WASHINGTON — President Obama said Wednesday that he will submit broad, new gun control proposals to Congress no later than January and will commit the power of his office to overcoming political opposition in the wake of last week’s school massacre.
The president’s pledge comes as key House Republicans restated their firm opposition to enacting any new limits on firearms or ammunition, setting up the possibility of a philosophical clash over the Second Amendment early in Mr. Obama’s second term.
“This time, the words need to lead to action,” Mr. Obama said, referring to outrage to previous mass shootings that eventually led to little or no legislative changes. But he said that the proposals would not be just about weapons.
“We are going to need to work on making access to mental healthcare at least as easy as access to guns,” he said.

From live press conference on MSNBC.
President Obama announces 'real reform' on guns immediately.
Calls out Congress for not allowing a new head of the ATF for Six Years.
Not a commission to announce results in six months. The President will be pushing for action in the new Congress.

Where is Al Doggity to come in and tell us we are imagining things? Nothing to see here folks. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
At this point even Hellen Keller would be able to hear the Democrats beating the drum for gun control. To deny that it isn't happening makes you a fool and/or a liar.
-
He can plan all he wants... he has the constitution and the supreme court giving him the finger on that and I doubt it gets through congress.

says the guy who has benefited and or will benefit from having the 2nd Amend. in place as is.
If you think they push shit now, what do you think it would look like with an unarmed America? Personally I'm just fine with them knowing Americans constitute the biggest armed force in the world. Think of it as another check to the ballance lol...

I'm from Australia, and we have been unarmed for a long time, feels good not to ever have to think about guns, to be free of obsession with deadly weapons and to be able to send your child to school without fearing they won't be murdered. So I live in a Country were my view is the majority and Gun Nutters are generally ridiculed or seen as kind of obsessive and mentally ill (that's because a lot of them are). I can't stand special interest groups of any kind, let alone ones that enable unimaginable suffering and have a victim mentality (the gun Nutters are always playing the victim, I guess that's why they need a gun, to compensate for feeling like being a victim). Anyway, good to see Obama grow some balls, pity it took 5 year old children being murdered while at school for him to find a pair!

Ok then, on this issue, get the fuck out of here.... Go on a walkabout or whatever but leave this issue to us to talk about. You have no right to be weighing in on our national politics at this level. Quite frankly, STFU. Let Americans hash this out.
I'm fine with people from other countries talking politics here when they have a stake in it such as in areas around foreign policy, trade, covert actions or war but you have no fucking right to be engaging in this debate being from Australia, or Canada or wherever. bud the fuck out please. This one is our business and doesn't effect you; let us have a discussion over this on our own... It's not a "One World Whatevercrap-ship" yet.

Bump...
If you're not an American citizen, you really need to step back on this issue.

Never understand people from other countries bitching and moaning about the way we live our lives.

Hey, I was wrong. I admitted it. I was mostly responding to the knee-jerk "Obama wants to take our guns" sentiment from the right that pops up every couple of months after a shooting. The truth is , that was never the case. Even just two days ago, an article questioning Obama's commitment to gun safety ran on The Daily Beast:
In his first term, Obama signed a bill making it legal to carry concealed weapons in national parks. Events have now pulled him into a leadership role on an emotional and cultural issue that he spent four years avoiding. He will of course sign an assault-weapons ban if it reaches his desk. The question is how much political capital he will invest in getting it passed when he has other legislative fights looming. “This last event requires his full involvement,” says Miller.
But I did misgauge how strong public reaction would be, which was foolish. It's just too hot right now. Even the majority of conservatives are taking a bit of a backseat on the issue right now.

yup, I don't get it either.
I even made the best attempt to keep any political comments about Hugo Chavez in the realm that was at issue with America. On other issues I tried to stay the fuck out of their politics as much as possible. That's their business, not ours. Personally I thought all that shit that went down was all their business and I didn't like our government getting involved and I don't like the fact that I felt the need to even talk about Hugo Chavez or Venezuela as a result of that involvement..
-
so I'll keep this bumped. If you're not an American, you really need to STFU on this issue. You want strong gun control in your country, talk all you want about that but don't come on here talking about what we need to do if you don't live here.
-

Typical arrogant American, expects the rest of the world to fuck off why they Enable the Murder of 5 year old children in schools.

Yeah, it must be hard for someone with an 83 IQ to understand why anyone would be bothered by a Nation that has enabled the mass slaughter of children and continues to do so.

Which "group" on getbig is the most close-minded and make the most baseless assumptions about others?

How is dozens of 5 year old children being slaughtered have anything to do with feelings. Other peoples privileges end, when they infringe on Universal Human rights, like the right to safety and security. I will enjoy watching the collective childish temper tantrum the Gun Nutter will inevitably throw when confronted on their sociopathic narcissistic need to own a gun.

Oh bullshit. Take your Superman underoos off and stop being some wanna be hero.
You don't give two shits.
Don't see your ass on this board talking about the child deaths in Thailand, Yemen, and DR Congo where they're actually recruited as soldiers as well.
Amazingly we've come this far, the world hasn't ended, and despite your pathetic attempt at being some hero, this is not a common occurance. ::)

If they propose any anti-gun legislation you can guarantee the Democrats will lost many many seats... There are so many independents and southern democrats who are pro gun that THIS is going to cost them big time.

probably depends a lot more on what exactly one defines as "anti-gun" legislation
Here is a poll from July 2012 (and conducted by Frank Luntz)
http://www.mayorsagainstillegalguns.org/downloads/pdf/poll-07-24-2012.pdf
• 74 percent of NRA members and 87 percent of non-NRA gun owners support requiring criminal background checks of anyone purchasing a gun.
• 79 percent of NRA members and 80 percent of non-NRA gun owners support requiring gun retailers to perform background checks on all employees - a measure recently endorsed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms industry.
• 75 percent of NRA members believe concealed carry permits should only be granted to applicants who have not committed any violent misdemeanors, including assault.
• 74 percent of NRA members believe permits should only be granted to applicants who have completed gun safety training.
• 68 percent of NRA members believe permits should only be granted to applicants who do not have prior arrests for domestic violence.
• 63 percent of NRA members believe permits should only be granted to applicants 21 years of age or older.
• The NRA rank and file also supports barring people on terror watch lists from buying guns (71 percent) and believe the law should require gun owners to alert police to lost and stolen guns (64 percent). The NRA's Washington office strongly opposes both measures.

^^^
Those arent they type legislation that these emotional libtards are going to try and pass and you know it.
Again do some research on the last AWB and you will see what acting simply for the sake of acting gets you...

Oh bullshit. Take your Superman underoos off
Superman, another queer American Invention that speaks volumes about the mindset of the Average American, I imagine every Gun Nutter sees himself as some powerful force in his own imaginary world, with GUN Control being his kryptonite.

Don't have to listen to anybody, that's the American way! Just need to listen to your conscience, and do what's right! But this is highly unlikely, as the average gun nutter has a reduced conscience and a large dose of selfishness. I don't hate Americans, I hate the special interest minority groups that make everyone else suffer because of their sociopathic agenda!

I agree, I'm pro guns and I still think we are better with Obama over Romney on this as well. Romney banned assalt weapons his 2nd year in office in look it up on wiki. I think obama just said something cause he had to, just sucks he decided to do it during Sunday night football, haha
