fuck the media lies, who makes up this shit, im reading that the adults that died were jumping to shield the kids from the bullets..Thats some bullshit right there.
Im hearing on radio some 6 year old is a hero cause he ran with 3 other kids down the hallway, and stayed behind them to make sure they were ok..Theres no hero in this, just bodies. no need to sugar coat it.
Facts are facts but this hero shit is too much, that dude ran in a class room, all the kids were either hiding under there table or ran to a corner and he mowed them down
-
just like the captain is supposed to leave a sinking ship as last guy, its all bs
when the shit hits the metaphorical fan, everyone looks for his own best interest, even moreso than under normal circumstances where ppl are selfish too.
Agreed.
A tragedy happened, adults shot dead, kids shot dead.
No need to twist shit and lie and manufacture hero tales of teachers jumping infront of bullets. thats fucken lies right there, just a story to make the public feel a bit better.
My thoughts, prayers are with the families that lost there kid or mum/dad. But please dont make up shit
-
Calm the fuck down, no one here actually gives a shit, their just going through so panzy ass rationalization of why bad shit happens. Stop pretending you actually care.
At best it's entertainment. Nothing more.
-
Yes. I hate how the hero -concept has been trampled down to ground these days. Sad.

The concept of the hero is a evolutionary carry over where humans try to put god like qualities on living people. It's pathetic weak minded shit.

I don't know. I think when kids are involved instincts whether paternal or not take over.
I don't know any adult that I'm close to who would let a child die in front of them without doing anything.

This. Fabrication of this nature also undermines the rare instances when people actually do act with selfless bravery.

That's not exactly true.
While most people would think nothing of sacrificing their lives for their *own* kids, many of those same people *would* think twice before saving someone else's child if there was a great likelihood of their own death.

I read somewhere there was a toddler in an F16 opening fire on the shooter - this proves that people here are way too cynical to understand how many able bodied heroes are out there.

This kind of shit detracts from the people that actually do commit heroic acts in extreme situations. It does get irritating. Everyone wants to believe their loved ones died heroically instead of the reality that most died cowering in fear.
-
I have not read one article about this entire situation... and don't plan to anytime soon.

A hero is someone who protects the group's interest instead of his own even if it's at his own expense, risking to die for them. Some people have been raised to act that way, most atheists arent raised that way. When you come from a family where parents werent even able to stay together in the interest of both themselves and kids, obviously you re not going to learn how to do much for others.
Anyway, you dont know how you re going to react in such an event. In fact it all depends how you were raised. Im sure some happy kids loved by their parents actually might have attempted to help other kids or adults. I see kids coming from stable (rich or poor) families spontaneously helping other kids or adults once in a while.
These behaviors are normal, logical, especially coming from kids. One teacher locked herself and kids in a room. All of this is for real, it hasnt been invented to sugar coat anything. Fact is some people will react one way, while others will react another. The way someone reacts is conditionned by the way he or she was raised.

It's true of me and my close friends and relatives. I could say for a fact I would give my life to help a child in need. Mine, your's, or whoever.

Guess that means we can scratch you off the potential hero list. :D

NEWTOWN, Conn. – Town officials in Connecticut say the principal who died in the rampage at an elementary school was killed while lunging at the gunman as she tried to overtake him. Town officials witnessed this did they.
Dawn Hochsprung was gunned down in Friday's massacre in Newtown. Board of Education chairwoman Debbie Liedlien says administrators were coming out of a meeting when the gunman forced his way into the school and ran toward him.
Jeff Capeci (kuh-PEE'-chee) is chairman of the town's Legislative Council. Asked whether Hochsprung is a hero, he says, "From what we know, it's hard to classify her as anything else." I classify Jeff as a fucken liar, my ass she lunged

They have been altering the story left and right. They initially reported that she buzzed him in. Funny how that has changed to her lunging at him. ::)

PROPS if this is the case. Had others joined the principal, the shooter might have been taken down in the hallway. In other countries with armed teachers, they all run AT the gunfire, and dispatch of the shooter quickly.

Lol.
People like reading about citizens turning into heroes in extreme situations, not that they got killed after buzzing in the dude that goes on to kill 20 kids.
-

Im all for a good story to make me feel good, but this is beyond a joke, the first story was the principal and teachers were in a meeting he entered the room and popped them all, now there lunging at him protecting the kids, im assuming he entered 1 or 2 classrooms shot what he can, realised police were on the way and shot himself, the whole thing may have taken not longer then 5 minutes.
the sick fuck had a plan, kill what he can and kill himself. No heroes involved unfortunately.

The principal, Dawn Hochsprung, 47, of Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, was running at the gunman “in order to protect her students” when she was shot, the superintendent, Janet Robinson, said. The school psychologist, Mary Sherlach, 56, also tried to stop the gunman and was killed, Ms. Robinson told reporters in brief remarks outside the school.
“Teachers were really, really focused on saving their students,” she added.
Im sure she did, since she buzzed him in its the least she could do.

its all lies, i dont believe for a second that anyone lunged at the autistic girl, watch there will be a story how the kids that died protected the ones that lived and some of the kids protected the teachers.
Its a mass killing, no need for hero stories and lies when you have 20 kids dead, you think that will make the parents of the slain feel better, No, the gunman won.
-
It's a disturbing sign of America's psychological development that its mainstream has such a need for a hero.

arent all US soldiers killed abroad heroes?
fuck, some hillbilly could have been a meth addicted, wife abusing pedophile when he joined the forces , but if some 14 old afghan kid shoots the bastard in the back while he is running away, that fucker becomes a hero
my father which was in several wars taught me something I have always carried with me: better be a living 'coward' than a dead 'hero'
fuck those that try to tell you who is a 'hero'

The next school will be named after the principal that "lunged" at the gunman.
On the wall outside the school, there will be a mural of 20 children chasing butterflies to commemorate this horrid event. On the wings of the butterflies, the initials of the children will appear, so they will live on forever, in true happiness.
The artist who paints this mural will be praised and given an award from the school board, a proclamation from the local Senator, and a letter of commendation from the Governor.
Inside the new school (named after the principal of course), there will be plaques of the teachers who were killed.
Emotions will run very high, therefore justifying infringements on law abiding citizens' rights.
I've read about situations like this before, we all have, only this time, they won't be wearing Brown shirts.
-
Grandpa was a hero at Guadalcanal when he earned his first of three purple hearts while protecting the ammo dump. He said they wanted to give him more medals but he refused because he said that the medals belonged to the entire company and not just him. Grandpa really was a hero.

I'm sure there are a lot of people like this in the army. One reason I am not an automatic "admirer." Just in their to make a living.

Why don't these retard shooters instead of murdering innocent children, go vigilante and go gun down meth heads riding around on bikes or ghetto thug trash crackheads in the hood?
-
If a gunman came into my classroom I would at least run full blast at him maybe pickup a desk for cover if it was close by and try and take as few bullets as possible to take him out. It might not be heroic but if you're getting shot anyways you might as well go all out instead of hide like a little bitch.

this is 100% correct.
The people were killed all huddled together in the center of the room. Very horrible. Execcuted one by one.
I hate to say it, but you HAVE to run right at a threat like that. The sounds of gunfire came thru the school intercom system, so everyone in that school heard the shooting and had at least a little time to react.
I dunno why doors weren't locked, maybe some were... but I would have picked up the sharpest metal object i could find and I would have fought if that door opened. Gonna die anyway, might as well puncture that little fcker's neck, maybe stop the shooting sooner.
-

Because they have no knowledge of what is good and bad and confuse both or simply dont believe in good and bad anymore.

Apparently there are a lot of "flight"ers on getbig. More than I would have expected.

Not everyone is completely self absorbed like you quickerblade.
I'm glad you weren't teaching the school when it happened - there would be another 5 dead kids from your human shield tactic, so you could escape in time for your 4th protein shake of the day oh brother

We see it differently. Perhaps it has something to do with ourselves and placing our own character on others, assuming they are the same. You can't believe anyone would risk their lives trying to save others, and seem actually angry that there are stories indicating that may be the case. I have no problem realizing that some stories may be exagerrated out of emotion, but have been privvy to some pretty cool incidents where strangers no less, did risk their lives to help others. Not sure why it's so alien to you that it happens, it's a little sad really.

A hero is someone who protects the group's interest instead of his own even if it's at his own expense, risking to die for them.
The name Yaroni Avidan comes to mind.
Ron has withstood the test of time. He has protected us all amidst threats of physical harm, lawsuits and even possibly losing backstage media access.
Ron is GetBig's Saviour.

Teacher that "used herself as a shield" is being compared to Jesus, I guess being a hero is just not enough.
-
I would have attacked the shooter if the opportunity was there no matter what the danger was.. If you are going to die anyways then you might as well try. If the guy is reloading or facing the other direction there are no excuses not to take him out.
-
From buzzing and let the gunman in to lunging at him all within a few minutes. Hero stuff right there.
Where did you get that she buzzed him in? He shot out the glass that was beside the door. Saw the news footage of the broken glass besside the door. Get your facts straight.

6 of the adults that died did what you would of did, they all ran and jumped in front of the kids, funny thing is the adults killed were in a meeting and shot execution style.

you playing logic with me Orion, i did not report that the media did, they say she buzzed him in and then she sacrificed her life like Jesus and now shes a hero like Lara Croft.

The guy didn't have to reload. If the guy has you at a five foot distance or more there is no way you can close the gap.

What if there was an armed adult on the premises that managed to kill the shooter within reasonable time? What a massive propaganda win for the gun lobby that would've been. Absolutely immense. Would have changed the gun debate for years to come.

Yes the word hero is overused, I can't stand it when some overpaid athlete is called a hero, for what doing what he is paid to do? How many times was the word hero used in the Olympics. Makes me sick. A guy who jumps into a freezing river to pull someone out a car, now that's a hero.
The forensic investigators at the school shooting can draw conclusions from the postion of the bodies as to what went down. If the teacher tried to shield her kids, then in my book she is a hero, even if it was futile. When you realise that you life span is down to a few seconds who knows what anyone will do.
-

Supposedly she hearded her students into a closet and some panicked and ran out...she tried to get them back in and when she saw the gunmen she stood in front of them to shield them.
-
The Hero word is overused media bullshit. I hate when pro athletes are refered to as heroes or loser military dishit cowards are called heroes. Everyone is a hero these days that the word holds no meaning.
-
Was watching TV yesterday and they were talking about how some students who were hiding in a closet, ran out past the gunman and were shot as they were trying to escape. They were calling the first kid who got shot while escaping a "hero" because he was "leading others to safety". Well, if safety is getting shot in the back as you flee, then whatever. Another one. Principal and Psychologist hear gunfire and step out of the room into the hallway and are shot. But they are called "heroes" for confronting the gunman. Um.. No. You're not a hero because you hear gunfire and walk out the door and get shot on the spot. That's not "confronting" the gunman, and that certainly doesn't make you a hero. It makes you a casualty.

Amen to that, exactly what i was thinking. Good post Rudee.
Getting shot does not make you a hero, it just makes you a victim.
the kid that ran out the closet and was shot was not a hero either, more like a scared kid (which is understandable) but no need to call the slain kid "hero trying to lead the kids to safety"
The Principal was not a hero, she stepped out, i doubt to confront the gunman, only cause she heard loud noises, gunman saw her and shot her, no hero.
media said someone put the intercom on so the school could hear the shooting, another lie.
RIP to them all though, there not heros but what a sad day that was.
