Just got around to reading his MD columns from a few months ago, and he's full of shit about what weights he claims to have lifted. He may have been a force in his day, but at a cheeseburger ove 200 lbs there's no way he's putting up numbers he claims. Talks about barbell rows with over 405 on the regular, and even Lee Haney said before Yates and Coleman, nobody was rowing with 4 plus plates a side (Haney admits 275 was heaviest he went). You would think with all Gaspari has accomplished he wouldn't need to lie about shit that doesn't even matter in his "sport."

I rowed 365 at a buck 90 with decent form. Looks believable for a midget.

Haney could have done well over 275, remember his motto, "Stimulate, don't annihilate".

Gaspari worst physique in 20 years.

x2, talk about narrow....Gaspari was a neck and then arms..Yeah he didn't bench much either and his chest was among the best ever
I think if Haney really wanted to, he could have thrown up some big numbers. But, it might have resulted in injury.
-

he did either 405 or 495 for reps in his training video. Pretty sure it was 495
-
Little Jose Raymond rows 405 easily.
-
Gaspari drives a Lamborghini. Who cares about what he lifts.. he is not a powerlifter.
-
Remember prior to Yates no one was doing these almost standing upright bend over rows. Haney and the rest use to bend over parallel to the floor. That really limited the weight used.

-
If u believe the 200 lbs Gaspari delusions of 200 lbs dumbbell shoulder presses, rows with over 405, and other ridiculous numbers, please let me sell u this bridge I recently acquired...

Film yourself barbell rowing 275 for reps and I'll leave forever. Oh and not bent over dead lift shrugs.

I did 340 for 7-8 when 19 and natural. Strong back and legs, couldn't do near the same on the chest. No-one will probably believe it

This thread is about Gaspari not Sarah Dunlap.

Would it not be Pendlay Rows?
a pendly row is a fucking barbell row but the newer generation of BBr hijacked the exercise as a bent over shrug
heres arnold doing a row when it was a row

Gaspari worst physique in 20 years.
Gaspary was truly fantastic from 85 to 88.
Density, conditioning, fullness..

He was like Dorian without the width & structure

It was 405. Guy used piddly weights for the most part. (His physique was phenomenal, regardless.) The 405 was for the video, clearly. And he banged out only three or four (hard) reps. His training partner, Rope Man, bested this, if I recall. But, yeah, the weight was 405. I clearly remember.
-
king haney trained smart......185-225 on barbell rows.... and he had the best back around.....8 sandows!!!
only idiot gym rats sit around arguing about who is the strongest on barbell rows.

Great point , the weight is a means to an end.
-
i have seen many powerlifters hoist and herk and jerk to get a weight up......yes....... they got the weight up
but they didn't stimulate their muscles at all.
powerlifting and bodybuilding are two different animals.
just my 2 cents.

Looks like he's reaching for something erect to hold on to.

pre-internet era and back in the magazine days,he would state nothing stood in his way to achieve his physique and be top guy then, training was on point and he had some thick/conditioned muscle at that age 22/26 ..he new how to pose to his strengths and hide his waist, legs were top notch/chest/hardness/haney was just too nuch genetically shape and size wise to beat period,,,

HE COMPETED ...low end 208 and then 226 one mro and looked massive at 5'8 but blocky,,,,i think 212/s top 5 easily.open class wow don't know .
-
i think that the only reason gaspari placed second ahead of many good guys.....was because of his insane conditioning and fantastic leg development.
there were quite a few bbers more pleasing to the eye.....ie benfatto, labrada, pastel, demey and quinn...to name a few.

Early in his career Rich was extremely thick and round and I think it was around 1989 he lost that trademark look. After that it was all downhill.

he won the ast Arnold classic then by 91 looked totally changed and then one last run he actually looked pretty good 95 like he hit the receptors again good and then done.

95? What show? One of Rich's mistakes was he tried to streamline his physique for the Olympia one year, big mistake. Here's 94 lost some thickness especially in chest tore his pec but still not his usual thickness that was his trademark.
