I'm a huge Magic Johnson fan ever since I was a kid. As a fan, I was confused by Magic's tweet. Is he butthurt that Lebron snubbed him? If so, I'm amazed that he gives a shit what Lebron thinks. Lebron is of the generation that thinks that Michael Jordan invented the game of basketball. Of course he is gonna be on Jordan's nuts.
I agree with Magic that championships are huge when talking about the greatest players of all time. I hate the Celtics but why does Bill Russell always get ignored? Dude has 11 rings and the last two he won as player he was also the fucking coach. Bad Dude. While we are at it, Kareem has 6 rings and 6 MVPs.

Lebron is playing at a very high level right now but I still think Magic was better. It's hard to compare the two because they played on very different teams and they had different responsibilities on those teams.
I'm old enough to have seen Magic at his best. People today give him respect but I still don't think that they understand how good he really was. Lebron is a beast and I'm not trying to take anything away from him though.

There was nothing more entertaining than watching the Lakers play during Magic's era. The fastbreak "showtime" offense was truly a thing to behold. The Magic/Kareem Lakers were so much more fun to watch than the Kobe/Shaq Lakers.

He played an exciting style but he pales compared to the very top players. Excellent scorer, especially ABA days, but little else. Below avg rebounder for his physical abilities and not a great passer either. Fun to watch.

Lebron will probably be better than just about all of them, when all is said and done.
Just wait til he's 33-35, and gets on the GH like the rest of the top pro atheltes that get BETTER at 35. Look at Kobe. better at 35 than 25 lol.

When Jordan came into the league the NBA had just signed a huge tv deal. Prior to that, you listened to the games on the radio and if you were lucky you could watch the Finals on tape delay. In the 80's and 90's the NBA cranked out biography/highlight videos of him almost every year. The game had become hugely popular (largely because of the Magic/Bird rivalry) and the marketing of the game was exploding. Companies like Nike and Gatorade pushed Jordan so hard you couldn't get away from the guy.
If guys like Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had the same level of exposure that Jordan had, the discussion would be very different. I'm not trying to take anything away from Jordan because he was as good as his hype. I'm just not convinced that he should be the undisputed greatest of all time.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - 3 time NCAA champion, 6 time NBA MVP, 6 time NBA Champion, NBA all-time leading scorer.
Bill Russell - 2 time NCAA champion, 5 time NBA MVP, 11 time NBA Champion, 22.5 rebounds per game.

I will say this; look at the competition Jordan had. Played against real good players. Just look at the Dream Team and compare to Team USA.
But this stuff can be debated all day long.

Jordan played against great players but not great teams. He didn't start winning chips until the Showtime Lakers, Celtics and Badboy Pistons got old and had one foot out of the league. It's all splitting hairs though. The top tier of the NBA were all in God mode when they played. It's too bad Shaq was an unmotivated fat fuck because he could have been the greatest of them all.
