How many figures were on his last contract already? I'd call that one a trick.

Arod's a moron, but I'm still one who can't stand MLBs parading around on their high horse when they've been implicit in this mess from the get-go.

So any way he can piss of Selig, I'm fine with it.

If the statement is true that Bosch was financially compensated by MLB to assist in providing information to convict the players, he could skate on this.  But, if he does not, he should get 50 games for first time offense, and that is it.  No special penalty because they don't like him.

why do they allow guaranteed contracts?   especially contracts that large.

Agree. He's a first-time offender. But man, there's a hard-on out there to put this guy down. I'm glad he's taking a stand.

Screw the hall of fame. I'd rather be rich and forgotten than poor with a legacy.

Because the MLBPA is all powerful.

And because there's alway going to be a moron gm/owner who will pay it.

He's salvaging his money.

Of course NY wants the money freed up for next year, but that's on the Steinbrenners for re-signing him when their GM was perfectly content to let him walk.

I think he will be suspended, maybe not the whole 214 games they're seeking, but the Yankees is now a toxic place for him to be and I wouldn't wanna be in a club like that....and I don't think retiring is in A-roid future anytime soon

the Yankees not quite but are falling into the 'bobby valentine redsox 'where they dumped everyone but pedroia, papi, ellsbury and revamped with
a good bunch players not multi  millionaire aholes who break down easily.injuries suck but Yankees were decimated with injuries and all there allstars were cheerleaders to the bush league Yankees.

Was risky but the" Evil empire" didn't want to see a gold glove shortstop 40/40  and best right hander hitter the game has seen in the past 50 years with the Red Sox uniform ...

Yankees wanted to have the all time HR king and who knows how many more records ARod was projected to break with a Yankee jersey on at all cost ....

Yeah, I think the Yankee ownership were going to promote the "clean" home run king when he surpassed Bonds.....OOOPS.    Brian  Cashman wanted no part of it.

eh - when a  team loses their starting SS / 3b / CF / 1b / C for most of the season, there's not much you can do.  They should have added Soriano earlier, signed Martin instead of lettling him walk, etc... things like that.

But, the reality of this is, if CC did what he normally does, this team still would have made the WC despite missing 5/9 of their lineup.

You're confusing two different stories.

The video you're quoting was how he ended up on the original list of 103.  This was done as a result of what was supposed to be anonymous testing agreed upon by the MLB and the MLBPA to see the levels of use in MLB.   Nobody was to be penalized or named.

As a result of hit being over 5%(I think) the new penalties were agreed upon, one being a 50 games suspension for first time offenses.  The new Biogenesis scandal that he's involved in is what he's defending now and using the duped argument.

I'll take the high payroll team that goes to the playoffs 17 out of 19 years anytime.

Enjoy your imminent playoff elimination.

Although I'd love to see the As go to the WS.

Grape, I am showing that he already gave him self up a long time ago. He used them once, and then he kept on using them. He has always been on PED. Trying to play like a novice now and say that he bought fake supps is pure bs. He was injecting Primobolan and Test from the get go.

That should be the way that baseball goes in the future. Teams like the Yankees are one of the worst examples of overpaying players. The Angels (with Pujols, Hamilton etc...) are learning this as well.

Soon, there will be 5 and 6 year max contracts.  Did you here that Cano's agent (JayZ  ::)) wants a 10 year deal for 300 million? Are you kidding me?  :-X

Yeah, but you also said "how can he say he was duped when he admitted it".  Those are two different stories.  The duped refers to what he bought from Biogenesis, not the boli story.

I'm sure he's been drugged up the whole time.   He was a young guy playing with Gonzalez, Rodriguez, Palmiero, Kapler, etc.....whole team was gassed.

What!!!!! :o  Arod is bad enough on his own, but I will gladly toss in Jeter as well. He was utterly useless this year. It's his age catching up to him.

What morons sign any player to a guaranteed contract that will have them playing at 40 or beyond?

I wasn't implying they didn't over pay for anyone, just wanted to see who you thought.  And the Yankees are far from the worst - the generally don't set the market for FAs.

Arod, yes.

Jeter case was special - it's beyond the on field stuff and didn't hurt them in terms of acquiring other players.

I don't think the Yankees are the worst example.   ARod yes - completely stupid contract.  But guys like Tiexiera, etc had the market set for them by other teams.  For example, Boston had 172 on the table for him.  Yankees beat it by 8M (1M per year)  to secure what appeared to be elite talent.   That's not an overpay - it's paying market price - he couldn't be had cheaper.

Plus, if you have a huge financial advantage and don't use it, that's bad business.  It's on baseball to fix the model.

I disagree here. Moneyball does have it's place. There are plenty of guys that are as good as Tiexiera at half of the price. Just admit that the Yankees are the Wal-Mart of baseball. They have so much money, they can afford to make a ton of shit decisions. Doesn't make it smart.

Yankees remind me alot of the Patriots actually. Remember those great teams from the mid 90's to the early 2000's?

Not flashy, just got the job done. Now, they think they have to get the biggest and best. All teams have a farm system.

Yankees incorporate moneyball tactics too - look at Swisher.  Show stats said he stunk - advanced metrics like LD% and BABIP showed he likely had a flukey bad year and they got him cheap.

Sure they can cover their mistakes and they've made some bad moves, but all teams do.  The Yankees biggest mistake recently was NOT spending enough money - in the international FA market.  They missed out on Cespedes / Darvish / Puig / Chapman, etc...should have used their financial might to get a couple of these guys. Guys like Matsui, El Duque, etc were cornerstones in their insane run.

Thats the point. Yankees (mostly high priced free agents, or aged home grown talent) are not in the playoffs.

The A's are a collection of young bucs, and older guys willing to play for the love of the game. The A's have been competetive for years like this. Cashman might need to change his business model.
