It was obvious why Rick Scott pushed for reduction in early voting - in 2008, it helped Dems/obama in a huge way.
HOWEVER, I live in a huge mccain/romney county in south florida, and I can definitely tell you I know SO MANY people who were completely set on voting AGAINST OBama, who got so damn tired of the long lins, and didn't bother staying to vote. It was an average of 3 hours, on a rainy day, and old people got out of line.
Now we have actual repubs admitting they cut the hours to reduce voting - no longer disputed.
Former Florida GOP leaders say voter suppression was reason they pushed new election l

A new Florida law that contributed to long voter lines and caused some to abandon voting altogether was intentionally designed by Florida GOP staff and consultants to inhibit Democratic voters, former GOP officials and current GOP consultants have told The Palm Beach Post.
Republican leaders said in proposing the law that it was meant to save money and fight voter fraud. But a former GOP chairman and former Gov. Charlie Crist, both of whom have been ousted from the party, now say that fraud concerns were advanced only as subterfuge for the law’s main purpose: GOP victory.
Former Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer says he attended various meetings, beginning in 2009, at which party staffers and consultants pushed for reductions in early voting days and hours.
“The Republican Party, the strategists, the consultants, they firmly believe that early voting is bad for Republican Party candidates,” Greer told The Post. “It’s done for one reason and one reason only. … ‘We’ve got to cut down on early voting because early voting is not good for us,’ ” Greer said he was told by those staffers and consultants.

Man I hate politicians.
-
without the 3 to 7 hour lines - I really do think Romney wins Florida.
I mean, enthusiam for obama was thru the FLOOR. I was shocked on election day how many of my friend (that live and act very liberal in all they do) were going to go vote Romney in order to change things. People who loved obama had abandoned him.
Sean hannity bitched about ft myers, FL on the air on election day - he was 100% right - people couldn't vote here... lines were hours long in the rain, all day long. In 2008, it was MUCH MUCH faster to vote.
I know 7 or 8 people who got out of line because they had work, kids, or other demands. Old people couldn't wait in rain 3 hours in the morning. Small biz owners couldn't give up 5 hours of their work day to stand in line.
I hope this voter suppression thing goes away - cause RIck Scott worked VERY hard to limit available polls and hours - and wow that shit sure backfired on Romney.
-
Repubs are a bunch of pussies who give up and go home as soon as they start to get uncomfortable and Dems will stand in line as long as it takes to cast their vote

There's a reason we have ELECTION DAY, not election week or election month.

There's a reason we have ELECTION DAY, not election week or election month.
and obama won as a result.

There's a reason we have ELECTION DAY, not election week or election month.
we actually do have elections weeks and month since many states have early voting and all states allow to vote by mail
your side lost because your message sucked, your candidate sucked and your party and it's voters suck

I'd say you're one for three. Then again, the message of personal responsibility would suck for people, who blame others for their lot in life.
The message of self-reliance does suck to people who think they can't get ahead, unless they take someone else's money and that they're entitled to stuff, just for breathing.
Small, limited government does suck to people who think government should take care of them from cradle to grave.
But, of course, when Obama's policies fail AGAIN, as they did before, it won't be his fault. He and his supporters will simply find other scapegoats.

if you want to keep the same playbook for the next election I think that would be great
what was the that quote by Einstein about insanity ?

exactly why they have to utilize classic Orwellian projection of accusing their opponents of the thing for which they themselves are the most guilty
to be totally fair to Repubs though, most are just too stupid to even know this or understand it
they really believe the lies they tell

The red states vs blue state welfare issue is all over the web so we cant say its because they dont have access to the info.
You are right they must be stupid.

You are right they must be stupid.
Yet, who are the recipients of all this welfare? Low-income voters.
And for whom do low-income voters cast their ballot? DEMOCRATS.
All those numbers mean is that the welfare recipients (Democrat voters) in red states are outnumbered, which doesn't seem to be the case in blue states.
Not to mention....
http://www.statemaster.com/graph/eco_wel_cas_tot_rec_percap-caseloads-total-recipients-per-capita
And,
If you look at actual welfare spending by case load or per capita the numbers tell a slightly different story than the liberal federalist would like.
Welfare caseloads per capita
Top five states per capita - DC, Guam, Rhode Island, Tenn. and Kalifornia. Hmmmmm things are not what they seem.
Total case load becomes - California, New York, Texas, Penn. Michigan - In that order
As I said an entirely different picture is it not?
So whenever someone tells you Red States receive more money from the Federal government than Blue States remind them that it is the Federal government that decides how much those Red States get to keep in the first place and since they take more from the Red States they have to give more back.

Look at the voting patterns of those who make under 50K and those who make over 50K.

You voted for a guy who said he'd keep unemployment under 8% and cut the deficit in half by his first term. He failed miserably at both. Yet, you voted from him again.
What was that you were saying about insanity?

unemployment is under 8% and he has cut the deficit every year since his first year in office (which was when he was still operating under a Bush budget and when he had a 1.2 trillion deficit before he even took office....oh yeah and when GDP was cratering so bad we didn't even know how bad it actually was in 2009 until almost a year later)
I'm sure Repubs will never stop believing the nonsense you regurgitate on this board
As a group, their mental and emotional state is very fragile and it's probably better for the rest of us if they continue to live in delusion and denial

That's what I don't get. The poorest states with the highest rate of high school drop outs, lack of college degrees, teen births, etc... are red conservative states. How the hell are Dems voting as the majority in those states?

Don't take my word for it. Look at the stats from the last three elections. Those without a high school degree go democrat. Most single women (with or without kids) go Democrat.
Check the link I cited earlier.

Apparently, so do you. But, as long as he merely promises a certain result without actually delivering such, he's worthy of your vote.

Ehh wrong i dont believe shit that comes out of their mouth dem or repub.
But results speaks highly in favor of dem.

And those are the same people who think they have some god given moral authority to tell everyone else how to live their life
Versus people like you who think you have some man-given authority to tell others how to live (particularly with regards to how much of their own money they should keep and that they should fund other people's lifestyle choices).

I have no authority to tell you anything
the government has authority over the money part and regarding to "how to live your life" part you are free to choose how to live your life just as I am
It's your group that wants to impose your beliefs on the rest of us and remove our freedom of choice and replace it with your preferred choice based on your preferred interpretation of your preferred religion
come on now, we've been down this same road about a million times now
-

So, you don't believe Obama; but because he simply promised to do certain things, rather than actually doing them, that's good enough for a second term.

And, you keep crashing into the same wall of denial.
When your group makes STUPID choices, you want my group, as it were, to foot the bill for the consequences.
With freedom comes responsibility; but that last part seems to be a problem for your group. It's always somebody else's fault that they're in the mess in which they find themselves.

Ozmo - you need to lighten up man

I don't want "your group" to foot the bill for anything
It's your group (fundies and red states) that actually costs this country more than my group (west coast, moderately wealthy liberals)
Who do you think is subsidizing the cost for all those unwed mothers in Missippi because they were too stupid to use birth control or can't get access to the morning after pill or an abortion or choose not to use it

Did you say WEST COAST? Please!!
As if your states aren't already subsidizing all those unwed mothers in California and elsewhere (especially those that managed to sneak across the border). ::)
Between all the illegal aliens you have to subsidize and the obsession with legalizing weed, you'll have more welfare cases in a month than we "fundies" will have in a year.
That's why the folks in California had to raise taxes on themselves (yeah, as if enough well-to-do folks aren't bailing, already). It appears all those unwed mothers were too broke to use birth control or, perish the thought, KEEP THEIR LEGS CLOSED, until they can afford to feed and clothe some children.
Heck, they're getting it "free"; yet, out-of-wedlock birth are STILL out of control.

No the fact that the alternative is much worse.

we raised taxes to improve our schools (something every state should do whether the raise taxes to do it or now)
perhaps I've misundertood what you're referring to with my group and your group (I assumed your group was red state fundies)
who is "your group" and "my group" in your quote below and what is the example of the stupid choice made only by my group and paid only by yours?

yeah that's why he sends me racist PM's and I've never sent him a PM in my life
my guess is the McWay lives in a red state which probably gets more in federal funds than it pays in taxes yet I live in a State (CA) that actually receives less from the Fed than we pay in taxes
which state do you live in ?

Right now MD, but I move frequently so I'm not a good example.
It would take more patience than I have to explain it...but you're comparing apples and oranges.
It's obvious you don't understand basic choropleth mapping and your drawing conclusions that just can't be drawn.
My guess is someone on HuffPost/MSNBC/COMMIENOW or whatever threw up the map and told you a comparison could be made?
Sound about right?

it was actually a conservative Washington-based think tank called The Tax Foundation

There's a reason we have ELECTION DAY, not election week or election month.
Do you think there is a reason to try to complete the vote in a day instead of holding the election over the period of a week, Sunday to Sunday?

Meh...you can't show they are conservative anymore than I can show they are liberal.
I looked at the site but couldn't find anything.
Please show me where the group is saying that the map can be used to draw conclusions about federal disbursements...and what specific conclusions they are saying can be drawn.
And I don't mean a bloggers op ed.
Something concrete.

Since 1990 or earlier, the Tax Foundation has "operate[d] as a separate unit" of Citizens for a Sound Economy.
Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) (1984–2004) was a conservative political group operating in the United States, whose self-described mission was "to fight for less government, lower taxes, and less regulation." In 2004, Citizens for a Sound Economy split into two new organizations, with Citizens for a Sound Economy being renamed as FreedomWorks, and Citizens for a Sound Economy Foundation becoming Americans for Prosperity.
Do either of those two names sound familiar
Do you want to guess who owns them or do you already know?

PLEASE!! Your state has a third of the country's welfare recipients.
My home state was red until 2008 (but still has no state taxes ;D ). Hint: We elected a Tea Party guy to the Senate who easily won his race, beating the pants off one of those mushy moderate RINOs you think we should emulate.

We're not talking about mere federal dollars. We're talking specifically about welfare recipients. I believed I addressed that in a link earlier.
A third of this country's welfare cases live in the biggest blue state in this country, California.

really, maybe that's because we have the largest population
either way we send more dollars to the Federal government then we receive in federal funding so what's it to YOU if we have more welfare recipients
btw - do you know that % of population or are you going of gross #s
What state do you live in again?

FL take a lot of heat (no pun intended) for the boneheaded shit that a lot of the residents here do...
But it's a great place to live. 78 and partly cloudy right now :)

so your home state of FL receives 97 cents in federal funds for every $1 sent to the Federal Govt in taxes
CA receive 78 cents for every dollar of taxes sent to the Federal Govt

But you can blame him for being a hyp liar if the above info is true.(too lazy to check now).
