leaching off of us.

This is what I've been saying all along. We need to vote for people that look like us while we still can, people who will enact policies that ensure we remain the majority.
-
Republicans for amnesty. Shocking.
Will be interesting to see if she runs.
-
but but but but but Martinez said some great one-liners about gun control meaning using both hands.
She's hilarious and awesome and will totally be a great veep.
Sure, she wants to allow illegal lawbreakers to wreck our nation. But she's got spunk!
-
I hope she runs.

I hope she runs.
definitely. America needs more amnesty-supporting republicans. I hope ALL of the repubs, except one, support amnesty. This way, the vote won't be split like in the past. Vote for Cruz, or vote for allowing illegal immigrant lawbreakers to take over the country. Easy choice.

Yes, America needs more good people to run for high office.

Good people that support opening the border for millions of illegal aliens. Yes!

Yes, good people who know how to lead. They not advocate everything you like, but that good leaders are hard to find.
And now you have a ready-made excuse to vote for a Democrat again.

I misread this thread as
Cum on Susana "Fitness" Martinez: it's time for me to play with your balls on my tities. :-\

It's going to be fun watching the Republican candidates circular firing squad on immigration and other similar issues

Let's get real here.
At the end of the day the vast majority of politicians are gonna speak from a position that, first and foremost, keeps them in power.
If you look at it from a position of her retaining power as Governor of New Mexico it's probably the best possible move to make, from a Martinez standpoint. She'll get a vast majority of the white vote in New Mexico because they simply won't vote Democrat plus will do very well with Hispanics because she herself is Hispanic plus she actually has a fair amount of charisma and that "it" factor as well.
I don't see how taking that strong of a Pro-Amnesty position will allow her to win a Republican Primary and run for President at this point. I think social media and alternative media has taken things to such a level that it's going to be really hard to win a Primary unless you are pretty damn conservative. Just look at the way Drudge and Breitbart blast Cantor, Ryan and Boehnor at each opportunity they can when those guys take a pro amnesty position.
I still say a person like Martinez could be on the ticket as a V.P. choice because ultimately Republicans want to win of course, and she is Hispanic and a female with a pretty decent decent track record and people do seem to really like her as well which is huge of course in this day.
-
Always wondered about the hispanic "vote"... most beaners in my county don't even have a driver's license. They keep putting checkpoints to pick up these mofo.. don't you need to be a citizen to "vote" lol...
-
Yes, good people who know how to lead. They not advocate everything you like, but that good leaders are hard to find.
It's like saying "This girl I'm dating is sweet, pretty, funny, sexy, but she does like to stab puppies once or twice a week. I don't like everything she does, like stabbing puppies, but the good totally outweighs the bad".
Supporting amnesty is a deal-breaker for any true conservative. Anyone who disagrees isn't a true conservative, and I think most here will agree with that.

Exactly. That's why they will be toeing the line on amnesty.
-
Exactly. That's why they will be toeing the line on amnesty.
toeing the line that DEMOCRATS set for them.
The funny thing will be when the Repubs don't win the hispanic vote, even though they cave on amnesty and open up the borders.
I'm trying to remember... Bush2 got 44% hispanic vote, Mccain got 33%, Romney got 27%? Something like that? it's been sliding fast. imagine if the repubs cave, and voila... they STILL only get 22% of the Hispanic vote in 2016.
What then? They'll piss off the repubs in the base that actually RESPECT the law. They'll piss off hispanics that actually RESPECT the law. But you know who will still love them? The plastic republicans (RINOS) that pretend they are conservative while letting the dems walk on them.

You should repeat some of the really asinine hypotheticals you come up with out loud. Might help you sound more reasonable.
Or maybe not. :-\
You're not a true conservative. You're not a conservative period. And conservatives will be voting for whomever the Republican nominee is. That nominee is going to be supporting some form of amnesty, just like the rest of the Republican party.

Actually, the 2008 and 2012 elections have shown up that a nice chunk of the republican/conservative base WILL NOT show up and vote for "whoever the republican nominee is".
Remember?
The RINOs will, I suppose. but the base stayed home whne mccain and romney ran, because they saw them as fake conservatives. Any candidate that supports amnesty will also be viewed as a fake conservative.

I don't know about that.
There are estimates that over 3 million stayed home instead of voting for Romney.
I don't see a lot of conservatives motivated to vote for anyone who doesn't take a strong stand of securing the borders first and strengthening deportations procedures before even discussing a pathway to citizenship

It has to be this...
Repubs like Reice Priebus - bookworms that don't actually shake hands and talk to people all day - have run the numbers and decided the LOSS of base voters is acceptable because they'll GAIN more hispanic votes.
The problem here is that these are the same bookworms that decided a moderate McCain was the most electable in 2008. These are the same bookworms that worked to keep Ron Paul's voice out of the 2012 RNC convention, which resulted in a lot of his supporters staying home on election day.
RINOs will vote for a repub that supports amnesty.
I'm not sure every TRUE conservative will look at a guy saying "it's okay to cross the border and break the law because it's based in love" and get up and vote.
Think about what it means to let these illegals stay - they break the law, they often falsify paperwork to work, drive, etc... they use public resources and often create crime by leaving scene of accidents or committing far worse acts because ,well, it's much harder to catch someone with no info in system with every motivation to run.
Your point is correct - Conservatives wilL NOT be voting for whoever the repub nominee is. 2008 and 2012 prove that quite easily. Nothing to debate, to be honest. it's wishful thinking, at best.

Interesting.
Martinez definitely has the likability factor and from a political standpoint looks great on camera but her mic skills need a bit of touching up.

the right-wing base loves her because she uses gun calibers like puppets, reminding everyone she cannot open up a can of banked beans without using "my ol' trusty 45 ACP, am I right everyone?"
being female = nullifies any hilary female impact
being hispanic = forgives a lot of the anti-Trump minority hate
Fiorino was the early favorite, but ended up being a lying warmonger, so I think she's out.
-
if she really made those statements, she is an activist at heart and cannot be trusted. she will fold instantly and open the floodgates.

A little ditzy and seemingly has trouble reading the teleprompter at times. Giving a speech in front of a big crowd isn't her strongest suit either.
However she comes across really well in interviews given at her house or on a couch some where and definitely passes the "look" test. Also seems somewhat trustworthy.
Hard to see her jumping on board with Trump after his hard line rhetoric on immigration but I agree with your point that from an optics standpoint she would be a good foil if going against Hillary for the same reasons you stated. Bitchy, spoiled, old white liberal hag versus more of a laid back, Southwestern, values espousing Hispanic woman.
Probably would try to limit her involvement too much though because you wouldn't want her to be exposed.
