It's a good thing you just coach and don't teach English, Coach; I think you mean government assistance and not assistants.

I like the suggestion that public school teaching is not a real job - not too far off the mark.

My uncle is on the school board so I always get into debates with him about teachers not deserving their BS union pay.
My one buddy told me to become a teacher. He laughs how little he works and would go home during the day for naps on his free periods. It is near impossible to get fired, there are a few teachers who show up drunk lol. He gets paid a decent living with awesome benefits(PA has some of the highest paid teachers) and teaches computer class to a bunch of thugs, with half the year off.

I'm a product of the public school system. What can I say.
-
Yes - but their official PR image that they project is overworked and underpaid. But they are OVER PAID.

Around here many kids go to private schools. It is fun seeing a public school teacher get pissed off when you ask them how a private school teacher getting paid half what they do is such a better teacher and so much more successful(I obviously know there is other things that go into it.)
Get rid of the unions and make teaching performance based.. just like 99% of the other jobs in the world.

Here in Oregon, the school year is at least 180 days for students. Teachers work around 190 or more days, depending on the school district (hardly half a year off). Many volunteer additional time. Employees working in non-teaching jobs and who are full time, generally work 260 days. Teachers don't earn or get vacation. Other full time workers get two or more weeks of vacation every year. After 20 years with the same employer, I had four weeks of vacation each year. Many newly employed teachers must take summer employment to pay the bills. In Oregon the average starting salary for a full time teacher is $46,930. This is not big money.

pay kids to get A or master a subject
use incentives
get back to consitutional straightjacket on politicians n lawyers
replace most lawyers with logic software
end straight maraige as gov contract
marry for ceremony only
no cash involved
bring back factories and pay people well if they are productive but only if they produce, hek let em take home the finished product and trade it on open market
bring troops home

Does you family feel obligated to you in some way? I cannot imagine why they would let someone like you into their lives. Clearly you don't appreciate them.
Why don't you tell them you think they are Communists who are brainwashed by the television and a public education and see what happens. I bet they have no idea what you really think about them.
-
This is Charlotte Thompson Iserbyt, who served as the head of policy at the Department of Education during the first administration of Ronald Reagan.
In this video she clearly states and shows that the US education dept has a strong communist agenda.

Many of them have to work during the WHOLE year to pay the bills? I had no idea it was so bad!

190 is almost half the year off. Fucking shit teachers can't do maths
-

190x2=380
It's MORE than half the year off...unless teachers now get 400 days in a year.
I'm sure the unions have bargained for a 400 day year, but I don't think changing the earth's orbital period was viable.

Why did you, or anybody, take the job then if it is so unfair?

It's free money bitches, don't hate! ;D

Yes - but their official PR image that they project is overworked and underpaid. But they are OVER PAID.
sorry, my mom taught for 42 yrs. overpaid, please.
She wasn't a computer science teacher who had very little to teach. But taught math and English. She has taught elementary and middle school, GED classes and others.
And and believes in discipline and structure, which is what many of today's kids lack due to their parents not being parents. Today's teachers make little compared to what they'd be making if they chose another avenue.
And get this, if the little screw-ups don't want to learn, it's the teachers fault! Teachers today are expected to give grades, the children are not expected to earn grades.
There is a reason why there is a need for good teachers these days---few want to go into it, knowing that they will not make that much money, and have to deal with terrible kids, who have even worse parents, who expect their kids to be above average and get straight As, all while doing sports, musical instruments, dance, and acting lessons. So, what type of teachers do you get? The ones like above, the lazy ass ones.
And get this, you get three months off, oh boy.
I've seen guys who were in Vietnam and Desert Storm lose control of a class. And these were suburban kids. Now you go teach English, Social Studies, Math, etc, and not an elective like Computer Science, and see what you really get.

Depending on their contract with the school district they work for, teachers get periodic increases for a number of different reasons. For example, they sometimes get cost of living increases, increases for experience and increases for additional education. Eventually, in many parts of the country a teacher's salary is pretty decent after several years on the job. Many teachers work their entire career as teachers.

if you got rid of government school, the teachers would be free to sell thier services to the public

If you knew anything about teaching and education, you'd know that many, if not most parents, unfortunately don't give a shit about their kids' education. If they did, they would show up for parent teacher conferences and open houses at school. With both mom and dad working, sometimes several jobs, they often see school as a free baby sitter. The proof in this is when school is unexpectedly closed because of a snow storm. Parents start calling the school and whining about who is going to watch their kids. It is not unusual when a kid gets sick or injured that the school cannot locate a parent to come and take them home or to the doctor.
Is this the "public" you think teachers can sell their services too?

Well your response to my question about who would pay for private education was incoherent and off target, as is often the case with your posts. This does make one question whether you are a joke, a fake, or just too dumb to see anything rationally.
I get that you have fairly severe dyslexia. This is obvious from the way the letters in your words are often reversed or missing. Does your dyslexia also contribute to the randomness of your thought processes too? If so, then this explains a lot about you.

Work too many hours, for too little pay.
Such is the life of the teacher. "Long hours, low pay, no benefits."
Ask any coal working leaving the mines after his 12th hour underground and he'll tell you...teachers have it rough.

A person chooses their profession. If you don't want to be a coal miner then train to do something else. The truth is some coal miners probably prefer to spend the day in the mines as opposed to spending the day with 35 children, some of who are pretty ill behaved.

Yes it is, they could become babysitters - quite in line with their qualifications.

Do you require a babysitter to have a masters degree? Is the babysitter expected to educate their charges? Do you require them to test the children they babysit to see if they actually learned anything and how much and if the kids don't measure up, do you fire the babysitter? If so, how much are you willing to pay them.

Look.. My sister is a teacher and even she admits its good gig... Prime states that hey work 190 days.. Well I can tell ya when her summer is off and you average out the pay she makes 44,000 a year.. She has every holiday off.. She has two weeks off in December.. Numerous three day weekends.. She teaches 4 classes a day..come on.. The only reason why a teacher would bitch is because they never had a real job that goes all year wih out time off for holidays.. Most come straight out of college and never worked any other job.. They have no idea how tough most jobs that pay 44000 are..

BINGO.
If a coal miner ( as you say) should go do something else, why shouldn't a teacher?
I'm sure there are plenty of jobs out there which pay $44,000 annual salary+ benefits on average and require 6 hour days with 3 months off each year. But then again, the salary, benefits and work schedule of a teacher are all so horrible-- that the teacher might want to consider becoming a coal miner. ::)
-

Where does welfare money actually come from in third world countries? Or to rephrase, where does the money that you receive from the government come from?

Clearly you think you have a better understanding of what it takes to be a teacher then most teachers do. Incidentally, most teachers contracts are for 190 days a year, although a lot of teachers I know volunteer extra time at work. Many teachers are required to take ongoing college courses to keep their accreditation. Most full time employees in other jobs work 246 after you deduct the average 2 week vacation. That leaves a little less then two months off, not 3 months. If you were a teacher or actually knew someone who was a teacher, you'd know that the job isn't the cakewalk you make it out to be.

I think we should all just admit/accept that being a teacher is the hardest job in the world and move on. Teachers work too many hours with too few days off, for far too little pay. I can see that now.
