Title: I had to laugh while looking through Flex magazine today
Post by: LurkerNoMore on December 15, 2005, 10:19:29 AM
I noticed three things - sure there are more but I was in the grocery line - that was truly beyond the realm of Patheticness.

1 - Chris Cormier claiming "they judged me too harshly at the Olympia this year."  LOL  you looked like shit.  That's why.

2 - Gene I Failed My BenchPress getting ready in the picture... looking like Porky Pig in both body and face.  I mean, really.  Who wears shades to an INDOOR benchpress comp?

3 -  The two large pics of Gunter.  It was very obvious that a bad airbrush/photoshop job was done to eliminate those spaghetti veins on his inner thigh.    Whatever method they used certainly was a shit poor job.  Next time Feather with a Ratio of 4.1

Let the hate commence.

I too laughed, because after reading article and looking at pics, still not sure how Ronnie won, even Peter McGough would not admit that Ronnie won outright, so what do you think, he wins next year, breaks the record them miracuously retires, at bes Ronnie was third, maybe fourth, again I have stated:

1.  No claves

2.  Not the best back at that show

3. If his waist is mainstreamed, damn mine is invisible

4. Smooth hamstrings and glutes.

Actually if you read the Olympia article, they mentioned that Günter had the veins in his thigh removed.

In Gene's defense, I did read somewhere that he has an eye problem that makes him very sensitive to light. Not sure how much truth there is to that though. :-\

In Gene's defense, He's blind in one eye. I don't know, but I think he doesn't even have an eye. Sometimes he wears a patch.
Can't make fun of the guy for that. You'd be wearing sunglasses too, You'd also be dead so fast if 1000 was lifted off to you.

Don't get me wrong, I hate what he's doing to the sport just as much as anyone who knows what's going on and respects true strength.
What does he get out of that shirt? 350 lbs.!?!?!?!?

Exactly.  Plus if you looked at the pictures, you could see where the spot was feathered and blended together.  Oh, you could still see a HINT of them around the edges where they did a bad job on the photos.

Yes.  Veins are routinely taken from the leg for coronary bypass surgeries.

You can't really see it in this pic but he wears the sleeves illegally too low around his elbows and there's fabric his
elbows-armpit-body area that creates a gusset.
Not to mention it's like 4-ply, open backed and pulled down in the front so far it looks like a prom dress from hell.

does it really add 300lbs to his bench?

If he could bench more than 715 raw, he would to shut-up people like me. But he can't break that record.

I do buy the annual Olympia issue.  But the rest of the articles on training, nutrition, etc....  yawn....

I am not saying vein CAN'T be removed... I am saying the PICTURE in the magazine has a smudged look to it in the EXACT spot.  Maybe he did.  Maybe the mags airbrushed it.  Maybe by a fluke some pimple faced tweenager had the mag before me and drooled in that exact same spot.  The picture just looks fishy.

Now... about that damn bench shirt...   does have it open in the back increase the amount it assists?  I would think an enclosed one would offer more "bounce".  I don't know.

The back of the shirt doesn't assist in the performance but the "neck" cut of open-backed shirts is way different. having no fabric around your shoulders because you pulled the "neck" down to mid chest level does alot! A well fitting shirt is so tight you can't put your arms down and it used to be difficult to breathe (now most companies have come out with either stretch backs or Velcro [open backs]). As you lower the bar tremendous force is building at your pec/delt tie-ins, this is where the push will come from. There's an imaginary bubble at nipple level, If you touch too high on your chest then the bar will deflect over your face, too low and you will have big trouble bringing the bar back into your groove, but right on the bubble (where it's most painful, btw) it will shoot right up.

Definitely takes some getting used to. I've only used single ply shirts, I can't get 315 down to my chest & I get 65lbs. out of mine.

His is 3 or 4 ply, he probably can't get 850 down all the way, and gets over 300 lbs. out of it.

Except it doesn't. It does say, and I quote, that 'Jay had the best back on the night.' If that was indeed the case, he should probably have won.

As we all know it's very different on the night/on video, but in the pictures, it's very hard to tell them apart, and FLEX basically concurs with this. If anything I think the article gives Jay the edge.

1. HAHAHA. Very True. Cormier was soft all over. Perhaps decided Melvin shouldn't be Mr Soft Ass anymore.

2. Gene is a joke. Nothing more to it. Would like to examine that enforced shirt of his sometime. Wonder if it's quadruple ply, or even more? Why the fcuk is he wearing a beanie indoors? Looks idiotic. Also, I think he does have an eye problem. Blind on one eye? But is that a reason to wear specs like them retired old folks with blue hair in Florida uses?

3. Der Günta-man actually had some surgery done to correct that shit on his thigh. Lemme tell ya, he sure needed to get it done. Thing looked horrible. :-X

dude that was from 1994 arnold classic........paul actually froze onsatge due 2 dehydration and had 2 b picked up by fellow pros off the stage horizontally.later i the cause of his freezing onstage was due 2 over use of diuterics.....it shocked the bodybuilding world cuz of steroids over use.the funny thing is that paul was in the best shape of his life and nearly won that show.there was an artcile in flex that stated if paul neva froze onsatge that day he would have been the winner of the 90'000 arnold classic1994

...I just looked at that Gunter pic.  It's obvious that they photoshopped his knee's veiny mess away, even to a rank amateur!  That veiny crap is gross, but Gunter looked good at the O.   To tell the truth I think he looked better at the night show for some reason, as the pics from prejudging show he's still a bit thick in the waist...not as bad as usual, but still noticeable.

Back to Gene's failed attempt at 1050.  The funniest thing had to be when HHH's co host (Joe Amato I think) asked if he was going to try a second attempt.  The guy just crushed his guts in w/a bench that most couldn't squat and like he's going to try again ???  Obviously he isn't a fan of powerlifting.

I'm afraid I have to agree about the photoshopping...  those of you who have the FLEX Olympia issue, compare that pic of Günter in the magazine with this one.  The veins are still there and FLEX has insulted our collective intelligence by claiming otherwise:

That fag didn't know Jack about BB either. He sucked Big Time.

Anyone catch the part where some guy comes from behind the curtains with some papers and instead of giving them to the cockgobbling host he just reads them himself. He got out a couple of words and the assclown grabbed the mic and said "What are you doing?". That was followed by 30 seconds of silence.

Some funny shit.  ;D

...maybe Gunter should look into getting it removed, it is kinda gross.  Although it's veins, perhaps it's better not to mess with it....but since you can surgically remove vericose veins perhaps something can be done.  In the end it may be a big hassle for little payback.

Well, the FLEX mag said that Günter had the spider veins removed that were near his right knee, and the pics in FLEX seemed to corroborate that.  People get unsightly veins removed all the time, it's not that big of a deal.

BUT if you look at the Olympia pics up on flexonline.com, you will still see the veins right where they always were.

2. MD still survives as toilet material because of articles from the likes of Valentino (you might hate him, but if you read his retarded rant you will be entertained).

Charles Glass said in MD that it was removed
