I probably shouldn't knock them without actually trying them. Maybe they're great, and very effective for aesthetic development.
Perhaps they would be useful when trying to teach a novice trainee how to "lead with the elbows" and what muscles they should feel contracting during certain rowing movements.
They look like they could be useful in helping one train around a hand injury.
If anyone decides to buy and try these, let me know if you get beat up when you take them with you on the floor at your gym.

well you probably have hands like a bear Woo.. ;D.. i use straps for Db rows, it looks like it could be useful for back training as you wrote Montague.

i didn't use straps for years as a kid (discouraged for powerlifters and football players alike) but started using them a few years ago... since ditching them about 2 years ago i see a significant difference in my grip strength and forearm development...
i still use them occasionally, but only if i feel that my grip will fail on a set of shrugs or deadlifts and even then it would only be on the final set
and my ring finger is a 13.5 at 5'11"... and i'm not a lardass
my fingers have gotten slightly thicker over the years though

I have small hands...ring size 9...lol

How big is your wrist?
Not sure what size my ring finger is, my wife bought me the biggest size they make and it fits my pinkie finger. :P
I quit using straps years ago, only time now is when we do our gym comps and have a deadlift for reps.

My wrist is just 7" so not very big. In fact i have had women comment about my hands...positive too. They like my little soft hands gliding over their bodies... :D

no wonder Wooo swinging that sledge all the time..lol

i think the primary causes of my callousing are battling ropes and my climbing rope (i don't climb it, no where to hang it at home) that i use to haul a 50lb bag about 50ft up in the hallway stairwell (live in a condo building)
the rope is thick and heavy too, anyway it causes minor rope burns all the time, especially when i lower the weight back down
my thought process though is that this is what our hands evolved to do...

i found that funny ;D but make fun of it as you may...women like my hands. I have been told "i have a nice touch". although my right hand has a scar and calluses.. :-[

anyway back on track here... i think i will include some pinch grips in my Friday workout and see if i can improve my forearm/grip strength. pinch grips i never see being used by anyone in the gym.. "pinch gripping" a smooth plate and holding it for as long as possible.

nothing wrong with using them to be able to train beyond grip failure

Probably considered more of a harness that simple straps, but kind of a good idea anyway. The one's on the market just encased the elbows, or just the one's I have seen in person. If it stays in position, than great.
Art Jones build his whole concept of the Nautilus pullover machine (lesser extent, his shoulder machine) with the elbows leading the motion of the exercise. Which in return took the weaker link of the arms and grip out of play, with the better leverage/strength of the elbows having the most responsibility of moving very heavy resistance. In other words, the lats/back can be worked to their fuller potential. One of the reasons that the Nautilus pullover machine is so superior a tool for building muscle mass. Most regular exercises (BB/DB/Chins) will depend a lot on the position of the elbows.
Anyone with experience with football, or even basketball, will understand the potential power of the elbows in close contact with another player. When applied correctly, you can move another player in just about any direction you want. Hitting another player, with the elbow, can have a powerful and damaging affected (just don't get caught). Martial Arts, and other fighting arts, including boxing, depend on the elbows for counter attacks and blocks. Bar bouncer's (the more skilled one's) know the importance of using elbows at selected times. Good Luck.

no sport involves more violent elbows than hockey... elbows to advanced helmets are still ending careers
