How is it acting weird?  Have you ever changed the fluid?  Is it shifting hard? Delayed shifts? Slipping?

Hope you like the car.  New trans is a deal breaker for me unless I love the car.  Too much money and it always seems like tranny failures are repeat offenders

I was going to say it sounds like coolant contamination into the gearbox fluid from possible leaking cooling system. It does happen, GM Vauxhalls were famous for it in the UK. Draining the transmission fluid and refilling sometimes works for a while but usually a rebuild or replacement is required. I would think a rebuild would be half the cost or less than a new transmission. In the UK it would be $2500 for rebuild compared to $6000 for new box.

parker was very kind and responded to me very fast. However I had to explain to him how automatics also have clutches...  So if parker cant help you feel free to pm with mechanical questions    He admitted to only be a parking lot mechanic and not an actual mechanical

Use a small caliber bullet. Hit the cylinder head from about 5.' That slug oughta bounce around enough that any real ID is impossible.Thank me later.

Easiest thing to do is to take a sample of the transmission fluid.  Half of a white styrofoam coffee cup is plenty. Is it black and smell burnt?  Does it have evidence of coolant in it? Next pour some of it through a clean white rag, see what is filtered by the rag. If you see metal savings the trans will need to be rebuilt or replaced. If the fluid looks good, and there is no metal in it you may only need a valve body or possibly a solenid if it comes separate from the valve body.

If you need a rebuild, be VERY careful where you take it. The cheapest option may cost you alot more down the road vs getting a new or a factory rebuilt unit.

300 isn't a bad car, if you like old and unreliable engine and transmission implementations.  I think Dick Tracy drove a Chrysler.

Why not? Sure it's work when you are not used to it, but so is military pressing 250 lbs over your head.  It is rewarding in the end.

Parker is.a car enthusiast.... but thats it. He doesnt really have much hands on experience or actual drive time, but he reads everything there is to read and keeps up with all the cars he wishes he could afford.

Nothing wrong with that at all, I wish more people were like him in our industry. Unfortunately without the hands on day to day experience in the real world he doesn't have the knowledge to separate the bullshit from fact with his sources, so much of the knowledge he shares is either half truths or just BS hes passinflg along from wherever he heard it.

much of what he says is based in reality. You just have to understand the source before you take what he says as fact.

I had a brand new Ford Crown Victoria. The transmission went at 10K miles. The Ford mechanic said they were made in Mexico and they had quality control issues. He said the actual case measurements were off and he couldn't just replace the internal parts so he replaced the entire transmission.

This brings me to a Dodge Durango. The trans started slipping around 35K miles. I believe the mechanic drained the trans and if I remember correctly the trans had a filter on it that he replaced. It worked after that but I got rid of it around 70K. Every time I see blue smoke coming out an exhaust showing a shot motor it seems it to be a Dodge/Chrysler vehicles. I would never buy a Dodge product even though I really like the looks of many of their vehicles.

I always assumed the Chrysler 300 had Mercedes e class 3.5 v6 and transmission (as the diesel has merc 3.0  v6 in the UK).
Turns out it has a cheap copy of the merc engine and gearbox.

My reserve/weekend car is a 2007 Chrysler Sebring with 168,000 miles on it, no repairs except for routine maintenance + oil changes (for which I have a oil change for life card I got when I bought it).
