what do you think of a suzuki aerio hatchback? Small family, not driving often (maybe 4/6 hours a week) and only on short distances. Does it consume more fuel than other asian cars?
I owned a 12 y/o hyundai accent previously but it's costing us too much to maintain/repair, so we re selling it for 3000 bucks.
I really dont know shit about cars, heard that most asian cars whatever the manufacturer are cheap , robust and fuel efficient with easy access to spare parts being well spread... We dont drive a lot, and ill soon be the only one using it to get to work which is a short distance daily, probably will use it to move big stuff once in a while (hence wanting the hatchback option) but again, using it very very rarely compared to most people.
So what are the best asian cars? suzuki, hyundai, toyota, kia ? What about north american fords chevy and pontiac?
Because sharing is caring.

It's almost too easy. Beta male that's pissed off and bitter at the world driving in his 1986 toyota carolla.

Go with Nissan or Toyota maybe if want something to last the Nissan Altima is a good choice, although the US brands Ford or Chevy have improved still not as good.
-
suzukis car division is now defunct, stay away from them. buy a used toyota or nissan instead, they are market leaders for a reason.

Camry, Accord, New Mazda 6...Ford Fusion
That is all you need to know, you want beige, you get 4 different shades.
Hyundai Sonata, no... Their turbo engines will start to have problems in a few yrs. plus they had over stated their mpg.
Toyota Yaris, or Honda Fit for fuel sippers. Stay away from the Nissan Leaf, no cooling or heating for the batteries...lawsuit coming.
Just pay attention to certain things. It's not all about the exotics and luxury vehicles. They are there due to a market for them. The bigger market is "beige mobiles", aka cars you use everyday.
-
+1
Suzuki car division went bankrupt and no one knows the future of it.
There are easily 20 vehicles on the market that meet the parameters you've described. Spend $5 on a Consumers Report magazine to do some research, test drive a few, buy used with less than 20k miles and you will be fine.

We definitely aim for a beige mobile as you call it, but we would under utilize it compared to most people with our everyday use which is very limited. We walk or use bikes a lot in summer and we live near a mall and forest/nature we can reach easily by bike or foot.
Still id like it to have more room than the average car cause i need to move big stuff once in a while and need at least a hatchback.
And we need a used car, not brand new.
Ill take your advice in consideration but ill wait for more comments.

Seriously thinks he can get 3000 for a 12 year old Hyundai? ::) Maybe 300 if you find a sucker.

it only has 69 000 km and is in perfect condition you clown... We bought it to an old lady that very rarely used it and kept it stored indoor most of the time, and we barely used it more than her since then ; when we bought it it only had around 40 000 km on the counter. An expert actually told us his estimate, i didnt pull it ouf of my ass, and it's the price for such an item at the moment where we live. As simple as that. We have had one to three people a day since one week asking us questions cause they re interested. Thanks for trying to sound smart/witty tho. But you failed.

I don`t get it, you already have a car but you are complaining that its costing too much to repair and maintain so you are going to sell IT and buy another car.
So instead of dropping a grand getting your car in shape you are going to spend $$$ buying another car.
Auto manufacturers love this type of mentality.

used hatchbacks, try Accord or Mazda 6 hatch, if you can find them. Or used Honda Crosstour.
Used Ford Focus hatch, or Golf 4 door hatch. Since you are in Canada you might even get a Jetta or Passat hatch. Or Fiats, Renaults. Or even Subarus.
Ain't nothing wrong with "beige". Due to them being cars most people buy, there is probably more money and R&D put forth to make them reliable and functional. You think Ferrari could exist without Fiat making tons of money on FwD hatches and sedans

Allright then, two-forty. I can`t even put it out front because I would lose business if I did.

from what i understand after reading this article http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-drive/new-cars/auto-news/suzuki-canada-prepared-to-go-it-alone/article4980844/
suzuki even if disapearing of the automotive/cars trucks market in the us will still have a line up of cars in canada, and their cars even if rarer that other brands are quality and long lasting.
My real interogation is about the price of common spare parts (tires, motor parts that need to be changed regularly) , it's probaly tougher and more expensive to find than spare parts for a toyota, nissan or hyundai car.

We re selling it so someone who will make good use of it, not scraping it... so there s no loser or "winner", everyone wins. We re changing because i need more room and because we need doors for kids in the rear seats, our current accent only has two doors. And we re not buying something new, but an used item. I heavily considered doing what you just said for a long time tho.

We all have ennemies...and friends, and people who dont give a fuck about us. Parker has always been surprisingly smart for a black person - from personal experience i always thought not all black people were dumb, just the vast majority of them; but it's nothing new, some smart black people think the same and they are the ones who openly want to "whiten" themselves more and more-, probably because he was raised the christian way by smart parents, from what i remember he s the son of a single mom who was a teacher? Just like wiggs I hope he finds a white woman to purify his genes with and he ll honnor following God's words, I'm just saddened by wigg 's lack of willpower and drive, and by parker's immaturity once in a while, but all in all they re good people wanting to improve themselves and others, and most important, they re not LIARS, they are genuine, which is what truly matters in the end, even if it sometimes makes you look like a fool.
An internet messageboard is just like a schoolyard, a public place where people try to find answers and learn to know each others and themselves more after a while, with people thinking alike sticking together while being in conflict with others. It's virtual, but it still mimics real life relationships as the basic principles and life processes at work in the background are the same. I rarely ask for advices cause i rarely need them but in this particular case i did, in the end we are going to keep our accent, pay the 700 bucks required to replace some parts and will take care of it for probably at least 5 more years as it is the less expensive and more reasonable thing to do in the interest of everyone. It was and still is an advantage to have such a low mileage on my accent even if it's "old", so no need to buy something different at the moment , i ll beat it to death first.
-
i also considered buying a car that's more fuel efficient
i drive a 2011 (old model) kia rio gasoline
this piece of shit uses a lot of fuel a lot
maybe get a 1.6 tdi diesel?

I would like to think i had some small part to play in the upsurge of usage of the word "clown" as a derogatory epithet on getbig. ;D

Never ever buy a car from a woman if you live in cold weather place. Can't tell you how many women I see getting into their cars in the des of winter and not warming up the engine. I cringe when I see that. Actually feel bad for the car.

explain?
i just start driving right away when it's freezing in the morning
why is this bad?
wouldnt warming up the engine waste fuel?
-
I hope you're trolling but just in case...
If the temp dips below freezing, the internals of your engine are going to be freezing as well. The purpose of warming up the 'car' is really warming up the fluids that run the car. Mainly the oil. The oil has to lubricate all the components that make the car run smoothly. Not warming up can literally destroy your engine and or shorten its life by a significant amount. Don't you notice how rough the engine engages a gear in the winter when you go from R to D? And the car flyes when even without you putting your foot on the gas?
Treat a car like you do your body. You wouldn't hit the weights in the dead of winter without dressing warm and warming up and stretching, would you?

Idling is not an effective way to warm up a car .
-
as long as they're not gunning it, which I suspect they are not, this is not a problem.
You should give the engine time to warm up the oil and make it more viscous before going above 2 or 3 thousand revs as this prevents head damage due to oil starvation. Just drive away and keep the revs below half max and you will be fine.
Letting a car idle at tickover for a while when cold is worse because little oil will reach the head during that time.
Cars fly when cold because the choke allows more fuel to air ratio to ease starting. This causes the gear jumping.
-

I didn't say that, Rhomboids said it. I was correcting and educating the ignorant masses on here. :D
-
Why not idle it like letting run a few minutes before take off?
Because oil needs the engine to be turning over around 2000 revs to circulate oil properly to all parts of the engine especially the higher parts around the head , especially if oil is cold and therefore lacking viscocity. This means when you're engine is reving at 800 rpm cold there will be little oil reaching the head resulting in wear in the top end.
-

So are you saying its best to just start a car and take off getting around 2000 revs?

What if you have a Wankle... Don't you have to wait until the Apex seals are lubed before you run off?

yep.
-
What if you have a Wankle... Don't you have to wait until the Apex seals are lubed before you run off?
The modern Wankle should be treated similar to normal engine. Take it easy for first few miles.
If you have an old type Wankle NSU R080 you are fucked whatever way. I remember them all having fucked seals by 30,000 miles back in the day when I was an apprentice.

YES!
The heat also lets the metal parts expand back where they need to be so they're not rattling around, tearing your engine up.

I don't think so? It couldn't even work on a fuel injected vehicle?
From what I see on google, the fuel injection just richens the fuel/air mixture by squirting more gas, there's no physical choke.

Possibly... but I do know that depending on different computer based tunes it can physically change the ratio of gas / oxygen... So there has to be something.

You are correct but I am talking in terms of the function of the choke principle of mixture richening. We are on the topic of older cars which had auto chokes when they still had carbs even tho they didnt have a wee leaver to pull out. The fuel injection allowing less air in the mixture is exactly the same principle as the old mechanical chokes of the past 100 years.
