If the ideea is to be no1, then why have weight classes? do Like k1 and allow everyone to fight. I would like to see Floyd thrown from rope to rope wwf style by The Haymaker ;D

That would be an exhilarating 15 seconds. Not like boxing nowadays.

I agree. Can you imagine if the NBA had height classes? Or size classes for the NFL?

Not comparable. Could you imagine a basketball team with 5 Dirk Nowitzki on the court? Weight classes are made to differentiate skills from pure power. No weight classes= no Ray Sugar Robinson, no Ray Leonard, no Hearns/Hagler, no Julio Cesar Chavez. That's why boxing is not street fighting. Like it or not.

Spud Webb dominated the dunk contest once.

Sure its comparable. Early MMA didnt have them. And a team could have 5 Dirks on the court if they wanted to. Its not illegal.

But would it be efficient. No. Otherwise, you'd only have centers on the field. MMA didn't have the weight class and what happened? They finally got them because people where bored watching 35 minutes of a 180-pound Gracie massaging to exhaustion 250-pound guys. The entertainment value of sports are at his cost.

Isn't is about the best fighter? Let them fight if they feel like contending and let the best man win. But it brings billions so why fuck with the cash cow?

whilst i see the requirement for weight classes in modern combat sports ive always said that an open weight is where the actions really lies. A great small guy would beat a mediocre - good big guy with regularity.
Something i have also said before is that if youre on the street and a fight is away to break out youre not gonna say, "sorry mate, youre not in my weight class". Youre gonna throw down regardless.

I agree with the rest of your post. But really not sure about that one. How many great boxers have you seen go up in weight only to find themselves less fun to watch: Hopkins, Roy Jones, Ray Leonard himself, Trinidad, etc.....Bowing is not brawling. If it was, well it would be....brawling.
P.S: I know you guys are getbiggers, so that means that when you sort it out on the streets, the crowd not only cheers but also hands you a nice paycheck at the end of it. But most people don't really get into street fights to as a professional activity. Would you enter the ring with a skilled opponent (meaning that he could actually kill you), unprepared, without gloves and a ref? Two completely different things.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the best boxer of the last decade and a half maybe the best ever lb for lb. as far as a person the guy is a prick unless you know him real well or are somebody on the same level money wise. that is why Floyd used to hang out with guys like 50 cent till they started fighting about money. %0 cent is worth way more the mayweather. Now mayweather hangs out with other rich guys/kids on his level money wise, for christ sakes Mayweather Jr. hangs out with justin beiber. Floyd says he has changed since he got out of jail for beating his wife he cheated on daily.
Now floyd says he realized he was hanging out with guys who were not his real friends, he has admitted his mom,dad and uncle are all drug addicts. some are worse then others. floyd says his mom is a full blown drug addict while his dad and roger have gotten some help and can control there problem somewhat. Flyd no longer partys and uses drugs himself. Floyd was never a full blown drug addict but he did like to party alot and used his fair share of drugs mostly just marijuana but of course he has experimented with cocaine, ecstasy and other drugs but drinking and mrijauna were his main drugs he used.
Now floyd is clean and hangs out with justin beiber. Floyd has dreams of stealing justin beiber away from his camp and getting justin to sign a deal with him. no joke. He hangs out with beiber in hopes of getting at justins money. As far as a person mayweather is slowly making some improvements as far as a boxer floyd just makes people look stupid in the ring. Floyd is still on top of the game and it would be very hard to find anybody who has a chance with floyd. Floyd has mainly taken alot of easy fights mainly fighten broken down mexicans but floyd has beaten all the best out there as well. Floyds last fight against canelo just shows how great mayweather is. mayweather made canelo look like TRASH! Floyd made canelo look so SLOW! there ere times in that fight were floyd would make canelo take a huge swing and make him miss and pose for the camera for a second before he counter shot him. Canelos whole career looks like a joke after what Mayweather did to him. That was just a embarrassment.I think canelo is still crying over that fight.
same thing when Manny fought Brandon Rios, look how slow Manny made Brandon look. Brandon was just swinging at air and manny would be all over him hitting him at every angle. Manny made Brandon Rios look really bad not sure if floyd made canelo look worse but both Floyd and Manny made there recent opponents just look like slow amateur trash! Brandon Rios tried to do a interview after the fight and he just broke down crying like a little bitch -check it out on youtube Brandon just crys like a baby he was so embarrased! I have never seen ring depression as bad as Brandon Rios after that beating manny gave him and the judges even tossed Rios a few rounds wich he didn't deserve both floyd and manny dished perfect shut-out fights.
I wish Bob Arum could just make the floyd/manny fight still happen but at this point both guys are older and that was what people wanted to see 4 years ago not now.
mayweather has the edge over manny.the fight would never happen floyd would not fight with a arum fighter as floyd claims bob arum owes him millions of dollars for some old fights. No fighter has dominated the sport like floyd and has done it with taking NO ABUSE! Manny has been knocked down, knocked out, he has 5 loses, floyd is undefeated and has never touched the deck not even a glove has touched the deck. I have never seen floyd rocked or hurt the least bit. All smiles from mayweather when a opponent thinks they are hurting him. Floyd def the best. lb for lb probably ever. Floyd will end his career 49-0 and will do it without taking a punch. Floyd is right when he says it isn;t cool taking abuse like most fighters do and that is something he has never done was take abuse in the ring. Ali took to much abuse in the ring and it gave him parkinsons, sugar ray was a great fighter but not quite as good as floyd very close but floyd would of beat sugar ray in his prime. I think it is safe to say Mayweather Jr. is the best ever. Floyd also had a very tough road growing up as did most african american fighters. When floyd was younger def nothing came easy to him. It is not easy grwoing up with drug addicted parents growing up in detroit wich is a real rough city.

I agree with everything you say, but in an open weight clash the fighters would ideally be at their functional weight and not be packing on 7 - 14lbs for the sake of it. You could have a legit 140 - 147lb fighter fighting a legit 160lb fighter, or a 160lb fighter taking on a HW at his natural fighting weight.
In that case your Jones', Hattons, Trinidads etc wouldnt be bulking up 2 weight classes to be physically competitive but showing their abilities at their best weights.

Hearns, Hagler, Duran, Leonard, and Benitez if he shows up ready to fight all beat Floyd , he is a great fighter for sure, but not the greatest. In the late 70's through the 80's he has 4 and probably 5 losses against the above mentioned guys.
-
Best in the world at the moment = Mayweather.
-
Floyd could be the best of this era, hes pretty much untouchable but has avoided 2 - 3 guys who, in their primes, could have caused him serious damage. Its all theoretical and opinion based, some guys will lean towards fighters because of their own allegiances, or because it is popular opinion and they cant think logically for themselves.
I would have loved to see Leonard v Mayweather, stylistically i think they match up very well. But back on point, its hard to look passed him right now as there really arent alot of guys throughout the divisions that have his level of technical ability. They may be faster, more powerful etc but he puts it all together better than everyone just now.
one for the future (even the present), and if you havent heard of him or watched him fight then please do so, is Carl Frampton. Very exciting prospect! Kell Brook will also dominate once he puts the arrogance to one side and focuses 100% on the task at hand.

"Boxing" ::) no one cares about a bunch of pussys patting each other with pillows on their hands. They d all die in the cage. The cage is where its at.

rare fight John Clease aka Basil Fawlty vs Mike Tyson

It amazes me how poorly remembered Juli Cesar Chavez is. His memory has not aged well.
He was an awesome force in his prime and his prime was a loooooong time. Sure once he got 'old' he looked as average as anybody else and once he started losing he didn't handle it well. But for a period of 12 or 13 years he was un-fuckin-beatable. Seems alot of people have forgotten that. Guy was like 89 and 0 at one point.

He could have been 68-1 though. Meldrick Taylor was as close as it gets to being the first one to beat him. But I agree, Chavez was a force rarely seen.

I don't have time to read through all these posts. This is the best boxer I found by far.

LOL the cage is for mainly white trash. that is not a classy sport at all. Boxing is a more classy sport. I do have respect for UFC fighters becuase it does take balls to get in that octagon but great boxers are born and usually come from a line of fighters/fighting family. look how many boxers are named so and so Jr. That is because they were raised to grow up to be boxers you don't see that in the UFC. Like broner said UFC can be taught, great boxers are just born with the gift and start at a super young age like 7 years old.

Go in there and knock out a Klitchko, then we will finally give you your due.

ricardo lopez retired 50-0-1. thats great in any division.

Did anyone see the beatdown Floyd handed out to the guy that sucker punched his dad in the gym? If he hadn't walked away with the guy cowering down in the corner he could have severely hurt him.
-
wow no mention of BHop or Ricardo Lopez

Macho Man Randy Savage

wow no mention of BHop or Ricardo Lopez
Bhop is a cheap dirty fighter and yes somebody did mention lopez right before you posted. lopez was a no talent pussy but at least he listened to his corner. he would get his ass handed to him by manny 147lb fighters.

The most entertaining would definitely be Roy Jones Jr. The man was a true gladiator.

Roy Jones had an awful chin. Was a flash cunt full of himself and ran from Benn,Mccllean and Steve Collins

Roy Jones had an awful chin. Was a flash girl full of himself and ran from Benn,Mccllean and Steve Collins
Had an awful chin? I dont know about his prime since nobody could land a glove on it but he resembles Liddell in his later career. His prime was as good as youll see, absolute confidence and incredible ability to destroy anyone he was in the ring with.
Its not as simple as he ran from this guy or that guy, some of the proposed negotiations were not to his camps liking and they wanted to avoid any dealings with King early on. Again its all theoretical as to who would have won in these fights, but at that point i'd have leaned towards Roy against Benn and Collins. If his chin wasnt that great then theres a very strong chance McClellan could have tagged him early on and finished him. ridiculous power.
-
The greatest boxer I can think of is Archie Moore. He had 131 knockouts. Some has his knock outs lower but they all agree his has the most of all time. He fought over such a long time span. The guy had 185 wins and he ducked no one. He had power and style. He was a small light heavy weight who fought heavy weights when the money was right. He was flashy and loud. Way past his prime he fought a prime Rocky Marciano and Muhammad Ali.
-

u can tell that was fake that white guy was gassed throwing every punch, his running around the ring was to "con-vince"

He took a dive for some change.

he wouldve killed tyson just throw his head down everytime tyson does that stupid head roll. kinda like in wrestling, some asshole goes low you just push his head down into the mat.

I don't think Sammy Scaff took a dive....his nose was half hanging off his face!!

Best boxer of all time was Sugar Ray Robinson followed by Rocky Marciano.

"Rocky Marciano! Rocky Marciano! Every time boxing come up a white man pulls Rocky Marciano out of his ass."
-
"Rocky Marciano! Rocky Marciano! Every time boxing come up a white man pulls Rocky Marciano out of his ass."
In this era its Floyd, all time is Robinson...marciano fought old champs and bums.
-
"Rocky Marciano! Rocky Marciano! Every time boxing come up a white man pulls Rocky Marciano out of his ass."
49-0 43 knockouts. My dad knew Don Cockell who fought Marciano and lasted eight rounds. Don said during the entire fight Marciano never blinked once just kept coming forward throwing non stop punches to the arms and head. Once the arms had gone dead he would take your fucking head off. Don also fought a guy called Nino Valdez who apparently had an even harder punch than Marciano.
-
Harry Greb was nobody's chump, maybe the best ever, right up there with Robinson. Marciano is underrated, sure he was small and easy to hit like everybody said but all he did was beat everybody. Archie Moore was older for sure but he peaked later in his career in my opinion as did Walcott. Marciano had heart and guts like very few have had. You can't take the HUMAN aspect out of it ever, Ali on paper should have lost to Liston and Foreman and handled Norton no problem, but it was not the case.
Dempsey was an absolute killer but partied too much. Jack Johnson was a defensive wizard, could bang with anybody in any era. You have to consider modern training methods with old time fighters when considering ''who was the best"- put the rock, Greb, Johnson, Dempsey under modern training methods and they are all bigger ,faster, stronger etc..
It's like saying the '27 Yankees and Murderer's row was the greatest team ever- Ruth, Gherig , Lazzeri , Combs, etc... but they would lose to a modern team because of training methods, skill development, better pitching today etc... Bring them to modern times and train them then maybe ....
-
Harry Greb was nobody's chump, maybe the best ever,
Absolutely worthy of a mention. I have spoken very highly of him before on this website, and yet almost nobody knew who he was.
-
these old school guys like marciano and harry greb all fought bums. Guys trained like shit back then and didn't cutt wait to well. very cheap way to win fights. that was a diffrent era when everything was a fair fight butnei
-
You seem to be insinuating Greb and Marciano were bums then- ? Marciano didn't train hard ? You don't know boxing too well friend if that is your opinion of the Rock and Greb. NOBODY was in better condition than the Rock- he took guys to the later rounds as was as good in the 13th as he was in the 1st, darn animal he was.
Ali said after doing the sparring for the computer fight that Marciano was better than Frazier and may have beaten him (Ali)
Styles make fights, gotta keep that in mind. Marciano was a rough fight for Ali-( according to Ali) , but how would he have fared against Foreman- ? it doesn't look good for the Rock here based on styles
Holmes is another underrated fighter, every bit as good as Ali in my opinion, he beats all the guys Ali beat except for possibly Foreman, Ali had a chin and heart like no other fighter, gotta give him that

X2 he really is a humble guy and just had to fight to live. His love for pigeons shows this they could not hurt him but he could.
-
Tyson is so honest and human it is easy to identify with him. That interview was raw and I hope he doesn't say 'fuck it' and give up.
-
Greb was a small man that fought everyone there was to fight regardless of their size, and had a record that whilst incredible, probably should have been a few fights better in his favour. He didnt have the knowledge or technological advancements that we now take for granted, just 2 fists and a chin of reinforced steel. And he was also blind in one eye.
Irrespective of his era, he deserves a mention and im sure anyone with a sound boxing knowledge would agree.
-
these old school guys like marciano and harry greb all fought bums. Guys trained like shit back then and didn't cutt wait to well. very cheap way to win fights. that was a diffrent era when everything was a fair fight butnei
Actually Marciano was a work out maniac. He was known for always running, walking, and training in the gym. I read his biography that recently came out. He did fight many lower grade opponents early on but he didn't avoid anyone as his career went on. He did fight some of the best available guys of the time. True, when he fought the Brown Bomber it was past his time.
-
Any list has to include Ray Robinson, Greb, Monzon, Duran, Henry Armstrong, Pep.
Ricardo Lopez was 50-0-1 against the best fighters in his division. Nothing else needs to be said about Ricardo Lopez.
Guys like Greb may not have trained too hard but he fought once a week! He had close to 300 fights if I remember correctly.
Marciano trained like a man possessed. Between fights he would balloon up around 230-240 and he was a short man. He trained hard to get down to 180-190 for his fights. He was known for his stamina and condition. Almost everybody he fought was bigger than him and he would wear them out.
-
johny falcone is the best.
so far hes undefeated in all classes(neither did he win a match or anything, but undefeated!)and he clearly calle dout klitschos, half the mma rooster and whatnot.
the all intimidated and want none.

Yes. He is such a fun loving individual. Do you know about the numerous rapes and assaults that were covered up while he was in his teens because he was a high profile prospect? I also liked Mike until I did my homework and realized he was another animal used in the public eye. Don't be fooled by TV Alex.
