I had no idea there was that much love for communism over there.  Could you imagine what the blowback would be if folks in America were out waving commie flags?

When?  If you mean now then I think what you seem to be implying is right; Counter protesting folks would go crazy.

It wasn't always that way, though.   Socialism isn't quite the same thing as communism but in America of the early 1900's up until before WW2, socialism wasn't so unpopular in the USA.
