I was your age when I got mine. And even though I never look back and regret things, I had a youthful arrogance when I got mine and just said "fuck it let's do it!!" If I had the choice now to choose to get them again, I'd say no.Not like I miss any sleep over it, I still like mine, but you get the point. You are a bidybuilder (you are whether you identify as one or not), so you obviously try to stand out and look different....NOT having tats makes you even more unique today. I've always admired some of the cool intricately detailed pieces, I'm a fan of the artistic medium that is tattoos.
But...
The older I get, and especially the bigger I get physically as a bodybuilder (5'10 240 right now), the less I want to draw even more attention to myself and come across as a "tough guy/hard ass." Not that I was ever DJ181 insecure as a kid, but I find my level of contentment and confidence with who I am grows each year, and I don't want to be viewed as a threatening person. As far as I'm concerned my 240lb physique speaks volumes enough for me to be concerned about if other dudes in the gym are intimidated by me or not. Its a juvenile way of thinking. It's a INSECURE way of thinking, trying to project an image of being a badass.
Ask yourself what the real reason is behind wanting to get them. How will It improve you? What image are you trying to put forth to the world?

they tell my story so to speak
i dont regret them but everyone was thought through for a long time before i got them done
that being said they are all covered in normal business dress so people at work dont stereotype me

I think tatoos suck because:
1. Everyone has them nowadays, so its not "rebel" at all to have one
2. Most of it looks like shit anyways.
That being said, I can see myself having one in the future, but it would have to mean something, really. Like if I got to war and kill some dudes there, I would have something related to it. Or if I hd an addiction that I cant fight, I would probably tat something related to it.
But it wouldnt be flamboyant for sure, probably very discrete, but sharp and keen.
Also, sluts dig it, so if you want to do something for the purpose of solely increasing your chances to have sex with them, go for it :)

I am pretty covered in them but it has been my lifestyle for 22 years. I would say no for 2 reasons, first is the reason you want to get one, second is you are unsure and ask for advice on this board. Even if you look jacked now you will not always later in life. (Unless you are me ;D )
You may regret it, you may not. But you have to make that decision. Getbig will be gone long before that tattoo is. Give it a few months and if you still want something do not pick something off of the wall. Find some unique and that means something to you. I have won several trophies for my artwork at tattoo conventions. I have people stop me all the time and comment on them. Old people, young people, men, and women. If you are going to put something on your body THAT is the kind of thing you want to put on there, a piece of art. If you are in the US I can probably give you a name of a good artist no matter where you are located at. PM me if interested.

If you have no idea what you're doing, you shouldn't be doing it. Tattoos are permanent. If I were to get "art" on my skin, it better be high art and not some dumb shit that I hate in a week or two.

I don't have any tattoos - never felt the need to get one and probably never will. I'm too fickle and it's the sort of thing that if I got one I'd be bored of it within a month and want shot of it. Hell, I can't even keep my desktop image on my PC for more than a week.
Don't get me wrong, I respect the artwork and have seen some pieces that I'm genuinely impressed with on other people but there's literally nothing out there that makes me want to go as far and have one permanently inked on myself.
From a bodybuilding perspective I find it quite funny that in my gym I see lots of little twinks training year after year - their physiques never change but the number of tattoos on their bodies do.

here's another thing I think about....Tattoos are very popular right now..normal everyday people have slesleeves. this will pass like every trend...and now these people are "generation tattoo" and it's permanent...can't change your skin and say "what was I thinking" like you can with clothes that make you cringe now. you're carbon dated.

there's a lot, and we're far from done. it's basically an apocalyptic theme. the skull at the bottom needs finished up, the angel in the middle is inspired by a derek hess painting, then there'll be a soft grey mushroom cloud coming up through the back middle and a swarm of rats out of the skull into a plague doctor i have done on my ribs.
i admit, part of it is i'm kinda addicted to getting them done. i just like going in and having a sitting now and again. after a few months i get an itch. :P
here's another thing I think about....Tattoos are very popular right now..normal everyday people have slesleeves. this will pass like every trend...and now these people are "generation tattoo" and it's permanent...can't change your skin and say "what was I thinking" like you can with clothes that make you cringe now. you're carbon dated.
that's just it, though. if your reasoning is "oh man tattoos are the cool thing to do, i wanna join the cool kids club" then you're fucked from the get go. i do it for me. you wanna say they look like shit? feel free. doesn't bother me in the slightest.
plus, there's a bit of a personal attachment to tattoos. even if it's not the best looking, the fact is that you can't just put one on like a new shirt. you sit through 20+ hours of needles jabbing into your flesh and that design turns into your baby. flaws and all, it's yours, and something you went through. hell tattoos are like a calendar for some people, you remember where/when you got them and what was up. or in my case, one of mine was done by a friend who shot himself later, so it's like i got a little thing to remember him by.

i've met men in their 80s covered in tattoos. women, too. you know what's funny? not a single one regrets it. i've had some of mine for near a decade now and can't say there's a bit of me that wants to get rid of them.

It is without a doubt an individual choice. I can't see getting one personally. You will see people that have killer pieces. Then 5 minutes later you can find someone who has trashy looking shit. Do many people get judged by these choices? I would say yes. Fair or unfair.

This is what I was told when I was a kid. I was a kid a very long time ago. Our culture has changed. Tattoos do not come with the same stigma they once did. They are pretty mainstream these days. I will admit though, that I never got a tattoo or a piercing. I don't believe I will start now at my age.
